The groovy track features a familiar sample implementing the drums from Nina Sky‘s 2004 hit “Move Ya Body,” which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“We don’t gotta take it slow/ I’ma hit the gas if you’re ready to go/ I wanna speed it, breathe into your clothes/ The way you touch my neck got me ready to fold,” she sings.

Kehlani caught up with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Thursday where she detailed her love for “Move Ya Body” when it came to sampling and how she wanted to create more cheerful music rather than the sorrowful tunes her fans cling to.

“Because those drums, when they drop, it’s so recognizable and everybody just loses it. It’s one of those things where it drops and everybody goes, ‘Woo,’ and bends their knees and puts their hands on their knees,” she explained.

“Coming out of this pandemic to global tragedy to global tragedy to global tragedy, I was like I’m not really in a space to make something that feels super jarring or super sad. I’m very outspoken about these things, but I want my art to provide some kind of life and fun. I wanna hear this outside and I wanna feel good.”

Kehlani still hasn’t revealed the title or release date of their anticipated LP. Her last LP Blue Water Road peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 8 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

ILLIT

The South Korean group makes its first showing on Billboard’s charts with its debut four-track EP Super Real Me and single “Magnetic.” The set, released March 25 on BELIFT LAB (a sublabel of HYBE Corporation), debuts at No. 10 on the World Albums chart and No. 15 on Heatseekers Albums with 4,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 28, according to Luminate.

The EP’s breakout single “Magnetic” also arrives at No. 33 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 63 on the Billboard Global 200; it drew 21.7 million official streams worldwide. TikTok has been a contributing factor in the song’s growth, as a portion of it has soundtracked over 170,000 clips on the platform, where the group boasts 1.4 million followers. The song is expected to vault further on next week’s, April 13-dated charts.

ILLIT was formed through the Korean JTBC reality show R U Next? and comprises members Iroha, Minju, Moka, Wonhee and Yunah.

Love Fame Tragedy

Love Fame Tragedy nets its first entry on Billboard’s charts, as “Don’t You Want To Sleep With Someone Normal?” debuts at No. 39 on Alternative Airplay (up 24% in plays).

The act is a solo side project of Wombats frontman Matthew Murphy. The band, from Liverpool, has maintained a steady presence on Billboard’s charts since 2008, with five charting songs on Alternative Airplay and two charting albums (of its five total) on the Billboard 200: Glitterbug (No. 91 peak in 2015) and Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life (No. 190, 2018).

“Normal?” is from Love Fame Tragedy’s second album, Life Is a Killer, released March 29 on Bright Antenna Records. The band released its first collection, Wherever I Go, I Want To Leave, in 2020.

Mark Ambor

Mark Ambor is officially a Billboard-charting hitmaker, thanks to his breakthrough viral song “Belong Together.” Released Feb. 16, the song debuts at No. 167 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart with 8.2 million streams earned outside the U.S. The song also starts at No. 88 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.

Before releasing the song, Ambor had been teasing it for weeks on TikTok, where two versions have gone viral. Its original audio has soundtracked over 20,000 clips, while a sped-up mix has been used in over 120,000 videos. Ambor himself boasts nearly a million followers on the platform.

Ambor released his debut seven-track album Hello World in 2022, followed by other songs, including another viral hit, “Good To Be” (118,000 clips on TikTok). Ambor has a run of European tour stops lined up in April.

Yahir Saldivar

The Mexican singer is now a Billboard-charting artist, thanks to his breakthrough viral hit “SC-9.” The song, released Feb. 1 on Cash On Beat/H.D.P., debuted at No. 45 on the March 23-dated Hot Latin Songs chart and holds at its No. 23 high on the latest list with 3.7 million U.S. streams (a 14% gain from the previous week). The song also stands at No. 4 on Latin Digital Song Sales after reaching No. 1 a week earlier, where it became Saldivar’s first career Billboard leader. Plus, Saldivar ranks at No. 38 on the Emerging Artists chart.

The recent gains for “SC-9” can partly be attributed to TikTok, where Saldivar boasts over 500,000 followers. The song has been used in over 50,000 videos on the platform.

Loe Shimmy

The emerging rapper, from Pompano Beach, Fla., reaches Billboard’s charts for the first time thanks to his new album, Zombieland 2. Released March 22 on NETL/Open Shift Records, the set debuts at No. 13 on Heatseekers Albums (which ranks the most popular albums each week by new or developing acts) with 4,000 equivalent album units earned. It features collaborations with fellow Billboard-charting artists Luh Tyler and Veeze, plus rappers BLP Kosher and ffawty.

Loe Shimmy has been releasing music on streaming services since 2020. Since then, he’s dropped two additional full-lengths – Zuper PowerZ in 2021 and Z end in 2022 – along with his EPs Zombie Land and World WAR Z (both in 2020). He has also released songs with Kodak Black, Bossman Dlow and Danny Towers, among others.

Ahadadream & Priya Ragu

Both artists land their first Billboard chart hits, thanks to their new collaboration with Skrillex, “TAKA.” Released March 22 via Major Recordings/FFRR, the track debuts at No. 37 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with 512,000 U.S. streams.

British-Pakistani electronic/house DJ Ahadadream (real name Ahad Elley) has been releasing music for nearly a decade, including four EPs: Movements, Shade, 3:33 and Homecoming. Outside of Skrillex, he has also collaborated with Ellie Goulding, ELIZA, and Tommy Genesis. “TAKA” initially rose to prominence last September, when he previewed the track during his debut Boiler Room set (alongside Skrillex). He has a run of North American and European tour dates lined up through August, including a set at The Do Lab stage at Coachella this month.

Priya Ragu released her debut studio album Santhosam, on Warner Records U.K., following the mixtape damnshestamil in 2021 (also via Warner U.K.) The Tamil-Swiss singer-songwriter, who has also released music with Jungle and Oddisee, has a string of European and Australian tour dates scheduled through May.

As for Skrillex, “Taka” earns the EDM star his 61st entry on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, tying The Chainsmokers for the fourth-most in the chart’s decade-long-plus history, after David Guetta (86), Marshmello (68) and Kygo (63).

Keith Nieto

The Mexican singer-songwriter has already appeared on Billboard’s charts as saxophonist for the group La Maquinaria Norteña, but he earns his first career entry as a soloist with “Contigo Sí.” The song, on Azteca Records/Fonovisa/UMLE, debuts at No. 35 on Regional Mexican Airplay, with a 110% gain in radio audience impressions. The song is on Nieto’s debut solo six-track EP Saxy, released Feb. 28.

La Maquinaria Norteña has charted 32 songs on Regional Mexican Airplay, including 14 top 10s and three No. 1s: “50 y Cincuenta” (in 2022), “Eres Ese Algo” and “Te Quiero Ver” (both 2023). The group has also logged 10 albums on Top Latin Albums, including three No. 1s: El Fenomeno (2014), Ya Dime Adios (2015) and Generacion Maquinaria Est. 2006 (2016). Nieto, who has written and produced many of the band’s hits, is joined in the group by his brothers Tony and Rory Nieto, as well as Iván Gutiérrez and Sergio Soto.

Rosemarie

The R&B singer-songwriter claims her first Billboard chart hit, thanks to her collaboration with Roddy Ricch, “Is it Real?” Released in November on her 12-track project Rock Paper Scissors: Recut (via Bird Vision/Interscope Records), the song opens at No. 39 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay with a 4% gain in spins at the format.

Rosemarie released her debut full-length TBD: To Be Determined in 2019 and dropped her nine-track set Sinnergy in 2021. Outside of Roddy Ricch, she has collaborated with Juvenile and Kalan.FrFr.

ÁSDÍS

The Icelandic singer hits Billboard’s charts for the first time thanks to her featured appearance on Seven Lions and Illenium’s “Not Even Love.” Released March 22 on Casablanca/Republic, the track debuts at No. 14 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with 1 million U.S. streams.

ÁSDÍS, based in Berlin, has been releasing music since 2020. She has collaborated with fellow Icelandic singer Daði Freyr on “Feel the Love,” and co-wrote Sophie Simmons’ 2021 release “Love Turns Lonely” (which deadmau5 produced).

Here’s Why Playboi Carti’s Scene in Camila Cabello’s ‘I Luv It’ Music Video Almost Didn’t Happen

Fans are luv-ing Playboi Carti’s gas station scene in collaborator Camila Cabello’s “I Luv It” music video, but it almost didn’t happen.

Cabello sat down for an interview with Power 106 Los Angeles’ Brown Bag Mornings crew, where she revealed that “something happened with [Carti’s] plane,” which nearly caused him to miss the Nicolas Mendez-directed video shoot entirely. “He got there after the music video was actually wrapped, so we had to find a place to film his part of the video and we ended up paying the guy that worked at the gas station to let it stay open for us,” the singer recalled. “He got there and my mom had the video screen and she was low-key directing, and he was like, ‘Your mom has the iPad screen, that’s so hard.’ He was so sweet, my mom was, like, in love with him.”

Prior to its release last month, Cabello had been teasing snippets of “I Luv It,” which samples Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade” and finds her interpolating Rihanna. She also reflected on exploring the rare human connection she has to select individuals, which makes her feel like she’s in “outer space,” while realizing that pace isn’t sustainable and she’ll eventually get burned out. “Certain things in our human realm do make me feel like I’m in outer space, and the very rare few times where I’ve had incredible chemistry with someone is one of them,” she previously said in a statement about the track’s inspiration. “Part of that cocktail is also the emotional drama between you and that person, and the chaos and butterflies and nerves and passion. It’s unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, I LUV IT.”

Halsey & Avan Jogia Make Their Red Carpet Debut as a Couple: See Photo

Halsey and Avan Jogia made their red carpet debut Tuesday night, turning heads in matching outfits at the premiere of Dev Patel’s Monkey Man.

The “Closer” singer looked stunning in a creamy champagne-hued cocktail dress, her black hair slicked back and tattoos on display. The Victorious alum sported a button-up that was the same shade as his counterpart’s gown, complemented with a black pin-stripe suit.

The outing comes about seven months after the couple was first spotted together, packing on the PDA at the Cara Hotel in Los Angeles. It was a moment that sent the internet into an immediate tailspin.

In October, Halsey and Jogia made their relationship Instagram official, with the About-Face Beauty founder sharing snaps with the actor showing off their glamorous, leathery looks. Later that month, they celebrated Halloween as a couple, with the singer going as a sea monstress and the Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City star dressing up as a sailor.

Prior to dating Jogia, Halsey split from her estranged husband Alev Aydin — with whom she shares a young son named Ender — in April 2023. Jogia was previously linked to Australian actress Cleopatra Coleman.

In a conversation with Billboard last year, Sexyy Red gushed about having the opportunity to work with Minaj on “Pound Town 2.”

“It was such a good experience! She’s a sweet person, and you can really tell she’s really serious about her music,” she said. “She gave me some of the best advice that I know I’ll always come back to. I really appreciate her for being supportive and kind.”

“FTCU” debuted at No. 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December before surging up the chart to reach a peak of No. 15. The Waka Flocka Flame-sampling track is one of two Pink Friday 2 songs still on the Hot 100 where it currently sits at No. 82.

Sexyy Red is making noise of her own on the charts as her latest Tay Keith-produced single “Get It Sexyy” is slotted in at No. 28 on this week’s Hot 100, marking her highest-charting solo track to date.

As for Nicki Minaj, she’s still on the road for the Pink Friday 2 World Tour, which returns home to the Big Apple with a stop in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Thursday night (April 4).

Dua Lipa Announces New Single ‘Illusion’ & Shares Snippet Ahead of ‘Radical Optimism’: Listen

Your eyes are not deceiving you: Dua Lipa really is dropping her next single soon, although it is titled “Illusion.”

The pop star shared the news in a post via X on Thursday (April 4), sharing a photo of the project’s artwork — which features her looking luminous in a white bikini top and shawl — as well as a teaser video. In the clip, she wears the same outfit as she dances along to a snippet of the pulsing, dance-floor-ready track.

“I could do this dance all night,” she sings in the sneak peek. “Ooh, what you doing? Don’t know who you think that you’re confusing.”

“ILLUSION 11TH APRIL ~ YOU READY?,” Dua captioned the post with three water-droplet emojis.

When it drops, “Illusion” will become the third single the British artist has dropped ahead of her upcoming third studio album Radical Optimism, following “Houdini” and “Training Season.” The former debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the latter entered the chart at No. 27.

Trending on Billboard

Dua first announced Radical Optimism in March, simultaneously sharing its cover and tracklist. “Illusion” is the seventh title on the May 3-slated record, in between “French Exit” and “Falling Forever.”

One day prior to her latest news, Dua posted a reel of behind-the-scenes footage from her time working on the album, including bits and pieces of the upcoming music. “It’s the beauty of the chaos and trying to stay calm through it,” she said in a voice-over in the video. “Listening over and over and feeling like, ‘How do I want to tell this story?’”

