Latin Music Week 2024

Eslabon Armado received a special recognition during the Una Noche de Música Mexicana event — part of Billboard Latin Music Week 2024 — on Wednesday night (Oct. 16), for taking their song “Ella Baila Sola” to No. 1 globally. The group received the award from Pedro Zamora, CEO of the entertainment company Zamora Live, and Rosy Oros, director of Iconos magazine, in the presence of Leila Cobo, Billboard‘s chief content officer for Latin/Spanish.

The Azteca nightclub in South Beach served as the venue where emerging artists from independent labels Vizual and Infinifox also performed.

Vizual, the company led by Víctor Zambrano, a renowned producer of regional Mexican music who was instrumental in the rise of Carin León, introduced the audience to Héctor Rubio, one of the new promises of corridos tumbados. Rubio recently joined Peso Pluma, with whom he collaborated in “Se Volvieron Locos,” on 10 dates of the Mexican star Exodus Tour. He has also written songs performed by artists such as Alex Favela, Grupo Selectivo, Octavio Cuadras and Yeri Mua.

Also from Vizual, Arsenal Efectivo showcased their unique blending style of trap and corridos. The Mexican-American band started in 2015 and shortly after their debut album, En La Fuga, reached the top 10 on Billboard‘s Regional Mexican Albums chart.

Infinifox also presented two of its talents, one of them Juan Carlos “El Conde,” who has written songs for acts such as Banda MS and Chuy Lizárraga. El Conde’s offer includes romantic songs accompanied by band and mariachi as well as an equestrian show, as he is an expert in charrería. He recently released the song “A Rienda Suelta,” a collaboration with Bronco’s vocalist Lupe Esparza, which he performed solo at Una Noche de Música Mexicana.

The cumbia group La Sonora Vainilla added a cheerful touch to the night with their versatility. Formed in Jalisco, Mexico, they have established in the U.S., where they continue to gain followers.

Una Noche de Música Mexicana was a journey through different musical currents, from trap, to corridos tumbados, traditional styles, and even cumbia. The event was organized by Zamora Entertainment and Zamora Live, companies headed by Pedro Zamora, who was recently included in the Billboard Latin Power Players list. A major promoter of regional Mexican music for nearly 30 years, he also serves currently as president of the association Promotores Unidos USA. Based in New York, he has dedicated his life to creating shows to present Mexican artists.

Feid, Eden Muñoz, La Joaqui, Keityn, Peso Pluma, Young Miko, Belinda and many more were among the countless Latin music stars who took center stage in Miami for the 2024 edition of Billboard Latin Music Week, held Oct. 14-18.Some of the biggest names in Latin music made their way The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Center in Miami Beach for exclusive conversations, performances, panels and to pose for the photobooth — with photographer David Cabrera behind the lens — as part of the weeklong event.
Artists including J Balvin, Pepe Aguilar, Young Miko and Alejandro Sanz took centerstage for one-on-one conversations for respective Icon and Superstar Q&As. Other returning panels included Making the Hit Live!, this year featuring Grupo Frontera, and the Women’s Panel with artists Bad Gyal, Belinda, Danna, Debi Nova, Mon Laferte and Zhamira Zambrano.
Over the past 35 years, Latin Music Week has become the one, steady foundation of Latin music in this country, becoming the single most important — and biggest — gathering of Latin artists and industry executives in the world. Initially named Latin Music Seminar, sponsored by Billboard, the event traces back to 1990, where it kicked off as a one-day event in Miami featuring a two-artist showcase and awards show.
Throughout the years, it has taken place in Miami, Las Vegas and Puerto Rico, returning to Miami Beach for a fourth consecutive year in 2024, and has welcomed some of the biggest Latin acts including Celia Cruz, Selena, Ricky Martin, Chayanne, Jenni Rivera, Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Bad Bunny, and Romeo Santos. Latin Music Week coincides with the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards set to air at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 20, on Telemundo. On one of the most notable nights of Billboard Latin Music Week 2024, Peso Pluma presented the prestigious Executive of the Year award to George Prajin, his manager and partner, to whom he dedicated an emotional and moving speech. Prajin, founder of Prajin Parlay and co-founder/COO of Double P Records, has been instrumental in Peso Pluma’s successful career. And during his speech, the artist revealed the deep personal and professional relationship that unites them.

After being introduced by Leila Cobo, Billboard’s content director for Latin/Español, the Mexican music superstar was moved to tears as he delivered his emotionally charged remarks during the private Latin Music Power Players 2024 event held in Miami Beach on Oct. 14. “You are the best person I have ever met in my life,” he said.

