“You all know me as Mary the entertainer, but I can’t wait for you to get to know me as Mary the friend,” Blige shared in a new 30-second promo, published on Wednesday (Feb. 15) by ET. In the clip, she’s seen chatting with guests 50 Cent, Taraji P. Henson and Yung Miami of the City Girls.

“This is what I always wanted to do with a show that’s about me hanging out with people that I love, respect and admire,” the “Good Morning Gorgeous” added in the teaser, in which she chats with her guests about everything from their careers to their relationships.

The show comes fresh off the heels of Blige’s highly anticipated performance the 2023 Grammy Awards, in which she was nominated for a number of categories including album of the year for Good Morning Gorgeous, and record of the year for the album’s title track. 2023 marked the first time Blige was nominated as a solo artist in one of the Big Four categories at the ceremony since her nomination for record and song of the year in 2007 for “Be Without You.”

Selena Gomez Says the New Music She’s Working on Is ‘Powerful, Strong’ & ‘Very Pop’

Rise, Selenators! Fresh off the release of Only Murders in the Building season two and her Apple TV+ documentary My Mind & Me, Selena Gomez is giving her fans yet another thing to be excited about. In an interview with Vanity Fair, published on Wednesday (Feb. 15), the Disney Channel alum revealed that she has been hard at work at the studio and teased what her fans can expect from her next record.

“The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through. It’s really powerful, strong, very pop,” Gomez said of her yet-to-be-titled project. “The theme generally is freedom—freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness.”

The Rare Beauty founder explained that while wants to make upbeat tracks for her fans to devour, she would much more prefer making a different type of music instead. “If I had my way, I would probably write ballads my whole life, but I want to produce music that will make people smile,” Gomez shared elsewhere in the interview.

Though the pop star shared little details about her upcoming project, the teaser likely provides a sigh of relief to fans expecting new music from her. Gomez has not released a studio album since Rare, which arrived three years ago in January 2020. The set crowned the Billboard 200, and spent a total of 26 weeks on the all genre chart. By March 2021, Gomez returned with her Spanish language EP, Revelación, which debuted at No. 22 on the Billboard 200; on Top Latin Albums, the EP peaked at No. 1 and spent 20 weeks on the chart.

‘Eye of the Tiger’ Co-Writer Slams Nikki Haley For Playing Hit at Campaign Event: ‘Don’t Use My F–king Song!’

Former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley launched an atypical bid for the White House in a pretty typical fashion on Wednesday (Feb. 15). The Republican taking on her former boss, one-term president Donald Trump, revved up the crowd at her Charleston, South Carolina announcement this morning by walking on to one of the most beloved underdog fight anthems of all-time: Survivor‘s 1982 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Eye of the Tiger.”

“Stop using my f—ing song!,” the hit’s co-writer, Survivor keyboardist Frankie Sullivan, tells Billboard about his reaction to finding out about the latest politician’s attempt to co-opt the track he wrote for Sylvester Stallone’s classic underdog film, Rocky III. “This morning I get up and I’m doing my thing, writing and i turn on my phone and it explodes and I’m like, ‘What happened is my mom okay?’ That song belongs with the Rocky franchise and they don’t ask because they’d get a no. Absolutely.”

Haley, 51, who has leaned into her story of being a woman and person of color — she is the child of Indian immigrants — and who rose to the highest office in the South is the first member of the GOP to officially announce a bid to take on twice-impeached Trump, whose third bid for the White House has so far failed to catch fire. At press time, a spokesperson for Haley had not returned Billboard‘s request for comment.

Back in 2016, Republican Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign had to pay a $25,000 settlement over claims they used “Eye of the Tiger” at a rally with Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who made headlines for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Sullivan says he is really protective of the song, but unlike the suit he filed against the former Arkansas Governor, he’s not currently planning to launch a legal fight with Haley.

“I don’t care who it is, I don’t think it’s appropriate, especially with ‘Tiger,’ since it’s such a special song,” he says of the track that he notes hit No. 1 in 39 countries and has become shorthand for a hard workout or, to quote the indelible lyrics, “rising up to the challenge.”

