When you’re in a girl band, everybody just tries to compare you. It’s just natural. So you kind of have to get used to that. But we had each other to support each other through everything. So, you know, this is essentially me starting again so I don’t even know yet what it feels like, fame wise, on my own.

We are so excited to have you and so excited to dive into your new era and new song called “Angel of My Dreams.” Can you tell us about the song? What was the inspiration behind it?

​​Jade:
“Angel of My Dreams,” I would say is about my kind of love/hate relationship with the music industry which, as you know, I’ve been a part of for quite some time. So I have a lot to say about that — good and bad. “Angel of My Dreams” is kind of like a love letter to the industry of how obsessed I am with it, how much I love it. But with that comes, you know, some trials and tribulations. 

Meghan Mahar:
Did you know that this was going to be the single as soon as you wrote it? 

​​Jade:
I’ve been writing for, like, two and a half years. I knew I hadn’t quite landed on the song yet.

I did not just try to lie about my age like that. I’m definitely 25, I’m about to be 26. I started rapping in like eight years old for real. What was I rapping about? I was rapping about like haters in school. And my daddy had like a whole bunch of like old school cars and like I was probably like, my daddy picked me up from school in that candy paint don’t. I feel like eight year old me was more cocky than I am now. My sound today I feel like is very southern rooted, no shade it’s not a viral sensation.

Britney Spears has snapped back at the Osbourne family after Ozzy said he’s tired of her dancing videos on Instagram. Let’s break it down. On the Osbourne’s podcast the family had a little bit to say about the legendary Miss Britney Spears. With Ozzy stating, “I’m fed up of seeing poor old Britney Spears on YouTube.” Britney heard and jumped on IG comparing herself to Kate Beckinsale saying: “I realized how incredibly cruel people were talking about her IG saying she needs more age appropriate content… she’s in her fifties and I thought it was pretty badass how she responded with a mini bow in her hair looking literally 4 years old!!!! Not as bad as some of my comments saying it’s sad that I’m as old as I am and I’m dancing every single day on my IG !!!! Number 1) I hardly ever dance …. And number 2) I’m not poor at all !!! Here Are Charli XCX’s Billboard Covers & Photos Over the Past Decade

Charli XCX is Billboard’s latest cover star — but she’s no stranger to gracing our magazine.

The “360” star has been on the cover two other times, in 2014 and 2017. She’s also been part of several photoshoots related to Billboard’s annual Women in Music event. In 2014, she accepted the Hitmaker Award and, in 2023, she took home the Powerhouse Award.

Her most recent cover story comes a little more than a month after the “Von Dutch” singer dropped her critically acclaimed album Brat, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 — her highest peak on the chart to date — as well as inspired a wave of new internet trends.

“I didn’t want any metaphors — like, at all,” Charli tells Billboard of the project. “I wanted this record to feel like I was having a conversation with the listener in a true way. I could say that to you in the back of a cab on the way to a club. Like tonight? I want to dance with A. G.”

She added, “With Brat, it was really interesting to just do things for the fan base and make that feel exclusive — but then once you’re in the club, it’s actually very inclusive. Actually, everyone can join the club. It’s just that everybody joins at slightly different times in slightly different ways — whether that be on my private Instagram posts, or the 400-person Boiler Room, or a random cinema screening of a new music video in L.A., or a text message from me.”

Train’s Pat Monahan Goes Inside the Band’s Recent Setlists on Tour With REO Speedwagon

If you see Train perform live, odds are the last song is going to be “Drops of Jupiter,” the hit single from the band’s 2001 album of the same name. 

“When people hear it, it becomes sad because they know that that’s the end [of the show],” singer Pat Monahan tells Billboard‘s Behind the Setlist podcast. “But we’re not gonna play something after that song. That song means the world to me for a lot of personal reasons, and it was a big song around the world.”

Indeed, “Drops of Jupiter,” which Monahan wrote about his late mother, reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001 — the band’s second-best chart performance behind “Hey Soul Sister,” which went to No. 3 in 2010.

On Train’s current tour with REO Speedwagon, fans are likely to hear familiar songs rather than deep cuts. Monahan explains the band occasionally opened with “We Were Made for This” from the 2012 album California 37 on its recent European tour. It wasn’t released as a single, nor does it have the upbeat energy bands typically want to launch a concert. Rather, “We Were Made for This” starts out slowly and kicks into high gear about two minutes into the song with a soaring guitar solo by Taylor Locke. The momentum subsides again before the band brings the song to an energetic climax.   

“The Train fans loved it,” he says, “but I don’t think it’s right for a tour with REO Speedwagon, you know. Because when they step off stage, people will have heard 35 hit songs.” 

In most of Train’s July shows throughout the Midwest, Monahan and his four bandmates — Locke, bass player Hector Maldonado, drummer Matt Musty and guitarist/keyboardist Jerry Becker — have been opening with “Calling All Angels,” the leadoff track from the 2003 album My Private Nation. It’s a well known song for sure — “Calling All Angeles” reached No. 19 on the Hot 100. “I’ve grown to think that a first song should be recognizable [and] high energy, but not your biggest song,” he says, “that you don’t want to burn the biggest ones at the top because I think people are still taking you in.”

The middle of the set slows the pace. “Marry Me” from 2009’s Save Me, San Francisco, lets the audience know “I have a band with amazing singers,” says Monahan. “Bruises” is a “country rock” song that fits well into the concert’s acoustic interlude. Train will frequently play Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which Monahan says is “a great transition” song that bridges the middle and latter part of the set that includes “Hey Soul Sister,” “Drive By,” a top 10 Hot 100 hit from 2012, and “Drops of Jupiter.”

When picking from Train’s vast catalog, Monahan thinks like a fan. He recalls a tour with Ben Folds Five, which had a hit in 1997 with the song “Brick.” “They’re a great band,” says Monahan, “but they avoided playing ‘Brick,’ because when they played ‘Brick,’ which was their hit, their fans got disappointed. And when they didn’t play ‘Brick,’ I got disappointed. I grew up wanting to sing along to the bands I loved, and so I don’t want to take that from Train fans.”

Great, amazing rapping, good features.

Stray Kids are heading to Marvel as their label ventures into Latin music, let’s dive in. The Billboard cover stars of Stray Kids are going to be appearing on the soundtrack for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The highly anticipated movie is hitting theaters on July 26th and with their new song, “Slash,” arriving on the soundtrack July 24th. And the band’s label, JYP Entertainment, tells Billboard they are launching a Latino music division that will be focused on developing artists for the Spanish language market. We can expect that to come together on an audition show called L2K that will “discover, train, and launch” the next global latin girl group. JYP’s audition show, A2K, aired in the U.S. last year and launched VCHA.
