This week, Justin Timberlake returns still looking out for number one, Ice Spice gets lightly scatological and Megan Thee Stallion becomes Megan Thee Rattlesnake for one particularly venomous diss track. Check out all of this week’s picks below:

Justin Timberlake, “Selfish”

It hasn’t been the easiest half-decade of Justin Timberlake’s career, following 2018’s poorly received Man of the Woods album and some very public relitigation of his old behavior in his personal relationship with Britney Spears and professional relationship with Janet Jackson. But with a catalog and legacy like he has, a new Timberlake project is still going to command some degree of attention — and we’ll see just how much with the release of “Selfish,” single from his upcoming Everything I Thought It Was album. Despite the title, the song is actually much more unassuming than his usual lead singles: a honeyed, ornately produced mid-tempo ballad built on warmly groaning organs and a bossa nova drum machine. “If I get jealous, I can’t help it/ I want every bit of you, I guess I’m selfish,” JT sings on the chorus — not exactly a brand-new sentiment, but one sweet enough to really get up much hate for.

Megan Thee Stallion, “Hiss”

The song that your entire social media feed is buzzing — fine, hissing — about this morning is almost certainly Megan Thee Stallion’s take-no-prisoners latest. “I just wanna kick this s–t off by saying f–k y’all,” Megan proclaims to begin “Hiss.” “I’m finna get this s–t of my chest and lay it to rest.” Megan then spends the next three minutes spitting venomous bars against her haters and rivals, including rhymes about BBLs and Megan’s Law, which have been largely interpreted by fans online to be about Drake and Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, respectively. (Nicki Minaj seemingly responded on IG Live this morning with bars of her own.) Regardless of intended targets, though, the song contains some of the fieriest rapping of Megan’s career, and seems likely to recenter her in the hip-hop conversation for early 2024.

Ice Spice, “Think U the Shit (Fart)”

Ice Spice basically dominated 2023 from January on, so it’s not shocking she’d try to get in early on 2024 as well. “Think” is a bit of a left turn for her — go-to producer RIOTUSA replaces her usual drill beats and pop-leaning hooks with Jersey Club thumps and bleating synths, sounding like a cousin of 41’s underground smash “Bent” from last year. Ice’s vocals put a lot of stock in the questionable chorus rejoinder, “Think you the s–t?/ You not even a fart,” but goes a little harder on the verses, spitting, “I’m a pretty b–ch, I don’t like fightin’/ On the beat, I’m goin’ Super Saiyan.” We’ll see if it’s enough to keep her 2023-long hot streak on the charts cooking into 2024.

Lil Nas X, “Where Do We Go Now?”

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, the first full-length documentary about Lil Nas X, debuts on MAX this Saturday (Jan. 27). We wrote about our biggest takeaways from the doc here, but while fans wait to get their first look at the doc, Lil Nas has gifted them with another new song (following “J Christ” from two weeks ago): “Where Do We Go Now?” The pop-rock power ballad is written with and produced by LNX’s star’s go-to collaborators, Blake Slatkin and Omer Fedi, and feels like very natural new sonic and thematic territory for the genre-blending star, as he pleads “I just wanna be somebody new inside” over tender guitars and racing drums.

Morgan Wallen, “Spin You Around (1/24)”

Call it a Morgan’s Version: Country superstar Morgan Wallen announced last night on social media that he would be releasing a new version of his 2015 early-career recording “Spin You Around” this Friday. Why now? Because it’s not the only new release you’ll see posted on his artist page this morning: Stand Alone, parent EP to “Spin You Around,” has also been re-released in a 13-track “10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition” (despite having come out nine years ago), featuring eight previously unreleased songs — all against Wallen’s wishes. “I cringe when I listen to these songs & I’m very concerned my fans may mistakenly believe this is a new release by me,” he explained.

