Harry Styles was among the thousands in attendance at the conclave election of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Thursday (May 8).
The 31-year-old pop superstar was spotted in a now-viral photograph taken in Saint Peter’s Square, dressed in a blue jacket, sunglasses and a baseball cap that read “Techno is my boyfriend.”
The “Watermelon Sugar” hitmaker was also seen walking the streets of Rome ahead of the historic ceremony, according to ABC News.
Fans on social media quickly took note of the former One Direction member in the crowd.

“Little did the pope know he was waving to harry styles,” one fan wrote on X. Another added, “One thing about harry styles, he’s always going to accidentally serve cinema somewhere in europe.”
Pope Leo XIV was elected following the death of Pope Francis in April at the age of 88. Chicago-born missionary Robert Prevost, 69, was chosen by Catholic cardinals to become the 267th pontiff and the first-ever U.S.-born pope.
Styles has kept a relatively low professional profile since wrapping up his global Love on Tour in 2023, which followed the release of his third studio album, Harry’s House, in 2022. During the lengthy trek, which launched in 2021, the singer fit in a few mini residencies, including a 15-show run at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and another 15 shows at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif.
Harry’s House spawned the 15-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “As It Was,” spent two weeks atop the Billboard 200, and earned him album of the year at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
Since then, Styles has been spotted traveling the world, recently participating in the Tokyo Marathon in March, where he finished 6,010th out of more than 37,000 runners. He also joined a running club in London in April.

No matter how many hit songs Halsey writes, she might never live down singing Blink-182 at her local mall.
The pop star reflected on the viral video from their teenage years, affectionately dubbed “Mallsey” by fans, during a Friday (May 9) appearance on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast.
“Word of caution to those seeking virality is that, when you’re trying anything hoping one thing will go, you don’t get to decide what that one thing is,” Halsey said on the podcast. “And that one thing might define you forever.”
Halsey went on to suggest one of those things in her own career will likely be her No. 1 single “Without Me,” which she still counts as “one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.” However, the musician also quickly pointed out, “I sang at the mall once when I was a kid and everyone will remember that until I die, probably.”
The nonbinary pop star then went on to explain the context of the “Mallsey” clip, saying, “Here’s the thing that sucks about it, right? Is that I was starting to get really popular on Tumblr, and this was the time where everyone was doing meet-ups. … You didn’t have to do anything, you didn’t have to have a talent. It didn’t matter. You were just big on the internet.”
So at the suggestion of several Tumblr users, Halsey decided to host their very first impromptu meet-up at Pennsylvania’s King of Prussia Mall. “I went and met all these fans,” the singer continued. “It was the first time I’d ever met a fan before, and they were like, ‘Will you sing?’ and I was like, I never sang outside of my bedroom before.”
Put on the spot, she bravely launched into an a cappella cover of Blink-182’s 2004 classic “I Miss You” — complete with Tom DeLonge’s unforgettable vocal affectations — which was captured on camera by a fan and the rest, as they say, is Internet history.
Elsewhere during the interview, Halsey confirmed they’re in the process of working on new music that will serve as a follow-up to 2024’s The Great Impersonator, and also dished on her mom’s hilarious reaction to her early Tumblr-era fame.
Meanwhile Halsey just teamed up with Evanescence singer Amy Lee for their new collaborative single “Hand That Feeds“

Oh my gosh.
Give me some ones that match your vibe. You know, real ethereal.
Slay.
Yes, we love that. So I’m gonna ask you, who do you give your flowers to for getting you where you are now?
Oh my god, is it so corny, if I give them to my mom, who’s like, literally, right there?
No, of course not, you can tell mom to come here.
Mom, I have flowers for you.
Where’s mom?
She asked who do you give your flowers to-
For getting you where you are. Oh that’s so cute.
My mom has been supporting me since I was 12, and I got signed, and she’s been by my side the whole journey. Stood by me. She managed me by herself for like, two whole years.

Hey, thank you for having me.
Of course, you got a lot going on, my friend. So we’re gonna start with the music. Of course. MAGIC MAN 2 you’ve been teasing. You’ve been telling everybody about it, but MAGIC MAN, the first one, debuted at 15 on our Billboard 200 charts.
Thank you. Thank you. Please make me top five.
There you go. See he’s already said what he wants. What made you decide you want to follow up the 2022 project with a second version of MAGIC MAN?
I’ve been working on stop for over 11 years, and I was just like, hey, I need to recharge. I need to refresh and be inspired again. So I took a year off, and I was like, hey, you know what? I haven’t actually made a song for myself. You know, when I was in my youth, I’ve always, you know, wrote songs or produced songs, trying to show everyone, hey, I can do this, I can dance, I can sing, I can perform. But what about me? What do I want to say as a person? So I took that year off and I just started writing diaries and converted them into music.
What was something during that year that you felt like when you look back like you’re like, I’m so happy I took this year off because I had this moment.
