Dotemu / Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Tribute Games is back in their beat’em up bag and offering comic book fans the most ambitious Marvel team-up event since Avengers: Endgame with its new game, Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

Coming out of Summer Game Fest, Marvel Cosmic Invasion was one of the many titles high on my list. Tribute Games holds a dear place in this beat’em up fanatic’s heart thanks to its other fantastic titles like Scott Pilgrim EX and another personal favorite, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge.

Many Marvel fans, myself included, have longed for a great beat’em up game featuring Marvel’s roster of heroes and villains, since it’s been a while since 1992’s X-Men: The Arcade Game.

Tribute Games has finally filled that void with Marvel Cosmic Invasion, which proves they got the sauce when it comes to making beat’em up games. Still, they also understood the assignment when delivering a game that pays homage to an iconic era of Marvel Comics.

A Comic Book Nerd’s Dream Game

DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion

We have all seen scenarios in the comics and films where all of your favorite Marvel superheroes can unite in one video game to take on a villain that is threatening the existence of the entire universe. Still, we have yet to experience that in a video game format.

That was until Marvel Cosmic Invasion. In the game, you get to choose from 15 superheroes, including Marvel OGs like Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Venom, Storm, Wolverine, and Phoenix, aka Jean Grey.

But as a bonus, Tribute Games decided to go deep in the Marvel vault by making characters like Rocket Raccoon, Phyla-Vell, Nova, Cosmic Ghost Rider (Frank Castle), Silver Surfer, and Beta Ray Bill.

On paper, it looks like a random selection of characters, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how they all fit into the game’s narrative, due to some of them having to be unlocked as you progress through the game’s story.

Speaking of the story, you won’t be taking on Thanos (even though he is in the game), but the big bad in Cosmic Invasion is none other than Annihilus and his Annihilation Wave, and the heroes unite to stop him in his tracks.

Throughout the game, you encounter other known Marvel villains like Beetle, Sentinels, Master Mold, M.O.D.O.K., and more who are under the control of Annihulus thanks to Arthrosian worms.

Cosmic Swapping Adds A New Element To The Beat ‘Em Up Gameplay

DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion

At its core, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a beat ’em up game, but Tribute Games always finds a way to add another layer to make its games more memorable.

Cosmic Invasion features a “Cosmic Swapping” feature that allows you to pull off combos by calling in the other character you selected with the press of a button. You can also do team-up attacks where both characters perform their ultimate attacks at the same time.

What I appreciate the most about the Cosmic Swapping feature is that it invites you to use your other character, rather than just sticking with your first choice until they are knocked out.

You can still play that way, but Cosmic Swapping makes you want to swap your characters in and out on the fly because it’s simply so cool, and also fun pulling off combinations.

No characters feel the same, with Tribute masterfully designing them to feel different to use, allowing for unique pairings that will result in flashy combos if you can time your swaps right.

Each level also has different challenges for you to complete, and they are tied to the characters in your roster. For example, the level involving the Sentinels, there are challenges for you to complete for Wolverine and Storm, because the Sentinels are known villains in the X-Men franchise.

It’s another feature tribute thrown in there to ensure you try out all of the characters.

Final Verdict

DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Marvel Cosmic Invasion doesn’t stray far from its beat ’em up DNA, but Tribute once again manages to deliver an experience that will leave you completely satisfied.

I couldn’t help but feel like I was playing an episode of my favorite Saturday morning cartoon, or the pages out of my favorite Marvel comic books.

The levels are gorgeous and chock full of easter eggs for you to find, and each character sprite from the heroes to the villains doesn’t lack in detail and jumps off the screen.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is an absolute blast to play alone or with friends. The challenge system on the levels will also keep you coming back, making its replayability reasonably high.

Cosmic Invasion is also a fun title to pick up and play on the go. It ran perfectly on my ROG Xbox Ally, so I’m assuming it will be just as fine on the Steam Deck.