So to hopefully direct fans away from the unapproved new re-release, he’s re-recorded the fan favorite as a stripped-down acoustic ballad, subtitled with today’s date and given the cover-art note “had to leave the duck woods to make this.” It’s a lovely new version of the love song — which despite its rough-draft quality, does sound decently in line with more recent Wallen recordings — and it wouldn’t be shocking to see it become a new-old hit for Wallen, much like some of those Taylor’s Versions have the past couple years.

The Smile, Wall of Eyes

Apart from the huge pop, rap and country releases of this Friday, there’s also the less-top-40-friendly (but equally anticipated in some corners) new sophomore album from rock supergroup The Smile, led by Radiohead duo Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. The eight-track new set features more blends of knotty art-rock melodies, psychedelic instrumental flourishes, Krautrock grooves and alt-funk jams, and has already attracted some of the early year’s strongest critical notices, including a Best New Music designation in Pitchfork.

Justin Timberlake Announces North American Dates for 2024 Forget Tomorrow World Tour

Just hours after teasing his return to the stage on Thursday night’s (Jan. 25) Tonight Show, Justin Timberlake rolled out the dates for his first tour in five years. The first leg of JT’s Forget Tomorrow World Tour will include 22 North American dates, kicking off on April 29 with a show at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

The Live Nation-produced arena outing will take Timberlake from coast-to-coast, hitting Seattle, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, Atlanta, Tampa, Miami, Chicago, New York, Boston and Cleveland before winding down with a July 9 show at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.

The dates will support Timberlake’s upcoming sixth solo album, Everything I Thought It Was, which features his moody new R&B single, “Selfish.” The new album — Timberlake’s follow-up to his earthy 2018 Man of the Woods LP — is due out on March 15.

There is a Citi presale for the tour that kicks off in the U.s. beginning Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. local time until Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. local time here, with a Verizon presale slated through Verizon Up beginning Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. local time until Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. local time here. Tickets for the North American tour will be available beginning with a fan presale starting Jan. 29, with existing fan club members receiving a unique email code, followed by the general onsale kicking off on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. local time here.

Justin Timberlake Plays Greatest Hits on Classroom Instruments, Talks Getting Tackled By Travis Kelce on ‘Tonight Show’

Justin Timberlake spent four years recording upcoming Everything I Thought It Was album, so it’s no surprise that the “Selfish” singer had some energy to spare when he jumped on the couch on Thursday night’s (Jan. 25) Tonight Show. From his sprinting up to the cheap seats rumba line entrance with old pal host Jimmy Fallon, to a greatest hits run classroom instruments bit, Timberlake seemed eager to kick off his EITIW era after several years of being mostly off the radar.

Introducing JT at the top of the show, Fallon went on an extended news-inspired riff in the opening monologue ticking off just how close the pair are. “He is the Taylor to my Travis,” Fallon joked. “He’s the missing bolt to my Boeing plane… He’s the recall to my exploding Tesla… Yeah, he and I are besties. We got together like a soccer mom and a Stanley tumbler… That’s right, we’re quite a team. Think of us like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but with chemistry… I’m so glad he’s here. Last week when it slowed a little in New York, I looked at the grass and I saw those frosted tips and I thought, ‘I should call Justin.’”

The pair then crammed into the Tonight Show schoolroom for a round of Classroom Instruments, with the Roots gathered around as Timberlake struck a triangle to kick off a funky, unplugged version of his just-released new single, “Selfish.” They only got a verse in, though, before diving into a quick-hit run through JT’s solo catalog of hits, pivoting to a snippet of hip-swiveling “Señorita,” before jumping into “SexyBack,” “My Love,” “Suit & Tie,” “Rock Your Body,” and a raucous “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”

Timberlake, 42, made a proper entrance by roping Fallon into doing a dance up the steps into the audience and then busting some disco moves before hoofing it back down to the stage and declaring himself “exhausted.” Fallon said he’d never seen anyone work harder on anything than Timberlake did on EITIW, describing Timberlake’s work ethic in the studio, while Justin copped to how strange it was to be explaining the new album’s origin to Jimmy, with whom he said he’s already discussed it ad nauseam in private.

