DJ Akademiks is definitely a notable voice in the sprawling Hip-Hop media space although some would venture to say that his style of journalism isn’t particularly hard-hitting. Ak, using his massive platform, took shots at Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole for not sitting down with Hip-Hop outlets and instead took interviews with spaces outside the culture.
DJ Akademiks took to his customary post on Twitch to talk his talk regarding the aforementioned trio of rappers who made their marks early on during the so-called “blog era” and transformed themselves into Hip-Hop megastars.
From Ak’s perspective, it appears that this current dig at Hip-Hop’s biggest names came in the wake of J. Cole recently sitting down with Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers for a wide-ranging chat that wasn’t solely focused on his storied career. Instead, the North Carolina rapper shared tales of his upbringing, including a time when his older brother caught him smoking cigarettes at the age of 6 and disappointing his mother in the process.
It was not an interview in the vein of what is typically held today via the various Hip-Hop podcasts and the like. DJ Akademiks believes that Drizzy, K-Dot, and Cole World are behaving as if they’re too famous to work with media outlets that are, in his words, within the culture.
In that same breath, Ak called the gentlemen “weird” for bypassing hubs like The Joe Budden Podcast, Million Dollaz Worth Of Game, and other shows of the same ilk.

Fans expecting to see Drake at Lollapalooza Brazil were left disappointed. The rapper canceled last minute prompting staff to replace him with Skrillex.
As spotted on Stereogum, Champagne Papi was slotted to close out the three day concert series at the Interlagos Circuit, in São Paulo. The morning of his performance (Sunday, March 26), he apparently notified the folks at Lollapalooza Brazil he would not be performing. In turn the staff hurried to replace him and locked in the American DJ and record producer Skrillex to replace Drizzy.
Once locked in Lollapalooza Brazil announced the switch to the public. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Drake is without members of his sound and production team, essential to the realization of the Lollapalooza show in Sao Paulo,” a statement translated from Portuguese to English on the festival’s Instagram account. “Drake was excited to perform for his fans in Brazil. Unfortunately, this is beyond his control. Sorry.”
The organization would go on to offer refunds for ticket holders who declined to attend on Sunday. Ironically, Drake was spotted having a good time at a strip club in Miami with the likes of 50 Cent. The “Money In The Grave” MC hasn’t had the best of luck with impressing his fans in South America. Earlier this month he faced backlash from fans at the Argentina and Chile editions of Lollapalooza because his sets were only about 40 minutes. Ticketholders at both shows felt the performances should have been much longer considering he was the headliner at both cities.
Drake has yet to comment on the matter.

Harry Styles, Lizzo and Swift lead this year’s nominations race with eight nods each. Swift will be on hand to receive the 2023 iHeart Innovate Award. The special honor is given out “only on occasion” and celebrates an artist that has “proven themselves to have impacted global pop culture throughout their career.”
“This is the one awards show that shares the hard-earned journeys to the top of the biggest artists and songs of the year with fans,” John Sykes, iHeartMedia’s president of entertainment enterprises, said in a statement. “It’s not a competition, rather a celebration of ‘best in class’ and viewers across America can watch it live on Fox.”

The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards will premiere live at 8 p.m. ET on Fox while a taped-delayed edition will air for the West Coast at 8 p.m. PT.
Viewers who have access to Fox through cable, satellite, streaming or a good-old fashioned TV antenna, shouldn’t have much trouble watching the show on TV or streaming it online at Fox.com.

On Thursday (March 16), Drizzy added second shows in Houston, Dallas, Miami, Detroit, Montreal, Washington, DC, Seattle, Vancouver, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Las Vegas — as well as third shows in Brooklyn, New York City and Inglewood, bringing the tour to a massive 42 shows this summer. The tour will kick off on June 16 in New Orleans, and will wrap on Sept. 5 in Glendale, Ariz.
The shows in Drake’s hometown of Toronto, Canada, will be announced at a later date.
The tour is the “Jimmy Cooks” artist’s first since his 2018 trek, Aubrey & the Three Amigos. According to the press release, as the title suggests, the It’s All a Blur Tour is “a celebration of the last decade.”
Tickets for the new dates will be available at the general onsale, which kicks off Friday (March 17) at noon local time on DrakeRelated.com.

Drake is going back on the road. On Monday (March 13), the 6 God, and Live Nation, announced that he’s going on the It’s All A Blur Tour with 21 Savage.
Sponsored by CashApp, Visa and Sprite, the tour kicks off Friday, June 16 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and hits cities like Houston, Miami, Atlanta and Chicago before wrapping up nationally on Tuesday, September 5 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, AZ. Worth noting is that Drizzy’s tour has four New York City dates—July 17 and 18 in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center and July 25 and 26 at Madison Square Garden.

Two of the biggest names in Hip-Hop, Drake and Lil Baby, might be teaming up on a future album according to a recent podcast appearance by a producer.
In a recent interview on the Podcast and Chill With Mac G which aired Monday (March 6), the producer Black Coffee was asked about the various celebrity encounters he’s had. The conversation soon turned to his linking up with Quality Control co-founder Keith “Coach K” Lee in Atlanta.
“We go to dinner. We got to the club. I play my sets,” Coffee added. “He’s like, ‘We’re going to my strip club.’ I have never been. And this is what Atlanta is known for. And he said to me, ‘Lil Baby and Drake are making an album. It’s possible that Drake is retiring.’” The interview concludes shortly after. Black Coffee recently worked with Drake on his last solo album, Honestly, Nevermind.
There has been no confirmation from representatives of Drake or Lil Baby. If it’s true that the two are collaborating on a new album, this would be the third joint musical venture the Canadian superstar has entered into with an Atlanta-based rapper. Drake is still enjoying the rave reviews from the Her Loss album he did with 21 Savage, which was released last November. And in 2015, he and Future teamed up to record and drop What a Time to be Alive.
The Certified Lover Boy has hinted at making an early exit from music, doing so in a recent interview with Lil Yachty. “I’m at the point now where I just want to, like, and I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day, but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” he said at the time.

The 6 God feels remorseful about rapping about his former love interests in his songs.
Speaking with Lil Yachty for the premiere episode of his FUTUREMOOD’s A Moody Conversation series, the 36-year-old Canadian Hip-Hop star had a moment of self-reflection.
“Maybe I coulda done without, like, s—ting on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life,” the “God’s Plan” crafter said speaking about his exes.

“The lyrics are never with ill intent, but I had somebody tell me one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me, it’s the fact that you said it,” Drizzy told Lil Yachty.
Drake went even deeper talking about a conversation with an ex about him name-dropping her in a song.
She told the OVO general, “You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the time, or you don’t know what my family knows or doesn’t know. And if you express any form of discontent for me and call me by name in a song, then all of a sudden I’m left to pick up the pieces of my own life that I’ve tried to build up for myself.”
“So I’ve tried my best to stop doing that,” Drake continued. “But I like to be honest in music too, so that one’s a push and pull.”
We guess that is a sign of growth.
Drake has gone on to boastfully rap on songs about hooking up with Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and SZA. He brought up the singer’s name on his track “Mr. Right Now.”
“Yeah, said she wanna f— to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08,” he rapped.

The Dreamville Festival 2023 has cemented itself as a must-attend event. On Tuesday (Feb. 28), Live Nation and Dreamville announced that J. Cole and Usher will be headlining the 2-day event, with Drake serving as the former’s special guest.
The J. Cole and Dreamville team revealed the full music lineup for the Dreamville Festival, which will return to Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 1-2.

It seems Drake and 21 Savage have one less thing to worry about. They have reportedly settled their legal issues with Vogue Magazine.
As spotted on Complex, the rapper duo have come to terms with the fashion publication. In 2022 the two took the promotional efforts of their collaborative album Her Loss into their own hands. Along with a fake Howard Stern Show interview and a mock Tiny Desk performance, Drake and 21 Savage also photoshopped themselves onto a Vogue Magazine cover. Naturally, the stunt landed on Condé Nast’s radar prompting the conglomerate to file legal suit against the MCs.
Semafor has acquired an internal memorandum sent by Vogue’s legal counsel Will Bowes indicating that Drake and 21 Savage have settled.
“As a creative company, we of course understand our brands may from time to time be referenced in other creative works,” Bowes said. “In this instance, however, it was clear to us that Drake and 21 Savage leveraged Vogue’s reputation for their own commercial purposes and, in the process, confused audiences who trust Vogue as the authoritative voice on fashion and culture.”
Details on the settlement agreement have not been disclosed. Neither rapper has commented on the matter.