“I always go for the most upbeat ones to introduce people to the record,” she added. “I can just keep on dancing and keep people dancing. “We’re trying to create a world in a different way, and sonically it was about experimenting. Thematically, it was always about resilience.”

Former Bad Boy Rapper G. Dep Released from Prison: See the Clips

Rapper Travell “G. Dep” Coleman was officially released from prison on Thursday (April 4).

In a series of posts to his Instagram on Thursday, G. Dep fully documented his release from Fishkill Correctional Facility in Upstate New York. Throughout the videos, the rapper can be seen exiting the facility, riding in a car back to New York City, and enjoying his first meal as a free person in nearly 14 years at an IHOP. “I’m free at last,” he says in his video at the restaurant.

Late last year, after serving 13 years of a 15-years-to-life sentence, the former Bad Boy signee was among 16 individuals granted clemency by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. In 2010, Coleman walked into Harlem’s 25th Precinct and confessed to a 17-year-old cold murder case. Back in 1993, he shot 32-year-old John Henkel in a botched robbery and fled the scene, tossing the murder weapon into the East River. After learning that Henkel passed away, Coleman said the murder weighed heavily on his conscience.

In a 2010 interview with the New York Post, Coleman claimed that he had struggled with drug addiction, which played a factor in his decision to come forward. “That’s just the life I was living back then,” he said. “I started to wonder if all the bad things that happened to me in my life were karma for what I did … you start to think, ‘My happiness is because of someone else’s sadness.’ I thought that if I turned myself in, it might give me closure.”

Coleman signed to Bad Boy in 1999, releasing his solo debut Child of the Ghetto two years later. He had a hit in “Special Delivery,” which reached number three on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart and was featured on “Let’s Get It” alongside labelmate Black Rob and Bad Boy founder Puff Daddy.

Maggie Rogers Covers Tate McRae’s ‘Greedy’ for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge

Maggie Rogers got “Greedy” this week with her flawless cover of Tate McRae‘s hit single, which she performed at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.

Rogers put her characteristically folksy spin on the pop hit, stripping down the verse before belting the powerful chorus: “I would want myself/ Baby, please believe me/ I’ll put you through hell/ Just to know me.”

The Canadian singer’s smash single surpassed a billion plays on Spotify this week, making it McRae’s second song to do so, following her 2020 hit “You Broke Me First.” It’s also McRae’s first top 10 on the all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, reaching a No. 7 high to date. It topped the Billboard Global 200 chart, the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 tallies.

“I don’t think people really expected me to release a song like this. I didn’t expect me to release it. I was deciding for forever which song I wanted to come back from a 10-month break. I think also people weren’t expecting me to dance like I did in the music video, and I think it was just a little shocking,” she previously told Billboard of the track. “It also feels like a switch-up in my personality and I think my fans were ready to see a more confident bada– side of me. It feels very exciting starting the album with that kind of energy going into it.”

The milestone caps off a big month for McRae, who won artist of the year and single of the year, for “Greedy,” at the 2024 Juno Awards, though she didn’t attend. McRae had been nominated for nine awards in previous years, but this year marks her first Juno wins, following a breakthrough year in 2023 and the chart success of her sophomore album Think Later. Future, Metro Boomin & Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Like That’ Earns Best Streaming Week for a Hip-Hop Hit Since 2021

Future, Metro Boomin and Kendrick Lamar reign on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart dated April 6 with “Like That,” which blasts in at No. 1. In the March 22-28 tracking week (the song’s first, after premiering March 22), “Like That” earned 59.6 million official U.S. streams, according to Luminate.

It’s the biggest week for any song in the U.S. in 2024 and the most streams in a single week since the second week of release for Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (as reflected on the Feb. 4, 2023, chart), which accrued 59.8 million listens.

As “Flowers” opened with 52.6 million streams (Jan. 28, 2023), “Like That” boasts the biggest opening week for a track since Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” which began with 59.7 million streams (Nov. 5, 2022).

Among R&B/hip-hop titles (defined as those that have hit Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart), “Like That” sports the most weekly streams since Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring current leader Future and Young Thug, soared in with 67.3 million (Sept. 18, 2021).

“Like That” is Future’s third Streaming Songs No. 1, following “Way 2 Sexy” and his own “Wait for U,” featuring Drake and Tems (2022).