If you’re looking for another pure beat ’em up experience, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is definitely worth checking out for $29.99. If you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’re in luck because it will be available on the service on Dec.1, so make sure you assemble all your friends to take down Annihilus and his minions.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion has been teasing new characters for months, but it never had a release date, until now.

MCI is HIGH on our list regarding games we can’t wait to play, especially after getting hands-on with the beat ’em up at Summer Game Fest.
Developer Tribute Games and publisher DOTEMU have been teasing the hell out of us, dropping numerous trailers, teasing the game’s expansive roster of heroes to choose from to save the Earth and universe from Annihilus and the other Marvel villains joining him on a quest for domination.
Today, Tribute Games dropped another trailer —a teaser — two more heroes we can play with — and also the information many, especially Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, have been screaming for: a blasted release date.
The Invincible Iron Man & Phoenix Join The Roster
First things first, joining the team of heroes will be Iron Man, voiced by Josh Keaton, who famously was Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series, and Phoenix (Jean Grey), voiced by Jennifer Hale, the actual voice of the character from the X-Men 97 Marvel Animation series on Disney+.
Per DOTEMU:
Bring the pain right to Annihilus’ doorstep with the X-Man formerly known as Marvel Girl as she uses her massive telekinetic powers to crush the insectoid invaders. Or tag Phoenix out to slip into the steel, er, iron-toed boots of Tony Stark as Invincible Iron Man, beating back Annihilus’ baneful bugs with your mighty repulsor blasts or by powering up the iconic Iron Cannon.
Now to the vital news: Marvel Cosmic Invasion will arrive this year, officially launching on Dec. 1, right on time for the holiday season.

Consider us officially hyped!

We are having a beat ’em up renaissance in the video game world, and Tribute Games is leading the charge. Their latest game, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, aims to continue that trend, and based on our experience at Summer Game Fest Play Days, the studio has another hit on its hands.

Tribute Games quickly rose on our list of favorite studios after the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. They are shifting from one popular IP, the Ninja Turtles, to deliver us another game involving popular characters from Marvel Comics’ lore with Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

This game was already high on our list when it was first announced, so you can imagine we were excited to get hands-on with it at Play Days. Let’s dive into our thoughts about our experience.

Before we proceed, let’s briefly explore the game’s plot. In Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Annihilus launches an attack that spreads across the galaxy, and it’s up to you and whichever two heroes you select to travel across Earth and beyond to stop the Annihilation Wave.
If that sounds familiar, Marvel aficionados will easily point out that the game’s plot is based on the Annihilation comic book run.
Cosmic Swap Is An Instant Game-Changer In Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Source: DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Right off the bat, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is already on a different level with its inclusion of our favorite Marvel superheroes. Still, what truly sets this game apart from games like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is the new character swapping feature called “Cosmic Swap.”
Immediately, we came to appreciate it because it’s hard to choose from the list of heroes, which so far includes Storm, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Nova, She-Hulk, Rocket Raccoon, Captain America, Venom, and Phyla-Vell.
Thanks to Cosmic Swap, that decision is made easier because you get to choose two characters to run with to take out Annihulus.
Now to the game, Cosmic Invasion isn’t just a typical beat ’em up; it has its own flair to the genre with the Cosmic Swap, which is a tag team function that you would find in most modern-day fighting games.

