This past weekend the October ritual known as Comic Con in New York City has come and gone and while comic book heads, fanboys and cosplay fanatics got their fill of entertainment related goodness, we were also left with a bevy of trailers for movies, shows and video games that will be releasing in the near future.
While many of the trailers we were treated to were projects we were already familiar with, fans did appreciate surprise announcements such as the brand new series for Dragonball Z dubbed DAIMA, a better look at the new Godzilla series, Monarch, and our first look at some new Spider-Man suits for Playstation’s highly anticipated Spider-Man 2 video game set to release this Friday (October 20).
With all that being said, check out the trailers that had comic book fans and social media buzzing below and let us know what you’re looking forward to the most in the comments section below.
DRAGON BALL DAIMA

Five years after the highly popular Dragon Ball Super went off the air, fans of the decades old Japanese cartoon series were thrilled to learn that a brand new series starring your favorite Super Saiyans would be returning in 2024 and judging from the trailer it’s going to be quite the interesting ride as Goku and company will be turning into children?! Aw man, what did the Dragon Ball gang get themselves into this time?
MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS

What does a secret society known as Monarch have in connection to Godzillas and the titans of old? We have no idea but this new Apple+ series promises to answer those questions and we can’t wait to see how this one unfolds. We just hope to get lots of monster action when it’s all said and done and judging from the new trailer, we will.
THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON (THE BOOK OF CAROL) SEASON 2 TRAILER

The Walking Dead might not be enjoying the popularity it has in years past, but that isn’t stopping AMC from keeping the spinoff series coming. This time around fan favorite character Carol will be getting burn as she ventures through the land of the dead and does what she can to survive in a world where the term “zombie” doesn’t even exist. Ain’t that some sh*t?

Rick Grimes returns and it looks like he’s going to be having the reunion we’ve all been waiting for as he and Michonne seem destined to once again be the power couple of The Walking Dead universe. After what happened with Papoose and Remy Ma, we need this!!
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD

The first spinoff show from The Walking Dead is finally coming to an end, but what does that mean for its main characters? We don’t know but it should be interesting to see how it all wraps after 8 years of primetime drama and goriness.

Marvel Studio’s Werewolf By Night didn’t make much noise when it hit Disney+ last year, but now that they’ve decided to make the black-and-white series into a full-on colorful affair, maybe more people will tune in and get to talking. Probably not, though.

Spider-Man in the classic black symboite suit will be joining Miles Morales’ Spidey to take on their iconic foe, Venom in Playstation’s upcoming Spider-Man 2. Sign. Us. Up.
SPIDER-MAN 2 NEW SPIDEY SUITS REVEAL

Players will be able to use various Spider-Man suits in the upcoming Spider-Man 2 for the Playstation 5 and during Comic Con, two brand new suits were revealed and we can’t wait to give them a twirl.

Day 3 of New York Comic Con 2023 came and went; you guessed it, there was more cosplay to take in.
The rain and fall temperatures didn’t stop cosplayers from showing up in droves to the Jacob K. Javits Center on Saturday, October 14.
Keeping that same energy from Day 1 and Day 2, blerds and nerds came together to celebrate geek culture. It’s a known fact amongst the NYCC faithful that cosplayers usually save their best cosplay drip for the weekend, and that continues to be the case.
On Friday, we were stuck in the Spider-Verse with plenty of takes of arguably Marvel’s most popular superhero in the building. Saturday saw more Spideys, but his foes took centerstage this time, like Spot from Across The Spider-Verse.

Another Across The Spider-Verse “villain” who showed up was Miles Morales as The Prowler. We strongly lean toward this take on the character as our favorite cosplay from the day.

Marvel Was Everywhere At New York Comic Con
Other Marvel characters we spotted were Jane Foster as Thor, a spin on Wolverine in a tuxedo, another Spidey villain, Mysterio, Mile’s homie and possible love interest Spider-Gwen, Bishop from the X-Men (pictured at the top of the post), Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and, of course, Loki variants.

New York Comic Con 2023 kicked off on Thursday, October 12 at the Javits Center in New York City and it was the grand spectacle we’ve come to expect. The first day was once the “slow” day but if the massive crowds were any indication, the entire weekend will be jam-packed.
While the cosplayers were once again in full effect—see our gallery of the best cosplay here—there were plenty of booths, activations, panels and even actual comics for all sorts of fans of all things fantasy.
We got there early enough to peep some booths on the show floor you should definitely take the time to visit if you’re a Hip-Hop head making your way to New York Comic Con this weekend. From Kid Cudi getting in his Star Trek bag to Crocs being sold on the floor via Foot Locker, there’s plenty to see, so make sure your shoes have plenty of cushioning.

X-Men fans are surely familiar with the Xavier School for Gifted Youngster. Turns out they were freshly dipped with a collection, via the Heroes & Villains “Mutatis Mutandis” booth, that includes tees, hoodies hats and varsity jacket. The prep-familiar fashion is inspired by Wolverine, Rogue, Storm and other classic characters.

It’s that time of the year when New Yorkers spot people dressed up as their favorite superheroes, supervillains, and pop culture icons taking a ride on the train because New York Comic Con is back.
The annual celebration of all things geeky is back and in full effect at the Jacob K. Javits Center. The event officially kicked off on Thursday, October 12, marking the second full convention at maximum capacity since the COVID-19 pandemic and all restrictions were lifted.
Like we always do, HipHopWired/Cassius Life is on the scene and on the prowl for the best cosplay, and we most definitely spotted some winners.
While roaming the halls of the giant convention center, we spied a Doctor Strange (pictured above) and Tony Stark cosplays that could serve as stunt doubles for the actual cast members from the Marvel films.

They weren’t the only Marvel characters in the Javits Center. Loki, Thor’s villainous brother, is enjoying newfound popularity thanks to Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the comic book character in the movies, and the Disney+ series has become a favorite among cosplayers.

No surprise, fresh off the popularity of the Greta Gerwig film starring Margot Robbie, we ran into plenty of Barbie cosplay. We didn’t see any Kens out, but there is still Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday to see someone showing they are “Kenough.”

Cosplayers As Video Game Characters
The world of video games was also well-represented at NYCC. We ran across what we believe is the best Call of Duty cosplay we have ever seen.
Just look at the cosplay of Simon “Ghost” Riley below. It’s impressive.

We also saw a great cosplay of the Mindflayer from the popular video game Baldur’s Gate 3, an excellent play on Joel from the PlayStation-exclusive video game and hit HBO series The Last of Us.
