Rodrigo and Partridge first sparked romance rumors back in October when they were seen spending time together in London, walking seemingly with their arms wrapped around each other’s waist. The Enola Holmes star was also seen supporting the “Get Him Back!” singer at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball in New York City on Dec. 8, and again one day later when she served as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

Rodrigo’s Guts deluxe track, “So American,” is rumored to be about the actor, as she sings in the chorus: “I’d go anywhere he goes/ And he says I’m so American/ Oh God, I’m gonna marry him/ If he keeps this s–t up/ I might just be in love.”

The superstar is gearing up to to head out on the Asian leg of the Guts World Tour, which kicks off Sept. 16 in Bangkok, Thailand, and will find Rodrigo traveling through Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Soon afterward, Rodrigo will play two shows in Melbourne followed by two in Sydney in October. She’ll be joined for all four Australian shows by rising alt-pop star Benee. Houston Meteorologist Uses Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ to Soundtrack Weather Report

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” has permeated different avenues of culture outside of music such as politics with a Joe Biden ad, and the Drake diss has now found its way into a weather report.

Houston meteorologist Adam Krueger shrewdly weaved K. Dot’s wordplay into Tuesday’s (June 4) CW39 broadcast as “Not Like Us” helped spell out the steamy temperatures in Texas, which probably threw off some of his audience.

“Let’s say you want to travel somewhere cooler. How many opps you got? If you wanna pass on this heat like John Stockton you can go into the Northwest where there’s 60s and 70s for highs today,” he said while channeling his inner-Kendrick. “So again, we got temperatures in the 90s, but it’s going to feel hotter for several days. Wop, wop, wop, wop!”

Trending on Billboard

Krueger continued: “This is not a major cold front. In fact, the general rule this time of year if it’s June and we’re talking about a cold front, it’s probably a minor.”

The meteorologist hopped into the comment section to clarify that he’s not choosing sides in the Kendrick-Drake feud. “For the record, I’m not picking sides. I want no part of this beef,” he wrote.

However, fans loved to see him leaning into “Not Like Us.” “Certified weather man,” one commenter crowned him while another envisioned the scene of an elderly person not understanding any of the references.

For his final trick, one camera panned to another which hilariously had a printed-out photo of Drake taped to it and hanging underneath the lens.

It should be known that Adam Krueger is no stranger to incorporating rap lyrics into his broadcasts. He previously went viral mixing in bars from Eminem’s “Without Me” and Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz’s “Get Low” anthems.

K. Dot’s “Not Like Us” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May and is still holding strong at No. 2 on the latest chart. The Mustard-produced West Coast bop also came in at No. 2 on the inaugural 2024 Songs of the Summer chart, which returned on Tuesday.

Come for the weather and stay for “Not Like Us.” Watch the fun broadcast below.

De La Soul Drops Trailer for Documentary About Putting Catalog on Streaming

Legendary rap group De La Soul worked for years to get their influential music catalog on streaming services. Sample clearances and disputes with their old label Tommy Boy kept their albums off DSPs up until recently. It wasn’t until Reservoir Media purchased Tommy Boy as part of a $100 million acquisition that the group’s music finally became available digitally. The group and Reservoir Media worked tirelessly to format the group’s first six albums for streaming, and the new documentary Chapter 3 chronicles that journey.

Fans couldn’t help but scream with excitement when the former One Direction star took a break from his regularly scheduled show mid-concert at the Bridgestone Arena to welcome Kahan to the stage. “Since we’re in Nashville, there’s some good songwriters around the place,” Horan said as the Vermont native stepped out.

The pair went on to perform the Irish pop star’s 2016 hit for the crowd, both of them sitting on stools and playing guitar. “If the whole world was watching, I’d still dance with you,” they sang in delicate harmony. “Drive highways and byways to be there with you/ Over and over, the only truth/ Everything comes back to you.”

Trending on Billboard

“This Town” was the lead single from Horan’s debut solo album Flicker. It peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017, a full seven years before Kahan’s “Stick Season” — another folksy track about one’s town serving as a constant reminder of heartbreak — would reach the chart’s top 10.

After the show, Kahan tweeted that Horan is “King.” He also added, “I’m so inspired by the show I just saw.”

Both the “Slow Hands” singer and Kahan are currently on tour; in fact, the “Dial Drunk” musician performed at the Bridgestone Arena just nine days before Horan stopped by. The ex-boy-bander will next make stops in North Carolina, Virgina and Pennsylvania, while Kahan is slated to perform in Missouri, Kansas and Minnesota this week.

Simon Cowell Is Holding Auditions to Find the Next Big Boy Band

It’s been nearly 14 years since One Direction was formed on The X Factor UK in 2010, and now Simon Cowell is looking for another boy band phenomenon.

