While many of her counterparts talk a good game Sexyy Red is really here for the smoke. She and her crew got into a massive brawl at an airport.

The St. Louis, Missouri, native was caught on video in a wild fight with multiple individuals. On Saturday, June 8, she and her entourage were at Newark Liberty International Airport in the early morning hours. Around 1:20 a.m. they got into it with another group at Terminal C, gate 82. Things escalated very quickly to the point where the “Skee Yee” rapper picked up a stanchion and started using it as a weapon. Soon after a man can be seen pulling her away from the action, but it seems she stayed active in the melee off camera.

The Port Authority has since issued a statement to XXL regarding the incident and have confirmed multiple arrests including Sexyy Red, born Janae Nierah Wherry. “Two victims were found to have lacerations to their heads,” reads the statment. “The two males accompanying Ms. Wherry, Leslie Baptiste and Carl Thompson, were arrested for assault, and Ms. Wherry was arrested for disorderly conduct. The male victims were transported to University Hospital with minor injuries.”

It is reported that Sexyy Red was released the following day. She acknowledged the detainment on social media when she was hanging with Kodak Black shortly after saying, “I just got out, good morning.” The “Pound Town” performer would also offer to replace a missing phone. “To the people that was in that altercation at the airport please dm me so I can replace yo phone !!” she wrote on Instagram.
You can view the footage of the brawl below.

The city of Newark, New Jersey will be honoring Hip-Hop through its annual 24-hour event designed to help the community celebrate peace in the streets.

On Monday (August 28th), the office of Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced the 24 Hours of Peace Event which will take place beginning on Friday (September 1) at 5 P.M., and last until 5 P.M. on Saturday (September 2). The festivities will take place on Springfield Avenue between Bergen and Blum Streets. The event will feature performances by headline Hip-Hop icons Ghostface Killah, Redman, AZ, Milk Dee of Audio Two, and Hakim Green of Channel Live (who is also a co-founder of 24 Hours of Peace).

Other artists slated to perform at the event will be R&B stalwarts Lil Mo and Bobby V along with Pleasure P. They will be joined by a bevy of local artists who will perform throughout the 24 hours of the festivities as well as DD Osama, 2KBaby, and DJ Middy Baraka. There will also be a midnight tribute to the life of O’Shae Sibley, the Alvin Ailey-trained dancer who was killed last month in Brooklyn. That will be orchestrated by Newark native and WBLS DJ Antoine Qua, featuring a house music dance performance hosted by Ms. Theresa.
The 24 Hours of Peace event began eleven years ago when Mayor Baraka was representing the South Ward as a council member, and he made it a citywide event once he became mayor.  “Perhaps more than any other annual event in Newark, our 24 Hrs of Peace celebration embodies the true spirit of a city where we solidify our unity and deepen our commitment to each other every day,” said Mayor Baraka in the release. “Twenty-four hours without violence is the norm in our city now – not the exception. Each year, this event fuses the power of hip-hop music and spoken word to lift, heal, and inspire peace in our city. We continue to confront a culture that tells us it’s okay to harm one another.
The event will also feature over 200 retail and food vendors, a forum dedicated to Hip-Hop and mental health as well as yoga classes and a Hip-Hop Fitness class led by Nikki D along with poetry performances and a midnight movie screening. For more information, those interested are invited to go to the city’s website.

Raekwon is about to conquer more land. The Chef has been granted conditional approval to open a dispensary in Newark, New Jersey.

As spotted on HipHopDX the Wu-Tang Clan member is taking his talents to the cannabis industry. According to NJBiz Newark Central Planning Board did not approve an application by Hashstoria, an Oregon based franchise that The Chef has partnered with, earlier this year. But the news outlet reports that the board changed their mind and at their July 24 hearing the committee granted the organization conditional approval to open up shop at 799-805 Broad St.

On Friday, August 4 the “Ice Water” rapper took to social media to make the announcement. “THANKYOU NEWARK , NEW JERSEY !!!!!!!!!!and all my Amazing Partners @jeddcanty @bakarisellers @cthagod on this wonderful and culture shifting Endeavor .” he wrote. “@hashstoria is Guaranteed to be the top tier consumption lounge / dispensary to hit the east coast period ! you heard it from chef himself .we will be right in the heart!”.

Rachael Grochowski, founder of RHG Architecture+Design, also expressed her enthusiasm about working on the project. “Design plays a crucial role in elevating the overall cannabis experience, and we are committed to creating an environment that offers a sophisticated, inclusive, and enjoyable experience. The cannabis industry is undergoing a remarkable transformation, driven by the vision and creativity of innovative designers and creatives, leaders from across the industry who are revolutionizing cannabis consumption” she explained. “We are so excited to craft a space that harmonizes aesthetics, functionality, and sensory engagement, ultimately enhancing the journey of both seasoned cannabis enthusiasts and the cannabis-curious alike.”
The final step in the process for Raekwon and company is getting approval from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission. According to their website the agency seeks to “establish and grow a responsible, regulated medicinal and recreational cannabis industry.”