Peso highlighted Prajin’s tireless work, noting that he is a paternal figure in the artist’s life: “I told him yesterday coming into confidence, that I had, like, three dads in my life, and one of them is him. And you will always be, George. I love you like a father and you will always be that to me.”

“The talent and sacrifice that we put in is one thing, and all the doors that you have opened for us, and all the things that you have done so that we can have an opportunity to show ourselves as greats before other exponents of music and the industry, have been very important not only for me and for you as a person, but for an entire country, an entire generation,” he continued.

Billboard‘s Latin Power Players Executive of the Year award celebrates those leaders whose vision and strategies have left a significant mark on the music industry over the past year. In this case, Prajin has been recognized not only for his role in the artistic development of Peso Pluma, but also for his broader impact on Latin music. Under his leadership, Double P Records has been instrumental in consolidating new talent and creating innovative strategies to penetrate global markets, raising the profile of Mexican music.

Here is Peso Pluma’s full speech:

First, I want to thank you, George. I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me, and not just for me, but for my family, for the whole band, for everything you’ve done for each and every one of us. The talent and sacrifice that we put in is one thing, and all the doors that you’ve opened for us, and all the things that you’ve done so that we can have an opportunity to show ourselves as greats to other exponents of music and the industry, have been very important not only for me and for you as a person, but for an entire country, an entire generation.

I just want to thank you for so much, for everything that you’ve given me. If it hadn’t been for you, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. If it hadn’t been for you, I wouldn’t have the things that I have now, and if it hadn’t been for you, many of the things that are happening to us together wouldn’t have happened. I want to let everyone here in this room know that George … I told him yesterday in confidence … it’s hard … I get nervous here with you, and I don’t get nervous when I’m in front of 20,000, 15,000 people. It’s hard not to have a broken voice when these things happen, but today is about you. Today I want to congratulate you for everything you’ve achieved in your career as a professional, not just in music, as a lawyer, as a person … you are a great human being.

You are the best person I’ve ever met in my path and in my life. You’ve helped me make the best financial, work and personal decisions. And I told him yesterday, in confidence, that I had, like, three dads in my life, and one of them is him, and you always will be, George. I love you like my father, and you always will be. Thank you very much, Leila, for giving me the space, and for giving me the time to be able to say these words. I’m not a person who navigates a script; I say what I feel and what comes from my heart at the moment. And I just want to say congratulations, George, and thank you. You are the f–king executive of the year.”

Latin music, the term assigned to music performed predominantly in Spanish, is the fastest growing “genre” of music both in the U.S. and worldwide, with Latin acts –- from Bad Bunny to Karol G to Annita and Shakira — dominating both charts and headlines. But it wasn’t always like that: From its initial heyday in the 1950s, when Latin dances like mambo and cha-cha-cha were all the craze, Latin music’s popularity has ebbed and flowed. But for the last 35 years, at least, there has been two constants: the Billboard Latin charts and Billboard Latin Music Week.

What is now the single most important, and biggest, gathering of Latin artists and industry executives in the world, has been the one, steady foundation of Latin music in this country and for the world. Every single artist of note has spoken or performed at Latin Music Week through the years: Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Selena, Jenni Rivera, Marc Anthony, Chayanne, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Romeo Santos, Don Omar, Camilo, Bizarrap, Carin León, Grupo Firme, Peso Pluma, Luis Fonsi, Christina Aguilera, Wisin, J Quiles, Gloria Trevi… The list goes on and on.

This year’s Latin Music Week, taking place October 14-18 at the Fillmore Miami Beach, will feature superstar speakers J Balvin, Young Miko, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, Peso Pluma, JOP (Fuerza Regida), Eden Muñoz, Bad Gyal, Mon Laferte,Thalia and Maria Becerra among many others. But Billboard’s history of stellar appearances is 35 years deep. Here are some outstanding moments in the Billboard’s Latin Music Week 35-year history.

The event, which last year featured superstar Q&As with the likes of Shakira and Fonseca and in-depth panels anchored by Peso Pluma, Wisin, Fuerza Regida, Young Miko, Nicky Jam, Arcangel, Ivy Queen and Myke Towers, among others, is known as the top gathering place for the most influential and impactful artists today, both established and emerging, as well as the ultimate meeting ground for top music executives.

“We’ve created the single most important event in Latin music and the only gathering place for top artists to come together in art, conversation, and creativity,” says Leila Cobo, chief content officer of Billboard Latin/Español. “We’re thrilled to be returning to Miami to celebrate this over three-decade-long legacy, and we look forward to announcing this year’s roster of superstars, executives, and rising talent.”

Marquee panels included Latin Music Week’s now-iconic Women’s Panel and “Making the Hit Live,” which last year featured Pedro Capó and Carin León, who wrote a song live that was released on Sony Music.