“I feel like we’ve already had this conversation, but we have to have it so you guys can hear the story,” Timberlake said, of the difficulty of recording during the pandemic, having his second son, Phinneas, with wife Jessica Biel, and tracking 100 songs over different runs across several years. In describing the sound, Timberlake suggested that the Tonight Show should have a spin-off called Jimmy Fallon Listens to Your Album.

Timberlake then described what a kick he got out of watching Fallon listening to the album. “What was I doing?” Fallon asked in perfect rehearsed confusion. “A lot,” Timberlake laughed, as Jimmy described himself as totally “cool” and “chillin’ out” in the studio. Justin then proceeded to jump on the couch and channel Fallon by shouting “what is this song?!” “OH! What?!,” “OH My GOD!” before busting out some goofy dance moves.

JT also revealed the upcoming Forget Tomorrow World tour, which kicks off April 29th in Vancouver, with stops in Seattle, Phoenix, Fort Worth, Raleigh, Miami and New York, with dates and venues to announced soon.

The segment ended with Fallon recalling an unlikely bunker shot he nailed while playing at Timberlake’s 8AM Golf Invitational tournament last year, where the friends were paired with Kansas City Chiefs dynamic duo Travis Kelce and QB Patrick Mahomes. Jimmy described Timberlake giving him some meticulous swing advice, before cueing up the video of Fallon sinking the shot and getting lifted up into the air by an overjoyed Kelce.

It got better, though. In an extended view of the special moment, after Timberlake sprinted around in circles, he made his way over to congratulate the two and Justin said that was nearly the end of him. “Travis Kelce almost… I saw my life flash before my eyes,” Timberlake said of his abject fear when jumping up to do a hip bump with the 250-pound NFL tight end.

“I was like, ‘he’s doing it! I have to do it!,’” Timberlake recalled thinking, forgetting that the professional baller has about 80 pounds on him. As the tape kept rolling, it showed Kelce hip-checking Timberlake flat onto his sexy back on the green.

Timberlake will be back as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and will play a free show at 1,100-capacity Irving Plaza in New York on Jan. 31.

Taylor Swift Beats Green Day In Australia’s Chart Race

Taylor Swift is back on Australia‘s chart throne, as 1989 (Taylor’s Version) returns to the summit.

The best-selling album for 2023 in Australia, according to trade body ARIA, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) racks up its 12th non-consecutive week at the summit of the ARIA Albums Chart, published Friday, Jan. 26.

21 Savage’s American Dream last week bumped Swift’s re-recorded LP from top spot. But the dream didn’t last. Savage’s set dips 1-7, as Swift moves back to the top, 2-1 on the latest tally.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is one of four TayTay albums in the top 10. With the start of the U.S. pop superstar’s The Eras Tour of Australia less than a month away, expect Swifties to keep her music at or near the top of the albums chart.

The top debut this week belongs to Green Day with Saviors, arriving at No. 2. The U.S. pop-punk trio’s 14th and latest studio album becomes their 12th top 10 album in these parts. The Rock Hall-inducted Bay Area band has topped the ARIA Chart on three occasions, with Dookie (1994), American Idiot (2004) and Father Of All Motherf—ers (2020).

Noah Kahan makes a move on both main Australian charts with Stick Season and its title track. The U.S. singer and songwriter’s album lifts 10-6, for a new peak, while “Stick Season” improves 3-2, also a new high, on the ARIA Singles Chart. Further down the singles tally, a new version of the album track “Homesick,” featuring English singer Sam Fender, bows at No. 57.

At the top of the ARIA Singles Chart is Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” which enters a 10th non-consecutive week at No. 1, ahead of “Stick Season” and Tate McRae’s “Greedy” (up 4-3), respectively.

The Saltburn bump can be felt on the singles chart as Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s 2001 hit “Murder On The Dancefloor” gains 12-7. The single, which is synced to the dark drama, peaked at No. 3 following its initial release.

