Kesha’s celebrating her first release as a free woman, reflecting on her past and shutting down her haters. Kesha dropped “JOYRIDE” on the Fourth of July, her first song as an independent artist and she’s having fun while trolls are hating. She took to X and shared some snaps in a bikini saying in part. “to those who think you’re shaming me, you’re actually making me feel very powerful.” Kesha also celebrated “Praying” seven year anniversary, tweeting, “as i race like a madman into this iconic chapter of my life, i can’t help but appreciate how hard this joy has been fought for.” And when she’s not celebrating her new release with Beverly Hills housewives, she’s celebrating other women in music. Kesha posted a video on TikTok using Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” with the caption, “proud to be a woman in music.” Girls keep the hits coming this summer.

In today’s episode of ‘How It Went Down,’ Tinashe reveals how she created “Nasty,” from the beat to the music video. She shares her reactions to the memes and the song’s virality, discusses whether she’s found someone to “match her freak,” and more!

Tinashe:

Hey, I’m Tinashe and this is How It Went Down for my song “Nasty.” I really wanted to create a song that was fun, that had this confident energy about it. So I thought that there was no better song than to write something that kind of came from this persona that I’ve created in my mind. Nasty Nashe is this character that I like to tap into when I’m feeling really confident and braggadocious and hot and sexy. So I wanted to write a song from that perspective, that kind of felt like that. So I thought, why not just write a song named “Nasty.” The session for “Nasty” happened over a couple of times. The first session that we did, we worked on the beat with Ricky Reed made this kind of two chord section that went from this minor chord to this major chord section, which I really loved. I took that beat home with me and just kind of started thinking about ideas. And then I was driving in my car and I was recording myself singing and vibing and free-styling on the beats. And then all of a sudden, I came up with “I’ve been a nasty girl, nasty. Is somebody gonna match my freak?” It really just felt instinctual. It was just something that kind of came to me at the time. So I listened to that recording, I took it to the studio and I was like, I think I got an idea. When I’m in the studio, I like to be comfortable. I like to be just in my zone. I don’t want too many distractions.

Lia of ITZY got emotional rejoining the group ahead of their next comeback. Fans were treated to a surprise when Lia made an appearance with a new ‘do during their fift- anniversary livestream, and JYP Entertainment released a statement on the group’s official app sync. “After careful discussion with Lia, we decided to return to activities, starting with ITZY’s new album, which is scheduled to be released in the second half of the year, but the crew will complete any planned events with the current four members until their new album.”

Lia’s been on a hiatus from the group since September, missing their latest mini album, Born to Be, and their world tour. JYP said she was prioritizing her mental health, and now Lia’s symptoms of tension and anxiety have improved a lot through treatment and rest.

So congrats, Lia. We’re looking forward to your comeback.

Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 Countdown for July 13, 2024 | Billboard News

Will Shaboozey finally get his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1?

Tetris Kelly:
There’s a new top 10 and No. 1 in this week’s Billboard Hot 100 top 10 for the week dated July 13. Chappell Roan blasts into the top 10 at No. 10. Teddy Swims is still at last week’s No. 9. As is Benson Boone at No. 8 and “Too Sweet” at No. 7.

“Please Please Please” falls a spot to six. “Million Dollar Baby” is up to five. “Espresso” is still at four, as Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” holds at three. Post and Morgan fall from last week’s No. 1 spot.

And grabbing his first ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 is Shaboozey with “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”

Benson Boone is living the dream. The pop-rock artist has been a staple on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Beautiful Things” since its debut, and recently opened for Taylor Swift for one of the London stops of The Eras Tour. But who is Benson Boone? How did he get his start? And how did he become a Hot 100 success? This is Billboard Explains: Benson Boone’s Beautiful Chart Success. Hailing from Monroe, Washington, Benson didn’t discover his voice and love of music until high school. His best friend asked him to play the piano in their school’s battle of the bands competition after the lead singer dropped out. Benson filled in and that decision undoubtedly altered the course of his life. He then went on to audition for American Idol, where he received a standing ovation from judges and Katy Perry gave him the ultimate compliment. Benson ultimately decided to drop out of the competition to pursue music on his own. He went on to sign to Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds’ record label Night Street Records. Then, Benson made his Billboard chart debut at No. 33 on the Emerging Artists chart in October 2021. He earned his first Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Ghost Town,” peaking at No. 100. Next came “In the Stars,” his second Hot 100 hit. The song reached No. 82 and broke into the top 50 on the Global 200.

