Adam Lambert killed it last year in his Broadway debut as the Emcee in the revival of Cabaret. Now the singer is taking the stage again in another iconic musical, and this time he’ll share the boards with another powerhouse vocalist also known for having a flashy fashion sense.

Grammy nominee Lambert has been tapped to play Judas opposite the show’s previously announced gender-bending Jesus, Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, in the upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl. “This production of Jesus Christ Superstar, bringing the much-loved, iconic musical back to its rock roots, is the latest installment in the Hollywood Bowl’s tradition of producing and presenting a staged Broadway musical,” read a statement announcing the special event.

At press time, the three-night production (Aug. 1-3) has not announced who will play the role of Mary Magdalene.

“For many Angelenos and concertgoers, the Hollywood Bowl is the premier summer destination for live music,” said L.A. Phil president/CEO Kim Noltemy in the announcement about the return of the musical that was first performed at the iconic L.A. venue in 1971. “Each season, the LA Phil presents world-class artists in a truly one-of-a-kind setting, and this year is no exception. We’re especially thrilled to welcome Adam Lambert to the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar and look forward to sharing this bold, fresh interpretation of a legendary musical, returning to its rock roots, with our audiences.”

Tickets for the show — and all single performances of any L.A. Phil-presented summer concerts at the Bowl — swill go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. PT on Tuesday (May 6); click here for more details on tickets. The Lambert/Erivo Jesus Christ Superstar will be directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo and conducted by Tony- and Grammy-winner Stephen Oremus.

Kelly Clarkson believes in love again. After dropping the new single “Where Have You Been” on Friday (May 2), the singer followed up with a high-gloss video for the song in which she rocks a colorful, glittery jumpsuit with billowing arms that looks straight out of the 1970s Cher Las Vegas collection.

“I like my freedom but I’d trade some for a kiss/ Little do you know how long I’ve been waitin’ for this/ When it came to my hopes, well, they left skies I won’t miss/ I was getting so lonely I didn’t count on, count on this,” Clarkson sings in the visual for the power ballad that shifts from glam shots of the singer and daytime talk show host to dramatic silhouette images of her band members in shadow.

The hip-swaying, emotion-packed weeper about finding your soul mate after years of searching was inspired by the onscreen romance between Meryl Streep and Martin Short’s characters in the hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. “It’s Martin Short’s face,” she told listeners on her SiriusXM show last week. “He says to Meryl Streep’s character in the show, ‘Where have you been?’”

The song’s soaring chorus says it all: “Where have you been?/ What took so long?/ I thought I’d found you/ Found out I was wrong/ I almost gave us/ My light was so dim/ And now, here you are/ Where have you been?”

“He’s like in awe, and I was like, ‘Has anyone written a song?’” Clarkson continued on the episode that aired the day before the song’s release. “Because the song is happy, ’cause it’s like you found something that you thought was almost basically a unicorn and did not exist.” Streep and Short’s characters got married in the fourth season of the murder mystery show and, in a too-sweet parallel, the two actors are rumored to be dating for real as well.

Clarkson’s band shines in the second half of the video, with the stage bathed in golden light as they come into focus and the singer belts out one of her signature clear-as-a-bell high notes.

Miley Cyrus debuted another new song from her upcoming visual album Something Beautiful (May 30) during a show for an intimate audience at Casa Cipriani in New York on Saturday night (May 3). “Oh I stay when the ecstasy is far away/ And I pray that it’s comin’ ’round again,” Cyrus croons in a video from the set in which her raw vocals are accompanied by dramatic piano during the first public run through “More to Lose.”

“And you say it, ‘I wish it wasn’t true’/ I knew someday that I would have to choose/ I thought we had more to lose,” she crooned as the crowd went wild. In another video, she leaned into the powerful pre-chorus, growling, “You’re looking like a movie star in a worn-out coat/ Yeah, I throw away my mind/ And it happens all the time.”

As stirring as the song was, something Cyrus said while introducing it really caught people’s attention. “I have a lot of people that I’ve known and loved for a very long time in this room,” Cyrus said while setting up the performance. “Even a couple of exes.” At press time it was unknown who attended the gig and which former paramours Cyrus may have been referring to.

Before the show, Cyrus posted a different preview of the song from a recording studio in which she modeled a classic little black dress. “Sharing this song from the same place it was created… at the piano,” she said before busting into the moving ballad, singing, “The TV’s on, but I don’t know/ My tears are streaming like our favorite show/ Tonight, tonight/ My memories fade like denim jeans/ I try to chase when you’re running through my mind.”

She also posted some dramatic black and white pictures from the special performance just days ahead of Monday’s (May 5) 2025 Met Gala.

Cyrus’ ninth album, Something Beautiful, is the follow-up to 2023’s Endless Summer Vacation and it has been described as a 13-track visual “pop opera.” So far she’s teased the LP with the singles “Something Beautiful” and “End of the World.”
