The 2023 Met Gala kicked off on the first Monday of May (May 1), and saw musicians, actresses and other celebrities dressed up in the most fashionable and head-turning garments while descending upon New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo and more offered stunning looks, while Doja Cat, Jared Leto and Lil Nas X went the daring route with cat ensembles on the beige carpet, but some spectators were left wondering how feline costuming fit in line with the gala’s theme this year.

In line with previous themes such as 2017’s “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” and 2011’s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” the 2023 Met Gala’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” to honor the late designer, who passed away in 2019. Attendees could pull from Lagerfeld’s designs for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his eponymous brand for inspiration or archival looks, but in the case of Doja, Leto and Lil Nas X, they chose to pay homage to designer’s beloved cat, Choupette.

To pay tribute to Lagerfeld and his relationship with the Birman, Doja gave a high-fashion take on the famous feline, opting for a backless hand-beaded white gown by Oscar de la Renta (the designer also had a close relationship with Lagerfeld) with a fitted hood punctuated by glittering cat ears and forehead jewels. The rapper accessorized the look with facial prosthetics to make her look even more catlike.

Lil Nas X left little to the imagination with his crystal outfit, donning silver full-body glitter and matching sparkling underwear and platform shoes in collaboration with makeup artist Pat McGrath and Dior Men. For his face, Lil Nas was decorated with glittering whiskers, as well as pearls, appliqué, rhinestones and more. Cat-winged eyeliner and sharp claws (nails by Temeka Jackson) completed the “Call Me By Your Name (Montero)” rapper’s look.

Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto, meanwhile, wore a literal Choupette costume that looked just like Lagerfeld’s famous feline companion. As the singer-actor progressed on the carpet, he removed his cat head to reveal intense, glittering eye makeup, and later removed the body of the costume to show an all-black ensemble consisting of a bedazzled cape, shirt and trousers.

The annual Met Gala went down in New York City on Monday (May 1) and the fits did not disappoint. Actually, many of the Hip-Hop representing attendees understood the assignment, while some need to question the motivations of their stylists.
Touted as fashion’s biggest night, the 2023 edition of the Met Gala—officially known as the Costume Institute Benefit—served as a tribute to the late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art red carpet was littered celebs and would be style legends getting their best fits off.

Some, like Dwyane Wade, Rihanna (and her boyfriend/baby daddy A$AP Rocky) and Bad Bunny succeeded, others…well…they don’t give out participation trophies.
Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky got his fit off, but why’d he have to do this?

The culture was in there deep with Cardi B, Ice Spice, Lizzo and more hitting the red carpet. Also worth noting, Rih Rih and Pretty Flacko were so late the carpet was actually finished, but an exception was made. Check out the best, and worst, fits of the night that were rocked by some of your Hip-Hop representing (and adjacent) attendees in the building.

15. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were last but certainly not least.

Diddy and City Girls‘ Yung Miami attended the 2023 Met Gala together Monday night (May 1), but once they arrived at the top of the famed stairs, host La La Anthony asked the “million-dollar question:” “Do y’all officially go together real bad?”
Diddy dodged the question by attempting to deflect to Yung Miami, whom he called by her first name Caresha. But once La La applied pressure, he finally responded. “We definitely go together real bad!” he said before clarifying, “She’s my date for the night. … We don’t put titles on it. Everybody wants us to put a title on it, we don’t put titles. This like my best friend in the world, one of the most beautiful people God has blessed me with. And I’m blessed that she’s my date tonight.”

Caresha chimed in by agreeing, “Yeah, it’s just a good date night.”

Puff Daddy couldn’t stop sweating during the red-carpet interview, desperately needing the assistance of a powder puff and mini portable fan to keep him cool. But the pressing questions about Love’s love life weren’t the only reason he was perspiring: Diddy showed up in an all-black ensemble from his fashion brand Sean John, which he bought back at the end of 2021 for $7.5 million, and his original black rose-adorned puffer cape got him real hot.

