Remember the summer of 2020 when Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP” was inescapable? The first female rap collaboration to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 had the nation (and the world) entranced, even as the true meaning of the acronym resulted in some embarrassed mumbling when grannies asked us what it stood for.

The latter might explain why the dynamic duo didn’t submit the song for Grammy consideration that year. In fact, during a sit down with Jason Lee for his REVOLT show this week, Cardi — never shy about sharing her most intimate feelings and thoughts online — said she held the song back because she was worried about what the internet would say.

“You know what? This is something that — it’s like, I need to stop letting the internet control my life,” Cardi told Lee. “Because I didn’t want to submit ‘WAP’ because I was afraid that if I win or if I… You know what’s so crazy? The internet got me even afraid of winning. That is insane.”

Lee said when he heard that Cardi was shy about submitting the sex-positive anthem for potential Grammy gold, “I wanted to jump through the phone and scream at you. Because what I loved about this song is that it united two superstars.” The song, which was Cardi’s fourth No. 1 and Megan’s second in the U.S., spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and became the first No. 1 on the inaugural Billboard Global 200.

Just days after launching an OnlyFans to help kick off her year-long Hotter Than Hell multi-media project, Iggy Azalea is tamping down rumors about how much her paywalled site raked in on day one. After a report that she earned $307,000 in the first 24 hours, Iggy took to Twitter to throw cold water on that hot figure.

“Lol, Y’all just be saying s–t to say s–t at this point cause that number was pulled outta thin air,” she said of the gaudy number the rapper claimed was totally fake news. In a second tweet Azalea further explained, “With love. I won’t share what I make on OF, in the same way I didn’t share what I earned selling my music catalog. amounts being reported don’t come from a valid source. Thanks to everyone supporting me. Crazy excited for where things go! Hot ass summer on the way!”

In November, Billboard reported that Azalea sold her master recording and publishing catalog to Domain Capital for an eight-figure sum, according to a source close to the deal. The wide reaching deal included 100% of Azalea’s share of her existing catalog, including No. 1 hit “Fancy” (featuring Charli XCX), “Black Widow” (featuring Rita Ora), and “Problem” (with Ariana Grande), and it included “an additional trigger” for Azalea to earn future revenue on master recordings.

According to a statement about Azalea’s Hotter project, it will encompass illustration, poetry, photography, video, music and her fourth studio album. The roll-out kicked off with the launch of her “Hotter Than Hell X OnlyFans,” a $25-per-month subscription deal that promises “first-look access and exclusive content from the project,” which is slated to wrap up in December with the release of a coffee table book.

Friday’s (Jan. 13) press release also promised that Hotter will be a “creative, colorful, tongue-in-cheek fun and unapologetically hot. The project takes visual inspiration from the supermodels of the 90s, Pamela Anderson, the conception of the centerfold model, sexuality and its differing viewpoints between men and women, and Madonna’s book Sex. It is a collaborative project and features exclusive collaborations with producers, visual artists, and fashion photographers.” At press time a release date for the album had not yet been announced.

James was in a “serious two-car accident” in his hometown of Detroit on Monday (Jan. 9), the record label says.

“Boldy arrived at the hospital in critical condition, suffering from broken vertebrae in his neck and orthopedic injuries,” a statement released on Saturday reads. “After undergoing extensive surgery on his neck, Boldy has been removed from the intensive care unit and is now in stable condition.”

“Boldy and his family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses that are taking care of him, and also to the communities’ emergency personnel and first responders,” the statement says.

The prolific rapper, who’s collaborated with the Alchemist on several prior projects, released four albums in 2022: Killing Nothing with Real Bad Man, Fair Exchange No Robbery with Nicholas Craven, Mr. Ten08 with Futurewave and Be That as It May with Cuns. Last year, he also opened for Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson‘s co-headlining ÑBA Leather World Tour. James previously said he has a forthcoming album featuring unreleased work from the late J Dilla.

“My brother is gonna come back 10 times stronger,” the Alchemist wrote on Instagram Saturday. “Everyone wish The Jack God @boldyjames a speedy recovery,”

Azalea previewed Hotter with via a visual collaboration with collage artist Ian Woods, known for his mind-bending, cut-up images of famous athletes, actors and musicians. Describing the multi-media effort, Azalea said, “I’ve been working on Hotter Than Hellfor over six months already, and I’m full of excitement and nervous anticipation to begin revealing it to the world, layer by layer. Admittedly, I never knew OnlyFans was a place where I could be creative, so I didn’t expect to be collaborating with them on my biggest project to date!,” she said of the site that is is used by content creators to upload photos, video and live streams that sometimes feature explicit content.

“Once I looked beyond the surface level chatter about what it means to have an OnlyFans, I realized it was the perfect platform to launch a multimedia concept on,” she said. “I feel excited about not having to worry about the overwhelming and creatively limiting censorship artists have to navigate when sharing work on other digital platforms. The project is bold and fun – so is this collaboration – I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.”

Lil Dicky is gearing up for the third season of his FXX comedy Dave and, once again, he’s got a boatload of guest stars on tap to help tell the tale of the striving rapper with crippling writer’s block whose career is a series of unfortunate incidents.

