Mammoth WVH Nabs Second Straight Top Hard Rock Albums No. 1

Mammoth WVH makes it two-for-two atop Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart, as Mammoth II debuts at No. 1 on the tally dated Aug. 19.

In the Aug. 4-10 tracking week, Mammoth II opened with 22,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate. Of that sum, 20,000 units are via album sales.

It’s the Wolfgang Van Halen-led band’s second No. 1 on Top Hard Rock Albums, following debut album Mammoth WVH, which premiered atop the June 26, 2021, survey with 31,000 units.

With two No. 1s in two tries, Mammoth WVH is the first act to send its first two Top Hard Rock Albums full-length entries to the top spot since Greta Van Fleet, which doubled up with 2018’s Anthem of the Peaceful Army and 2021’s The Battle at Garden’s Gate (and continued its streak with Starcatcher this summer).

Mammoth II also starts at Nos. 3 and 6 on the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums lists, respectively. On the all-genre Billboard 200, the set begins at No. 28.

The album’s lead single, “Another Celebration at the End of the World,” peaked at No. 7 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay ranking in June, as well as at No. 10 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart in July. A follow-up single has not yet been announced.

One other song from the album makes a Billboard chart: “I’m Alright” debuts at No. 19 on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales. “Another Celebration at the End of the World” hit No. 18 on the survey in April.

Artists With the Most No. 1 Songs on the Hot 100, From The Beatles to Rihanna & More

Over 30,000 songs have graced the Billboard Hot 100 in the chart’s 65-year history. Of those, 1,151 have reached No. 1 (as of the chart dated Aug. 19, 2023) — a select 3.8 percent.

One of the rarest feats, perhaps, is repeating at No. 1 on the Hot 100 10 times — as only 10 artists in history have earned the distinction.

The elite list features eight solo artists and two groups. The Beatles lead all acts, with a whopping 20 No. 1s — a record they’ve held since 1965, when they surpassed Elvis Presley.

Presley, who’s notably absent from the list below, scored seven No. 1s in the Hot 100 era. The start of Presley’s career predated the Hot 100, which launched on Aug. 4, 1958, meaning that some of his classics, such as “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Hound Dog” and “Jailhouse Rock,” preceded the chart’s existence. He did, however, reach the summit with “A Big Hunk O’ Love,” “Stuck on You,” “It’s Now or Never,” “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” “Surrender,” “Good Luck Charm” and “Suspicious Minds.”

As for the artists just outside the 10 No. 1 hits club: Bee Gees, Elton John, Katy Perry, Paul McCartney (solo and with Wings), Taylor Swift and Usher have all topped the Hot 100 nine times, while Beyoncé (excluding Destiny’s Child’s four leaders with her as a member), Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, George Michael (excluding two billed solely to Wham!) and The Rolling Stones have eight each.

Here are the 10 artists who have tallied 10 or more No. 1 hits on the Hot 100:

Foo Fighters Break Record for Most Rock & Alternative Airplay Top 10s

Less than three months after tying Shinedown for the most top 10s in the history of Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, Foo Fighters take sole possession of the distinction.

“Under You,” the latest single from Foo Fighters’ new album But Here We Are, vaults 36-8 on the Aug. 19-dated ranking with 3.1 million audience impressions, a 163% surge, according to Luminate.

It’s the Dave Grohl-fronted band’s 16th top 10, the most among any act in the 14-year history of the survey, which reflects airplay on alternative, adult alternative and mainstream rock stations. Shinedown now has the second-most, 15, having broken the record earlier this year via “Dead Don’t Die,” which peaked at No. 3 in April.

Most Top 10s, Rock & Alternative Airplay
16, Foo Fighters
15, Shinedown
13, Cage the Elephant
13, Imagine Dragons
13, twenty one pilots
11, The Black Keys
11, Muse
10, Disturbed
10, Weezer

Foo Fighters tied the record with “Rescued,” which eventually led the list for 11 weeks between May and July; the song ranks at No. 2 on the latest chart with 5.2 million impressions.

The band first reached Rock & Alternative Airplay’s top 10 with “Wheels,” a two-week ruler in 2009.

Concurrently, “Under You” flies 38-17 on Alternative Airplay and 37-21 on Mainstream Rock Airplay. “Rescued,” led both rankings, for 10 and six weeks, respectively.

“Under You” also returns to the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs tally at No. 17. In addition to its airplay, the song earned 269,000 official U.S. streams Aug. 4-10.

But Here We Are debuted at No. 1 on the Top Alternative Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums surveys dated June 17 and has earned 121,000 equivalent album units to date.