Taking Back Sunday’s Adam Lazzara: Performing Live Is ‘Better Than Any Therapy I’ve Found’

Performing live is good for Adam Lazzara’s soul. The Taking Back Sunday singer tells Billboard’s Behind the Setlist podcast that shutting out the world and losing his sense of time while on stage lifts mental and emotional weight. “If you can do that again and again and again,” Lazzara says as he exhales deeply, “it’s better than any therapy I’ve found — and I’ve tried a lot.”

On the road this summer to support the band’s latest album, 152, Lazzara has learned how to take better care of himself to endure the rigors of being on the road. Taking Back Sunday’s backstage rider now includes healthier snacks like melons, trail mix instead of Oreo cookies, and coffee. “And then water,” he says from a tour stop in sun-scorched Arizona. “There’s so much water everywhere that it’s just wonderful.”

Lazzara’s mindset was different in his younger years when Taking Back Sunday was establishing itself as a preeminent rock band and had five albums chart in the top 20 of the Billboard 200: Where You Want to Be (2004), Louder Now (2006), New Again (2009), Taking Back Sunday (2011) and Happiness Is (2014). He says he would call the band’s longtime agent Matt Galle [formerly with Paradigm and now with CAA] and ask him to put them on the road for extended periods. “We don’t care for [being] home,” Lazzara would say. “Keep us busy. Keep us working.”

For the current tour, though, the band decided not to tour for more than four or five weeks without a break. Anything longer and “reality changes,” says Lazzara, making the transition from touring artist to family man more difficult. “As the kids get older, the harder it is to be gone and to miss things.”

Taking Back Sunday is taking a break from late June to late July before resuming the tour — with Citizen as the supporting act — in Pittsburgh on July 24. The band winds through the Northeast and into Canada for Toronto’s Festival of Beers on July 28 before returning to the States on July 30 in Newport, KY, and heading down to Lake Buena Vista, FL, on Aug. 1. That string of shows ends in New York City on Aug. 18. Then the band travels to Los Angeles to play the Greek Theatre on Aug. 21. 

The final tour dates currently scheduled are Riot Fest in Chicago from Sept. 20-22 and the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas on Oct. 19-20. At the end of the year, says Lazzara, the band will keep with tradition and perform holiday shows on Long Island, NY, and in New Jersey. “We’re doing those for sure,” he says.

After songwriting for prolific artists including Beyoncé and Victoria Monét, Lucky Daye took the plunge to transition to being a solo artist in 2019. Darius Rucker told Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast that he thinks Morgan Wallen should be forgiven for being caught using the N word multiple times back in 2021.

Darius Rucker:

Do I think Morgan’s become a better person since that? I know Morgan Wallen since all that happened? You know, Morgan tried to really better himself and become a better person and see the world in a much better, better way.

Tetris Kelly:

Darius pointed out how Morgan didn’t get nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the CMA’s or the ACM’s, but he has broken chart records on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 and currently holds the top spot on the Hot 100, so listeners seem to have forgiven him. Speaking of the Hot 100 Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” sits at No. 2. But could he surpass Morgan and Post Malone next week? Thanks to a huge performance where he brought out J-KWON at the BET Awards and an increase in radio play, he’s got better odds. We’ll find out for sure on Monday. Also entering the country space is Quavo. His new song with Lana Del Rey, “Tough,” not only brings the backroad vibes, they get pretty sensual in the video, too. Which country track are you bumping? My favorite boys are taking us on a trip and it’s all going down on Disney+, and Jin is going to the Olympics. This is your BTS news. So after BTS tweeted this cryptic video that had all ARMY shook, we eventually found out all our dreams came true and we had Jimin & Jung Kook coming to our TV screen. The BTS stars are set to release a new travel reality show together on August 8, titled ‘Are You Sure?,’ exclusively on Disney+. The eight-part series, which was filmed in 2023 before the duo enlisted in the South Korean military, follows Jimin & Jung Kook as they traveled to three iconic global destinations: New York, USA; Jeju Island, South Korea; and Sapporo, Japan. And we’re also headed to France, as it was just announced that Mr. Worldwide Handsome Jin will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay as a torchbearer for South Korea. While specifics have yet to be revealed, Jin’s relay aims to spread the message of harmony and peace this year. The Olympics will begin on July 26.