The judge will be holding auditions to put together the next big boy band, and the process will be filmed for a “potential documentary series” produced with Box to Box Films, according to Rolling Stone. Cowell will be holding open call auditions across the United Kingdom to find potential band members to undergo a boy band boot camp. “Every generation deserves a megastar boyband and I don’t think there has been one to have the success of One Direction in over 14 years. The industry tends to focus on solo artists – so it usually takes someone from outside to put a group together,” Cowell shared to the publication.

He continued, “There’s always a high degree of risk, and I genuinely have no idea what’s going to happen! We might uncover an incredible group; we might not get there. What if no one shows up to auditions? That could be awkward. There is no guaranteed path to success – anything can happen, but that’s what’s exciting for me, and that’s why I’m doing this.”

Auditions will begin in England next month in Newcastle, Dublin, Liverpool and London. There is no streaming service yet attached to the upcoming potential docuseries.

“I’ve been able to perfect the songs and the music and I know exactly what the sound is, what i’m shooting for,” he adds.

Shaboozey Subverts Westward Expansion Trope on Terrific Third LP, ‘Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going’ (Critic’s Take)

“How did all these people find out about Shaboozey?” one audience member could be heard asking at the country star’s headlining show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on May 17.

It’s the kind of question that longtime fans grapple with when their favorite artists have their breakthrough moments, but in Shaboozey’s case, the answer is pretty clear. Ten years removed from “Jeff Gordon,” a piano-inflected trap banger that granted him his first quasi-viral moment, the Nigerian-American singer-songwriter has combined his own self-sourced momentum, the glow of dual appearances on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter and an authentic understanding of the throughline between outlaw country and hip-hop to arrive at his splendid third studio album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going

The months-long build-up for Shaboozey’s third LP has resulted in a series of buzzy moments, each bigger than the last. Despite a third of the album already out in the world as singles – with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” leading the way, thanks to its No. 3 Billboard Hot 100 peak – Where I’ve Been sidesteps a lack of cohesion by contextualizing those standout singles (“Annabelle,” “Let It Burn” and “Vegas,” among them) within a narrative that subverts the idea of Westward expansion.

Trending on Billboard

In his May Billboard profile, Shaboozey explained the similarities between “the outlaw Old West and hip-hop” as “talking about the same things: going out and going after what is yours, and having to finesse to make ends meet.”

“If you listen to some old Western music, especially gunfighter ballads… Marty Robbins is a good one, [he] was a thug! He’s like robbing cattle, robbing trains, [he] knows [his] mom is disappointed,” he said. “It’s the same s–t Bossman Dlow [is] talking about, it’s just painted in a different world. Switch out draco for a six shooter. Switch out Balmain jeans for Wrangler jeans or chaps.”

The urgency of this middle ground – as well as this particular aesthetic’s preoccupation with moving forward (and westward) while always honoring the past – makes it a natural sonic space for Boozey’s third LP to reside in.

Where I’ve Been commences with “Horses & Hellcats,” a song whose title immediately synthesizes Shaboozey’s penchants for hip-hop, country and Western aesthetics. “We ride palominos like they’re SRTs/ Once I pick a speed, ain’t no catchin’ me,” he sings in the chorus, employing a cadence that’s firmly rooted in melodic rap, while his raspy drawl plays on the more overt country elements of the song (namely the brooding guitars and the neighing horses in the background.) “Horses & Hellcats” is a song that exalts the common ground between outlaw country and hip-hop. Preying on the shock value of the two genres’ juxtaposition isn’t Shaboozey’s goal –it’s the way those two genres are intrinsically tied together in Shaboozey’s artistic, sonic and personal profile that makes the sound so arresting.

“Last of My Kind,” assisted by East Texas country rocker Paul Cauthen, emphasizes the outlaw feel of Shaboozey’s sound, with Cauthen’s dramatic warble pairing well with the rock influences of the song’s arrangement. “Can’t wait much longer, baby, yeah, it’s my time/ You won’t ever find another like me, uh, I’m the last of my kind,” Boozey closes the song, once again musing over new destinations, both literally and figuratively. Standout tracks “Highway” and “East of the Massanutten” — which finds Shaboozey “runnin’ full speed ahead out West” for his “freedom” and “40 acres” – keep that theme of new frontiers at the forefront of the record, despite occasional detours into poppier, more saccharine affairs. While those tracks do balance out the record’s darker moments, they still feel like surface-level examples of where Shaboozey can take his sound; in those moments, the outlaw cowboy becomes a law-abiding citizen of the country-pop state – a concession that Boozey doesn’t really need to make.

Advance singles “A Bar Song” and “Anabelle” are still stellar showcases of Shaboozey’s knack for melody, as is the BigXThaPlug-assisted “Drink Don’t Need No Mix,” which finds two of the South’s hottest new stars standing proudly in the legacy of country rappers like Nelly. Boozey and BigX have the best chemistry out of any of the album’s other collaborators; both of their voices effortlessly skate over the trap-inflected beat as they provide a celebratory complement to the escapist revelry of “A Bar Song.”