U.S. singer and TikTok star Benson Boone bags a career high with “Beautiful Things,” new at No. 18, besting the “34” peak for his 2022 single “In The Stars.”

Finally, homegrown EDM DJ and producer Dom Dolla cracks the top 50 with “Saving Up.” The reigning ARIA Award-winner for best dance release, Dolla’s latest release starts at No. 44.

Justin Timberlake Sets ‘Forget Tomorrow World Tour’

First the single, then the album, now Justin Timberlake completes his solo return with confirmation of a world tour.

The former boybander announced the big news when he stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, for a stint surfing the guest couch.

The Forget Tomorrow World Tour will support JT’s forthcoming collection Everything I Thought It Was, his first solo album release in more than six years.

Due out March 15, EITIW is Timberlake’s sixth studio LP, and the followup to Man of the Woods which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following its release in February 2018, for his fourth consecutive solo leader.

As a warm-up, the pop singer will play a small-capacity show in New York on Wednesday, Jan. 31, the 1,100-capacity Irving Plaza.

Fallon teased the touring news out of JT, in a totally above-board, pre-rehearsed kind of way.

Was there anything more to announce, the late-night show host prompted his musical guest? Well, yes, “we are still putting the setlist together for Irving Plaza,” noted Timberlake.

But wait, there was more.

“I’m going on tour,” was the dry response.   

The 10-time Grammy Award winner gave fans a taste of things to come earlier this week with the release of “Selfish,” the first cut from EITIW. He’ll be back on our screens when he serves as musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, with Dakota Johnson hosting. 

Though his solo music career has been in deep freeze, Timberlake did return to his boy band roots last year when he reunited with *NSYNC for “Better Place,” which accompanied the JT-starring animated family film Trolls Band Together. The track started at No. 25, for *NSYNC’s lucky 13th appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and first appearance on the tally since “Girlfriend” featuring Nelly reached No. 5 — way back in 2002.

As a solo artist, Timberlake has landed 19 titles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, including five No. 1s.

Ice Spice Unleashes New Single ‘Think You the Sh– (Fart)’: Stream It Now

“Think you the sh–, bi—? You not even the fart (Grrah),” Ice Spice raps on her latest single “Think You the Sh– (Fart)” that she released on Friday (Jan. 26) via 10K Projects and Capitol Records.

Her first single of the new year comes three months after her last release, “Pretty Girl” with Afrobeats star Rema, which the two performed during Ice’s Saturday Night Live debut. It also arrives one year after the 24-year-old MC dropped her debut EP Like..?, which featured her breakout hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and her second of four Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits, “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj.

Ice Spice is up for four Grammys next month at the 66th annual awards show: best new artist, best pop duo/group performance with “Karma” with Taylor Swift, best rap song and best song written for visual media with “Barbie World” with Minaj. Her Super Bowl commercial with Starry will also air next month.

And in March, she’ll be honored with the Hitmaker Award at Billboard‘s 2024 Women in Music Awards. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the show will be held on March 6 at Inglewood’s YouTube Theater and will stream the following day.

Megan Thee Stallion Bares Her Fangs on New Single ‘Hiss’: Stream It Now

Let the snake saga continue. Just two months after launching her new era with the rock-tinged “Cobra,” Megan Thee Stallion has returned with her first solo offering of 2024: “Hiss.”

Co-produced by LilJuMadeDaBeat and Bankroll Got It, “Hiss” addresses all of the unwarranted opinions on her life and image that have hounded her for the past few years. The Stallion first teased “Hiss” on Monday (Jan. 22) with a graphic revealing the track’s title, and by Wednesday (Jan. 24), she followed up the announcement with a fiery voiceover that set the scene for what audiences should expect from the song.

“I just wanna kick this s–t off by saying, ‘F–k y’all!” she exclaims in the clip. “I ain’t gotta clear my name on a motherf–kin’ thang. [Every time] I get mentioned, one of y’all b—h a– n—as get 24 hours of attention. I’m finna get this s–t off my chest and lay it to rest, let’s go!”