For our run, we played as Captain America and Spider-Man, and it felt seamless as we switched between the characters during the two stages we experienced during the brief but still meaty demo.
Source: DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Also, unlike other beat ’em up games, there seems to be more weight behind the attacks, and we appreciated that you could perform combos by knocking your opponents in the air, allowing your secondary character or another player to finish off an enemy to add some style to the game’s combat.
Other Fun Elements In Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Source: DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Like Shredder’s Revenge, Cosmic Invasion is a beautifully designed 2D experience featuring gorgeous animation that brings these heroes from the comic book pages to life, while showing appreciation for a style considered dated by today’s video game graphics standards.
The soundtrack in the game also impresses, adding to the chaotic yet enjoyable gameplay. Boss bottles are also challenging, requiring players to either work together with other players or skillfully utilize their character’s special moves in conjunction with kicks and punches to take out bosses like Taskmaster, who require teamwork to break his defenses, opening him up for attacks.
Overall Thoughts

Marvel Cosmic Invasion was one of the games we were already excited about before our preview. Getting hands-on with the game has only increased that anticipation.
Based on the sample size we experienced, Tribute Games and DOTEMU have another hit on their hands. With the addition of new characters, such as She-Hulk and Rocket Raccoon, this game could become one with high replayability over time.

Keep it locked on HHW Gaming for a full review of Marvel Cosmic Invasion ahead of the game’s release.

Source: EA/ Cliffhanger Games / Black Panther
That Black Panther standalone we were all excited for is no longer happening.
IGN broke the news that EA has taken away Cliffhanger Games’ heart-shaped herb and has cancelled one of the games Marvel fans have been eagerly anticipating since it was first announced back in July 2023.

According to the website, EA Entertainment President Laura Miele stated in an email that the recent changes, cancellations, and other moves were aimed at “sharpening our focus and putting our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”

The bad news for the gaming industry doesn’t stop there, EA is also laying off an unspecified number of workers on both mobile and central teams. IGN reports that EA declined to comment on the specific number but believes, while not confirming that the number is less than the roughly 300 employees let go last month across Respawn and EA’s Fan Care teams.
“These decisions are hard,” said Miele. “They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.”
Gamers Are Sad About Black Panther’s Cancellation & Layoffs At EA
As you can imagine, the gaming community isn’t taking this news very well.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. First Wonder Woman (a female led game) gets cancelled and now Black Panther (a poc led game) gets cancelled, and neither of them ever had a video game before. This really is Trvmp’s America…” one post on X, formerly Twitter, read.
“more layoffs as the Black Panther game cancelled and the studio closed it keeps getting worse :(,” Kinda Funny and GamerTag Radio’s Parris Lilly said.

While we are not getting the Black Panther game, EA says it is still committed to bringing us that Iron Man game currently being developed by Motive, and will focus on Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends.
What a sad time to be a gamer and Marvel fan, just saying.
The video game streets are still talking; you can see those reactions below.

1. These people are straight up losers

With all the hype and anticipation amongst Marvel fans for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Beginning, many people forget that another Spider-Man film is on the way starring Nicolas Cage (no, seriously), and though details are scarce, we’ve finally gotten our first look at Cage in his Spidey suit. He looks pretty damn dope too.

According to Variety, Amazon’s Prime Video released their first pic of Nicolas Cage dressed as Spider-Man for their upcoming series, Spider-Noir. And truth be told, it looks very well done. After voicing the same Spider-Man variant in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Cage will once again be playing the character in a live-action adaptation of the Spider-Man Noir comic books. Set in 1930s New York, this alternate version of Spider-Man does have a faithful following. Judging from the first pics of the upcoming series, it’ll be going down the black-and-white cinematic setting similar to the cult classic film, Sin City, but won’t be confined to just black-and-white.

Per Variety:

Releasing in 2026, “‘Spider-Noir’ tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” The show will be available in both black-and-white and color.

In addition to Cage, the cast includes Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Jack Huston. Guest star cast includes Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.

“Spider-Noir” will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel, then arrive globally on Prime video the next day.

Spider-Noir is set to debut sometime in 2026 and come in eight episodes deep. Will you be checking for Nicolas Cage’s iteration of Spider-Man? Let us know in the comments section below.

