Foo Fighters Match Shinedown for Most Mainstream Rock Airplay Top 10s with ‘Rescued’

Foo Fighters tie Shinedown for the most top 10s in the history of Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, as “Rescued” zooms from No. 11 to No. 5 on the May 13-dated tally.

“Rescued” is the Foos’ 30th top 10, tying the band with Shinedown for the most upper-chart hits dating back to the ranking’s 1981 inception.

The Dave Grohl-led band first reached the chart’s top 10 with its breakthrough hit “This Is a Call,” which reached No. 6 in August 1995. Prior to “Rescued,” it had last reached the top 10 with the No. 3-peaking “Love Dies Young” in March 2022.

Of Foo Fighters’ 30 top 10s, 11 have reached No. 1, most recently one-week ruler “Making a Fire” in September 2021.

Most Top 10s, Mainstream Rock Airplay:
30, Foo Fighters
30, Shinedown
29, Five Finger Death Punch
28, Godsmack
28, Tom Petty (solo and with the Heartbreakers)
26, Metallica
26, Van Halen
25, Disturbed
25, Papa Roach

Shinedown broke out of a prior tie with Foo Fighters for the most Mainstream Rock Airplay top 10s and became the first act to reach 30 with “Dead Don’t Die,” which reached No. 2 in March and currently ranks at No. 6.

Concurrently, “Rescued” lifts 5-4 on Alternative Airplay — where Foo Fighters set a new mark for the most top 10s (29) a week earlier – and leaps 40-16 on Adult Alternative Airplay.

On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, “Rescued” remains at its No. 2 high with 9 million audience impressions, up 14%, according to Luminate. Two weeks earlier, the band also garnered a share, again with Shinedown, of the chart’s top 10 record (15 each) with the single.

“Rescued” ranks at No. 3 on the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs survey. In addition to its radio airplay in the tracking week, the song earned 905,000 official U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads.

“Rescued” is the lead single from But Here We Are, Foo Fighters’ 11th studio LP and the band’s first since the March 2022 death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. The album is due out June 2.

Eslabon Armado & Peso Pluma’s ‘Ella Baila Sola’ Makes History Atop Streaming Songs Chart

Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” climbs to No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart dated May 13.

It’s the first regional Mexican song to top Streaming Songs in the tally’s 10-year history.

In the April 28-May 4 tracking week, “Ella Baila Sola” earned 34.6 million official U.S. streams, a 2% increase, according to Luminate.

The song is the first No. 1 on Streaming Songs for both acts. For Peso Pluma, it’s his first in his premiere appearance on the ranking, while Eslabon Armado had charted once before with the No. 43-peaking “Jugaste y Sufri,” featuring DannyLux, in October 2021.

“Ella Baila Sola” marks the first Streaming Songs ruler either predominantly or completely in Spanish since Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone’s “Me Porto Bonito” crowned the survey for two weeks – July 30, 2022, and Aug. 6, 2022.

Pluma boasts two tunes in Streaming Songs’ top 10, with “Ella Baila Sola” joined by his Yng Lvcas collaboration “La Bebe” at No. 5 (21.6 million streams).

Concurrently, “Ella Baila Sola” reigns on Hot Latin Songs for a fifth week and remains at No. 4 on the all-format Billboard Hot 100.

The song’s parent album, Eslabon Armado’s Desvelado, also debuts at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 with 44,000 equivalent album units earned, as previously reported.

YOASOBI’s ‘Idol’ Logs Fourth Week at No. 1 on Japan Hot 100

YOASOBI’s “Idol” continues to rule the Billboard Japan Hot 100, holding at No. 1 for the fourth consecutive week on the chart dated May 10.

While figures for both metrics are down slightly from the previous week, the Oshi no Ko opener continues to rule streaming with 25,433,131 streams and video with 8,570,370 views. The track also returned to No. 1 for downloads this week with 32,878 units, up 7 percent from the week before. These results show the diversification of fan activity in terms of contact and ownership, indicating that this latest hit could be expanding the fanbase of the breakout duo itself.

Additionally, the song rises 9-3 for karaoke with a 90 percent increase, also showing the rapidly expanding fanbase of the “Monster” pair. The track’s point total is more than double that of the song at No. 2 this week and its domination of the Japan charts is likely to continue.

THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE’s “16BOOSTERZ,” the song at No. 2, and Sexy Zone’s “Cream” at No. 5 were the two new singles vying for No. 1 for physical sales this week, and the four-man Johnny’s group’s 23rd single came out on top with 227,372 copies, ahead of the 16-member LDH group’s 19th single, which launched with 197,450 copies. But “16BOOSTERZ” racked up points in other metrics, coming in at No. 2 for radio, No. 86 for downloads, and No. 45 for streaming, overtaking “Cream,” which only added points through radio airplay (No. 10) and video (No. 55).

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, audio streams, radio airplay, video views and karaoke data.

Priyanka Chopra Shares the Nick Jonas Song That Makes Her ‘Weak in the Knees’

Priyanka Chopra appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday (May 10) to chat about her relationship with Nick Jonas.

Sitting down with host Alex Cooper, the Citadel actress said that she was initially attracted to her pop star hubby after he “had the confidence to slide into my DMs and ask me out” after crossing paths at the Met Gala.

“Literally, like, his message was ‘I’ve been told we should meet,” she revealed. “How cocky! [gasps] So sexy. I love it!”

When Chopra googling the Jonas Brothers singer, the first result that came up was the music video for his 2016 solo single “Close” featuring Tove Lo, which prompted her to “immediately” send the singer her number. “I mean, I knew of the Jonas Brothers but I…different generations, also,” she confessed. “I grew up in India, you know? I was doing Indian pop culture at that time, I didn’t know about the music as much.

“At least a date. That body deserves at least a date,” she said after watching the video. “That video! His voice. That song, still, every time he sings that song on stage for me, like, I get weak in the knees.”

As fans know, the superstar couple got married in a lavish Indian wedding with multiple ceremonies in Dec. 2018 and Chopra told Cooper the secret to their relationship is in their unflinching support of one another. “Like, I’ve found my husband and I have this incredible partnership of ‘I’ve got you,’ and we communicate and we feel a sense of…you know that trust exercise? I would never do that with anyone else except Nick,” she added with a laugh. “I don’t trust people, but he’s one that, just, I know has my back.”

Here’s Why BLACKPINK Fans Think Jennie Teased a Song Collab With The Weeknd

Jennie stars in The Weeknd‘s upcoming HBO show The Idol, but that might not be the only project the two pop music titans are cooking up together. Fans are convinced that the BLACKPINK star, while playing DJ at a recent event honoring her partnership with Calvin Klein, just previewed a sultry new duet with the “Blinding Lights” singer — and they couldn’t be more excited.

Looking stunning in a simple purple dress, Jennie was captured on video manning the sound system at the fashion celebration in Seoul alongside twin sisters/DJ duo Simi and Haze Khadra (P.S., Simi Khadra is The Weeknd’s rumored girlfriend of over a year). The three ladies dance as a vibey track plays out, featuring two voices that sound an awful lot like Jennie Kim and Abel Tesfaye’s.

But if that wasn’t convincing enough, Jennie herself reposted the video onto her own Instagram Story and tagged both The Weeknd and The Idol‘s official Instagram pages, seemingly confirming that the unreleased track is a collaboration set for the show’s soundtrack. The Khadra sisters also shared similar footage on their Story, and tagged The Weeknd, The Idol and Jennie.

“Am i dreamin? We got Jennie x the weekend, this is so cool,” one fan commented on the Instagram video reposted by Jennie. “jennie x the weeknd??? OH HELL,” wrote another.

So far, only one song has been released from The Idol‘s soundtrack as the drama series approaches its much-delayed June 4 premiere on HBO. The Weeknd and Future dropped lead single “Double Fantasy” late last month, just a few days after the “Die For You” musician debuted the track live during Metro Boomin’s Coachella performance.

Co-created by The Weeknd and Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson, The Idol stars Tesfaye as a nightclub owner/cult leader who takes over the career of a pop star named Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp. Not much is known yet about Jennie’s supporting role, but you can catch glimpses of her in some of the show’s trailers.

Billie Eilish Releases a Short Cover of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’: Stream It Now

Tuesday (May 9) was a big day for O.G. Billie Eilish fans. After her five-year-old SoundCloud cover of Drake‘s “Hotline Bling” started gaining traction on TikTok last month, the singer has now released an official version that’s available for the first time ever on streaming services.

Simply titled “Hotline (edit),” the new cover is just one minute long. Eilish’s original take, produced by Finneas and posted in June 2018 to SoundCloud, is double that length, but the new release only includes its second half.

The 21-year-old pop star slows down Drake’s uptempo 2015 smash, singing the song’s hook through waves of far-off reverb over relaxed ukulele strums and a bright synth countermelody. Fans who want to hear her perform the song’s full chorus and first verse, though, will have to stick with the SoundCloud version.