“Hiss” continues the serpentine theme of Megan’s last solo release, 2023’s “Cobra.” That track served as her first independent single since leaving 1501 Certified Entertainment. The song peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became her eighth top 10 hit on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (No. 10). In the interim between “Cobra” and “Hiss,” Megan teamed up with Reneé Rapp for “Not My Fault,” the buzzy new single from the Mean Girls movie musical soundtrack. The Regina George crossover has already reached No. 22 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and spawned a viral SNL performance.

Megan Thee Stallion has earned five top 10 titles on the Billboard 200, including 2020’s Good News (No. 2) and 2022’s Traumazine (No. 4). On the Hot 100, the Grammy winner has collected three top 10 hits from 31 career entries: “34+35” (with Ariana Grande and Doja Cat, No. 2), “WAP” (with Cardi B, No. 1) and the Beyoncé-assisted “Savage” (No. 1)

Morgan Wallen Fights Back Against Early EP Reissue by Re-Recording ‘Spin You Around’: ‘This Is Not My New Music’

Morgan Wallen is surprising fans with a re-recorded version of an older fan favorite, announcing a song called “Spin You Around (1/24 Version)” coming out Thursday night (Jan. 25). While it’s a welcome treat for fans, Wallen is also attempting to thwart what he calls “the dark side of the music business.”

Via Instagram, Wallen explained, “I’m writing y’all from a duck hunting trip because I want to fill you in on something happening tonight. Back in 2014, I went to Florida to try my hand at making original music & songwriting for the first time. This led to a recording deal with a local investor & an artist management deal that I deeply regret. Unfortunately, I signed both deals without any legal representation.”

Wallen noted that they made 13 songs, saying, “Some were ok, most were terrible as I was just learning how to write in general & figuring it all out. I was not the only collaborator, so many of these songs were not my idea nor met my standards. We deemed 5 worthy-enough to make the Stand Alone EP which includes a fan-favorite, ‘Spin You Around.’”

The five-song Stand Alone EP was released in 2015 via Panacea Records.

Wallen continued: “Tonight, those colleagues I parted ways with almost 10 years ago plan to release a ’10th anniversary’ edition of Stand Alone against my wishes & include eight unreleased songs, distributing them with the assistance of my former managers. For months I’ve been exploring every avenue possible to acquire the rights to this old music & keep the quality of my catalog consistent with songs I choose to release & believe in.”

Wallen also called it “an example of how the dark side of the music business can suck the soul out of artists.”

Wallen emphasized: “I want you to know this is NOT my new music, & I don’t want to see this happen to anyone else. I cringe when I listen to these songs & I’m very concerned my fans may mistakenly believe this is a new release by me.”

To counteract the release of that 10th-anniversary project, Wallen recorded his own version of “Spin You Around” this week in Nashville, working with producer Joey Moi and instrumentalist Bryan Sutton. Moi has worked on all three of Wallen’s Big Loud label albums, including 2018’s If I Know Me, 2021’s Dangerous: The Double Album and 2023’s One Thing at a Time, while Sutton has offered his musicianship to of many of Wallen’s songs. Wallen signed with Big Loud in 2016.

Wallen also designed the artwork for the song in the woods while duck hunting.

Additionally, Wallen noted he is donating $100,000 from the Morgan Wallen Foundation to the Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) program.

“I hope young aspiring musicians read this story and know they should never have to give up their creative freedoms for an opportunity in this business,” he said, adding, “Trust me, when new music is ready, you’ll hear it directly from me.”

Wallen also told fans that he begins recording his next album at the end of February. “I’m feeling inspired creatively & super excited to make more music I’m proud of,” he said.

Muni Long’s ‘Made for Me’ Moves Into Top 10 on Hot R&B Songs Chart

Muni Long banks her second top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart as “Made for Me” races 15-8 on the list dated Jan. 27. The single, already a major airplay hit, finds its new wind thanks to the release of its music video and a resulting social media trend that fueled streaming and sales bumps.

