Josh Osborne landed four nominations and Ashley McBryde secured three nods. Carrie Underwood and Luke Combs received multiple nods as well.

2022 CMA Awards Performers & Presenters

The CMA Awards will open with a tribute to Loretta Lynn performed by Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Underwood. Alan Jackson will receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which will include a musical tribute performed by Dierks Bentley, Jon Pardi, Underwood and Wilson.

The 2022 CMA Awards will broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday. The show is set to air at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on ABC and stream on Hulu the following day.

Alabama Co-Founder Jeff Cook Dies at 73

Guitarist Jeff Cook, who co-founded the mega-successful country group Alabama and steered them up the charts with such hits as “Song of the South” and “Dixieland Delight,” has died. He was 73.

Cook had Parkinson’s disease and disclosed his diagnosis in 2017. He died Tuesday (Nov. 8) at his home in Destin, Florida, said Don Murry Grubbs, a representative for the band.

Tributes poured in from country stars, including Travis Tritt who called Cook “a great guy and one heckuva bass fisherman” and Charlie Daniels, who tweeted that “Heaven gained another guitar/fiddle player today.”

As a guitarist, fiddle player and vocalist, Cook — alongside cousins Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry — landed 33 No. 1 songs on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart, including the pop crossover hits “Love in the First Degree” and “Feels So Right,” as well as “Tennessee River” and “Mountain Music.”

“Jeff Cook, and all of the guys in Alabama, were so generous with wisdom and fun when I got to tour with them as a young artist,” Kenny Chesney said in a statement. “They showed a kid in a T-shirt that country music could be rock, could be real, could be someone who looked like me. Growing up in East Tennessee, that gave me the heart to chase this dream.”

The band had a three-year run as CMA entertainer of the year from 1982-85 and received five ACM Awards trophies in that same category from 1981-85. The band was the first three-time winner and the first five-time winner of that top award at the respective shows. Cook stopped touring with Alabama in 2018.

Cook released a handful of solo projects and toured with his Allstar Goodtime Band. He also released collaborations with Charlie Daniels and Star Trek star William Shatner. He entered the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005 as a member of Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa.

Despite being in the mainstream for only four years, Hendrix built an unbreakable legacy that turned him into one of the most influential artists in music.

The Seattle native, born on Nov. 27, 1942, got his first guitar at age 15. He entered the military before embarking on a musical career and became known for classics like “Purple Haze” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).” Hendrix headlined the first Woodstock Festival in 1969 before his life was tragically cut short at age 27.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Celestial’ Soundtracks Trailer for New Pokémon Games

Pokémon dropped the trailer for its upcoming games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet on Tuesday (Nov. 8) featuring Ed Sheeran‘s latest single “Celestial.”

“A journey of celestial proportions awaits. Thanks for the incredible track @edsheeran,” the official UK account for the Nintendo franchise tweeted along with the teaser. The clip introduces the games’ new starter Pokémon: Sprigatito, Quaxly and Fuecoco and the world of Paldea while Sheeran croons, “You make me feel/ Like my troubled heart is a million miles away/ You make me feel/ Like I’m drunk on stars and we’re dancing out into space/ celestial/ celestial.”

The British hitmaker first announced the Pokémon-centric single back in September by showing off his new Squirtle tattoo and reminiscing in an Instagram post about how obsessed he was with the trading cards and video games as a kid. An adorable music video accompanying the song features Sheeran being zapped out of bed by an animated Pikachu before encountering other Pokémon such as Slowpoke, Lapras, Machamp and Charizard throughout his day.

Both Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are set to hit stores on Nov. 18. Sheeran, however, is already hard at work on his follow-up to his 2021 No. 1 album = (Equals). Earlier this month, the singer teased the as-yet-untitled studio set’s prospective 2023 release from the set of a windswept music video.

Last week, Sheeran also set a new chart record in his native U.K. by becoming the first and only artist to have four albums chart inside the Official Albums Chart Top 10 for an entire year.

