Famous Football Fans: Musicians Stuntin’ on the Sidelines

Music and sports are some of the world’s biggest industries. The two have long had a symbiotic relationship, especially in the United States, where everything is bigger and, well, louder – and doubly so where American football is concerned.

What would Sunday Night Football be, for instance, without its famous theme song? What would players do without their hype tracks, or halftime shows without live music? Music is an essential part of football season.  Plus, some of the biggest artists in the world often perform in the exact stadiums where teams kick off.

But the mutual love between football and music goes beyond the macro scale. Musicians, at the end of the day, are just like anyone else. Many of them are just as much a hardcore NFL fan as the next American, with a passion for their home team that runs almost as deep as their love for their craft.

That’s why it’s nothing out of the ordinary to see famous musicians turn up at pro and college football games. The Super Bowl is an unofficial yearly gathering of some of the world’s biggest celebrities, including singers, songwriters and rappers – and not just the ones performing the national anthem or at the annual Super Bowl Halftime Show concert. And the spotlight is always just as much on Taylor Swift watching games from her seat in Arrowhead Stadium as it is on Travis Kelce playing on the field whenever the pop star attends a Kansas City Chiefs game, she and the tight end having struck up an all-American romance in 2023.

Everyone from Justin Bieber to Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus to Jon Bon Jovi has cropped up on the sidelines to enjoy some good old-fashioned football over the years. Keep scrolling to see photos of various musicians on the sidelines below.

Playboi Carti Back Atop TikTok Billboard Top 50, Mariah Carey Rises to the Top 3 | Billboard News

Playboi Carti’s “Sky” returns to No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, with Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” creeping even closer to the top of the list, rising 3-2 on the ranking dated Dec. 9.

Tetris Kelly:
Playboy Carti returns to the top while Mariah Carey inches her way closer to No. 1.

Playboy Carti’s “Sky” soars back to No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting Dec. 7. And while that may be thanks to the “first of the month” lyrics, December is time for Christmas. The Queen of Christmas climbed one step closer to the top with “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” jumps from 18 up to No. 9. Not bad for a 78-year-old holiday legend.

Every Thursday, Billboard will bring you the verified list of the hottest songs on TikTok by monitoring music discovery and engagement on the platform in the United States. To find the TikTok Billboard Top 50 each week, users can simply go to any sound detail page and tap the top right button to access the charts page.

Karol G Opens Up About ‘Mañana Será Bonito’ Hitting No. 1, Global Stadium Tour & More | Billboard Cover

Colombian superstar Karol G opens up about becoming the first woman to have a Spanish-language album, Mañana Será Bonito, reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, her thoughts on doing a global stadium tour, her relationship with Feid, wanting to start a record label, giving back to her community and more.

Karol G
The energy people release, is directed toward me and it’s like I’m a battery, loading.

Karol G
Hey what’s up, I am Karol G and you are watching, Billboard.

Karol G
It had never happened. Yes it’s true! We are celebrating, we celebrate a lot as a team, but it’s crazy for me to think my album was the first album in Spanish to hit No. 1. To think Karol G is the first female Latin artist on a global stadium tour, is very crazy.

Karol G
I started in 2006 and I realized this month we celebrate 4 years of “Tusa.” But then, my first songs were released 15 or 16 years age. Imagine spending 15 years and thinking when will my moment come?

Karol G:
Someone told me, “Are you doing a stadium tour?” Beyoncé is doing stadiums. Taylor Swift is doing stadium tours. Are you ready for stadium tour? I said no. I’m not ready today. But I’ll be ready because it depends on me and my commitment. And on my team, the tour was planned for 2025. We did the Puerto Rico concert in March. At that moment, which was 11 days after the album was released people knew the whole album.

Karol G:
When I say “I go with the flow,” at the first show, I didn’t have the whole album and there were three dates. In the second, I had 4 more songs, and in the third show, I did the whole album. That’s where I sat and said I’m not interested in numbers, not interested in risk, not interested in anything. I want to do this tour and I want it to be global.

Victoria Monét on The Jaguar Tour, Her First Solo Hot 100 Entry, Love for Ciara & More | Tour Stop With Billboard News

Singer, songwriter and dancer Victoria Monét gives Billboard a full behind-the-scenes look at her The Jaguar Tour, being a mother on the road, getting her first solo Billboard Hot 100 placement, love for Ciara and more!

Victoria Monét:
Are you hearing that?

