We are partnering with TalkShopLive all week long and yesterday we had Garth Brooks live from Nashville during the segment a fan asked the country superstar if he could elaborate on his cameo in the upcoming ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ sequel featuring Paul McCartney and Elton John and he had this to say,

Garth Brooks
“No. Can’t say anything about it. It’s not my deal. If it was my deal, I’d spill my guts but it’s not so they swear you to secrecy into silence. I will tell you this. I will tell you this though. If you think you have laughed before, Jiminy Christmas, first of all, I was loved with ‘Spinal Tap’ in love with the original movie, the fact that it’s coming back. It’s just, it’s going to be neat to get to be a part of this because it’s history, man.”

Billie Eilish Says ‘Literally Who Cares’ About Her Sexuality, Taylor Swift Dominates Billboard 200 & More | Billboard News

Billie Eilish is wondering what the big deal is about her sexuality, Taylor Swift dominates the Billboard 200 albums chart with five albums in the top 10, Cardi B makes her runway debut at Balenciaga’s star-studded LA show, get to know former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke a little more during Speed Dating, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” hits No. 1 on the Hot 100 for the first time and more.

Tetris Kelly:
Billie Eilish is out and proud but confused. Did Cardi B help uncancel Balenciaga? Christmas is all over the Hot 100 with a new leader. Taylor Swift grabs yet another chart achievement and we hang out to get to know our friend Ally Brooke.

Happy Monday, y’all. It’s December 4th, and I’m finally back from Asia. I’m so excited to be bringing you the news again so let’s get right into our top story. Taylor Swift continues to make history on our charts, this time, it’s the Billboard 200.

Taylor Swift is the queen of the Billboard 200 Albums chart dated December 9th. She has a staggering five albums in the Top 10. ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ reclaims the top spot with ‘Midnights’ landing in third, ‘Folklore’ grabs No. 5, ‘Lover’ takes six and ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ re-enters at No. 10. Taylor is the only living artists with at least 5 titles in the Top 10 at the same time in the past 60 years. The only other act to hold at least 5 of the Top 10 at the same time was Prince on the May 14th, 2016 dated list following his death.

And while Taylor is topping the Billboard 200, we’ve got a new queen of the Hot 100 and it’s taken her a long time to get her top spot.

Billie Eilish, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo & More at 2023 Variety Hitmakers Brunch

Some of the biggest music stars of 2023 gathered Saturday at Nya West in Hollywood, Calif., for the seventh annual Variety Hitmakers Brunch, which honored the stars and behind-the-scenes players involved in the 25 most-consumed songs of the year, as measured by Luminate.

SZA was honored as hitmaker of the year; Billie Eilish and Finneas were honored with film song of the year for “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack; Olivia Rodrigo was honored as storyteller of the year; boygenius were group of the year; Ashley Gorley was songwriter of the year; Eslabon Armado got collaboration of the year for “Ella Baila Sola” with Peso Pluma; Maren Morris was changemaker of the year; Mark Ronson accepted soundtrack of the year for Barbie: The Album; Metro Boomin was producer of the year; Victoria Monét accepted the triple threat award; Sabrina Carpenter received the rising star award; and Terrence “Punch” Henderson was executive of the year.

While presenting the soundtrack of the year prize to Ronson, Barbie star Ryan Gosling explained exactly what the film’s music did for his oft-overlooked character. “Up until six months ago, the entire world gave zero f—s about Ken,” Gosling said. “He was just this 70-year-old crotchless doll with no house, no car, no job and no voice — and look at him now! He has a Grammy-nominated power ballad and the voice of an angel. What happened? It’s simple. He met Mark Ronson, and his life changed forever. But he wasn’t the first and he won’t be the last — he’s just the latest in the long line of those who Mark has lent his creativity, generosity and infinite talent to synthesize their essence into music.”

Billy Porter on the Meaning of ‘Black Mona Lisa,’ Telling Billy Strayhorn’s Story & More | Billboard News

Tony-, Emmy- and Grammy-winning actor and singer Billy Porter explains the meaning of his album Black Mona Lisa, the important themes his album tackles, why he wants to tell Billy Strayhorn’s story on stage, how he uses fashion as a way to express himself and more.

Billy Porter:
I stayed in it. I did it anyway. Whatever the “it” is right. So I get to come back now. And all of this is on my own terms. Hey, everybody, this is Billy Porter, and you are watching Billboard News.

Tetris Kelly:
Hey, it’s Tetris with Billboard News, and look who I have here! Mr. Billy Porter. Hi.

Billy Porter:
Hi, how are you?

Tetris Kelly:
You got a lot to talk about your magnum opus. You released this album Black Mona Lisa.

Billy Porter:
Yeah.

Tetris Kelly:
Why did you refer to it as that and how was this project different?

Billy Porter:
You know, we were writing. I was in the writing process with Justin Tranter and his team, and you know, we probably ’bout six, eight months into the process — we had written a bunch of other stuff, and the themes and the tone were forming. I don’t remember where “Black Mona Lisa” came from, I just kind of say, it kind of fell out of the sky. And everybody in the room was like …

Tetris Kelly:
That works.

Billy Porter:
Did that just happen? Like there was like a, you know, like, time stood still for about a good 20 seconds, and then like, maybe even 30. And then 20 minutes later, the song was written. It’s referencing the original Mona Lisa. And that painting is relevant, always — past, present and future. And that’s my goal with my legacy.

Tetris Kelly
Beyoncé surprises the world with a new track. Plus, so many more new Friday releases. Kelly Clarkson is getting big money from her ex. We sit down with Billy Porter and get to know Lady A a little more. This is Billboard News for Friday, December 1st.

Tetris Kelly
She did it again! Beyoncé surprised the Beyhive with new music with no teases or prior warnings. Queen Bey dropped “My House” ahead of the opening weekend of her ‘Renaissance’ concert film — more new music updates to come. But here’s our top story.

Tetris Kelly
Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock has been ordered to pay Kelly back $2.6 million. Kelly Clarkson has won a legal ruling that her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock owes her more than 2.6 million in commissions she paid to him for procuring business deals while he served as her manager. California’s labor commissioner ruled that Kelly’s ex procured several deals for Kelly that should have been handled by her talent agents at CAA, violating a California law that bans anyone other than licensed talent agents for procuring work for artists. Brandon must pay back commissions earned on four deals: over $1.9 million for Kelly’s role on The Voice, just north of $280,000 to promote Norwegian Cruise Lines, $450,000 to promote Wayfair, and $93 to host the Billboard Music Awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon in June 2020. The case was finalized in 2022, with the singer agreeing to pay $45,000 a month in child support for their two children plus a one-time payment of just over $1.3 million. Attorneys for both sides did not immediately return requests for comment.