This TV Personality Says Justin Bieber Is ‘Scared to Death’ of Her

A certain television icon is pleading guilty on all charges of frightening Justin Bieber. In a Monday (Nov. 7) interview with Access Hollywood, Judge Judy Sheindlin said that the 28-year-old pop star, who used to be her neighbor, once avoided her at all costs following a few scathing comments she made about him several years ago.

While promoting her Amazon Prime show Judy Justice, the 80-year-old former prosecutor had a good laugh while talking about where she stands with the celebrity she once shared a corner of California with. “He’s scared to death of me,” she said.

The Judge Judy star went on to recall how Bieber acted after she told CBS Los Angeles in 2014 that the “Peaches” singer was “doing a very good job of making a fool out of himself.”

“It was a period of time before he grew up, when he was foolish and doing foolish things,” she remembered. “I must have said something about it, and then I understood that he was paying the front door people to let them know when I was there coming and going so he wouldn’t have to bump into me.”

Sheindlin’s 2014 comments on Bieber’s behavior followed a handful of controversies involving the pop star. A couple months beforehand, he had been charged with assaulting a limo driver (the charge was later dropped), and in January 2014, police searched his home after he allegedly egged a neighbor’s house. He was also arrested that month on charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license. Seven years after the incident, Bieber opened up about that time in his life. “Not proud of where I was at in my life. I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead, misunderstood and angry at god.. I also wore too much leather for someone in Miami. All this to say God has brought me a long way,” he wrote on Instagram in 2021.

“Nobody’s going to remember that he was a marginal singer,” Sheindlin had also said of her then-neighbor at the time. “But they’re going to remember a young kid who had a chance to have it all and who is blowing it by acting like a fool.”

Turns out, one icon who was also supposed to appear on the show was Whitney Houston. In a new episode of Glee stars Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz’s podcast And That’s What You Really Missed, the duo shared a conversation they had with the popular series’ creator, Ryan Murphy.

Murphy revealed that Houston initially agreed in 2009 to play the part of Grace Hitchens — a choir director at a school for female juvenile delinquents — over the phone. The season one role ended up going to Eve. “She just loved that it was about kids in choir, and she was like ‘This is phenomenal. Like, that you’re doing a show about show choir,’” he recalled of Houston’s enthusiasm for the role.

“She didn’t end up doing it, and Eve was phenomenal,” Murphy continued, noting that he didn’t think Houston “was in the right place and time” to play the role. Houston died just a few years later in 2012.

In a new Billboard cover story, Houston’s longtime manager and sister-in-law Pat discussed a string of events that aim to put the public image surrounding Whitney focused back on her voice and not the tabloid drama. Earlier this year, Pat and music publisher and marketer Primary Wave announced a partnership giving the company a 50% stake in Whitney’s assets and since then, Primary Wave says it has quadrupled the estate’s fortunes.

“With everything that’s going on right now, she’s still touching lives, and that’s what I want to do in a very positive way,” Pat told Billboard. “She should be remembered by her music and the work that she’s done in the community, not by her relationships. And the fact that all these things are happening proves that. It’s a clear path without any distractions to make things continue to happen for her legacy.”

Chris Redd Shares Details About Kanye West’s ‘Disrespectful’ Pro-Trump Rant on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Chris Redd opened up in a new interview on Tuesday (Nov. 8) about having a front row seat to Kanye West‘s pro-Trump diatribe on Saturday Night Live back in 2018.

In case you don’t remember, after performing “Ghost Town” as the episode’s musical guest, the rapper launched into a political rant once the cameras stopped rolling, telling the audience, “The Blacks want always Democrats… you know it’s like the plan they did, to take the fathers out the home and put them on welfare… does anybody know about that? That’s a Democratic plan. There’s so many times I talk to, like, a white person about this and they say, ‘How could you like Trump? He’s racist.’ Well, uh, if I was concerned about racism I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago,” while wearing a red MAGA hat.