Ironheart, the highly anticipated miniseries starring Dominique Thorne as genius MIT student Riri Williams, is slated to launch this summer. Marvel dropped the official trailer for Ironheart on Wednesday (May 14), which details Riri Williams’ journey into superheroism after studying abroad in a famed African nation.
Dominique Thorn stars as Riri Williams, an MIT student from Chicago who is encountered by a mysterious figure known as The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos, who helps fund her mission to build an all-powerful armored suit similar to the suits created by the late Tony Stark, better known to the world as Iron Man.

The trailer shows The Hood testing Williams’ brilliance inside her makeshift laboratory, and later promising riches to make her dreams of building a super-suit come true. As it would happen, The Hood doesn’t seem to have the purest intentions for Williams, setting up a clash with Ironheart in the future.
The six-part series follows the action shortly after Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where we first encounter Williams after being recruited by the Dora Milaje’s top general, Okoye. Coogler also serves as an executive producer for the series, which also stars Lyric Ross as Williams’ friend Natalie Washington, and Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, among others.
Get the full cast and other details for Ironheart here. Check out the trailer below. The show’s first three episodes will be released on June 24.

We are still a long ways away from seeing what awaits the MCU’s version of Spider-Man following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While there are many unconfirmed rumors on what we can expect, we have gotten some information on who will be cast in the fourth installment to the highly successful Marvel franchise.

According to Deadline, Emmy winner Liza Colón-Zayas has been cast to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Her role remains a mystery, but we’re low-key hoping that The Bear‘s star actress will have some kind of connection to a certain Black and Puerto Rican superhero who’s become quite popular in the Marvel universe as a friendly neighborhood web slinger himself.

Still, this is just wishful thinking at this point, but regardless, Colón-Zayas is already joining a star-studded cast that has taken the Spider-Man franchise to a whole new level.

Deadline reports:

The Emmy winner joins an ensemble led by Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker and his superheroic alter ego, with Stranger Things‘ Sadie Sink also on board in a mystery role. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, who respectively play Peter’s love interest MJ and close friend Ned, are expected to return.

Destin Daniel Cretton will direct, with Amy Pascal producing alongside Marvel president Kevin Feige, when production kicks off later this year. Pic is scheduled to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to release two months after Avengers: Doomsday. According to numerous rumors, Brand New Day will take place after the events of Doomsday and will place Spidey in a post-Doomsday reality where worlds have collided and characters from numerous Marvel films find themselves in the same space and time.

That being said, rumors have circulated that this may mean that Tom Holland’s Spidey will finally get to meet Tom Hardy’s Venom. Other rumors have Steven Yeun being cast as Mr. Negative as the primary villain for Brand New Day, and as much as we love Yeun, that wouldn’t be too exciting for hardcore Spider-Man fans who’d rather see another classic villain make their film screen debut. Hobogoblin maybe? A better iteration of Carnage? A new Venom who’s actually a villain and not an anti-hero?

What would you like to see go down in Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Let us know in the comments section below.

Just when it seemed like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s popularity was dead in the water, Ryan Reynolds threw Marvel a much needed lifeline with his cult classic Deadpool & Wolverine and single-handedly resurrected interest in the struggling MCU.

Now that fans are once again on the Marvel bandwagon following the announcement of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, many have been wondering what the future holds for Deadpool and Wolverine going forward, and it seems like we might have finally gotten some answers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is quietly plotting his return in Marvel’s upcoming Mutant Saga (which is rumored to be the focus over the next 10 years at Marvel Studios) and his next Deadpool film may feature more X-Men along with Wolverine. There has been rumors being thrown around for some time now that Deadpool may introduce X-Force in his next film as Marvel Studios continues to round out the cast for their upcoming X-Men film. Though there’s no word on which mutant characters would make an appearance in Deadpool 3, it seems like decisions will be made sooner than later as the project is already in the beginning stages of being written.

