halftime show
If Beyoncé is performing for halftime, you know you’re in for a very special treat. From her landmark two previous Super Bowl halftime show appearances (2013 and 2016) to her landmark Coachella headlining performance (2018) and record-breaking Renaissance World Tour (2023), Beyoncé has consistently delivered jaw-dropping performances that showcase her vocal virtuosity, dance skills and […]
Beyoncé may have wrapped her Christmas Day Halftime Show performance, but famous fans such as Serena Williams and Reneé Rapp still aren’t over it.
Following the 32-time Grammy winner’s high-production showcase midway through the Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens game Wednesday (Dec. 25), the tennis legend took to X to gush about Bey’s star power. “Honestly can’t get enough of you,” Williams wrote moments after Bey exited the field.
A certain Mean Girls star had paragraphs’ worth of praise to share about Bey’s performance on Instagram Stories. “I’m not f—ing kidding ya’ll don’t GET IT!!!!!,” Rapp wrote over a black background. “WHY AM I CRYING DURING A DRUMLINE?? SHE’S BEEN IT SHE’S STILL IT SHE WILL ALWAYS BE IT!! BEYONCÉ TILL I DIE.”

“like this is the worlds most beautiful person alive,” the “Snow Angel” singer continued in a second post. “you wanna talk about being a FAN?! SHE MADE A FAN OUT OF ME YOUNG AND KEPT IT THAT WAY HOW ARE YOU STILL THAT FINE AND PERFORMING LIKE THAT!!! full body chills.”
The “Break My Soul” vocalist’s halftime offering was certainly one for the history books, with the show marking the first time Bey performed any songs from her Billboard 200-topping album Cowboy Carter. Shaboozey, Post Malone, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy and Reyna Roberts all joined her to help sing their respective collaborations from the Grammy-nominated LP — including “Sweet Honey Buckiin,’” “Levii’s Jeans” and “Blackbiird” — while Bey’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, accompanied her mom on the field for a few dance numbers.
During and after the show, Bey also received support from both of her Destiny’s Child bandmates. Michelle Williams was on hand at NRG Stadium to cheer the Ivy Park founder on, sharing an on-site photo on Instagram Stories during the performance, while Kelly Rowland reposted a clip on her Story of the “Irreplaceable” musician and Blue Ivy dancing together during “Texas Hold ‘Em” and wrote, “SHUT IT DOWN!!!!”
Luckily for Williams, Rapp, the Destiny’s Child women and every other person in the Beyhive who loved the musician’s showcase, Netflix will soon drop a Beyoncé Bowl special featuring footage from the 12-plus-minute set. The streamer aired the performance — plus the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers and Texans-Ravens games — live on Christmas Day.
Shortly after the show, Bey also teased that she has a new project coming in 2025, dropping a cryptic video of her riding a horse and swinging an American flag. “1.14.25,” reads a message at the end of the clip, which Live Nation reposted on socials — a move that has many fans convinced the star is planning to embark on a tour next year.
“It’s only right that we do ‘Texas Hold ’Em’ for the first time in Texas, on Christmas.” So proclaimed Beyoncé near the end of a thrilling performance at the halftime show of the Houston Texans-Baltimore Ravens matchup on Christmas Day — a special, one-of-a-kind showcase for her album Cowboy Carter that fans have waited months to see and savor.

In the middle of a special Christmas Day NFL game on Netflix, Beyoncé was introduced as a “hometown hero,” ahead of ‘Beyoncé Bowl.’ Fittingly, the extended performance, and live debut of several Cowboy Carter tracks, felt fully independent of its halftime-show context, a must-see live event that was streamed globally, dominated all of social media, and just happened to exist during a football game.
Introducing an all-white western aesthetic that carried over through the full performance, Beyoncé arrived on a white horse backstage, singing “16 Carriages” and making her way to the field at NRG Stadium, with blonde curls adorning the sides of her face. She then segued into her soulful version of “Blackbiird” after dismounting and walking forward, flanked by band members and backup singers, then by her four co-singers on the track: Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy and Reyna Roberts.

Finally arriving onstage, Bey launched into an exhilarating version of album highlight “Ya Ya,” a marching band bringing effusive energy as she sashayed down the field and into the end zone. The quieter intro of the set had fully given way to dozens of dancers and musicians by the time Beyoncé played her 2023 single “My House” live for the first time, followed by a pair of Cowboy Carter back-half gems: “Riiverdance” and “Sweet ★ Honey ★ Buckiin’.” The latter featured Shaboozey, delivering his triumphant guest spot a few weeks after tying the all-time Hot 100 record with his own single “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
Then the tempo slowed down, Bey struck a pose in front of a pickup truck, and she launched into “Levii’s Jeans” — with Post Malone waiting for her in the bed of the truck. Rocking a diamond-encrusted white jacket and (of course) jeans, Posty gave us a few seconds of heartfelt duet with Bey, both superstars beaming while performing the song for the first time together.
After performing her cover of “Jolene” while making her way downfield on a convertible, she launched into the No. 1 hit from Cowboy Carter, “Texas Hold’ Em,” with her daughter, Blue Ivy, dancing by her side. “Now I need all my cowboys to the dance floor!” Bey exclaimed, shortly before ascending towards the roof of the stadium, ending the performance in mid-air on a small white platform and bathed in rapturous applause from the hometown crowd.
The performance marked the first live presentation of Bey’s Cowboy Carter album, which was released last March, topped the Billboard 200 chart in April and scored the superstar another Grammy nom for album of the year. Although Beyoncé spent 2023 on the road in supper of her 2022 full-length Renaissance, she has yet to tour behind Cowboy Carter… although immediately after the performance, she did tease an announcement for Jan. 14, 2025.
Netflix’s two Christmas Day games are a first of their kind, with the streaming service expected to continue the holiday tradition through at least 2026. Beyoncé is a veteran of the major NFL halftime show: she headlined Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 in New Orleans, reuniting with her Destiny’s Child group mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and returned for Super Bowl 50 in 2016, performing at halftime with Coldplay and Bruno Mars.

Though he’s currently running through the paces of rehearsals for his first go at it, Usher knows the rigors of preparing a Super Bowl halftime show. With just 13 minutes to perform a career-spanning set and eight minutes to set up the stage, the singer told Vogue magazine in a new digital cover story that there he knows there is no room for error.
“It has to be perfect,” said the “Yeah!” singer known for his mind-bendingly smooth dance moves and elaborate staging. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I want people who have been a part of that journey to feel like it’s a celebration for everybody, for all of us, from the beginning up until this point.”
Because the pre-game specifics of the halftime show are notoriously tightly-held, there were no details to share about what songs fan can expect to hear, even though Usher did give the magazine a sneak peek about his Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII set. Among the items definitely on the checklist: roller skating, killer choreography, one major costume change and, unlike last year’s performer, Rihanna, some special guests.
“This night was specifically curated in my mind to have R&B take the main stage,” he said, teasing that he’s pulled together a team who represent the architects of the genre to help him compile the set list. “Not just R&B music, but R&B performance, R&B connection, R&B spirit.” The singer who tearfully closed out his 100-show Las Vegas residency in December, said he’s also been thinking about such other legendary Vegas icons as Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley while putting together the show.
“I’m literally speaking to every woman. I want to make it feel like that,” the legendarily lusty singer said of aiming for a sensual intimacy in the 65,000-capacity stadium, while also keeping in mind other legendary Super Bowl halftime shows as he celebrates his own history.
“I’m thinking about the fact that I’ve been able to walk through the front door as a result of their sacrifice and ability,” he said of the legacy of such previous Black icons as Michael Jackson and Prince, as well as what R&B means in a country where some of its most famous practitioners had to enter the stage through the kitchen door in the 1950s and 60s due to segregation.
“It’s made me feel joyous. It made me feel like I want to go out there, and I want the world to smile when they look at me. I want them to feel something, and feel my passion, my love, feel like I was the right person to sit in this position, and I was the right person to bring this kind of energy and love and connection to the entire world,” Usher said.
“People will tune in for a football game, but I hope when they look at that halftime performance, I’m hoping they walk away with something that’s healing them,” he added. “Something that makes them feel hopeful, and not just look at the past, but have hope for the future, and have hope for a different type of future than we’re looking at right now in the present.”
The 45-year old singer is gearing up to release his ninth studio album, Coming Home, on Feb. 9, just two days before he takes the stage at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the big game. It’s a gig that his fans will tell you is a long time coming, but which didn’t materialize until Jay-Z called up to ask Ush to do the honors this year.
“Every day I’m kind of sitting here and I take a moment to just look at where we’re going to be, which is right there,” Usher told the magazine while pointing to the shiny black glass spaceship of a stadium in the Nevada desert.
And, not for nothing, the writer reveals that they have already heard an “afrobeat-inflected earworm” from Coming Home, assuring fans that it is “20 tracks of absolute bangers.”
Dolly Parton may have a career in professional cheerleading if this music thing doesn’t work out. The 77-year-old country superstar stunned during the NFL halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys-Washing Commanders game on Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) after stepping onto the stage in a sparkling Cowboys-inspired cheerleader uniform for her show-stealing set. “Hello, Texas! Dolly does […]
Rihanna‘s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show is officially the most-watched halftime show performance of all time, according to an adjusted Nielsen report Tuesday (May 2).
The live performance — her first in more than five years — attracted 121.017 million viewers during the Feb. 12-dated broadcast. Nielsen’s revised report regarding Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles also makes this year’s big game the most-watched Super Bowl in history.
According to the Associated Press, Nielsen revised this year’s original figure of 113.1 million by 2 million “after a review that revealed encoding irregularities as well as issues with out-of-home measurement.” The new 115.1 million figure breaks the record that was previously set by the 2015 Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, which had 114.442 million viewers (not including streaming). This year’s figure also surpassed that of the 2017 Super Bowl between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots (113.668 million), which previously held the most-watched record out of Fox Sports’ 10 Super Bowl broadcasts.
During RiRi’s now history-making performance at Glendale, Ariz.’s State Farm Stadium, she not only revealed she was pregnant with her and partner A$AP Rocky‘s second child, but she also performed her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits like “Only Girl (in the World),” “We Found Love,” “S&M,” “Rude Boy,” “Work” and more. Ahead of her big night, Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty lingerie and clothing brand sold “Rihanna concert interrupted by a football game, weird but whatever” T-shirts as part of its game day collection. And considering millions more people tuned into her “concert” than the game, there’s truth to that slogan.