Prior to Tuesday, Eilish’s cover was a lot harder to come by. Other than SoundCloud, one of the few other places fans could find it was on a special two-song Record Store Day vinyl, which also featured the Grammy winner’s 2017 track “party favor.” Fan videos show that Eilish also used to perform “Hotline” at her concerts in 2017, using it as a segue into “Party Favor.”

Now that it’s finally out, fans couldn’t be happier. “I’VE WAITED YEARS FOR BILLIE TO UPLOAD THIS COVER,” wrote one in the song’s comments on YouTube.

“my heart !!! i’m so happy this is trending on tiktok…,” commented another. “it reminds me of the time when billie was our little secret. so proud of all her and finneas’s accomplishments !!!”

Gordon Lightfoot Streams Spike 290% After His Death

Streams, sales and radio airplay of Gordon Lightfoot’s catalog jumped by triple-digit percentages following the Canadian singer-songwriter’s death.

In the April 28-May 4 tracking week, official on-demand U.S. streams of Lightfoot’s music ballooned 290% to 14 million, according to Luminate, from 3.6 million the prior week (April 21-27).

Additionally, Lightfoot’s catalog moved 41,000 song downloads, a 3,629% surge from 1,000 the previous frame.

His overall album consumption totaled 20,000 equivalent album units, up 511% from 3,000. Of that sum, 6,000 units were via album sales.

Lightfoot’s radio airplay audience vaulted by 317% to 3 million impressions, from 730,000.

The influx of interest in Lightfoot’s deep catalog — he first reached a Billboard chart in 1969 — sparks his appearances on multiple surveys dated May 13. That haul includes the No. 1-selling track in the United States, as “If You Could Read My Mind” bows atop Digital Song Sales with 10,000 sold, up 4,162%.

Additionally, “Sundown” (9,000 sold, up 2,976%), “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” (7,000, up 3,429%) and “Carefree Highway” (4,000, up 4,283%) also enter the top 10, at Nos. 3, 5 and 10, respectively.

The four songs encompass Lightfoot’s career Billboard Hot 100 top 10s. “Mind” reached No. 5 in February 1971, “Sundown” reigned for a week in June 1974, “Highway” hit No. 10 that November; and “Edmund Fitzgerald” peaked at No. 2 in November 1976.

All four songs appear on Rock Digital Song Sales at Nos. 1-3 and 5, respectively. They’re joined by 1975’s “The Soul Is the Rock” (No. 12; 2,000 sold).

“Sundown” leads a trio of Lightfoot songs on the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart (where older titles are eligible to appear if in the top half with a meaningful reason for their resurgences). The song bows at No. 11, with its download sales joined by 3.3 million streams, up 64%.

“Mind” (No. 17; 2.1 million streams, up 99%) and “Edmund Fitzgerald” (No. 20; 1.9 million streams, up 127%) also enter the survey.

“Sundown,” “Edmund Fitzgerald,” “Highway” and “Rock” reach Country Digital Song Sales, at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 13, respectively.

On the all-format Billboard 200, Lightfoot’s Gord’s Gold collection returns at No. 95 thanks to 11,000 units, up 3,086%. It’s the set’s first appearance on the chart since January 1977, after it reached No. 34 a year earlier.

Gord’s Gold also reaches Americana/Folk Albums (No. 3) and Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Country Albums (No. 17 on both).

Multiple Lightfoot songs dot Billboard’s LyricFind charts, which rank the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries and usages globally and in the U.S., provided by LyricFind. “Sundown” leads the way at No. 1 on LyricFind U.S. with an 884% increase in lyric searches and usages following Lightfoot’s death, according to LyricFind.

Lightfoot died of natural causes in Toronto May 1 at age 84.

Cardi B & Offset’s Daughter Kulture Was Starstruck Meeting Halle Bailey at ‘The Little Mermaid’ Premiere

Disney’s The Little Mermaid made its splashy Hollywood premiere on Monday (May 8), and it was a magical night complete with meeting a princess for Cardi B and Offset’s daughter, Kulture.

The little girl — who attended alongside sister Kalea (Offset’s daughter from a previous relationship) and their dad — had the chance to meet Halle Bailey (the new live-action film’s Ariel) just before watching the movie, as captured in a video.

The clip shows the starstruck 4-year-old and Bailey sharing a sweet moment in which Kulture quickly embraces The Little Mermaid actress for a hug. The star then crouches down to the little girl’s level to give her a proper hug.

