Cheetos’ Deja Tu Huella Program Leaves Its Mark on Local Miami Students | Billboard News

Students at Miami Dade College received career advice, access to workshops and inspiration from J Balvin during Cheetos’ Community College Tour as part of their Deja Tu Huella program.

Cheetos left its mark on Miami when its Deja Tu Huella tour touched down at a local college, with some help from a Latin superstar. During the Deja Tu Huella tour stop at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson campus, students enjoyed career workshops led by Deja Tu Huella ambassadors, and received a special message from J Balvin. After all, the superstar knows a thing or two about reaching your full potential. 

J Balvin:

Hola mi gente, Miami Dade College aqui. J Balvin, thanks to Cheetos, my fingertips are officially part of Deja Tu Huella. I come straight up from Medellin, Colombia to tell you to keep studying and never stop chasing your dreams.

So it was only fitting he teamed up with Cheetos. The partnership is intended to help promote education among the Latino community and nurture the next generation of trailblazers. In addition to the special greeting, students also received career advice, and they even partook in a culinary competition where the winner was awarded a scholarship, and it wouldn’t be a Deja Tu Huella celebration if there wasn’t enough free Cheetos swag to go around. The event also had food trucks, photo booths, tons of music, and of course, plenty of Cheetos. Sixpence None the Richer on Reuniting the Original Band and the Longevity of ‘Kiss Me’

Some ‘90s rock bands reunite for the paycheck of a festival appearance or an alternative rock package tour. The original members of Sixpence None the Richer got back together simply to make music again. 

As singer Leigh Nash and guitarist Matt Slocum tells Billboard’s Behind the Setlist podcast, the band members’ lives happened to intersect again for the first time since 2002. The result, the group’s new Rosemary Hill EP, was released on Oct. 4 through Flatiron Recordings, and the band is currently on a U.S. tour that concludes in Los Angeles on Dec. 15. 

“Leigh and I had started working on new music during the pandemic,” says Slocum. “Dale [Baker], who’s our drummer, started reaching out. He was coming into Nashville periodically, because he still works as a session musician here in town and in his hometown of Durham, North Carolina, and he tours a fair amount.”

Before long, Nash, Slouch and Baker were talking about making music together over dinner. That conversation led Nash to reach out to bass player Justin Cary.  “That ended up being very serendipitous,” says Slocum, “because he and his wife own a bakery in Albany, New York, and they had made the decision to close the bakery.” Nash called to ask Cary if he wanted to make music again, and “he was more than ready to jump in.” 

Truth be told, Sixpence None the Richer never really went away. The band’s 1998 breakthrough hit “Kiss Me,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 the following year, was streamed 70 million times and played on radio nearly 48,000 times in the U.S. last year, according to Luminate. The song has consistently been featured in television shows, too —i ncluding a 2016 episode of The Simpsons —and most recently can be heard in BLACKPINK member Lisa’s new song “Moonlit Floor,” which uses an interpolation of “Kiss Me” and takes its title from the song’s lyrics (“Kiss me, beneath the milky twilight / Lead me out on the moonlit floor”). 

Nash is hopeful “Moonlit Floor” helps the band reach new fans and introduces Rosemary Hill to a younger generation. “I have seen a pretty big uptick in people and followers on our social media platforms and and no doubt those are really young people. So, I’m excited to perhaps affect a brand new generation with the new music that we’re putting out. That would be an insane blessing.”

“It’s been really cool to see how it’s connected with people all over the world and has done this generational jump,” adds Slocum. That “Moonlit Floor” songwriters Ryan Williamson and Jessie Reyez chose to utilize “Kiss Me” “shows that it’s just timeless,” he says.

Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested on allegations that he violated the terms of a parole agreement. Keep watching for the full story.

Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested. But why? He’s being charged with violating plea deal parole rules. And we have the details. You may remember that the “Gooba” rapper famously struck a plea deal with prosecutors and flipped on his former gang mates. He was arrested and placed in custody on Oct. 29 over allegations that he violated the terms of that agreement. His supervised release is set to expire in April of 2025. According to court records, Tekashi pleaded not guilty. In a statement to Billboard, Tekashi’s attorney said his client had been “charged with three technical violations regarding his supervised release” and that he was “confident that each specification will be dismissed.”

Pipe Bueno:
Hi there! How are you, my friends and mamacitas? I’m Pipe Bueno and we are at Behind the Photo with Billboard.

Let’s see, this photo happened in a studio in Bogota called Audiovision. I was with my friend Jerry [Gerardo Coronel]. I had the pleasure to have him in Bogota for a few days because Jerry is Mexican, so he didn’t know my country very well at that time. I was able to show him a little of what our Colombian culture in Bogota. The food, I took him to a good Colombian restaurant and we recorded our song, our collaboration. It’s called “Una Pregunta.” The song turned out beautifully. It was a song him and his team produced. The vocals were literally recorded in Bogota.

Good memory, this one. That’s my younger brother, we are both ready to depart on a direct flight to Madrid and then to Milan. In fact, the person taking the photo is also here with me, the commander-in-chief, my lady, who is also accompanying me today. We had a beautiful trip to Milan Fashion Week, where we went as ambassadors of Hugo Boss. And, well, for the second year in a row where we were the only Colombians representing within the musical genre and my wife as a content creator, in one of the most iconic places in the fashion world, Milan.

So, we’re going to start with “Padam Padam” because obviously “Padam”-demonioum, you know, took the country, took TikTok by storm. The hook, the delivery is a little something different than what you would expect for a pop song. Did that give you any freedom to approach these ‘Tension II’ songs differently?

Yeah, it opened a lot of doors and it was “the one” for me at this point in time. You know, it was the wave that I was able to catch. I’m still riding it, you know. Not on that song solely, but everything that’s around that. I say that I’m kind of in my villain era, Killing Eve. Unless you’ve heard ‘Tension II-’

I have.

I guess I kind of took it in my stride recording it, but now that I’m looking at it as a body of work, I’m thinking “what are other people going to hear.” And I think that would be the kind of string throughout it.In a not creepy way.

So, you know, I would lay up at night thinking, like, “Is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?” There’s nothing wrong with it. I got, I got really comfortable. She got, she got islands. I’m waking up at noon and people bringing me steaks on a platter, but I’m like this ain’t the hustler.

Nick Cannon and Mariah tied the knot in 2008 and the singer gave birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe in 2011.

Then when you have children, and the hierarchy of just your man s–t is like, wait, I can’t I’m carrying a purse, the diaper bag. I’m standing on the corner. Wait, you know, like she rocking, being all the alpha that well, by the way, she deserves it, and she did. I believe she needs to do like that. Yeah, I’m just not that dude, you know. And it never … her and I never had problems, yeah, never argue, never even, even with, even with me struggling in this space.