Cameraman:
Yeah, let’s hold for one second.

Victoria Monét:
I can’t get no quiet around here because we’re on tour.

What’s up? It’s Victoria Monét, and this is my tour stop in New York City. And this is where I’m at the stage right down there in a little bit, so see you there!

It’s my very first tour, headlining ever. I’m doing a combination of songs from Jaguar I and Jaguar II. So you get, like, kind of two of my projects in one tour. It’s just really awesome. I’m excited to be doing this.

If I had to pick my favorite songs to perform from ‘Jaguar I and II, I think I would bookend it. My show starts with “Moment,” which is from Jaguar I, and it’s always exciting to see the crowd for the very first time. Everyone’s just, like, super in tune, all the phones are out, so that’s always really exciting. And then the finale is really fun. I do a song from Jaguar II called “On My Mama.” There’s a lot of energy surrounding it — it’s on the radio right now, so it feels very current.

The dance from the music video is somewhat viral, so I can see people doing it in the audience, so that always makes it more, like, an interactive part of the show, which feels really fun to do.

To see “On My Mama” become my first solo Hot 100 entry is really insane. I’ve been writing for so long and I’ve seen glimpses of it for my pen, but not for me as an artist, so it’s really, like, a whole new light for me. I’m super excited. I’m really grateful. I know how much it takes to get an accolade now. So I’m just thankful for everyone who is behind the scenes pushing it, every person at radio, everybody who’s streaming it and sharing with their friends and just making it go and do what it’s doing. I just have a really good understanding of what it takes to be anywhere near Hot 100. So I’m very, very thankful.

And now we are headed to talk to the GRAMMY U students!

Morgan also comments on being snubbed at peer-voted awards shows like the CMAs and Grammys.

Will Brenda Lee’s ‘Christmas Tree’ Chart-Topper Lead to the Next Holiday No. 1 on the Hot 100?

Even though Brenda Lee was the most likely contender for the next Christmas song to top the Billboard Hot 100 — after spending the last four holiday seasons peaking at No. 2 — it didn’t make it any less amazing to see “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” up top on this week’s chart, 65 years after its initial release.

On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are talking all about Lee’s “Rockin’” rocket ride to No. 1, making it the third Christmas song to top the Hot 100 after Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” over the last four holiday seasons and “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” in 1958.

Now that Lee has shaken up the top 10, what other Christmas song could sneak in to No. 1 next? Listen to the new Pop Shop Podcast to hear our discussion about that and more below:

Today on the show, we’ve also got chart news on how Taylor Swift not only returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 1989 (Taylor’s Version), but also has five of the top 10 albums this week — the first time a living artist has held at least half of the top 10 since the chart combined its previously separate mono and stereo charts 60 years ago.

Juan Luis Guerra Talks ‘Radio Güira’ EP, ‘Capitán Avispa’ Film, Writing Music for His Wife & More | Billboard News

Latin music legend Juan Luis Guerra spoke with Billboard Español deputy editor Sigal Ratner-Arias about his latest EP ‘Radio Güira,’ his upcoming animated film ‘Capitán Avispa,’ writing music for his wife, finding inspiration, the key to his long career and more!

Juan Luis Guerra:
It was part of what ‘Radio Güira’ is. To bring joy and a message of peace, of love.

Hi, I’m Juan Luis Guerra, and you’re watching Billboard News.

Sigal Ratner-Arias:
Don Juan Luis Guerra, welcome to Billboard News. What an honor to have you here. Thanks for coming.

Juan Luis Guerra:
Thank you for the invitation.

Sigal Ratner-Arias:
“Radio Güira,” 6 songs merengue, son, bachata and more.

Juan Luis Guerra:
Yes.

Sigal Ratner-Arias:
Tell me a little to start. How did the – I know the radio concept and everything, but how did the name ‘Radio Güira’ come about? Why ‘Radio Güira’?

Juan Luis Guerra:
I was looking for a name that would attract attention and within them, Güira emerged. The güira is my favorite folk instrument and we thought ‘Radio Güira’ was going to attract a lot of attention. And we wanted to make a new concept with practically new music that we would not have done before. That’s where the name came from. Also, I used to have in the Dominican Republic a radio called ‘Radio Viva’ that had kind of the same concept this ‘Radio Güira’ has.

Sigal Ratner-Arias:
How did the EP idea arise? The idea of doing it as if presenting each song on a radio.