“I have no idea why any politician would play that as a walk on,” he adds, laughing, “I would say you have to have balls… but in this situation that doesn’t apply.” Teetotaler Sullivan says he doesn’t know much about Haley — and tries not to mix politics and entertainment because that would be “the dirtiest martini anyone ever drank” — but thinks her use of “Tiger” is a “sick way to promote the song. I wish they would just stop this nonsense!”

He recalled that when Trump played “Tiger” at campaign rallies he had his lawyer call the Apprentice star’s team and the usage stopped without incident. But, to be honest, he’s tired of playing this game and though he isn’t on the phone with his lawyer, it’s enough already. “I’m amused, but is this s–t really still going on?” he wonders.

Though Haley is expected to distance herself from the disgraced president facing a raft of lawsuits for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election — as well as his alleged corrupt business practices and allegations of sexual assault — by choosing the beloved theme song from the Rocky threequel she definitely tore a page from Trump’s populist soundtrack playbook.

During his first White House run, Trump fell afoul of more than a dozen major rock and pop acts by using their music during his rallies to pump up the crowd. In November, the estate of Isaac Hayes threatened legal action against the former reality star within an hour of Trump’s third announcement to stop him from using “Hold On I’m Coming” at his events; Hayes, who died in 2008 at age 65, co-wrote the 1966 Sam & Dave hit with David Porter.

On his way out of office after being defeated by Pres. Joe Biden, the Village People also called out “bully” ex-president Trump for playing their gay anthem “Y.M.C.A.” one more time against their wishes at his sparsely attended farewell event on Jan. 20, 2021.

For years Trump ignored pleas from a long list of famous acts to cease and desist from using their music during his rallies and political events and in addition to the costumed disco act, the legacy manager for Laura Branigan took issue with Trump playing her hit “Gloria” at his final official appearance as well. Over the five years of his campaigns and presidency, artists ranging from Adele to Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, R.E.M., Aerosmith, Panic! at the Disco, Guns N’ Roses, The Rolling Stones, Rihanna and the estates of Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty and Prince have vociferously objected to Trump playing their music at his rallies.

Jin Gives ARMY a Special Valentine’s Day Message Spelled in Macarons: Watch

A sweet treat. Jin surprised ARMY with a Valentine’s Day message posted to the official BTS YouTube channel on Tuesday (Feb. 14).

“Hello everyone, it’s Jin. It’s February now and I came here to see you….In February, there’s Valentine’s Day. Right? I’m pretty sure. Which is why I prepared these desserts here,” the K-pop idol says in the clip, showing off the tray of colorful macarons in front of him.

Pointing out that he’s rounded up seven of the French confections because of the seven members in BTS, Jin proceeds to write a message in his native Korean on the macarons, spelled out entirely in chocolate sauce. “Since only ARMY are gonna be watching this video, I’m gonna write stuff related to ARMY,” he says before struggling to spell out the name of the BTS fandom in chocolate on the first two pastries.

From there, “The Astronaut” singer decides to add more to the message, writing, “I love you lots” with a heart on the last macaron. (“It’s harder than I thought, this requires a lot of skills,” he mentions before declaring, “This is perfect.”)

The video message comes at the perfect time for ARMY whom are missing Jin while he’s in basic training as part of his required enlistment in the South Korean military. But don’t worry, the vocalist finished up the clip by promising he’d “come back with something else next month” on the BTS YouTube channel before signing off with a cheery “Bye!”

In other BTS news, Suga unveiled the dates for his very first solo tour earlier this week, which will begin April 26 at UBS Arena in Belmont Park, New York.

Rihanna Wants to Release an Album ‘This Year,’ Talks Super Bowl Politics, Motherhood & Pregnancy

Rihanna‘s fans have questions, and finally, the mystical pop star finally has some answers, thanks to a candid new interview with British Vogue.

First thing’s first: Will this year finally be the one Rihanna drops her first album since 2016’s Anti? She hopes so. “I want it to be this year,” Rih told the publication in the Wednesday (Feb. 15) profile. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”

“I realized that if I keep waiting until this feels right and perfect and better, maybe it’s going to keep taking forever and maybe it’ll never come out and no, I’m not down to that,” she added, revealing that she never actually stopped recording music, but is indecisive about which songs are good enough for release. “I have my ideas in my head, but I can’t say them out loud yet.”