According to Deadline, at this year’s Television Critic’s Association gathering, comedian/rapper Dicky (born Dave Burd), unlocked the A-list names that will join him on the upcoming season, which will include Demi Lovato, Machine Gun Kelly, Megan Fox, Usher, Rick Ross, Don Cheadle, Killer Mike, Travis Barker and more. “That’s just a fraction and the fraction I haven’t named, will blow you away,” Burd reportedly told TCA attendees on Thursday (Jan. 12).

The show’s co-creator, Jeff Schaffer, noted that the series’ signature drop-ins from famous faces is all part of the warped reality narrative of Dave’s eternally about-to-take-off career and the skewering of celebrity culture. “On Dave, People like playing funhouse versions of themselves or play with their public perception – a real plus for them,” he said. “Everyone from Lin-Manuel Miranda playing a passive aggressive a–hole. People want to come and have fun.”

The upcoming season premieres on FXX on April 5 at 10 p.m. ET (and streams the next day on Hulu), with the first two episodes chronicling Dave headlining his first tour, on which he and his crew — rapper GaTa (“GaTa”), Andrew Santino (“Mike”), Taylor Misiak (“Ally”), Travis Bennett (“Elz”) and Christine Ko (“Emma”) — learn a few things about the country, and each other.

Earlier this month, GaTa hyped up the new season, tweeting, “Season 3 will be the best TV SHOW of the Year! This tweet will age well and gracefully. I promise y’all.” On Thursday, Dicky was equally effusive, tweeting, “Season 3 starts April 5th…third time’s the charm – most rapping, most funny, most cinematic, most romantic, most definitely the most exciting season ever!!!!!!”

Meek Mill celebrated a momentous day on Thursday (Jan. 12) when he announced that outgoing Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf had granted him a pardon on the 15-year-old drug and gun charges that for years bedeviled the rapper’s life and career. The moves means the offenses will be permanently expunged from his criminal record. “Thankyall. I’m only gone do more for my community on God!,” Meek wrote on Instagram alongside a slightly redacted copy of the official pardon document. “#newlevelsunlocked,” he added.

Over on Twitter, Meek, 35, added, “I got pardoned today…, I’m taking things really far from being a trench baby!” The pardon reads, “Therefore, know ye that in consideration of the premises and by virtue of the authority vested in me by the [redacted] said Robert R. Williams (Alias: Meek Mill) born on May 6, 1987, identified [redacted]… crime(s) whereof he was convicted as aforesaid, and he is thereby fully pardoned [redacted].

Mill (born Robert Rihmeek Williams), was convicted on drug and weapons charges in 2008 — when he was 18-years-old — and sentenced to 11-23 months in prison and released after serving eights months of his sentence and was later placed on probation for five years. What followed was a years-long series of legal entanglements that helped transform the rapper into an advocate for criminal justice reform.

Mill was arrested again in 2012 after cops said they smelled marijuana coming from his car, then was back in court two years later on a probation violation for booking performances outside of his native Philly without a judge’s approval, resulting in another prison sentence. The same judge sentenced him to 90 days of house arrest in 2016 for another alleged violation for traveling outside Philly, and once more in 2017 for violating his terms of probation, netting him a two to four year sentence in state prison.

In July 2019, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania granted Mill’s appeal, thereby overturning his 2008 conviction and ordering a new trial to be overseen by a different judge. That same year, Mill launched the non-profit REFORM Alliance, whose mission is to “transform probation and parole by changing laws, systems and culture to create real pathways to work and wellbeing.”

Jack Harlow is getting an early jump on Super Bowl LVII in a new teaser for his big game Doritos commercial. In the 15-second clip that dropped on Thursday morning (Jan. 12), the “First Class” rapper runs a red carpet gauntlet as paparazzi scream his name, with one in particular smashing his face up against the limo window with a super important question.

As Harlow gets a moment’s peace inside his ride and begins digging into a bag of the brand’s new sweet and tangy BBQ Doritos, the pap yells, “Is it true about the love triangle?” Harlow considers the question before popping a three-corner chip into his mouth and slyly saying, “Maybe.” The photog, however, mishears him and yells, “Baby? You’re having a baby?”

The full ad will drop closer to Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Harlow is just one of the A-list names on tap for this year’s championship game, joining Rihanna, who will be headlining the halftime show.

Last month, Harlow landed at No. 8 on Billboard‘s list of greatest pop stars of 2022 after scoring a breakthrough year scoring hits including “Nail Tech” and “First Class” and landing a starring role in the remake of White Men Can’t Jump before releasing his album Come Home the Kids Miss You.

Last year’s viral Doritos SB ad was soundtracked by Queen’s 1984 hit “I Want to Break Free” and famously featured actor Matthew McConaughey in the bizarro role of #FlatMatthew. The 2020 version featured a dance-off between Lil Nas X and Sam Elliott in a wild west showdown cued to LNX’s global hit “Old Town Road.”

Check out Harlow’s ad preview below.
