Last season, Stranger Things had a major impact on the Billboard charts,  giving Kate Bush her first Hot 100 Top 10 with “Running Up That Hill” at No. 3. The cast of the 5th & final season of Stranger Things gives us their anthems for taking on the “Upside Down” in Hawkins. Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo and more share their favorite tunes on the red carpet of the premiere.

Catrise Johnson:

Before heading into the upside down, what would your character be blasting in their headphones?

Millie Bobby Brown:

Beyonce.

What Beyonce song?

Millie Bobby Brown:

“American Requiem.”

That’s a good one. That’s a good one.

Millie Bobby Brown:

Or “YA YA.”

What is your character playing in their headphones?

Finn Wolfhard:

Probably some punk or some metal. Eddie from season four probably got into his got into his head, and got him into some heavier music. So maybe Metallica?

Noah Schnapp:

It’s Will Byers, I feel like he’s very like indie, maybe like boy genius, like just a little indie.

I like that.

Noah Schnapp:

Maybe I should just go with a classic. My favorite, “Forever Young.”

Gaten Matarazzo:

This is very good, like a hype up song. We need something to hype you up a little bit. Maybe we could go with like…

Beyonce?

Gaten Matarazzo:

Oh my gosh. How about all of ‘Renaissance.’

Oh, my God. ‘Renaissance?’

Gaten Matarazzo:

The tour was amazing. I didn’t get to see ‘Cowboy Carter’

Act three we have to be there.

Gaten Matarazzo:

Yes, I’ll be able to make it two for three.

Priah Ferguson:

Maybe Whitney Houston.

Oh, what Whitney Houston song?

Probably, I believe our children are the future.

Carín León, Kali Uchis and other major stars of Latin music come together to answer fan mail during Billboard Latin Music Week 2025. Watch as they share heartfelt reactions, personal reflections and connect directly with the fans who inspire their music.

Kali Uchis: Hello, everyone. I’m Kali Uchis.

Ela Taubert: I’m Ela Taubert.

Jowell: This is Jowell, from the duo Jowell and Randy, the loosest in reggaeton.

Silvana Estrada: I’m Silvana Estrada.

Carín León: What’s up, my friends? I’m Carin León, and we’re going to play Fan Mail with Billboard. This fusion has been decades overdue to hit the mainstream, and I’m here for it. As they say, right? I also think that this fusion has been present in the way we see music and how we express it. One of my biggest missions today is to bring our roots back and give them a freshness — a new version for all the new generations. In a way, it’s about bringing what Mexico is, what Sonora is, to the world while fusing it with global music, which has so much to offer and showcase.

Kali Uchis: The Fan Mail says: “Honestly, I’ve never seen a tour so beautiful. I can’t wait anymore to cry to ‘Heaven Is a Home’ live.” Yes, I feel like almost every night I’m going to cry too with that song. It’s so emotional!

Ela Taubert: “Bestie, your songs are a Band-Aid for the soul. Going to the concert recharged me so much. These last few days in my life have been heavy.” Honestly, I’ve always thought this dream — like God put it in my life — to allow me to meet you and the fans. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives.

Jowell: “It’s good to be great, but greater is to be good.” That’s interesting. I’d heard that phrase from a salsa legend, Héctor Lavoe, who’s from Ponce, Puerto Rico.

5 Seconds of Summer pulls up to Barney’s Beanery in L.A. to talk about the group’s new album, Everyone’s a Star!, over drinks, food and a game of pool. The members share why they made a complete 180 with the new album, what their recording sessions looked like, how they’re tackling the stigma of being a boy band, their Billboard chart history, who they would include in a super boy band, their touring experiences and more!

5 Seconds of Summer: Like the apple baby. That’s going to be a tight squeeze.

Tetris Kelly: 5 Seconds of Summer, what!

5 Seconds of Summer: Tetris looks very confused. I like this. Sup, Billboard.

Ashton: Nice. Welcome to Barney’s Beanery.

Yo, fellas, this is sick.

Ashton: We’re here, man.

Yeah, come on in, guys, let’s get some food. I mean, not every day you get to kick it at Barney’s Beanery with 5SOS. Wait, do y’all hate when people do that? 5SOS? Do you care?

Michael: That’s what it’s meant to be.

I’m just saying.

Michael: 5 SOS is wrong.

Does anybody ever walk up to you and say, “Hey, 5 SOS.”

Calum: Instantly shunned.

They’re not allowed at the table.

Michael: They wouldn’t be invited to lunch at Barney’s Beanery.

Luke: No, 100%.

And like, what’s the story behind Barney’s Beanery? Like, you guys come here often? Like, why did we pick here to hang out today?

Ashton: Oh, because Outback Steakhouse said no. I thought you guys already knew that.

Luke: Which is some bulls–t, honestly because you know what? Outback Steakhouse started by a Floridian guy.

Calum: Yes, he’s not even Australian.

Luke: And we go, “Oh, we’re the biggest band from Australia.”

Ashton: And he has the hide to say, “No thanks.”

Luke: He says, “No.” You dropped- I don’t know which camera to go to. I’m gonna go to all of them.  Applebees saying no? Fumbled the bag. Chili’s saying no like that’s fair, but Outback, like, come on. I thought, I thought we were cool.

Ashton: At the end of the day, we have to thank the Beanery. Thank you for having us. It’s our sweet sanctuary. You were our fourth choice.

Normani teaches Olympic gymnast, Jordan Chiles her dance routine and what it takes for her to be a star on stage.

Normani

So today I’m swapping spaces. I have a special guest.

Dondraico Johnson

Can they dance though?

Normani

Absolutely.

Jordan Chiles

I mean, the entrance might have seemed I was really hype, but I’m actually really nervous

Normani

Okay I mean, nervous is okay.

Jordan Chiles

Yeah, yeah, I guess.

Dondraico Johnson

You’re in a safe space this is the best place.

Jordan Chiles

I feel. I feel it. I feel the energy.

Normani

And you have a dance background.

Jordan Chiles

I do. I do. I was dancing until I was about five years old, tap, hip hop and ballet, believe it. Then gymnastics took over so.

Normani

Great foundation.

Dondraico Johnson

See the greats across the board. We good. You got this.

Jordan Chiles

Are you sure? I ain’t trying to embarrass myself?

Dondraico Johnson

Trust me

Normani

And you won’t, we wouldn’t have you go out there like that.

Jordan Chiles

Yeah, I do. I do. I did put you on a beam today.

Normani

She did. Had me doing aerials and cartwheels.

Jordan Chiles

So I guess, since I’m in her space, she was in mine.

Dondraico Johnson

You trying to kill my friend?

Jordan Chiles

I didn’t mean too.

Normani

We’re gonna get even.

Jordan Chiles

This is her getting even.

Normani

Let’s do it.

Jordan Chiles

Let’s do it. Let’s go.

Normani

Okay, so I’m gonna call my vocal coach, because we got to get warm vocally to make sure that that aligns with what we’re doing in terms of the movement, okay, okay, okay.

Jordan Chiles

See ya. Thanks. Bye. Don’t leave me, but thanks.