The interview with British Vogue — in which she posed alongside boyfriend A$AP Rocky and their adorable baby son — took place back in January, right after Rih and A$AP attended the Golden Globes together. There was still a month left to go before the “Lift Me Up” singer (who lost the Globe for best original song but is nominated for an Oscar) would perform for the first time in years at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which went down Sunday (Feb. 12).

Rih expressed feeling nervous for the 13-minute, aerodynamic medley of hits, during which she subtly revealed that she’s pregnant with her second baby. On Sunday, though, it all went off without a hitch.

The publication hinted that the Fenty Beauty founder has been approached by the NFL every year for ten years to perform at halftime, an offer she poignantly declined in 2018 to stand in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. Asked about why she decided to accept this year, Rih said she was inspired by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s 2022 Halftime Show to continue the streak of “representing the urban community, globally.”

“There’s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes,” she said of the NFL’s infrastructure. “But it’s powerful to break those doors, and have representation at such a high, high level and a consistent level.”

Even before she knew that she’d be pregnant with her second child with Rocky, Rih couldn’t believe she agreed to be this year’s headliner so soon after giving birth to her son, whose name they keep private. “I’m going to say yes to the Super Bowl in the middle of postpartum? What the heck am I thinking?” she recalled thinking.

One major struggle she’s faced since she and Rocky welcomed their baby boy in May last year is the invasiveness of paparazzi. “Throw me to the wolves. Do what you want with me. But he doesn’t have a say in any of this,” Rih said. “We’ve been protecting him thus far and you don’t have any consent to be posting photos or selling photos of my child, a minor. Get the hell out of here with that.”

When it comes to her relationship, though, becoming parents has only strengthened things between her and Rocky, whom she’s been dating since 2020. “We’re best friends with a baby,” Rih told the publication. “We have to be on the same page, but we’ve always kind of had that in our relationship. Everything changes when you have a baby but I wouldn’t say it’s done anything but made us closer.”

Ana Barbara to Receive Icon Award at the 2023 BMI Latin Awards

BMI announced on Wednesday (Feb. 15) that Mexican singer-songwriter Ana Bárbara will be honored with the Icon Award at the 30th Annual BMI Latin Awards.

Set to take place March 21 in Los Angeles, the grupero artist will become the the first regional Mexican women songwriter to receive this award, “recognizing her exceptional talent and outstanding contributions to the Latin music community since the beginning of her career nearly 30 years ago,” according to a press release. The private event will be hosted by BMI president & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice president, creative, Latin, Jesus Gonzalez.

“As an iconic female Regional Mexican artist, whose body of work continues to be an indomitable inspiration for the creative community, we’re thrilled to name Ana Bárbara a BMI Icon,” Gonzalez said in a statement. “Dubbed as La Reina Grupera, she has forged a career that spans decades. Her artistic achievements have paved the way for the next generation of female songwriters in the genre and earned the respect of the industry at large as one of the most groundbreaking songwriters of all time. For that, we salute Ana as a true icon and look forward to celebrating all our top music creators behind some of today’s most-performed Latin songs.”

The “Bandido” singer joins an elite group of artists who have received BMI’s highest honor including Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Juan Luis Guerra, Los Tigres Del Norte and Los Lobos, among others. Throughout her 30-year career — which she kicked off in the early ’90s with her self-titled debut album in 1994 — Ana Bárbara has a total of 16 entries on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs, four of those are top 10 hits including “La Trampa” and “Me Asusta Pero Me Gusta.” On the Regional Mexican Airplay tally, she’s entered 21 songs, five of which hit the top 10.

During the event, BMI will also recognize the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most-performed Latin songs in the U.S. The BMI regional Mexican song, songwriter, BMI contemporary Latin song, songwriter and BMI contemporary Latin and regional Mexican publisher of the year will also be named during the ceremony.

T-Pain Announces Covers Album Featuring Sam Smith, Chris Stapleton and Black Sabbath Songs

After several requests to give more cover tracks a spin, T-Pain is listening to his fans. On Wednesday (Feb. 15), the “Buy U a Drank” rapper announced that he is gearing up to release a non-Auto-Tuned album that will feature a series of cover songs intended to give his vocals a real chance to shine.

