AC/DC Announce Dates For 2024 U.K./European Stadium Tour

AC/DC are gearing up for their first European tour in eight years. The veteran hard rockers announced on Monday morning (Feb. 12) that they are gearing up for the European Power Up tour with a line-up featuring singer Brian Johnson, guitarist Angus Young, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug and Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction) replacing longtime bassist Cliff Williams. Williams retired from the band after the conclusion of the 2016 Rock or Bust tour, returning to the fold briefly for the 2020 Power Up album.

The 21-show swing in 10 countries is slated to kick off with the first of two dates at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on May 17, followed by shows in Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland before hitting London’s Wembley Stadium for a pair of shows (July 3, 7), Germany, Slovakia and Paris and then winding down with a gig at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland on August 17.

Tickets for tour will go on sale to the general public on Friday (Feb. 16) between 9-10 a.m. local time; click here for more ticketing information.

The European swing follows AC/DC’s long-awaited return to the stage last year at the all-star hard rock Power Trip festival in Indio, California. The band began teasing their 2024 return on socials last week, posting images of a lightning bolt and a countdown cued to a snippet of “Are You Ready” from 1990’s The Razors Edge.

Power Up marked the return of singer Johnson, who had stepped aside while touring in 2016 due to hearing-loss issues, with Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses filling in for 22 shows; the tour also saw the band reunited with drummer Phil Rudd after a stint in rehab. The band did not tour in support of Power Up after the seven-leg, 17-month-long stadium outing in support of Rock or Bust.

Jimmy Barnes Sets Australia Tour Following Life-Threatening Condition

Jimmy Barnes is back.

The legendary Australian rocker will make another comeback for the ages when he performs at Byron Bay Bluesfest on March 31, a warm-up for a full-scale tour of Australia.

This is no ordinary return to the stage. The 67-year-old singer is back from a life-threatening condition. Less than two months ago, Barnes was in ICU, after undergoing open-heart surgery, following an illness that refused to budge.

Last November, after opening the Mushroom 50 Live concert at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, where he powered his way through “No Second Prize” and his signature song, “Working Class Man,” Barnes contracted bacterial pneumonia.

He was admitted to hospital on Nov. 27, 2023 and became “very unwell” while in hospital with the development of staphylococcal bacteraemia a few days after admission, explains a statement from reps.

Medics discovered he had an abscess at an old operation site due to the infection which required surgical intervention. The staph infection undermined Barnes’ health, causing endocarditis, a life-threatening condition that without urgent treatment may well have been fatal, reps say. Surgeons immediately checked-in Barnes for cardiac surgery on Dec. 13 to replace the aortic valve. The valve itself was replaced some years ago due to a “congenital defect,” he has said.

A year earlier, Barnes revealed he would go under the surgeon’s knife to correct “constant and severe pain” in his back and hip, the result of “jumping off PAs and stomping around stages” for more than 50 years. He also underwent back surgery in 2014, which kept him in hospital on Fathers Days (Sept. 7).

Those health problems, it would seem, are in the past.

“Every day I’m getting stronger. Every day I’m pushing myself a little bit further,” Barnes explains. “I’m excited about getting back on stage, in front of the band and playing for you all. And what better way is there to kick it off than the legendary Bluesfest Byron Bay with a really special celebration of Flesh and Wood. I really want to thank everyone for their support and good wishes while I was ill. The family were passing on your messages of care and it really lifted my spirits.”

Barnes will mark his return to the stage at Bluesfest over the Easter Long Weekend, celebrating the 30th  anniversary of his Flesh and Wood LP. Then, two-time ARIA Hall of Fame-inducted artist and his band will headline a run of rescheduled Red Hot Summer Tour dates in April.

Later, Barnes will lead a stretch of stripped back, intimate theater shows on the Hell of a Time tour, running through June, July and coming to a halt Aug. 18 at the Sydney Opera House.