Jonas Brothers Super Fan Asked Joe Jonas to Draw Her a Picture, Which She Promptly Turned Into a Tattoo

The Jonas Brothers had a busy week in Boston during their two-night stand at the TD Garden on Tuesday and Wednesday. On their first night they celebrated Joe Jonas‘ 34th birthday and youngest bro Nick suffered an unforced error when he fell into a trap door on the stage and quickly popped back up.

Joe also took some time during one of the shows to grant one super fan’s request, which she happily flipped from a temporary high to a permanent mark. In video shared by a fan named Tarryn, Jonas struts down the catwalk and spots a sign that reads: “Draw me a tattoo?” He then promptly takes a look at Tarryn and proceeds to draw a picture on her poster to squeals of delight as the show continues in the background.

In a TikTok of the moment, Tarryn shows off the result, which consisted of a crude drawing of their faces inside a box, with Joe mouthing the words “it’s me and you.” The video then jumps to a tattoo artist working on Tarryn’s leg and the big reveal of the faces on her shin and the caption, “Best night of my life!!!” In comments she wrote, “I almost threw up making eye contact with him omfg.”

It’s not the first time Joe has flashed his spontaneous ink master skills. Back in January he also spotted a sign that read “Joe, draw my next tattoo” with a similar blank box just begging for a JoBro original design. That time, Joe sketched sketched out a cloud with a lightning bolt coming out of it, which the fan promptly got inked on her ankle. Eagle-eyed Jonatics noted that the image coordinated with the song the Bros were singing at that moment, “Strangers,” which features the lyric: “I just saw the lightning strike.”

So, yes, it apparently is a thing now.

Miley Cyrus Announces New Single ‘Used to Be Young’: ‘This Song Is Dedicated to My Loyal Fans’

As “Flowers” continues to hang around the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 half a year after its initial release, Miley Cyrus is readying a brand new single to continue her “endless summer vacation.” On Thursday (Aug. 17), Cyrus announced that her latest single, “Used to Be Young,” is set for an Aug. 25 release.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer shared the news via Instagram, where she also revealed some more exciting plans with her 213 million followers. “In celebration of my new single release Endless Summer Vacation (backyard sessions) continues. Aug 24 @ 10pm EDT on ABC,” she wrote in a caption for a mysterious promotional clip. “This time with a retrospective interview sharing stories about the first 30 years of my life in honor of [“Used To Be Young”]. This song is dedicated to my loyal fans. I love YOU for loving every version of ME.”

The promotional video finds Cyrus sauntering toward the camera in a sparkling red leotard before switching to clips of what appears to be footage from her forthcoming Endless Summer Vacation: Continued Backyard Sessions.

Although she has been relatively quiet this year, Cyrus has been steadily teasing her new single for weeks. Earlier this month, she teased the new single’s title in the description for the Bangerz 10th Anniversary Deluxe vinyl on her official online shop. On Aug. 15, she took to her socials to post a video of a collection of posters that referenced the lyrics to some of her career-defining hits such as “Wrecking Ball,” “Flowers,” “The Climb” and “Party In the U.S.A.” She captioned the video, “I know I used to be crazy. I know I used to be fun. You say I used to be wild. I say I used to be young.”

“Used To Be Young” marks Cyrus’ first piece of new music since the release of Endless Summer Vacation back in March. That album, her eighth studio effort, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and also arrived alongside its own Backyard Sessions via Disney+. The new, reimagined Endless Summer Vacation: Continued Backyard Sessions will stream the next day on Hulu.

Jung Kook Takes Fans Behind the Scenes of ‘Seven’ Performance Practice in New Video: Watch

BTS ARMY can’t seem to get enough of Jung Kook‘s smoldering solo single “Seven.” To further satisfy the their appetites, the vocalist released a behind-the-scenes video of his performance practice for “Seven” on Thursday (Aug. 17).

The video sees Jung Kook dressed in a white Nike T-shirt, matching black sweatpants by the brand and a yellow beanie. While the K-pop star matches his backup dancers in choreography, he admitted that he was in awe of how seamless they looked in comparison to himself. “How do they pull off that vibe?” he asks after watching clips of their performance. “So groovy.”

After refining some moves, Jung Kook changed into an all-white outfit for the filming portion of the performance video. In an aside, the singer realized he was in the midst of a full-circle moment. “I’m here to shoot the performance video for my single ‘Seven.’ My favorite dancer from when I was a trainee is also here to dance with us. It feels very strange,” he told the camera. “When I saw him I was like ‘Ah!’ Brian Puspos is here. I liked him so much when I was younger. It’s so cool.”

Jung Kook and the dancers needed several takes to nail the performance video, but in the end, he revealed that it was worth it — even if he misses his BTS bandmates. “Performing by myself feels really different — and it’s really fun!” he concluded in the video. “I think I’d be so happy if I could perform with all our members after promoting by myself like this.”

“Seven” hails from Jung Kook’s upcoming solo album. The Latto-assisted track set BTS’ fandom ablaze following its release due to the sexually suggestive lyrics in its explicit version (“You wrap around me and you give me life/ And that’s why night after night/ I’ll be f–kin’ you right”). The track hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the second BTS member after Jimin to crown the chart.

Olivia Rodrigo Shares Behind-the-Scenes Look at ‘Bad Idea Right?’ & Possible ‘Guts’ Easter Eggs

Olivia Rodrigo is giving fans a glimpse at all the good ideas that went into filming the “Bad Idea Right?” music video, as well as a closer look at some of the Easter eggs they might have missed (or so it seems).

In a recent behind-the-scenes video, Rodrigo is working closely with director Petra Collins on the visual project, which aided the 20-year-old pop star’s second single from her September-slated sophomore album Guts. Some tricks of the trade used by the pair to create the video’s special effects are revealed; the slushy Rodrigo gets drenched with in the video, for instance, was filled with bits of plastic instead of ice. And the scene where a partygoer vomits in the front lawn? Turns out it was just fruit juice he was spitting out.

The behind-the-scenes video also shows clips of Rodrigo filming the opening scenes with her real-life besties, fellow pop singer-songwriter Tate McRae, former Bizaardvark costar Madison Hsu and actress Iris Apatow. The “Drivers License” singer looks on with a proud smile as her three pals master choreography set to the song’s splashy refrain.

A handful of potential Guts-related Easter eggs comes toward the end of the footage compilation, when viewers are given a tour of the bedroom set included in the final scenes of the “Bad Idea Right?” visual. The camera lingers on a few props that seem to give clues about Guts, especially as a couple of them were first featured in a clip Rodrigo posted in July teasing the album’s tracklist via hidden messages.

On a guitar case, for example, there are at least five stickers reading the word “Scared,” along with a sticker of Vincent van Gogh’s famous “Scream” painting. A row of skateboards hangs on the bedroom wall, the middle of which reads “Girl I’ve Always Been,” while the one on the far right contains an homage to Rodrigo’s Sour single “Brutal.” There’s also a poster that simply says “Stranger.” Rodrigo has already revealed the album’s full tracklist, but maybe the new clues hint at some of the songs’ lyrics?

Watch Drake Gift a Fan a Pink Hermès Birkin Bag At His L.A. Concert: ‘Drake Ain’t Cheap’

As evidenced by his recent $1 million purchase of Tupac’s crown ring, Drake loves getting a chance to hit a “Rich Flex” on the rest of us. The “Way 2 Sexy” rapper did just that his Los Angeles concert on Wednesday (Aug. 17), when he gifted a fan a pink Hermès Birkin bag.

TikTok personality Designer Ave caught the entire exchange on camera. In the clip, Drake comes out on stage holding a bag that appears to be the Birkin 30 in either Epsom or Togo leather, and proclaims “Drake ain’t cheap” as the crowed roared with cheers. The “Started From the Bottom” rapper chose to gift the Birkin to a woman in the front row, saying, “Make sure she has security on the way out.” After receiving countless bras onstage through his and 21 Savage’s It’s All a Blur Tour, it looks like Drake is in the mood to give.

Drake’s love of Birkin bags is well documented. In 2017, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s been collecting to Birkin bags to give to “the woman [he ends] up with.” Three years later, the Grammy winner displayed some of his collection, which is housed in a “two-story closet … adorned with amethyst hardware, rock crystal and seating upholstered in diamond-tufted shearling with polished nickel studs” in an Architectural Digest spread. Available in a wide variety of styles, colors, sizes and textures, new Birkin bags typically cost anywhere from $8,000 to more than $30,000.

Drake has earned 12 No. 1 titles on the Billboard 200, including 2011’s Take Care, 2016’s Views and 2022’s Honestly Nevermind. On the Billboard Hot 100, the rapper has earned 11 chart-toppers, including “God’s Plan” (11 weeks), “Nice For What” (eight weeks) and “In My Feelings” (10 weeks). He and 21 Savage share both a Billboard 200 No. 1 album, 2022’s Her Loss, and a Hot 100 No. 1 single, 2022’s “Jimmy Cooks.”