The album, titled On Top of the Covers, will see The Masked Singer season one winner giving the world his own renditions of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show’s “Sharing The Night Together,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” Frank Sinatra’s “That’s Life” (with a feature from NandoSTL) and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

T-Pain first teased the release of the project on Tuesday (Feb. 14) via Twitter. A fan of the rapper tweeted, “Anything that T-Pain covers or remixes is always so hard.” The Billboard Hot 100 hitmaker replied, “Buckle up because I got an announcement coming tomorrow.” He reposted the tweet exchange to his Instagram, adding a message to his followers to “Stay tuned.” A fan in the comments hilariously guessed, “T-Sinatra or Frank Pain,” which ended up being accurate.

On Top of the Covers will be released on March 17. To support the album release, the rapper also shared that he will be performing two back-to-back concerts at Los Angeles at the Sun Rose at Pendry West Hollywood on March 17-18. On Top of the Covers marks the rapper’s first album release since 2019’s 1UP.

Watch Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s Adorable Valentine’s Day Duet

That country kind of love. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani celebrated Valentine’s Day on Tuesday (Feb. 14) with a romantic duet on social media.

In a black-and-white video posted to Shelton’s Twitter and Instagram feeds, the pair of lovebirds perform their 2019 duet “Nobody But You,” singing, “I don’t wanna live without you, I don’t wanna even breathe/ I don’t wanna dream about you, wanna wake up with you next to me/ I don’t wanna go down any other road now/ I don’t wanna love nobody but you/ Lookin’ in your eyes now, if I had to die now/ I don’t wanna love nobody but you.”

While the country star’s social team encouraged his followers to tag their valentines in the post, most opted to focus on The Voice coaches’ lovey-dovey relationship. “Find someone who looks at you like this two look at each other,” one fan wrote on Instagram, while another commented, “Happy Valentine’s Day to my favorite celebrity couple.” A third had an idea in mind in the wake of Rihanna’s epic Super Bowl performance, suggesting, “Blake and Gwen for the next Super Bowl halftime show!”

Shelton and Stefani most recently wrapped filming Season 22 of The Voice together, with the former winning his ninth season as a coach with champ Bryce Leatherwood. Team Gwen last won Season 19 with teen sensation Carter Rubin.

This spring, the “Hollaback Girl” singer is set to headline the 2023 BeachLife Festival in Redondo Beach, Calif., alongside The Black Keys and The Black Crowes.

Skrillex, Four Tet & Fred Again.. To Play Madison Square Garden This Weekend

Skirllex, Fred again.. and Four Tet will play Madison Square Garden this Saturday (Feb. 18). The show, announced today (Feb. 15), will serve as a large-scale celebration of Skrillex’s sophomore album, Quest For Fire, dropping this Friday (Feb. 17) on OWSLA/Atlantic Records.

Tickets for the show go on sale today at 1 p.m. ET. The MSG show will mark the biggest event that the trio have played together thus far, launching their b2b2b threesome last month at a trio of clubs in London and continuing the run last night at Good Room in Brooklyn.

“Last night in New York was so fun with my brothers Four Tet and Skrillex,” reads an email sent out today to Fred again..’s mailing list. “So due to popular demand we’re announcing another date, Madison Square Garden, on Saturday.” Skrillex also announced the set today via his Instagram.

The show marks a massive return of dance music to the iconic venue, which became a de facto dance scene hub during the EDM boom, hosting sold-out shows from era-defining acts including Swedish House Mafia and Jack Ü, Skrillex’s project with Diplo. This weekend’s show will mark both Four Tet and Fred again..’s debut appearances at MSG.

A press release notes that “this week is expected to be monumental for everyone involved in the project and fans who have been keeping up with recent events alike,” with attached imagery featuring the names of album collaborators including Justin Bieber, Porter Robinson, Missy Elliott and many more.

“Last night, the collision of the three artists’ styles was apparent from the jump; throughout the night you could confidently guess who was behind the selection of each track,” reads our review of the January show in London. “The hosts regularly interacted with the eager, Thursday night crowd, checking in by throwing a singular cordless mic between each other. At one point, Fred jumped on to the mic to ask, ‘Do you all have enough room to dance?’ His rhetorical question was answered by squeals and screams — not dissimilar to hysterical fans at a boy band concert. The sea of people rippled as one, as people stayed put on the dancefloor for the entire set.”