Barnesy, as he’s affectionately known in these parts, is a living legend, with 15 leaders on the ARIA Chart — an all-time record. Counting his five leaders with Cold Chisel, Barnes boasts an unprecedented 20 No. 1s, comfortably eclipsing the Beatles (with 14), Madonna (12), Eminem and U2 (11).

The Scotland-born singer was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame with Cold Chisel in 1993, and again as a solo artist in 2005, and is the first Australian solo act to have a No. 1 album in every decade since the 1980s.

In the lead-up to Christmas 2023, Mushroom Labels issued an expanded version of Blue Christmas, his 20th studio album and most recent No. 1.

Noah Kahan Extends Chart Reign In U.K. With ‘Stick Season’

Noah Kahan hits the U.K. chart for six as “Stick Season” (via Republic Records) extends its reign.

The Vermont, U.S. singer and songwriter’s breakthrough folky number racks-up a market leading 8.3 million streams, the Official Charts Company reports, as it collects a sixth straight week at No. 1.

That’s the longest consecutive streak atop the Official U.K. Singles Chart since Dave & Central Cee’s “Sprinter” ran through the pack in the summer of 2023.

“Stick Season” leads an unchanged top three, ahead of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” (Polydor) and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” (Atlantic), respectively.

There’s change, however, for Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”(Warner Records) which vaults 11-5, for the U.S. artist’s first career appearance in the U.K. top 10.

Another artist on the rise is YG Marley, grandson of the late, great Bob Marley, and son of Ms. Lauryn Hill, whose independently-released “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” improves 20-9. That’s Marley’s first-ever U.K. top 10 appearance.

Ella Henderson and Rudimental’s “Alibi” (Atlantic) has a new high point, lifting 24-16 in its fourth week. “Alibi” samples the late Coolio’s 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which logged two weeks at No. 1 and finished the year as the U.K.’s second biggest-selling single.

It’s a great week for The Last Dinner Party, the critically-lauded London band, whose debut LP Prelude to Ecstasy (via Island) blasts to No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart. The lead single from it, “Nothing Matters,” lifts 22-19 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, published Friday, Feb. 9, for the five-piece band’s first U.K. top 20 appearance.

Also on the rise is Justin Timberlake’s “Selfish” (up 37-29 via RCA) and Michael Marcagi’s TikTok-powered “Scared To Start” (Warner Records), up 38-31 – a new career high for the singer-songwriter and Cincinnati native.

Finally, it’s a good week for Good Neighbours, the English indie-rock duo of Oli Fox and South London-based Scott Verrill, whose debut single “Home” (Some Action) cracks the top 40 for the first time. “Home” runs 81-40.

The Last Dinner Party Serve Up U.K. No. 1 ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’

The Last Dinner Party feasts on the U.K. chart as Prelude to Ecstasy (via Island) blasts to No. 1.

The outright leader at the midweek point, Prelude to Ecstasy clocks 32,800 chart units in its first week, the Official Charts Company reports.

That’s the biggest opening week for a debut album by a band since 2015, when electronic pop act Years & Years accumulated 55,000 with their debut, Communion.

Also, according to the OCC, the Last Dinner Party’s first-week result includes more than 14,000 vinyl copies, for the fastest-selling debut album by a group on vinyl of the century, and the highest sales week for a vinyl album since Oasis’ The Masterplan remaster dropped last November.

Based in London, the indie-rock five-piece (Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci) has some serious hype behind it.

The group snagged this year’s BRITs Rising Star Award and the BBC Sound Of 2024 poll, a brace that assures the Last Dinner Party status as the next big thing in music.

Prelude to Ecstasy features “Nothing Matters,” their breakthrough debut single which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official U.K. Singles Chart.

Also new to the Official U.K. Albums Chart, published Friday, Feb. 9, is Jamie Webster’s 10 For The People (Modern Sky), at No. 2. With that effort, the Liverpool, England singer and songwriter boasts a new career high, outdoing 2022’s Moments, which peaked at No. 3.

Glasgow, Scotland singer and songwriter Dylan John Thomas enjoys a top 40 debut with his self-titled debut album (via Ignition), new at No. 21, while Britpop-era psychedelic rock act Kula Shaker nabs a fourth U.K. top 40 whose latest release Natural Magick (Strange Folk), new at No. 22.

Finally, Taylor Swift fever spreads on the U.K. chart following the announcement of The Tortured Poets Department, her forthcoming 11th studio album. Several of Swift’s recordings spike on the tally, including 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (up 8-5), Midnights (up 15-6), Folklore (up 18-10), Lover (up 17-13), reputation (up 20-14), and Evermore (up 51-40), all through EMI. Announced during the 2024 Grammys broadcast, The Tortured Poets Department is due out April 19.

Watch Taylor Swift Kiss an Emotional Travis Kelce After Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl 2024 Victory

Travis Kelce is officially a Super Bowl champion two years in a row. And after a tense game complete with many long minutes of overtime, Taylor Swift was on hand at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to help the tight end celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Shortly after the Chiefs proved victorious, Kelce gave a passionate post-game speech where he yelled, “Viva Las Vegas” and his borrowed catchphrase, “You gotta fight for your right to party” as Swift, seemingly fighting back happy tears, looked on. She then found the athlete in the crowd and kissed him several times, hugging him close and telling him he’s “unbelievable.”

Moments before, cameras had caught the “Karma” musician jumping up and down as her friends collapsed on her in a group hug after quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw the game-winning touchdown.

Wearing a red Chiefs bomber jacket, bejeweled black pants and a gold “87” necklace, Swift attended the game with Blake Lively, Ice Spice, Lana Del Rey, Miles Teller and Keleigh Sperry. The “Anti-Hero” singer’s parents, Scott and Andrea Swift, were also in the building, as were Kelce’s parents and brother Jason Kelce.

The 14-time Grammy winner has been supporting the Chiefs through much of this season, attending her first game at Arrowhead Stadium in September. She and her friends have become mainstays at Kelce’s matches ever since, and she also joined the Ohio native on the field after the AFC Championship to plant a celebratory smooch on him after Kansas City’s triumph over the Baltimore Ravens.

Watch Taylor Swift celebrate the victory with her friends, and kiss two-times-in-a-row Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce below.

Taylor Swift Reunites With Sir Paul McCartney at 2024 Super Bowl

With Las Vegas known as the entertainment capital of the world, it was expected that some of the biggest stars would be in attendance at Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday (Feb. 11).

In a new photo (above) from the game, in which the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the San Francisco 49ers, Taylor Swift spent some time with Sir Paul McCartney.

The Beatles member and the “All Too Well” singer previously teamed up for a wide-ranging conversation for Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians series. Before that, McCartney has said that “Who Cares,” a track from his 2018 solo album Egypt Station, was actually inspired by Swift and the fan connection she has.

“I was actually thinking about Taylor Swift and her relationship to her young fans and how it’s sort of a sisterly thing,” McCartney told the BBC. “And I was imagining talking to one of these young fans and saying, ‘Have you ever been bullied? Do you get bullied?’” he continued. “Then I say, ‘Who cares about the idiots? Who cares about all this? Who cares about you? Well … I do.’”

Swift, of course, was at the Super Bowl supporting her boyfriend and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She was joined at the event by her famous pals Blake Lively and Ice Spice, and spent time with her “Snow on the Beach” collaborator Lana Del Rey.

The Kansas City Chiefs eventually won 25-22 in overtime.

What Was Your Favorite Moment From Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance? Vote!

Fans got it bad for Usher, who took the stage for the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show presented by Apple Music on Sunday (Feb. 11).

The superstar performed a medley of hits, including “Caught Up,” “Burn,” “U Got It Bad,” “Confessions Part II,” “Love In This Club” and more, all while delivering his characteristically sultry dance moves for the roaring crowd at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.

Usher also had a few surprises up his sleeves, as he was joined by a few of his celebrity friends on stage, including Alicia Keys for a mashup of “If I Ain’t Got You” and “My Boo,” before H.E.R. delivered a jaw-dropping guitar solo, and Ludacris and Lil Jon teamed up to hype up the crowd with a medley of “Turn Down for What” and “Yeah!”