Metro Boomin earns his first Streaming Songs ruler (as a billed recording artist), eclipsing a pair of No. 2 peaks with “Runnin,” a co-bill with 21 Savage (2020), and “Creepin’,” a triple bill alongside The Weeknd and 21 Savage (2023).

Lamar nabs his fourth Streaming Songs No. 1, following “Humble.” (2017), Lil Wayne’s “Mona Lisa,” on which he’s featured (2018), and “N95” (2022).

“Like That” leads an onslaught of titles from Future and Metro Boomin’s new collaborative album We Don’t Trust You on Streaming Songs — 17 in total, the LP’s entire tracklist. That includes five of the chart’s top six, with “Like That” followed directly by “Type Shit,” by Future, Metro Boomin, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, at No. 2 (34.9 million streams). The only non-Future and -Metro Boomin song in the top six: Hozier’s “Too Sweet,” which debuts at No. 3 via 28.9 million streams.

Concurrently, as previously reported, “Like That” debuts at No. 1 on the multimetric Billboard Hot 100 with 5.6 million radio audience impressions and 9,000 downloads in addition to its streams. We Don’t Trust You bounds in atop the Billboard 200 with 251,000 equivalent album units earned.

Paul McCartney Praises Beyoncé’s ‘Magnificent Version’ of ‘Blackbird’: ‘Makes Me Very Proud’

It might be time to refer to the Beatles as the Bey-tles from here on out! On Thursday (April 4), Sir Paul McCartney took to his Instagram page to share a lengthy message lauding Beyoncé‘s cover of The Fab Four’s “Blackbird,” which appears on her brand new Cowboy Carter album.

“I am so happy with @beyonce’s version of my song ‘Blackbird,” he wrote in a caption of a carousel comprised of a photo of the two artists and the standard Cowboy Carter artwork. “I think she does a magnificent version of it and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place. I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it!”

“Blackbird,” stylized as “Blackbiird” on Beyoncé’s new LP, reimagines the acoustic original with additional bass, orchestral flourishes and lush harmonies (and lead vocals on the final verse) from a quartet of ascendant Black women in country music, including Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts, Brittney Spencer and Tiera Kennedy.

Trending on Billboard

McCartney spoke about the civil rights bent he alluded in Paul McCartney: Many Years from Now, a 1997 Barry Miles-penned biography of the Beatles. In the book, McCartney explains that “I had in mind a [Black] woman, rather than a bird. Those were the days of the civil rights movement, which all of us cared passionately about, so this was really a song from me to a [Black] woman, experiencing these problems in the States: ‘Let me encourage you to keep trying, to keep your faith; there is hope.’”

McCartney — whose original master recording is used in Beyoncé’s version, according to Variety — also revealed that he had the chance to speak with the pop icon about her take on “Blackbird.”

“I spoke to her on FaceTime and she thanked me for writing it and letting her do it,” wrote McCartney, who attended Beyoncé’s record-breaking Renaissance World Tour last year. “I told her the pleasure was all mine and I thought she had done a killer version of the song. When I saw the footage on the television in the early 60s of the black girls being turned away from school, I found it shocking and I can’t believe that still in these days there are places where this kind of thing is happening right now. Anything my song and Beyoncé’s fabulous version can do to ease racial tension would be a great thing and makes me very proud.”

“Blackbiird,” the second track on Bey’s already-record-breaking Cowboy Carter, is one of two covers on the LP. Elsewhere on the sprawling 27-tack album, Beyoncé takes on Dolly Parton’s seminal “Jolene,” rewriting the song to be a more seamless fit for a “Creole banjee b–ch from Lousianne.”

In 2022, with Renaissance lead single “Break My Soul” entering the Billboard Hot 100‘s top 10 for the first time, Beyoncé became the first woman in Billboard history to ever tally at least 20 top 10 hits as soloist and 10 or more top 10s as a member of a group. The only other two artists to accomplish such a feat? None other than Michael Jackson and McCartney.

The Beatles’ original version of “Blackbird” appeared on their eponymous 1968 LP — commonly referred to as The White Album — which spent nine weeks atop the Billboard 200. Recently, Emmy-winning documentarian Ken Burns compared Cowboy Carter to The White Album, citing both records’ extensive exploration of different musical genres.

Check out Sir Paul’s sweet Instagram message about Beyoncé’s “Blackbiird” below.