“I got a chance to spend time with Karl [Lagerfeld] when I was designing Sean John, just as a fellow designer. And he was so creative, and he had so much attention to detail,” he told Anthony about honoring this year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” He also thanked June Ambrose, the renowned creative director and costume designer who helped him create some of the music mogul’s most iconic looks, for helping him with the first Sean John collection.

And for Caresha, at least one thing about the evening was official official: her Met Gala debut. “It feels like a dream come true,” said the City Girls MC. “I’m like, ‘OK, you got through it.’ It was good, it was perfect! It was everything.” Diddy then cut in to give his date for the evening her flowers. “You were perfect. She’s gorgeous, stunning, incredible,” he mused.

“Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” will showcase more than 150 original looks designed by Lagerfeld, who died at 85 years old in 2019, delving into the former Chanel creative director’s expansive seven-decade career. Many of his original sketches are also set to appear alongside the objects on display.

From the Bronx to the Met! Ice Spice made her debut at the 2023 Met Gala on Monday evening (May 1).

In honor of this year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” the “Munch” MC (real name Isis Gaston) stunned the A-list audience in a simple yet elegant, body-hugging white sequined Balmain gown. And she traded her signature orange curls for a super-sleek, straightened look. TMZ reported earlier that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who runs the Met Gala, personally invited the “In Ha Mood” rapper after she partnered with Vogue and eBay on an iconic designer’s collection, which was announced during the Met Gala’s livestreamed red carpet.

“I’m just so grateful, I’m so happy to be here. You know, I was like really nervous approaching the carpet. And once I heard everybody screaming, I felt better,” she told Met Gala red carpet host La La Anthony. While touching on her “super last-minute” Balmain look, Ice also showed off her accessory of the evening, a bedazzled vintage camera, and explained how she was looking forward to all of the photos she would take tonight.

It’s the first Monday in May, and for fashionistas and music lovers alike, that means one thing: the 2023 Met Gala has finally arrived.

As A-listers, designers, “it” girls and the assembled glitterati of New York City prepare to ascend the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side on Monday night (May 1), those of us not invited to the most exclusive event in fashion will be settling in to participate the only other way: tuning in to the red carpet and voraciously refreshing our social feeds in order to judge everyone’s looks like we’re all Miranda Priestley.

Just like the previous two years, the glitzy fashion parade will be live-streamed by Vogue on the fashion bible’s official website with commentary by LaLa Anthony, journalist Derek Blasberg and Chloe Fineman of Saturday Night Live fame, with Emma Chamberlain serving as Vogue‘s special correspondent for the evening. The carpet will also be broadcast on Vogue‘s YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter channels, with coverage kicking off at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The theme of this year’s gala — and subsequent exhibition inside the Anna Wintour Costume Center — is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in honor of the late fashion designer who died in February 2019. While the interpretations of some dress codes in recent years have been known to serve up more “huh?” than haute couture, this year’s theme will give stars the perfect excuse to pay tribute to Lagerfeld (who famously turned his nose up at the very idea of nostalgia) in everything from Chanel and Fendi to vintage Balmain, Chloé and his own namesake fashion label.

The iconic Tiffany & Co. has reopened it flagship store in New York on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, and to celebrate, they threw a party with several notable musicians and celebrities in attendance for the opening-night festivities.
Jimin took a break from promoting his debut solo album FACE and showed up to the Tiffany blue carpet in a black-on-black tuxedo ensemble with stain lapels, a diamond-encrusted flower brooch and leather shoes. Later in the evening, Jimin was joined by Pharrell Williams, who arrived in a multicolored ensemble, leather pants, chunky boots and angular sunglasses. The pair smiled for a photo together — a welcome treat for BTS ARMY who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the K-pop group’s yet-untitled collaboration with Pharrell, which the all-star producer teased in 2022.
Katy Perry, meanwhile, was an attraction at the Tiffany & Co. reopening — she took to the stage in a fitted strapless gown (in Tiffany blue, of course) to perform a series of smashes from her catalog, including her breakthrough hit “I Kissed a Girl,” “Never Really Over” and “Firework.”
Elsewhere on the blue carpet was Anitta, who fiercely posed in an undone tuxedo and white button-down look; Zöe Kravitz, who took a sweet candid with friend Hailey Baldwin; newlyweds Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham; and actress Florence Pugh. Anya Taylor Joy, Blake Lively, Tiffany Haddish, Jacob Elordi and Tracee Ellis Ross were also among the famous faces in attendance.