Bailey also shared the love she has for Cardi and Offset’s daughters on Twitter. Another user shared video of Kulture and Kalea walking in with their dad for the carpeted event, which the singer-actress re-shared to her own account in a quote tweet. “They loooked so beautiful!!!!” she gushed, adding several hearts and teary-eyed emojis.

In an earlier message, Bailey expressed her feelings after attending the premiere for the movie, and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to star in it. “The little mermaid LA premiere.. we made it you guys, i’m so overwhelmed and overjoyed that this movie is almost here for you all to see,” she wrote. “this was the first premiere of the press run and i have been in tears and feeling oh so grateful.”

‘Madonna x Meisel – The SEX Photographs’ Auction Coming to Christie’s

Madonna‘s ongoing 30h anniversary celebration of her infamous 1992 erotic coffee table book Sex will continue this summer and fall thanks to a Christie’s auction of select photos from the volume. “Madonna x Meisel — The SEX Photographs” will honor Yves Saint Laurent’s 2022 reissue of the photo book from the singer and fashion photographer Steven Meisel with a series of public displays and an auction in which more than 40 works will go under the gavel in New York on Oct. 6.

Ahead of the auction, a curated selection of photographs will be on view in London (May 23-June 2), Paris (June 27-July 6) and New York (Sept. 30-Oct. 6). The original book sparked a sensation — and lots of pearl clutching — at the time of its release thanks to the explicit photos of the pop icon and erotic text in which she introduced her dominatrix character Mistress Dita amid images of Madonna with rappers Big Daddy Kane and Vanilla Ice, as well as model Naomi Campbell, gay porn star Joey Stefano and others.

It became the fastest-selling coffee table book of all time and in 2022, Madonna and Saint Laurent’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, honored the 30th anniversary with the fist-ever re-edition of the book with 800 limited-edition copies and a first-time gallery show at last year’s Miami Art Basel.

“The much-deserved hype and white-hot energy given off by Madonna in the early 1990s was conveyed and immortalized through Steven Meisel’s photographs,” read a statement from Christie’s deputy chairman and international head of photographs. “He knew how to capture the allure and sexuality of pop’s reigning queen in a way that was unrivalled. In the intervening 30 years since her infamous SEX book was released — shot exclusively in collaboration with Meisel — what has become clear is how truly iconic those photographs remain. They sit at a moment in art history of the late 20th century that both summarizes a moment, playful and prescient, and hints at the future of public stardom driven by image-conscious figures. These images are nothing short of brilliant. ”

Doja Cat Says ‘Planet Her’ & ‘Hot Pink’ Were ‘Cash-Grabs,’ Reveals New Album Title

It looks like Doja Cat is ready to step into her next era, but not before burning bridges with her old ones. Minutes before revealing the new title to her upcoming album, the star tweeted Tuesday evening (May 9) to take a dig at her highly successful past two releases, Planet Her and Hot Pink.

“Planet her and hot pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it,” Doja wrote, referencing her 2021 third studio album and her 2019 sophomore effort, respectively. “Now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

Both LPs charted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. Billboard has reached out to RCA comment.

Exactly seven minutes later, the “Woman” musician tweeted again — this time, to share her highly anticipated fourth album’s title. The project was previously tentatively called Hellmouth, a name teased by Doja on Twitter earlier this year.

“its not called hEllMoUth either its called ‘First of All’ and yes I’m announcing the album title right now,” she updated fans.

Now, this is Doja Cat we’re talking about. She’s openly taken pleasure in misleading fans about the direction of her next record. For instance, in September she insisted in a magazine interview that her upcoming project was inspired by 1990s German rave music. After the interview came out, however, she tweeted, “I’m not doing a german rave culture album you guys i was pranking the outlet that interviewed me about it.”

She then proceeded to fire off a series of flip-flopping tweets claiming that the album was everything from rap to R&B to rock to experimental jazz. So, as far as Doja’s album-related announcements go, it’s best to take them with several grains of salt.

In other Doja news, the Grammy winner is fresh off a purr-fect night at this year’s Met Gala — where she wore a prosthetic cat nose and ears to match late designer Karl Lagerfeld’s pet kitty, Choupette — and debuted a new tattoo of a bat skeleton that covers her entire upper back.

And even though Doja doesn’t seem to think much of her past work, her recent award certainly begs to differ. Also on Tuesday, she was crowned pop songwriter of the year at the BMI Pop Awards for penning songs such as “Get Into It (Yuh),” “Woman,” “Need to Know” and “You Right,” all of which were featured on Planet Her.

See Doja’s tweets below:
