A new documentary on the unknown story behind the rise of digital piracy produced by Eminem & LeBron James debuts in June.

One of the more obscured stories behind the rise of digital piracy and how it transformed the music industry into what it is today, is on display in a new documentary series, entitled How Music Got Free. The two-episode series is based on the best-selling 2016 book by Stephen Witt. Eminem and LeBron James are executive producers along with Maverick Carter, Paul Rosenberg, and Steve Stoute. The series is directed by Alexandria Stapleton, a veteran who recently was at the helm of the Amazon Prime documentary Reggie, about New York Yankees Hall-of-Famer Reggie Jackson.

How Music Got Free focuses in part on the life of Dell Glover. Glover, a man from Shelby, North Carolina, worked at the Universal Music compact disc pressing plant and used his access and ingenuity to leak music as part of the disruption that upended the music industry in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The series shows how his efforts and others led to the rise of Napster and other downloading sites. As Stapleton expresses in the press release, “The real visionaries, rebels, and anti-heroes of the era were a ragtag group of young people hidden behind online aliases. They leveraged tech and proved to the world how fans really wanted to consume music in the 1990s, 2000s, and beyond. The music industry was too busy raking in profits from CDs to see the digital tsunami that was about to swamp them. When the flood came, the industry didn’t build better boats, they blamed the pirates riding the wave and tried to put them in federal prison.”
How Music Got Free is narrated by Method Man, and features interviews with Eminem, 50 Cent, Steve Stoute, Timbaland, Jimmy Iovine, Rocsi Diaz, Rhymefest, and more. Also involved in the series’ production is Warner Bros. Unscripted Television/Telepictures, in association with SpringHill, Interscope Films, and Shady Films. How Music Got Free will make its premiere on Paramount Plus on June 11.

Eminem has several accomplishments to boast about, including record sales, awards, and his ongoing sobriety. As a father, Eminem has reached the pinnacle of Dad Status after seeing the apple of his eye, Hailie Jade, get married in a lavish setting in Michigan.
Eminem, 51, was on hand for the wedding of Evan McClintock and his daughter Hailie Jade Scott at the Greencrest Manor in Battle Creek, Mich. this past Saturday (May 18). Dad was decked out in a tuxedo with dark shades and as TMZ shared in its report, Eminem did the traditional Dad-and-Daughter dance.

The new Mrs. McClintock met her husband at Michigan State University where they both attended and have been reportedly dating since 2016. The pair announced their engagement in 2023 and the news was shared on Mrs. McClintock’s popular Instagram page where she details her life as a podcaster and media figure.
Also according to TMZ, the wedding was attended by some of Eminem’s famous friends including Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Jimmy Iovine, among others. It wasn’t a large affair as the event only included family and their closest friends.
Congratulations to Evan and Hailie Jade McClintock, and Eminem for seeing off his baby girl the right way.

Eminem burst onto the scene in the 1990s and employed his Slim Shady persona to allow the zanier parts of his brain to come forth. After teasing the so-called death of the character, Eminem published an obituary for Slim Shady in a Detroit newspaper in a leadup to a new album according to reports.
As spotted on Detroit Free Press, Eminem, 51, shared the fake obituary feature as an advertisement, and it seems like the artist born Marshall Mathers is serious about letting the persona go as he preps a new summer album.

From Detroit Free Press:

Under the label “OBITUARIES,” the blurb is headlined “Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions,” with the subtitle “Fans ‘Will Never Forget’ Controversial Rapper.”
The piece goes on to remember Slim Shady as “a rogue splinter in the flourishing underground rap scene” who was introduced to the wider world on the 1999 hit single “My Name Is.” The ad describes the character’s “complex and tortured existence” and his “sudden and horrific end.”
On April 25, Eminem shared a cinematic clip on the NFL Network during this year’s NFL Draft stylized as a true crime drama featuring 50 Cent, which cleverly announced the title of his upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace). No date for the project has been announced.

After years of playing the sideline of the Hip-Hop game, Eminem seems ready to return with a brand new album, but judging from the title of it, this just might be the last time the rap icon releases an LP in his illustrious career.

Yesterday (April 25), Eminem dropped by the NFL Draft which was being held in his hometown of Detroit. While he was there he took the time to announce the news that he’d be releasing his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady, this summer. To get the album buzzing he released a trailer for the project, which featured clips of some of Em’s most popular songs released over the last two decades. (Feel old yet?)

Playing off of Unsolved Mysteries, the trailer asks the question of “who killed Slim Shady” and comedically features a cameo from 50 Cent who says, “He’s not a friend. He’s a psychopath.”
Though no new songs were featured in the trailer to give us an idea of what the album would sound like, it’s a pretty safe bet that fans will tune in regardless as this man has had a loyal following since breaking into the game in 1999.
Check out the trailer to Eminem’s forthcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady, and let us know if you have any expectations for it in the comments section below.

At some point, it needs to be acknowledged that the main reason the two-decade-old beef between Benzino and Eminem refuses to die is that Benzino refuses to stop talking about it.

It was just last month that the “Who Is Benzino?” rapper had a tearful emotional breakdown on the set of Drink Champs because he was supposedly tired of talking about his Caucasian rival, who he said he “don’t have a problem with” at the time. But then he was right back to trading jabs with Slim Shady soon after. Now, the 58-year-old is taking his beef with Em to the latter’s home city of Detroit and posting on Instagram photos and footage of himself at Em’s “Mom’s Spaghetti” Italian cuisine  restaurant, where he bought bags of food just so he could tell his followers that the spaghetti was “horrible.”

“Mark this date. #Rapelvis Video soon come……oh the [spaghetti] was horrible,” Zino captioned a photo posted to IG that showed him flipping the bird at the logo of Em’s restaurant. Apparently, the former Mad Men member didn’t think there was anything counterintuitive about spending his money on food from Em’s eatery—which essentially puts it in the Music to be Murdered By rapper’s pocket—while giving the restaurant free advertising.
From Vibe:
Zino also uploaded various other clips from behind the scenes of his music video, showing him launching more disrespect at Em’s establishment. The former The Source owner is seen ordering bags of food from the spot. In another clip, he takes a bite from a pint-size spaghetti order before chucking it in disgust. Another clip features the 58-year-old Hip-Hop figure stealing one of the store’s signs.

Meanwhile, outside of an occasional diss track, Em appears to be far less invested in this beef than Zino is. So, you know, maybe it’s time to let it go, bruh.

It was officially Dre Day in Hollywood. The iconic superproducer was immortalized with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
Spotted on TMZ, Dr. Dre has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week, and the three artists whose careers he was instrumental in shaping—Eminem, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg—were on hand to celebrate the occasion.

On Tuesday, the producer/rapper/actor’s star was placed in the cement along with other actors and musicians during the ceremony.
Other notable names in attendance were Kurupt, his Beats partner Jimmy Iovine, and legendary radio personality Big Boy.

In a post on Instagram, Dr. Dre thanked his brothers for showing up and showing love, writing in the caption:
“I’d like to thank my brothers and all of Los Angeles for showing me love on March 19th to get my Hollywood Star.”

Dr. Dre Opens Up About His Health Issues
Dre getting his Walk of Fame honor comes after he opened up about his major health scare, revealing he suffered three strokes and a brain aneurysm during a recent interview with James Corden on SirusXM’s The Life of Mine With James Corden.
Per HHW’s previous reporting:
“I got up and I went on about my day, and I thought that I could just lay down and take a nap,” he explained. “My son had a female friend that was there and was like, ‘No, we need to take you to the hospital.’ So they took me to urgent care.”
Dr. Dre went on to detail how he suffered three strokes and nearly lost his life.
“Next thing you know, I’m blacking out. I’m in and out of consciousness, and I ended up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks. I’m hearing the doctors coming in and saying, ‘You don’t know how lucky you are.’”
When asked what caused his dire medical condition he pointed to high blood pressure.
“I had no idea that I had high blood pressure or anything like that because I’m on my health sh*t. I’m lifting weights, I’m running, I’m doing everything I can to keep myself healthy.” He went on to make it clear he has a new perspective on life saying it, “definitely makes you appreciate being alive, that’s for sure.”

Salute to Dr. Dre.

Dr. Dre is having a great week after the legendary producer had a star placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sharing the moment with some of his famous pals. Speaking of those friends, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent joined Dre in a hilarious skit spoofing Grey’s Anatomy.
During Tuesday’s (March 19) airing of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Dr. Dre appears in the spoof of the long-running ABC drama, Grey’s Anatomy titled “Dre’s Anatomy” with the artist born Andre Young in the role of an emergency room doctor.

Dre, Snoop, and Fif all take turns examining Kimmel’s “situation” down below and the most amazing thing about the skit is that nobody breaks character during it all.
After the skit turns into an all-out party with Dre on the beat machine and Snoop taking hits of a mysterious vapor, the skit cuts to a break and teases a new show titled “EM” with Eminem.
The quartet were all on hand this week for Dre’s Hollywood Walk of Fame unveiling, displaying their close friendship and support of one another.
Check out Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent in the “Dre’s Anatomy” skit via Jimmy Kimmel Live below. And we’ll echo the sentiments of others to say this needs to be a real series.

