Austin Rivers is not happy with Hulu’s original series Clipped or the casting choices for the roles of members of the Los Angeles Clippers during Donald Sterling’s tenure as owner.
In a recent episode of his The Offguard Podcast, former NBA player turned ESPN NBA analyst expressed his frustration with the actors chosen to play his NBA brethren in Clipped.
The Hulu series is based on the ESPN 30 For 30 podcast, The Sterling Affairs, which focuses on the turmoil following the Clippers’ former owner being recorded by his mistress saying derogatory racial remarks.
In a clip shared on Instgram, Rivers goes ham on the actor cast to play Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry: “That is Stephen Santiago. That’s, like, the third baseman for the Padres. Who the hell is that guy?”
The actor who plays Blake Griffin in the series also caught a vicious stray from Rivers. “This is really bad. The guy’s hairline’s receding already, and he looks just nothing like Blake.”
P-Valley star J. Alphonse Nicholson’s portrayal of the “point god,” Chris Paul, did not win over Rivers either. “That is my local A/C man, Frederick. Who is this? Who the hell is that?”
Damn, that’s how you doing, the man who plays Lil Murda to perfection?
Austin Rivers Spares Laurence Fishburne
Sheldon Bailey, who plays DeAndre Jordan in the series, was not spared from Rivers’s ire either. “There’s no effort in this. That looks nothing like DJ.”
One person who did not catch that much flack for his performance in the show, outside of his body weight, was Laurence Fishburne. He happens to be portraying Austin Rivers’s dad, Doc Rivers, who was the Clippers head coach during the drama with Donald Sterling.
“Laurence Fishburne is a legend, and he’s a great actor,” Rivers said. “The body of my father is just a little bit different. I’m not saying he’s 100% in shape, but he’s built a little different than Laurence Fishburne. We could’ve done a little AI or something there.”
Fishburne spoke about his portrayal of Doc Rivers on a recent episode of the Dan Patrick Show revealing he had no idea who Rivers was before he got the role.
Luke James Dunks On Austin Rivers
One person who was not here for Austin Rivers’ hate was singer/actor Luke James, who had time for the former pro hooper.
“The series is great. casting is solid. u niggas should make a series. cast all the giant none acting ass niggas in it. see how it fairs out. i’m sure all these folks in agreement w/u will love it,” James wrote in the post’s comment section.
We can’t be mad at that.

A new documentary series on Hulu highlights the impact of Black Twitter on popular culture through the eyes of some of its most notable users.
On Thursday (May 9), the highly anticipated documentary series Black Twitter: A People’s History premiered on Hulu. The series is an in-depth look at the community of Black users and their seismic impact on what is now X, formerly Twitter before its acquisition by tech billionaire Elon Musk from founders Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone. They convey the spirit of what being involved with Black Twitter was like and how those involved helped to inform when it came to topics such as police brutality as well as help spark the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, which is covered in the second and third episodes. “We repurposed Twitter the way we repurposed chitlins,” says writer Baratunde Thurston.
Prentice Penny, who directs the series, manages to intersperse tons of those funny moments (encapsulated in clips and hashtags in between users recounting how Twitter helped them cope and rage during the uprisings in Ferguson, Missouri, and the murder of George Floyd. They also talk about the company’s constant failings of its users as well as Musk’s dogged determination to ultimately own the platform, providing a searing look at how his machinations like allowing white supremacists like Nick Fuentes back on have helped to erode a space that was prized by Black people online and shift its energy to other places, especially TikTok.

Jeezy and Common take part in a new documentary examining Hip-Hop’s journey to being embraced on the American political landscape.
As the 2024 presidential election season is in full swing, a new documentary is set to debut with a focus on the relationship that Hip-Hop culture now has with politics. Hip-Hop And The White House is a new feature that examines the journey of the culture’s acceptance by the executive branch of the nation, with prominent artists such as Jeezy and Common appearing to share their perspectives. The film is produced by &360, an anthology franchise created by Andscape, the multimedia platform created by ESPN and Disney to focus on the major contributions of Black people to American society.

Hip-Hop And The White House will also feature notable figures such as U.S. Representative Maxine Waters, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, YG, Bakari Kitwana, Farai Chideya, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Curren$y, Dave “Davey D” Cook, Grandmaster Caz and more. Jesse Washington, who is also an executive producer of the documentary along with Jeezy, is directing. Other producers include Dwayne Bray, Jason Aidoo, Jordan Benston, Mary Almonte, Steve Reiss and Ernest Dukes.
Jeezy spoke at length about the documentary in a recent interview with MSNBC host and analyst Ari Melber. “This documentary was to educate people on how much our impact and our influence is needed in this country,” he began. “Because if you want to talk to Black and brown people, you got to talk through them. And we are the ones that are the translators, you can’t talk directly to them unless you come to one of us, whoever that may be.”
The Church In These Streets rapper continued: “I think that’s something that everybody should be able to understand, that this is not just violence when we talk about this…when you think about, you know, everything that comes along with Hip-Hop is always negative. We do positive stuff as well. We actually are able to speak to our people, mobilize our people. I think that’s important.”
Hip-Hop And The White House will make its premiere on Hulu on April 22. Check out the trailer above.

Four decades into a career which has had its ups, downs, health problems, and bandmates bail, Jon Bon Jovi hasn’t lost his enthusiasm for storytelling. On Wednesday (April 10), the Rock Hall-inducted Bon Jovi band leader made the long haul to Los Angeles for a long overdue chat on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Just weeks out from the release on Hulu of the documentary Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, there was a lot of ground to cover. Bon Jovi was in the mood to go all the way back, with several anecdotes that you couldn’t make up, and give a glimpse into the future of Bon Jovi. In one of the stranger recollections, the New Jersey icon told of a first-up meeting with Michael Jackson at the late singer’s hotel in Tokyo. Connections were made, all went well and figuring they were now besties, Bon Jovi invited MJ downstairs to the band’s room. The King of Pop didn’t come, but he did send Bubbles the chimp as his representative. “Bubbles comes down and wreaks havoc. Bubbles parties like a rock star. Bubbles showed up, he hung hard,” was how Bon Jovi remembers it. For how long did the primate swing with the band? Long enough for hotel management to threaten to expel the lot of them.Playing the role of a raconteur taking a trip down memory lane, Bon Jovi recounts his first recording, earning $183 to play R2-D2 singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” on a Star Wars Christmas album. The singer also confirmed his buddy routine with fellow Jersey legend Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi’s high-school hero. They take long drives. “No radio, no phones no body, we’ll go for 100 miles where the two of us can lock the doors and go for a ride and talk, and catchup,” he says. There’s been sightings, word is out. Though Bovi Jovi remarks that he’s still waiting for a cop to pull them over and get the shock of his or her life. The rocker also explained how he did his own promo for the band’s first hit “Runaway” by putting the record in the hands of hungry disc jockeys; finding a novel solution when 500,000 copies of the original, risqué artwork for Slippery When Wet, the first of the band’s six leaders on the Billboard 200, were destroyed (“it worked for Back In Black. Let’s just give then a black album cover,” he explains, noting it was his finger that wrote out the words); his obsession with collecting; and how he got his hands on his first guitar, buying it back this year from a guy from the neighborhood. With the old axe in his hands, Bon Jovi wrote the song “I’m In Love With My First Guitar,” which will appear on the group’s next, 16th studio album, Forever, due out June 7. “This new record is about finding joy in simple things like that,” he explains.