However, Redd revealed to The Daily Beast that Ye’s speech wasn’t exactly off-the-cuff. “I remember the dress rehearsal where he tried his dress rehearsal version of that, and I heard it, but there was music playing still so people were like sitting there and vibing,” the comedian told the outlet. “But I was listening to his words, and I was like, bro, he’s about to pull some bulls–t. And I’m not about to be on stage for that. I’m not going to entertain this. Like, I’ve been a fan of Kanye my whole life. And I miss the old Kanye.

“He came in there wanting to shoot everybody — verbally — and I just felt that was disrespectful, because we’re all grown adults,” Redd continued. “And now all of us don’t like you. He just came in there with a chip on his shoulder, ready to talk s–t.”

Redd departed SNL at the close of the 2021-2022 season. West has not been invited back to the late-night sketch series since his rant on the Season 44 premiere.

Taylor Swift Explains Why 2022 Midterms Are More Important ‘Than Any Year in Modern History’

Taylor Swift is taking a break from her regularly scheduled Midnights programming to let fans know how important it is to head over to the polls and vote in Tuesday’s (Nov. 8) midterm elections. In the singer’s Instagram Story, she made a passionate plea to her followers about this election’s importance and cited all the issues voters have at stake.

“Remember to vote today! It’s Election Day in the United States. This year, more than any year in modern history, the Midterm Elections will affect our access to fundamental rights, basic reproductive healthcare, and our ability to make our government work for us,” Swift wrote in a text image.

She continued, “Your vote is your voice, which is why it’s so important that you use it. If you haven’t voted early, make a plan to vote before the polls close! See who’s on your ballot and find your polling place at vote.org.”

Swift is just one of the latest celebrities to stress the importance of voting in the midterm elections this year. Billie Eilish put out a similar statement to her followers via Instagram on Nov. 5. “I want to explain why I am voting this year and how important I think it is for you to vote,” Eilish said in the video. “Our rights, our freedoms, and our futures are on the line, and if we don’t show up, there is a good chance we will see a national ban on abortion, with no exceptions … They also wanna take away the freedom to marry who we love, restrict voting rights, and enact laws that threaten the progress that must be made on climate change… It scares me.”

While Swift did not name who she plans to vote for, her friend Selena Gomez endorsed Beto O’Rourke in this year’s midterms. Kacey Musgraves and Harry Styles also endorsed O’Rourke, while other musicians like Barbra Streisand, Katy Perry and more gave other political candidates their seal of approval. Here’s What Joe Jonas Thinks About Frankie Jonas Trolling Him With Taylor Swift Couples Costume

Much better! Joe Jonas had nothing but nice things to say about his younger brother Frankie Jonas’ rather incredible Halloween costume as a circa 2008 version himself and ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift.

“Yes, he got some laughs,” the Jonas Brothers singer admitted to Entertainment Tonight during a press junket for his upcoming movie Devotion. “It was good, he looked good. I like it. I think that’s my shirt — I need it back.”

For the couples costume, the younger Jonas donned what was apparently his older brother’s black T-shirt emblazoned with the logo to the sibling act’s Burnin’ Up Tour, and completed the look with a matching vest and black skinny jeans. Meanwhile, Frankie’s girlfriend, Anna Olson, dressed as Swift during her self-titled era with a metallic silver dress.

The pair were actually making specific reference with their couple’s costume to the Jonas Brothers’ 2009 concert film, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, in which Joe and Taylor duetted on her single “Should’ve Said No.”

While the superstar couple’s relationship was short-lived — they would eventually break up after three months during an infamous (and brief) phone call, and Swift would go on to immortalize the moment in Fearless cut “Forever and Always” — they’re now on friendly terms, with Taylor even sending Joe and his wife Sophie Turner a gift to welcome their first baby, Willa.

For his part, Frankie recently wrapped up hosting the ABC reality series Claim to Fame alongside his eldest brother Kevin Jonas.