A few weeks ago Eminem had older heads confused when he decided to rehash his old beef with Benzino on the track “Doomsday 2.” Although Zino is open to squashing his beef with Em in 2024, It doesn’t seem like the feeling is mutual.

Dropping off some new visuals for the aforementioned song, Eminem rocks some black and yellow attire (alone with the “Thunder” Air Jordan 4’s) as he strolls through a hospital that seems like it’s been rocked by a natural disaster while his rap peers such as Big Sean and Cordae appear to take on the adlib duties. Not gonna lie, we kinda feel bad for Benzino at this point.

Another Hip-Hop OG returns to show he’s still got enough bars to lock down a block and in his Young Thug assisted clip to “OK,” Busta Rhymes uses a cloud as his sofa high in the sky while utilizing some CGI magic to have the currently incarcerated Young Thug to spit his verse. Busta still got it, man.

Eminem isn’t team iPhone or Android. His allegiance still lies with the iconic Blackberry smartphone.
The iconic Detroit rapper isn’t on the scene much, and his presence on social media isn’t as active as most celebrities, possibly due to the device he is using.

DJ Whoo Kid shared a candid and very rare photo moment featuring Slim Shady, and in it, the “My Name Is” rapper can be seen using a Blackberry device.

Yup, that same Blackberry device that the company maker of the same name decided it was time to stop making in a world dominated by phones that no longer have keypads.
In the caption for the Thursday Instagram post featuring Eminem and Denaun Porter for the WHOO’s House Podcast, he confirmed the rapper still uses a Blackberry while making a joke about Mathers’ Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant.
“Eminem was trying to figure out who ate his last mom’s spaghetti box in the dressing room,” Whoo Kid wrote. “I was like @momsspaghettidetroit I told him it was @iamdenaun. and by the way yes. He still has a blackberry phone.”

Did Whoo Kid Respond To Mr. Chimetime?
Whoo Kid’s mention of Mom’s Spaghetti could be a response to popular food blogger Mr. Chimetime slamming Em’s restaurant.
“This is by far the worst spaghetti that I have ever had in my entire life of eating spaghetti,” Chime said in a video. His harsh critique of the spaghetti continues, “When I tasted this, it kinda reminds me of middle school cafeteria meat. But I’m a keep it 100 with you, middle school cafeteria meat is better than this bullsh*t, bruh.”

Maybe Eminem was typing up a diss track for Mr. Chimetime on his Blackberry. We wonder if he has other raps on there as well.

One can only wonder.
We’re not mad at Eminem for being loyal to his Blackberry device because BBM was popping, the keypad was amazing, and the email app was exceptionally clutch.
So we get it.

It’s been years since Eminem got into the restaurant game with his Detroit eatery, Mom’s Spaghetti (lifted from a famous line off his smash hit “Lose Yourself”). If you’re wondering why it never branched out of the 313, well, it’s probably cause it’ll make you spit up a little something, allegedly.

At least that’s been the word on the street as popular online foodie and food vlogger Mr. ChimeTime, born Rashad Mooreman, has just put Em’s restaurant on blast for serving him what he called “the worst” spaghetti he’s ever had in his life. Taking to his channel to review Mom’s Spaghetti posted Saturday (Feb. 17), ChimeTime gave Eminem his flowers for being “iconic” and “one of the best rappers that ever lived” before chowing down on his order of two different types of spaghetti and a spaghetti sandwich.

The results were not glowing in the slightest as Chime went to town on his criticism of the food. “This is by far the worst spaghetti that I have ever had in my entire life of eating spaghetti,” Chime said. Continuing to reign fire and brimstone on the quality of food, Chime went on to say, “When I tasted this, it kinda reminds me of middle school cafeteria meat. But I’ma keep it 100 with you, middle school cafeteria meat is better than this bullsh*t, bruh.”
Aside from the actual taste of the meal, Chime took issue with the manner in which the food was served saying that the container was open and spaghetti spilled out of the box. It definitely didn’t help that the food was “cold as f*ck” and that the sauce itself was “by far the blandest upper-mid sauce that I’ve ever had in any spaghetti.”
Marshall Mathers out here really adding credence to the whole notion that white folk don’t know sh*t about flavor or spices. Just sayin’. Em might have to fire some people or at least just buy cans of Chef Boyardee by the truckload and pass it off as his own or something.
What action this prompts Eminem to take to improve the menu items of his restaurant is anyone’s guess, but one thing is for certain, we have no interest whatsoever in trying any items from Em’s Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant.
That being said, when the hell is Bun B going to open up a Trill Burgers in New York City, b?! We waiting on that, homie!