“Made for Me,” released on Supergiant/Def Jam Records, earned 3.9 million official U.S. streams in the tracking week of Jan. 12 – 18, according to Luminate, up from 125% to 1.8 million the previous week. The nearly 2-million stream improvement comes largely thanks to the song’s growing viral profile from a video started by TikTok creator @milck.marie, in which participants (usually in blue pajamas) sing the song’s hook while walking toward the camera. On TikTok, the track’s main audio has swelled to soundtracking 163,000 clips – up from 44,000 on Jan. 18. In addition, the song’s official music video, which stars actor and singer Luke James, dropped at the tail end of the tracking week, on Jan. 17.

As “Made for Me” rallies, the track also climbs to 1,000 sales downloads in the week, a gain of 128% from the prior week. The sales bump also sparks the single’s No. 2 debut on R&B Digital Song Sales.

While “Made for Me” enjoys fresh viral buzz, the single has already proven a strong airplay hit on the R&B formats. The tune drops 2-3 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, with an 8% decline in plays in the latest tracking week, after five nonconsecutive weeks in the runner-up spot. Notably, “Made for Me” tied the singer-songwriter’s “Hrs and Hrs” as her highest peak on the radio ranking.

Anchored by the adult R&B format support, “Made for Me” reached a No. 14 best on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which combines audience from both adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations. On the latest chart, the track slides 14-15, though it improves in audience to 7.4 million, a 9% increase from the previous week. Given the renewed social media activity, it’s possible that the single could attract additional radio gains in the coming weeks. There’s already positive momentum – “Made for Me” sits just outside the 40-position cutoff for the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart but improved 101% in plays in the latest tracking week compared to the one prior.

Elsewhere, “Made for Me” impresses on two other main Billboard charts: It moves 45-39 in its second week on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list and debuts at No. 93 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

Mesita, Nicki Nicole, Emilia & Tiago PZK’s ‘Una Foto’ Rules Billboard Argentina Hot 100 for a Second Week

Mesita, Nicki Nicole, Emilia and Tiago PZK‘s “Una Foto” holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart (dated Jan. 27) for a second week.

The song earned Uruguayan Santiago Messano, better known as Mesita, his first champ on the overall Argentina songs chart, when it flew from No. 30 to No. 1 (list dated Jan. 20). While Nicki Nicole added her fourth leader and Emilia her third, Tiago PZK secured his sixth, entering into a tie with Maria Becerra for the second-most, both with six No. 1s, trailing only Bizarrap’s long-standing crown with nine rulers.

Argentinian rapper Khea earns his first top 10 in 2024, and sixth overall, as “Hola Perdida,” with Luck Ra, rises 8-2. Luck Ra captures his fourth top 10.

Young Miko nabs her highest-charting song with her first Bizarrap collab, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 58”. The song, which gives the Puerto Rican her second top 10, picks up the Greatest Gainer honors of the week, as it climbs 55 rankings, from No. 58 to No. 3. Bizarrap ups his top 10 career count to 20. Young Miko is also set to receive the Impact Award at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards, taking place March 6 and streaming on March 7.

Elsewhere, Emilia notches her 29th entry on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 as “Jet_Set.Mp3,” her team-up with Nathy Peluso, debuts at No. 30. The song, the Hot Shot Debut of the week, gifts Peluso her highest debut thus far, after “Argentina,” with Trueno, debuted and peaked at No. 48 in May 2022.

Further, two other songs debut this week, starting with “Tal Para Cual” by Salastkbron and Omar Varela, which starts at No. 55. The track brings back Varela to the tally, after “P Rreo,” with Kaleb Di Masi, Salas, and Alejo Isakk, took him to a No. 99 high in April 2022. Lastly, Ariana Grande secures her 11th chart entry with “Yes, And?” at No. 61.
