KALEO Announces Additional Dates for Summer Payback Tour

KALEO is adding additional dates to the group’s summer itinerary, announcing new dates for the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Icelandic rockers’ North American Payback Tour.

KALEO will begin headlining amphitheaters across the continent through the fall, kicking off at Hayden Homes Amphitheatre in Bend, Ore., on Aug. 25. The upcoming run will feature support from Chance Peña, Hembree and Larkin Poe on select dates.

Ticket presales for the newly announced dates begin Tuesday (April 30) at 10 a.m. local time, with general on-sale starting Friday (May 3) at 10 a.m. local time at officialkaleo.com.

Last week, KALEO was announced as direct support for The Rolling Stones show at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 11, as part of their 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour. Then, KALEO will embark on a previously announced run of summer headlining dates starting at Dillon Amphitheatre in Dillon, Colo., on June 14, followed by a sold-out performance at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. Support for the early summer trek — which is set to visit major markets on the West Coast, wrapping up in Carnation, Wash., at Remlinger Farms on June 26 — includes Matt Maeson, Vincent Lima, Neal Francis and Reignwolf on select dates.

Last month, KALEO returned with the new single “Lonely Cowboy,” which is available on all streaming platforms and is joined by a stunning performance video shot inside Rome’s historic Colosseum. The stand-alone track notably marks the group’s first new original music in three years.

“Lonely Cowboy” hinges on a softly plucked acoustic guitar and sparse orchestration, while gruff, yet warm vocals remain the guiding force. “Guess it’s time to say goodbye to the rider of the night,” sings vocalist, guitarist, pianist, songwriter and producer JJ Julius Son as he paints a vivid picture underscored by a proud and intentional homage to Italian film composer Ennio Morricone.

JJ commented on the song, sharing, “It feels like a Spaghetti Western, and I love those vibes. My friends and family have always encouraged me to put it out, but now was the right time. It’s an important one for me.”

The Colosseum show took place in front of 250 of the group’s biggest fans at the Archeological Park of the Colosseum in Rome, joining the ranks of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, The Cure, Elton John and Paul McCartney as the only artists to ever perform an electric concert in front of the iconic monument. Presented by VERTIGO LIVE, a leading producer of cinematic live experiences, the momentous night was captured on film and will be released as KALEO: Viva Roma in the Shadow of the Colosseum later this summer. Rapsody Says to ‘Get the F— Outta Here’ With Any ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ Slander After J. Cole’s Kendrick Lamar Diss Track

During an appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast, Rapsody was asked her feelings about J. Cole apologizing to fans and Kendrick Lamar after dropping his “7 Minute Drill” diss record from his recent mixtape Might Delete Later. On the track, Cole took shots at Lamar’s discography, most notably To Pimp a Butterfly, calling the Compton rapper’s third solo effort boring, rapping, “Your second sh– put n—as to sleep, but they gassed it.”

Rapsody — who, like Cole, is from North Carolina and was featured on Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly track “Complexion (A Zulu Love)” — was reluctant to give her opinion, but ultimately had this to say when asked about the apology.

“I try not to speak on these things,” she began. “I hold my thoughts to myself. But, aye, he’s a man, he made his decision. But I’m just speaking from me, if I’m in that position? I love the spirit of what this is or the sport of it. And if it’s me, I’m goin’, ‘Homie or not, let’s go.’ You know, he approached it how he approached it.”

On the subject of To Pimp a Butterfly suddenly being considered mid, she wasn’t buying into that narrative.

“I thought about that when Cole made his apology,” she said. “And when he did it, I would never approach his discography. But at the art of war … war is war. But it’s funny to see the landscape of sheep to me. And it’s like, because we’re in this battle and he says it’s not good, everybody is like, ‘Yeah, we don’t think it’s that good’? Get the f— outta here.”

Travis Kelce Re-Signs With the Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce is staying in Kansas City!

The 34-year-old tight end reached a two-year extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that will make Kelce the highest-paid tight end in the league, according to the NFL. Kelce is now under contract through the 2027 season and the deal adds $34.25 million to the two years remaining on his old deal, according to reports.

In a joint post, the Chiefs and Kelce celebrated the signing with photos of Kelce holding his Super Bowl trophies with the team, and the caption reads: “We signed the greatest tight end ever to a new contract.”