Outside of Cauthen and BigXThaPlug, Grammy nominee Noah Cyrus is the album’s only other featured artist. Always a strong duet partner (her past collaborations with Demi Lovato and big sister Miley Cyrus are both absolutely gorgeous), Noah provides a tender upper harmony on “My Fault” that picks up on the emotional fragility of the track’s finger-picked acoustic guitar. Here, the glory and wonder of unfamiliar streets are tempered by grueling heartbreak – a testament to Shaboozey’s ability to embrace and honor the full breadth of what it means to move forward. “But this road you lead me down is too long/ It ain’t nothin’ like the streets I grew up on/ When I beg you not to go, you leave again/ Well, I guess I wasn’t enough in the end,” they croon.

At a tight 12 tracks, there’s no real filler on Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. Shaboozey assembled his strongest hooks and smartest arrangements to craft a record that embraces both country music tradition and modernity. A decade into the game, his singular vision of the 21st century urban outlaw cowboy has finally coalesced into something that’s not just coherent, but also plainly irresistible. Whether he’s belting out heartbreak ballads like “Let It Burn” or parsing the consequences of homewrecking on late-album standout “Steal Her From Me,” Shaboozey has delivered a terrific record of songs tailor-made to rock the arenas – which will certainly be where he’s going.

Gabito Ballesteros Debuts Across Billboard Albums Charts With ‘The GB’

Gabito Ballesteros debuts across Billboard’s album charts as The GB launches at No. 3 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart and at No. 5 on Top Latin Albums chart (dated June 8). His debut studio full-length album, released May 23 via Los CT/Instercope/ICLG, marks his first visit to any Billboard albums ranking. The GB concurrent debuts at No. 65 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, the 24-year-old’s first foray there.

The GB opens with 14,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the tracking week ending May 30, according to Luminate. Streams contribute most of the debut week activity, which equates to 19.6 million official on-demand streams of the album’s songs.

Trending on Billboard

The 22-track set is Ballesteros’ first entry on the Regional Mexican Albums and Top Latin Albums tallies, after notching previous entries across Billboard‘s songs rankings, including a No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, and two top 20 performances on the Billboard Global 200 chart.

As The GB launches at No. 3 on Regional Mexican Albums, it joins two other efforts with an equal No. 3 start in 2024 –the highest opening among the five top 10 debuts this year. Further, it gives imprint Los CT its maiden top 10 start since the regional Mexican ranking launched in 1985. Here’s the recap of those 2024 top 10 debuts:

Debut Pos., Artist, Title, Debut Date

  • No. 5, Oscar Maydon, Distorsión, Jan. 6
  • No. 3, Luis R Conriquez, Corridos Bélicos, Vol. IV, Jan. 20
  • No. 3, Fuerza Regida, Dolido, Pero No Arrepentido (EP), Feb. 24
  • No. 6, Grupo Frontera, Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada, May 25
  • No. 3, Gabito Ballesteros, The GB, June 8, 2024

On the song realm, “Sin Yolanda,” with Peso Pluma, leads three The GB entries on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart, where it opens at No. 20, powered mostly by 3.1 million official U.S. streams. The set’s previously charted song “El Boss,” with Natanael Cano, rises 50-44 (largely from 1.9 million streams), while “Lucky Charms,” with both collaborators, Cano and Pluma, bows at No. 47 (mostly from 1.8 million streams).

The album was also preceded by the No. 19-peaking “A Puro Dolor’ on Regional Mexican Airplay, Ballesteros’ banda-driven take of Son By Four’s ubiquitous pop hit, which dominated both, Hot Latin Songs and the overall Latin Airplay list for 20 weeks in 2000. The song concurrently gifted Ballesteros his third entry on the latter, where it debuted and peaked at No. 41 (chart dated April 27).

Camilo Launches Tropical Albums Era With ‘Cuatro’

Elsewhere on the Latin charts, Latin pop singer-songwriter Camilo makes his debut on the Tropical Albums chart with Cuatro. The 12-song album is the sum of three previously released three-song projects (uno, dos, tres) along with three new songs.

The effort arrives at No. 6 on Tropical Albums with a little over 2,000 equivalent album units, mostly driven by streaming activity. That sum equates to 3.2 million official on-demand audio and video streams for the album’s songs this week, with a negligible amount of activity from track-equivalent units.

As Cuatro debuts, Camilo secures his first entry and top 10 on the list, after placing three top 10 albums on Latin Pop Albums, including the No. 1-peaking Por Primera Vez (two weeks atop in 2020).

Cuatro, released May 23 via Hecho a Mano/Sony Music Latin, was preceded by one song: “Plis,” a collab with wife Eva Luna Montaner, which took the couple to a No. 36 high on Latin Airplay (March 30) and gifted the Colombian soloist his sixth top 10 Tropical Airplay (peaked at No. 4 on March 16).