“I’m excited to launch this next generation of SKIMS shapewear with a campaign that celebrates these incredible musical artists,” Kardashian said in a statement regarding the release. “Ice Spice, Nessa Barrett, PinkPantheress, and RAYE are super talented women and truly reflect our SKIMS community.”

In the new brand images and videos, Ice Spice wears the Seamless Sculpt High Neck Thong Bodysuit in the color bronze and PinkPantheress wears the Seamless Sculpt High Waist Catsuit in the color jasper (charcoal gray). Elsewhere in the campaign images, Barrett is seen in the Seamless Sculpt Slip Dress in the color sienna (tan) while RAYE appears in the Seamless Sculpt Strapless Thong Bodysuit in the color clay (light gray).

“SKIMS just gets it and makes me feel extra snatched,” said Ice Spice. “I’m happy to be a part of the latest campaign.” PinkPantheress echoed her collaborator’s sentiment, adding, “These styles empower me to try clothes I wouldn’t have tried before and make me feel so comfortable and secure.”

On the charts, PinkPantheress and Ice Spice’s “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2” sits at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Ice’s “Princess Diana” remix with Nicki Minaj debuts at No. 4 on the chart.

Zendaya has landed another major partnership. On Thursday (April 20), Louis Vuitton announced that the Euphoria actress has been named a house ambassador, and stars in the luxury fashion brand’s newest campaign for the Capucines handbag.

This partnership marks Zendaya’s first with Louis Vuitton. The photos for the Capucines bag features the star drenched in sunlight, posing with several models of the purse in Cote d’Azur (the French Riviera).

“I remember growing up around LV campaigns,” the “Replay” singer shared in an interview with Vogue. “There was this one that I loved from the early 2000s of Naomi Campbell, and she’s like sprawled out over a trunk. I can still see it. I can see the image in my head and I remember seeing it in magazines as a kid.”

Starring in the campaign adds another dose of nostalgia, as the Louis Vuitton iconography played into her social media usage and made frequent appearances on Myspace during the social networking site’s prime. “Everyone had the LV-print on their Myspace page,” she explained. “At least I had that! Let me not try to put that on nobody else. That was definitely me.”

Zendaya was most recently an ambassador for Valentino, joining the fashion house’s family in 2020.

It seems that two of the most beloved fashion brands might be partnering up. Supreme and Coogi are rumored to be collaborating on a forthcoming drop.

As spotted on Hype Beast the speculation is swirling around the streetwear community that the culture might be in store for a co-branded effort from the New York City headquartered company and the Australian fashion house. Earlier this week Supreme insider @dropsgg reported that the two brands are currently working on a capsule collection.

“Supreme x Coogi is set to release a collaboration together in the coming weeks! Who’s hyped?” the caption read. The accompanying visual is the iconic picture of The Notorious B.I.G. from a Vibe Magazine shoot of him wearing their signature jacquard sweater while counting money. While neither brand has yet to confirm or deny the rumor the mere thought of a collaboration has already got the internets talking. “coogi print box logos would b insane” one commenter posted. While another user responded “I been waiting for this all my life”.

Coogi was founded in 1969 in Toorak, Australia. Hip-Hop culture adopted the kaleidoscopic-patterned sweaters back in the mid 1990’s. Today the original knitwear pieces are highly coveted on the resale market; fetching upwards to $5,000.00 for never-worn pieces. Most recently Coogi has collaborated with Burton Snowboards, Rag & Bone, Android Homme, and Puma.