In his Billboard cover story, Usher said shared that his Las Vegas residencies had helped him prepare for the halftime show, as has studying past Super Bowl acts. “I’ve watched every performer, analyzing how they maximized those 12 minutes,” he shared. “But you know, your moment is your moment. And this is a moment I’ve prepared for during the last 30 years.”

Usher’s fiery halftime show comes just a few months after closing one of the most successful and buzzed-about Las Vegas residencies in history, as his My Way show grossed $95.9 million.

Which moment from Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance was your favorite? Let us know by voting in our poll below.

Usher’s Super Bowl Triumph Caps One of the Decade’s Greatest Pop Comebacks

Timing really is everything in pop music. At various times in the last 20 years, an Usher Super Bowl set might have seemed too soon, too late or just not quite right. But while the pre-game debate was real about whether Usher was thuddingly obvious or a reach as a halftime headliner, by the time he stepped into the Allegiant Stadium spotlight Super Bowl LXVIII on Sunday night (Feb. 11) it should have been clear to everyone that the time was right for Usher to take the world’s biggest stage. And with his 15-minute, crowd-pleasing, decade-spanning set of classic hits, he reconfirmed his status as one of one of pop’s greatest living entertainers.

It was the culmination of a half-decade of subtle gains in career momentum for Mr. Raymond, who never totally disappeared, but spent most of the mid-to-late ’10s in commercial erosion amidst underwhelming sales and some tough headlines. But a handful of winning next-gen collabs, an impossibly perfect Hustlers cameo, a well-received Vegas residency (and a meme-spawning Tiny Desk performance) and his biggest chart hit in 10 years (“Good Good”) all served to both remind of his peerless pop and R&B legacy and revitalize his contemporary relevance. With a strong new album (Coming Home) arriving on Friday — just a couple days after the announcement of an upcoming arena tour, his first in nearly a decade, and a month before the 20th anniversary of his Confessions blockbuster — the stage was set in about every conceivable way on Sunday for Usher to answer any remaining “Usher??” questioning around his Super Bowl appearance with a big ol’ “YEAH!

Unsurprisingly, he did exactly that. From the second he slipped off his robe to transition from early signature hit “My Way” to 2005 smash “Caught Up,” Usher was in control, gliding through about a dozen of his biggest hits — all top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100 hits, except the enduring Confessions fan-favorites “Superstar” and “Bad Girl” — with the effortlessness of a guy who’s been informally training for this opportunity his entire career. Big-name guests were greeted, shirts were shed, rollerskates were rollerskated and 15 minutes went by in a brilliantly choreographed blink.

Really, for a performance billed as the longest in Super Bowl history, the set was still perhaps most notable for its efficiency: expertly plotted transitions like the opening verse to “Nice & Slow” seamlessly igniting the hissing intro of “Burn” minimized downtime, while guests Alicia Keys, H.E.R., will.i.am and Lil Jon were smartly all given their own brief spotlight moments while Usher executed his costume changes and caught his changes. And while some of the buzzed-about home-run guests never quite materialized — sorry, BeyHive and Beliebers — the guests present provided an ideal spread of Usher’s underrated career versatility, equally convincing tearing the club up with Lil Jon, going future-pop with will.i.am and doing classic pop&B love duets with Keys.

The performance thrived more on small moments than true OH S–T jaw-droppers — not like Usher was ever likely to top Rihanna’s reveal from last year in that department. But it was such a rich production that you could’ve missed some of the best details, like the marching band that punctuated set closer “Yeah!” spelling out U-S-H-E-R in the bottom-left corner of your screen, or the wrist-watch graphic projected onto the stage below him during “Nice & Slow” highlighting a 7:00 (on the dot) time. And Usher certainly showcased some of his more unique skills as a performer, turning the stage into a roller-rink (and skating between will.i.am’s legs) on “OMG” and tearing his top off during the climactic “U Got It Bad,” flaunting a still-chiseled physique that should make him the seething envy of 45-year-old males worldwide.

If there was fault to be found with Usher’s halftime performance, it would likely focus on the insufficient mic-ing on his early vocals, which undersold softer moments like his falsetto’d verses on “U Don’t Have to Call” — he’s a strong vocalist, but not so much a powerhouse that he couldn’t have used a little extra juice there. And while it’s not tragic that stellar current hit “Good Good” didn’t make the cut for the tracklist, it was a little bit of a bummer that 2010’s “OMG” was his only song from the last 15 years that did — while most of Usher’s biggest songs may have come pre-Obama, he’s never stopped releasing excellent singles and albums (and had sizable hits with a number of them). It does Ush a little bit of a disservice to present him solely as a catalog act.

But these are relatively small complaints for a thoroughly satisfying, comeback-capping performance from Usher Raymond. “They said I wouldn’t be here today,” he commented while dedicating his rendition of “Superstar” to his mother. “Hey Mama, we made it.” From another performer — especially one with Usher’s exceptional resumé — it could have easily come off as Khaledian bluster, but for Ush, it felt like a fairly well-earned moment of triumph. And whoever they are, they probably won’t be making such comments again anytime soon.

Beyoncé Drops 2 New Songs, Unveils ‘Act II’ Release Date: Here’s When It Arrives

Mere seconds after starring alongside Emmy-winning actor Tony Hale in a hilarious Verizon commercial during Super Bowl 2024, Beyoncé has finally revealed the second act of the three-act project she announced back in 2022.

On Sunday (Feb. 11), the “Cuff It” singer posted a mysterious teaser to her official Instagram page. In the video, an unidentified woman — presumably Beyoncé herself — starts up a car with a license plate that reads “Texas Hold ‘Em.” The woman drives the car down an empty road before the clip then cuts to a group of men staring incredulously at the sky. The focus of their stares? A billboard cutout of a red lingerie-clad Beyoncé lounging in a seductive pose.

“This ain’t Texas,” she croons over finger-picked guitars in the background. “Ain’t no hold ’em/ So lay our cards down, down, down, down.” The clip then cuts to a black screen that reads “Act II, 3.29.”

Queen Bey’s official website sports the same teaser, as well as the same date of March 29. Under the site’s music tab, a section for Act II includes empty credits section, clean and explicit tabs, and two track titles — “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” which are listed as the record’s opening two tracks, respectively. Both tracks are now available to stream on TIDAL and YouTube.

Between the references to her home state of Texas and the country sound of the new music snippet, it looks like fans were onto something with their theory that Beyoncé’s next LP will find her delving into country music. The still-untitled Act II is the follow-up to Renaissance. That album, Beyoncé’s seventh solo studio effort, debut atop the Billboard 200, spawned a pair of Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits — “Break My Soul” (No. 1) and “Cuff It” (No. 6) — and soundtracked the historic Renaissance World Tour, which grossed over $579 million.

Check out Beyoncé’s new Act II teaser and songs below:

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Feb. 9) on Billboard, choosing the couple’s duet as their favorite new music release of the past week.

Stefani and Shelton performed the song ahead of the big game on Sunday (Feb. 11) for the Super Bowl TikTok Tailgate. Their latest husband-and-wife duet follows their previous collaborations: 2019’s “Nobody But You,” 2021’s “Happy Anywhere,” 2023’s “Love Is Alive” and more.

“Purple Irises” has them singing about their love.

“But if someone comes along and tries to love you like I love you/ Don’t know what I’d do, don’t wanna lose you/ If someone comes along and tries to take you, tries to make you/ Don’t let ’em change your mind,” they sing.

“I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake. This was just a big old ‘What?’ It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time,” Stefani recalled of falling in love with Shelton, in an interview with People in fall 2023. “He’s changed my life … when I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt home, like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.’”

Trailing behind “Purple Irises” on this week’s poll is Usher’s album Coming Home, with 17% of the vote, and Musgraves’ self-reflective single “Deeper Well,” with 7% of the vote.