It’s gearing up to be a busy few years for Kelce, who was also announced as the host of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a spinoff of the popular Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? game show. “I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” Kelce said in a press statement. “The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen will definitely be entertaining. I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up.”

The Prime Video show will feature contestants using celebrities to help with 11 elementary-school-level questions, with the chance to win $100,000. A release date has yet to be announced.

Taylor Swift Thanks Fans After ‘Unbelievable’ Hot 100 Chart Achievement

Taylor Swift made history once again as she claimed the top 14 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart dated May 4. All of the tracks, led by “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone at the summit, are from her freshly released album, The Tortured Poets Department.

“You’ve outdone yourselves, this is unbelievable,” the 34-year-old superstar wrote on social media on Monday (April 29), responding to the exciting news.

She also charts 32 songs – all 31 from the deluxe version of The Tortured Poets Department plus Lover stand-out hit “Cruel Summer” – on the latest list overall, the most ever in a single week by a woman. Swift was already the only artist ever to dominate the Hot 100’s entire top 10 — thanks to tracks from her last album of all-new material, Midnights, in 2022, led by the collection’s “Anti-Hero.”

On streaming, Tortured Poets has also earned more than a billion listens across its 31 tracks on Spotify in just five days since its release, the fastest LP to ever do so. The milestone marks only the latest record Swift has set with the new album over the past few days, with Tortured Poets recently becoming Spotify’s most streamed album in a single day with more than 300 million streams accumulated in its first 24 hours of availability. Similarly, “Fortnight” set a new precedent for most single-day streams amongst individual songs on the platform.

“This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up,” Swift wrote of her latest project on Instagram upon its release. “There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.”

Taylor Swift Charts 32 Songs on Hot 100, Including Every Track From ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

Taylor Swift is having a historic week on Billboard’s charts (dated May 4). On top of earning her 14th career No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with The Tortured Poets Department, she sets numerous new records across Billboard’s charts, including on the Billboard Hot 100.

As previously reported, the set launches at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 2.61 million equivalent album units earned in its opening week, according to Luminate. That’s the second-biggest week by that metric since Billboard began measuring the week’s most popular albums by equivalent album units in 2014, after Adele’s 25 (3.482 million, Dec. 12, 2015).

As Swift earns her 14th career Billboard 200 No. 1 album, she ties Jay-Z for the most among soloists. Overall, only The Beatles have more (19).

Further, Swift charts 26 songs in the latest Hot 100’s top 40, a new one-week record. She surpasses the 22 that Drake logged on the Oct. 21, 2023, tally, when his most recent album, For All the Dogs, debuted atop the Billboard 200.

Plus, with 15 songs in the Hot 100’s top 20, Swift ties Drake for the most entries in the region in a single week. He charted 15 of the top 20 on the chart dated Nov. 19, 2022, as Her Loss, with 21 Savage, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Notably, Drake got in the way of Swift claiming 16 of the top 20 this week: his new single, “Push Ups,” enters at No. 19.

With 31 debuts, Swift ups her career total to 263 Hot 100 entries. That’s the most among women and the second-most overall, after Drake’s 330 (he adds a new entry this week, with “Push Ups”). Of those, 12 have hit No. 1 and 59 have hit the top 10 (the second-most, after Drake’s 77).

Mandisa’s Friends & Fellow ‘American Idol’ Alumni Talk Tribute to Late Singer: ‘Christian Music Lost Its No. 1 Cheerleader’

Monday night’s (April 29) live episode of American Idol will include a tribute to Mandisa, the season 5 finalist who died April 19 at age 47.

Melinda Doolittle (season 6), Danny Gokey (season 8) and Colton Dixon (season 11) — who were all personal friends and professional colleagues of the late Grammy-winning artist — will return to the Idol stage in Hollywood to honor the late singer with the song “Shackles (Praise You),” a 2000 top 10 hit by Mary Mary.

Doolittle and Mandisa became friends before either one competed on Idol. “I met Mandisa in the studio,” Doolittle told Billboard while waiting for her flight to Los Angeles to appear on the show. “We were both singing background for a project produced by our good friend Chance Scoggins. Mandisa was singing soprano, of course, and I was definitely singing alto, and we hit it off. She told me she was going to compete on American Idol and I said, ‘That couldn’t be me. You have a great time.’

“I remember watching Simon Cowell say some words to her that weren’t kind, but she was so resilient. She was willing to forgive him while I was thinking: ‘What kind of human being is he?’”

The following week, Cowell made a rare on-air apology to the singer he insulted. “I’ve been learning from her ever since how to navigate life and treat people well,” says Doolittle. A year later, she told Mandisa she was going to audition for Idol after all.

“She immediately said, ‘What’s going to be hard is Hollywood Week. That almost broke me, so I made myself a Bible study and I’m going to give you that so every day you have something to read.’ She gave me this pink bedazzled folder of Bible studies to go through. Her other advice was, ‘Take snacks.’ Those were the two best things she could have told me about Hollywood Week.”

The two singers stayed in touch during Doolittle’s season. “She was the biggest cheerleader anyone could ever have. After my performances, she would message or call me and tell me everything that was good. If I brought up something that went wrong, she would say, ‘That’s not what we’re here to talk about.’ She remained a cheerleader for the rest of her life. She would buy front-row seats to my concerts and be the loudest audience member ever.”

Their friendship continued to grow as the years passed by. “We would go to dinner together. We both got mistaken for the other all the time. I would just say, ‘Thank you.’ And when I was by myself, people would come up to me and tell me how the song ‘Overcomer’ [which spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart in 2013] changed their lives. I couldn’t wait to pass that along to her.”

With her flight delayed, Doolittle talked about returning to Idol 16 seasons after her run on the show. “I’m petrified every time. That stage holds such a beautiful pace for me and a scary place, all at the same time. I am so beyond grateful that they’ve chosen to honor Mandisa and to be a part of it with my buddies Danny and Colton. We’re good friends and we go to church together. I’m glad to have them with me. But I would be lying if I didn’t tell you I still get extremely nervous about that stage.”

Billboard also reached out to Dixon, who was in Alabama on his final stop in a four-show tour, before flying to Los Angeles on Monday morning. Like Mandisa, Dixon was signed to Capitol, which led to his own very successful career in Contemporary Christian music.

“I remember when I met Mandisa the first time, discovering how much of a fan she was. She was so supportive of what I was doing. Not only did our industry lose a really big voice and a powerhouse of a person, but Christian music lost its No. 1 cheerleader. She was that for everyone.”

Asked about Mandisa’s hit single “Overcomer,” Dixon said, “It was a massive song with so much truth. Everyone needs to hear that. Buckle up, keep going, and you can do it. And that’s who she was too. I loved all of her songs. There’s so much joy in her music.”

Dixon recalled that he toured with Mandisa one time. “We were out with TobyMac. Mandisa and I were on a bus together. Every morning, I would beat her to the front lounge, and when she came up, I would sing her song ‘Good Morning’ to her. I’m pretty sure she hated that song by the end of the tour. But we had so much fun together. What I’m going to miss the most are those Mandisa talks, those hugs. I believe I’m going to get those again one day, but I’m going to miss it while I’m here.”

Billboard also asked Dixon about his thoughts on returning to Idol. “Anytime American Idol reaches out, it’s an honor for me to be a part of that stage. I wish it was under different circumstances. But as both a fan of the show and a friend and colleague of Mandisa, when I get there today, I’m going to say, ‘Thank you for paying tribute to her,’ because she was a big voice on the show and a big voice in our industry off the show. It means a lot to those close to her that they would recognize that. So I’m humbled and honored to be a part of that tribute.”

On Sunday, Gokey was singing at an evening worship service on Maui to offer hope to the survivors of the devastating Lahaina fire of August 2023. He sent Billboard a written statement about participating in Idol’s tribute to Mandisa.

“Mandisa was not only a fellow Idol, but a true friend and a huge part of the CCM music community. I had the privilege of touring with her several times and it was always fun to sing together. Her joy was infectious and she encouraged people on and off stage! When I made my debut in Christian music, she was my greatest supporter. It wasn’t easy coming off a failed record deal after the show, but she was the one who welcomed me first and loudest and rallied everyone to support me. She loved to cheer people on, to help them see the God-given purpose they had in the world. It’s an honor to be the one cheering her on this time and highlighting the impact she had in so many people’s lives.”

Showrunner and executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick, who has been with Idol since season 2, tells Billboard, “Mandisa was a bright light who brought joy to the millions who fell in love with her on American Idol back in 2006. She continued to have a storied career, always showing her dedication to her fans and her faith. She will be missed on an immense level. It is with a depth of gratitude that we are able to celebrate her life on our show.”

American Idol airs live Monday night at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.

Coolest Pop Song of the Week: Luke Hemmings, “Benny”



Luke Hemmings has not had a ton of downtime over the past decade. The lead vocalist of 5 Seconds of Summer was a kid at the moment he became famous, about to turn 18 years old when the Australian quartet released their self-titled debut album in 2014; five albums and countless tour dates later, Hemmings is 27, squarely in adulthood, having seen the world and trying to push himself into unexplored corners of his artistry.

“Benny,” from Hemmings’ newly released solo EP Boy, takes a melancholy approach to a hectic lifestyle: “Will I be saying goodbye from a dark hotel room? / Living on the sidelines, what am I supposed to do?” Hemmings asks, his voice glumly reaching for alternatives. Yet the rhetorical questions and muted vocal take create an effective tension with the song’s dreamy synth beds. Hemmings never pushes the song toward the anthemic territory he’s covered well with 5SOS, but the quieter aspects of “Benny” come through amidst the soothing production, as if he’s tucking his confessions inside the prettiest package possible.

5 Seconds of Summer have impressively evolved their sound over the decade, becoming one of the more reliable pop-rock groups on the planet; now, Hemmings is doing the same with his solo work, following the 2021 debut When Facing the Things We Turn Away From. A song like “Benny” deserves to find a listenership beyond 5SOS completists, and hopefully will lead Hemmings to even more ambitious solo work.

Tiwa Savage Reveals the ‘Water & Garri’ Soundtrack’s Tracklist From Her Upcoming Debut Film

Ahead of Tiwa Savage‘s upcoming debut film Water & Garri, the Afrobeats superstar revealed the full tracklist for the official soundtrack on Monday (April 29).

The 10-track project features collaborations with Olamide and Mystro Sugar (“Commona”), Reekado Banks (“Reason”), Aṣa (“Emotions”), Zacardi Cortez (“I Need You”), Ayra Starr (“Gara”), Black Sherif and Young Jonn (“Kilimanjaro”) and Richard Bona and The Cavemen (“Water & Garri”).

WATER & GARRI

The Water & Garri soundtrack is not to be confused with Savage’s 2021 EP of the same name, which featured collaborations with Nas and Rich King (“Work Fada”), Amaarae (“Tales By Moonlight”), Brandy (“Somebody’s Son”) and Tay Iwar (“Special Kinda”). Pharrell Williams hailed the project as “a classic.”

Produced by Everything Savage and Unbound Studios, Water & Garri will premiere on Prime Video on May 10, with the soundtrack being released on the same day via EMPIRE.

Directed by Meji Alabi, Water & Garri tells the story of Aisha (played by Savage), an ambitious fashion designer who has spent the last 10 years in the U.S., and returns to her native country following a family bereavement. “At home, things have changed — violence has escalated and tensions have been high. As she reconnects with family, old friends, and her past love, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind,” a press release accompanying the announcement said.



Mike Afolarin (Far From Home), Andrew Bunting (Dynamite) and Jemima Osunde (New Money) will star alongside Savage in the new movie, which was filmed in Cape Coast, Ghana. Savage, Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Jimi Adesanya and Meji Alabi are all executive producers. The Prime Video film will be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Amid rumors that the 24-year-old singer dated Dominic Purcell before the Prison Break actor went on to marry her mother, Tish Cyrus, Noah took to Instagram to reply to a commenter who brought up the alleged love triangle.

“Dear lord, when I get i heaven please let me bring my man,” Noah captioned a series of photos from Coachella, in reference to lyrics from headliner Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful.” In the comment section, an Instagram user quipped, “Like that guy u and ur mom both have sexy time with?”

Noah then replied, “Hey real grandma , I’m so sorry but will you pleeeeeass just choke on the fattest c—. just for a lil bit. great thanks.”