Per The Hollywood Reporter:

Reynolds is exploring ideas for a Deadpool movie that would feature X-Men characters, as well as continuing to script the Paramount comedy Boy Band after making writing a priority for much of this year before tackling other obligations, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The multi-hyphenate is working on various treatments for an ensemble film featuring three or four X-Men characters. Deadpool would of course appear, but perhaps only as a supporting player. Reynolds is said to believe that keeping his f-bomb wielding anti-hero more on the sidelines could allow for the X-Men characters to be used in unexpected ways. Reynolds has been open about every Deadpool movie needing a strong reason to exist, and it’s possible this could provide the avenue he needs.

Truth be told we’ll have to wait to see how the everything pans out in the Marvel universe following the events of Doomsday and Secret Wars, which Deadpool and Wolverine are said to be a part of even though they haven’t been confirmed characters in the film as of yet.

As for Deadpool playing a supporting actor in his third installment, he’ll have to have some pretty popular mutant characters lead the film if that was to be the case. Either way we just want to see Deadpool standing alongside the Avengers or X-Men at some point, but even Reynolds admits that such a scenario may have some unexpected consequences.

At the time, Reynolds also told THR that he believed Deadpool could appear opposite the X-Men and the Avengers, but that the character joining those teams would have unintended consequences. “His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”

Nah, fans don’t want to see Deadpool’s journey come to an end anytime soon.

What do y’all want to see in a third Deadpool film? Let us know in the comments section below.

Marvel is back, even though it never really left. The official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has arrived and it’s loaded with all the comic delights that makes the MCU great and leaves movie fans begging for more.

A proper rendition of The Fantastic Four—Mister Fantastic aka Reed Richards (portayed by Pedro Pascal), the Invisible Woman aka Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), the Human Torch aka Johnny Storm (Joseph Queen aka dude from that last season of Stranger Things) and The Thing aka Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)—has had several attempts, and fails, but the 2025 version is a reset (well, a rero-futuristic take apparently) that’s shaping up like a proper represenation of the fan-favorite franchise.

We already saw the namesake heroes in the teaser but the trailer up the ante with our first looks at world-eater Galactus and his herald The Silver Surfer (portrayed by a woman, Julia Garner—that will surely get the panties of the toxic fanboys in a bunch). Later for those bozos, because these visual look stunning.

We also get to see Mr. Fantastic in action, and he manages to not look corny.

Watch the trailer for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps below as well as giddy social media reactions in the gallery. It hits theaters Juky 25, but feel free to move that date up, Marvel.

Emma Frost and her thick thighs in Marvel Rivals are definitely saving gamer’s lives.
Marvel Rivals is heating up once again with the arrival of season 2, The Hellfire Gala, and with it comes one of the newest playable characters, Emma Frost, or, as we nerds know her affectionately, the White Queen.

Marvel Rivals’ second season will also see a new map, Krakoa, the sentient living island.
A description for the new season reads:
“After the inaugural Hellfire Gala, the Mutants’ meticulously crafted fireworks show once again left us awestruck. Emma Frost’s telepathic projections seemed to materialize right before our eyes, as the barren landscape of Mars transformed into a thriving sanctuary housing Krakoa’s sister: Arakko. In that electrifying moment, we decisively welcomed both the Hellfire Gala and Arakko into Marvel Rivals, ushering in a plan for new heroes, epic maps, and an entirely fresh series of costumes.”

NetEase isn’t shy when making the characters attractive in Marvel Rivals, but Frost has activated the BIG HORNY alt in gamers following the release of her trailer.
Instantly, many players began comparing Frost’s look to that of Chun-Li, who’s been the thigh queen of the video game world for years. A new challenger in Emma Frost has arrived and is currently the talk of the gamer world.

Since her unveiling, the comments have been rolling, and they are pure virtual thirst. “Crush me with your thighs, Emma Frost,” one post on X, formerly Twitter, read.
“Emma Frost has thighs so thick that solo tanking will be a thing of the past in Marvel Rivals,” another post read.
Grass needs to be touched immediately, lol.
You can see more reactions in the gallery below.
