Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending that data with sales and streaming information tracked by Luminate during the corresponding period of December 2023.

“Cake By the Ocean” appears in the third episode of teen drama series My Life With the Walter Boys, whose first season premiered Dec. 7, 2023. Its synch comes a little over eight years after the song’s initial release; the track is the Joe Jonas-fronted DNCE’s highest charting song to date, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 2016.

In December 2023, “Cake By the Ocean” earned 8.7 million official on-demand U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads, according to Luminate.

It reigns over Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain,” which bows at No. 2 after an appearance in fellow newcomer series Fellow Travelers. The Showtime historical miniseries initially premiered in October 2023, and the episode featuring “Maggot Brain,” episode seven, first aired Dec. 10 as the penultimate edition of the show.

“Maggot Brain,” featured on Funkadelic’s 1971 album of the same name, racked up 296,000 streams in December 2023.

The most featured series on the December 2023 Top TV Songs chart is The Crown, which sports three appearances from its sixth season, episodes five through 10 of which premiered Dec. 14. Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” leads the group at No. 5 (3.3 million streams, 1,000 downloads), followed by Stardust’s “Music Sounds Better With You” at No. 7 (3.2 million streams, 1,000 downloads) and Portishead’s “Glory Box” at No. 9 (2 million streams, 1,000 downloads).

Nick Cannon Reveals Whether He Has Plans for a 13th Child

Nick Cannon already has 12 kids, but he’s in no rush to make it a baker’s dozen. In a Friday (Jan. 19) interview with People, the famously fertile actor-musician revealed that he’s slowing down his family-expansion efforts for the foreseeable future.

“I’m chilling right now,” he told the publication. “There’s no plans on the horizon as of yet.”

The 43-year-old Masked Singer host welcomed his youngest child, Halo Marie, with model Alyssa Scott in December 2022. The little girl was Cannon’s fifth child in the span of five months, following Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi in July 2022, Onyx Ice with LaNisha Cole and Rise Messiah with Brittany Bell in September 2022, and Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa in November 2022.

Cannon is also dad to twins Moroccan and Monroe, whom he shares with superstar ex-wife Mariah Carey; Golden Sagon and Powerful Queen, his son and daughter with Bell; twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir with De La Rosa; and Zen, his first child with Scott. The little boy passed away from brain cancer in December 2021.

“It’s so funny — everybody’s always trying to get me to have more kids,” he added. “It’s like, 12 ain’t enough?”

The Drumline star also addressed the topic in a November interview with Men’s Health, in which he said that he was simply “trying to be the best father and best provider” he could “possibly be.”

“People even often ask, ‘Are you gonna have more? You gonna stop?’” he added. “I’m like, those are questions that I don’t really even sit around and think about.”

Snoop Dogg Claims OnlyFans Said He Could Make $100 Million For Showing His Kibble and Bits

Snoop Dogg‘s list of endorsements and product extension stretch from his recent Goon With the Spoon cookbook to deals hawking Beyond Meat, Skechers, Corona, SodaStream and his Snoop Doggie Doggs line of pet products.

But in an appearance earlier this week on the debut episode of comedian/actor Slink Johnson’s “Wake & Bake With Double S Express,” the Doggfather pulled up to smoke (including showing off a giant joint shaped like the “Smoke Weed Every Day” MC’s head), chat and laugh it up with the host and co-star of the 2023 White Men Can’t Jump reboot. During their convo, Snoop revealed that OnlyFans reached out to him saying he could probably pull down a cool $100 million to show off his private parts.

And while Snoop is always down to sign a lucrative deal, he said his wife of 27 years and manager, Shante Broadus, would never be okay with him pulling his “thang out.”

“They got at me when one of them little girls made like $20 million on there,” Snoop said of an reach out from the online subscription content service frequently used by sex workers and B- and C-list stars looking to cash in on NSFW content. “They were like, ‘OnlyFans wants you to come on there, Snoop. You could do about $100 million. All you gotta do is pull that thang out.”

And as much as he enjoys product extensions, Snoop, 52, said it would never happen. “I’m like, ‘I got a Black wife, n—a. Ain’t no way in the world she gonna allow me to go on there and pull that thang out for no amount of money,’” he said of the expected thumbs down from his high school sweetheart and mother of three of his children.

At press time a spokesperson for OnlyFans had not returned Billboard‘s request for comment on the alleged offer.

The legendarily lean, mean and lanky rapper also bragged that he’s been hitting the gym recently and has been building muscles for the first time in his life and, not for nothing, he said Shante is definitely into that.

Snoop might get to show off his newly jacked physique this summer with his gig as a correspondent for NBC’s coverage of the Paris Olympics. “I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness,” Snoop said in a statement earlier this month. “We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked. Let’s elevate, celebrate, and make these games unforgettable, smoke the competition, and may the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, ya dig?”

Brush With Fame: Cody Johnson’s ‘The Painter’ Hits Country Airplay Top 10

Cody Johnson rolls up his third top 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “The Painter” climbs from No. 11 to No. 8 on the ranking dated Jan. 27.

In the Jan. 12-18 tracking week, the song increased by 10% to 20.7 million audience impressions, according to Luminate.

Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins and Ryan Larkins co-wrote the song, which Trent Willmon produced. It’s the lead single from Johnson’s LP Leather, which arrived on Top Country Albums at its No. 5 peak in November, becoming his fifth top 10. On the Jan. 20-dated list, Leather placed at No. 20 (10,000 equivalent album units, up 2%).

Johnson, from Sebastopol, Texas, scores his third Country Airplay top 10 in succession. “The Painter” follows “Human,” which hit No. 8 last June, and “‘Til You Can’t,” which ruled for two frames starting in March 2022. He charted his first of 11 entries with “With You I Am,” which reached No. 40 in May 2017.

Johnson has two additional tracks on Country Airplay. His duet with Ian Munsick, “Long Live Cowgirls,” ranks at No. 56 and “Dirt Cheap” enters at No. 58 (600,000, up 42%).

Six-Alarm ‘Fire’

Nate Smith’s “World on Fire” leads Country Airplay for a sixth total and consecutive week (35.5 million, down 1%). It became his second straight career-opening No. 1, following “Whiskey on You,” which dominated for two weeks last February.

“World on Fire” marks the first title to top Country Airplay for at least six weeks since Morgan Wallen’s crossover smash “Last Night” reigned for eight weeks beginning last May. The latter went on to lead the 2023 Country Airplay Songs recap, as well as the year-end all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100 Songs survey.

Mariska Hargitay Recalls Getting Her New Cat & Naming Karma in Taylor Swift’s Honor

Mariska Hargitay loves her Karma. While celebrating the recent premiere of the 25th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on TODAY With Hoda & Jenna Thursday (Jan. 18), the actress opened up about adopting her new cat and naming the feline after a Taylor Swift song.

“I love my cat,” the Emmy winner gushed. “I was not a cat person, I’ll be honest. And I love lions — I see myself as a lion — and I saw this cat and I went crazy for it.”

Hargitay made headlines in November when she revealed that her new kitty was named Karma, a tribute to Swift’s song of the same name featuring the lyric “karma is a cat purring in my lap ’cause it loves me.” The gesture was especially sweet given that the pop star named one of her own cats Olivia Benson after the actress’ SVU character years prior.

“Are you serious?!!!!” Swift commented at the time. “Nothing has ever come more full circle ⭕️ LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! ?”

According to Hargitay, her family didn’t even consider any other name for their new addition. “Her name was Karma from minute one, that was her name,” she told hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager before quoting Swift’s lyrics, “Karma is a cat! Me and Karma vibe like that.”

Beyond their interconnected cat names, Hargitay and Swift go way back. In 2015, the 12-time Grammy winner invited the Jocks actress to appear alongside Ellen Pompeo — whose Grey’s Anatomy character Meredith Grey inspired the name of Swift’s first cat — in the “Bad Blood” music video. In June of that year, Hargitay walked the catwalk alongside Swift as a guest at the 1989 World Tour.

Watch Hargitay open up about Karma below.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’ Hits No. 1 on Adult Contemporary Chart

Surely continuing to spark warm thoughts amid winter, Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” climbs to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, dated Jan. 27.

The song, released on Republic Records, becomes Swift’s ninth AC leader, extending her mark for the most among all acts over the 2000s, ‘10s and ‘20s. In that span, Adele, Michel Bublé and Josh Groban rank second with six No. 1s each.

Meanwhile, “Cruel Summer” halts the record 37-week No. 1 run on Adult Contemporary of Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers.”

Here’s a recap of Swift’s nine Adult Contemporary No. 1s:

  • “Cruel Summer,” one week to date at No. 1, Jan. 27, 2024
  • “Anti-Hero,” three weeks, beginning March 25, 2023
  • “Delicate,” 10, Sept. 15, 2018
  • “Style,” two, July 11, 2015
  • “Blank Space,” four, Feb. 21, 2015
  • “Shake It Off,” nine, Nov. 22, 2014
  • “Mine,” one week, Dec. 11, 2010
  • “You Belong With Me,” 14, Oct. 31, 2009
  • “Love Story,” six, June 6, 2009

“Cruel Summer” was originally released on Swift’s 2019 album Lover. Republic began promoting the song as a single last June, after Swift began performing it on her The Eras Tour, her first in which she’s been able to spotlight songs from Lover, which was released shortly before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The song also adds a new milestone atop the Adult Pop Airplay chart, where it logs a 20th week at No. 1, becoming just the fourth hit to have reigned for at least that long since the survey began in Billboard’s pages in March 1996. “Cruel Summer” trails only the commands of Santana’s “Smooth,” featuring Rob Thomas (25 weeks, 1999-2000), and The Calling’s “Wherever You Will Go” (23 weeks, 2001-02) and ties the rule of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” in 2020.

Among other chart honors for “Cruel Summer,” it became the landmark 10th of Swift’s 11 career No. 1s on the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100, reigning for four weeks, and her record-breaking 12th No. 1, and her longest-leading (10 weeks), on Pop Airplay.

Plus, “Cruel Summer” is Swift’s sixth song to triple up with No. 1 ranks on Adult Contemporary, Adult Pop Airplay and Pop Airplay, joining “Anti-Hero,” “Delicate,” “Style,” “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off.” She now solely boasts the most such leaders, one-upping Adele’s five at each of the three formats (“Rolling in the Deep,” “Set Fire to the Rain,” “Hello,” “Send My Love [To Your Lover]” and “Easy on Me,” in 2011-22).

As for yet one more Swift chart feat this week, her “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” jumps 11-8 on Adult Pop Airplay. It becomes her record-extending 30th top 10 on the tally, further distancing herself from Maroon 5, second with 27, and P!nk (20).

All charts dated Jan. 27 will update on Billboard.com Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Coco Jones Blows Sherri Shepherd’s Mind With a Killer Mariah Carey Impression

“Caliber” singer Coco Jones stopped by Sherri Shepherd’s syndicated show on Friday (Jan. 19) to talk about her 2024 Grammy nominations, her desire to keep holding up the R&B genre, and most importantly, to share a flawless, funny Mariah Carey impersonation.

Aware that Jones has gone viral for her impersonation skills, Shepherd cued up the “Celebrity Spin” game to test Coco’s skills at nailing a famous voice in a wacky scenario. Britney Spears ordering a latte? Nailed it. Rihanna on a roller coaster? “Oh hey now, hey now. Stop de ride, stop de ride,” Jones sang in RihRih’s signature island-soaked timbre.

Jones definitely saved the best for last, though. Asked to conjure Mariah on the phone with Shepherd’s in-house turntablist, DJ Suss One, Jones gathered her thoughts and busted out, “Hey Mr. DJ, are you gonna play my favorite song,” in a perfect Carey coo, topped by a signature sky-high MC whistle note.

The singer who is nominated for five Grammy Awards — including best R&B performance, best R&B song, best R&B album, best traditional R&B performance and best new artist — told Shepherd the very first person she called to celebrate the good news was, of course, her mom. “I called my mama when I landed,” Jones said. “My mom was the team before the team. She was the one knocking on doors on behalf of her little 9-year-old just to beg somebody to listen, so I want he to see that her sacrifice has paid off.”

The Bel-Air star also spilled on what’s next for her character Hilary Banks, promising that she will continue to “stir the pot” and “surprise you guys” in season three of Peacock’s reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The 26-year-old singer also revealed that she’s hoping to have her full-length debut album out this summer. To date, Jones has released a handful of EPs, including 2022’s What I Didn’t Tell You, which featured her only Billboard Hot 100-charting single to date “ICU,” which peaked at No. 62.

Green Day Throws a ’90s House Party in New Video for Queer-Affirming Song ‘Bobby Sox’

Nostalgia for the ’90s can be found all throughout today’s music, but when Green Day leans into penning a ’90s-style punk track, it just hits different.

On Friday (Jan. 19), the legendary rock trio shared the music video for their new song “Bobby Sox.” The single unveiled off of their just-released album Saviors, “Bobby Sox” sees the band leaning into its fuzzed-out punk sound with a rocked-out love song in which frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sings to prospective partners — both male and female — in a nod to his bisexuality.

In the grainy new video, Green Day takes over a backyard to throw a daylight rager, as members of the diverse crowd make out, get tattoos, jump off roofs and yes, sing along to the band’s performance of its new track. “Do you wanna be my girlfriend?” Armstrong wails in the final chorus. “Do you wanna be my boyfriend?”

In a statement released with the video, Armstrong said that the group wanted to capture the feeling of their early career with a new song, while also making a song that spoke to queer audiences as well. “‘Bobby Sox’ is one of my favorite songs on the album, it’s the ‘Nineties’90s song that we never wrote,” he said. “It started out being a song I wrote for my wife, but as it materialized, I wanted to switch it up and added, ‘Do you wanna be my boyfriend?’ on top of ‘Do you wanna be my girlfriend’ … So the song becomes a kind of universal anthem.”

Armstrong also spoke about the track in a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, saying that it felt “liberating” to sing about someone wanting to be his boyfriend. “It became more of a queer singalong,” he said.

Check out the video for Green Day’s “Bobby Sox” below:
