If you loved Donald Glover’s version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video, we are happy to tell you it is coming back for a second round. However, the title characters will probably not look the same when it does.

Variety reports that Prime Video has renewed the reboot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith for a second season. That’s fantastic news.

The show originally starred Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as the titular spies, who developed feelings for each other, complicating their work.
According to Variety’s reporting, Glover and Erskine will not reprise their roles in the series when season two begins production.
Huh?
While Glover is not starring in the fantastic Prime Video series, he will still get a co-creator of the show credit while still serving as the executive producer with Francesca Sloane, who will return as showrunner.
Amazon MGM Studios’ Jennifer Salke spoke on the series renewal, “We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, Mr. and Mrs. SmithThe official description of the series reads, “In the first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”
Consider us curious to learn who will replace Glover and Erskine on the show if they don’t return.

Billy Dee Williams recently declared that a return as Star Wars icon Lando Calrissian is possible – if there’s a lot of money involved.
In a recent interview with the UK-based Radio Times publication, the legendary actor Billy Dee Williams was asked about potentially returning to the role of Lando Calrissian, the iconic character that he originated in the Star Wars Universe. Williams last played the space brigand-turned-hero in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. “Pay me a lot of money, and I’ll sell my soul,” Williams responded succinctly.

That led to Williams being asked about Donald Glover and his portrayal of a younger version of Lando Calrissian in the prequel movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, which was released in 2018. “He’s part of a whole new generation. He’ll create whatever he needs to create, to bring appeal to the character. He’s a very talented young lad and very imaginative,” Williams said of Glover’s portrayal.
The actor and writer, fresh off of his turn in Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, is currently working on a new Lando movie project with Lucasfilm. “I mean, it’s not for me to say what he should do with the character at this stage. I took care of the 20th century, now he’s got to take care of the 21st.”
Williams linked up with Glover one-on-one last year to talk about the role and to relay some advice. “I had a nice little lunch with him,” he said of the meeting. “He’s a delightful young man. Extremely talented. But I don’t see him… I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian there’s only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character,” he said. “I told him to be charming – two words! That’s all I needed to tell him. That’s all I could think of.”
The 86-year-old has been quite busy in the last few months as he’s been touring to promote his recently released autobiography, What Have We Here? Portraits of A Life.

The immigration ordeal that 21 Savage endured back in 2019 leading to his arrest will get a stylistic depiction via film starring actors Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin. Both actors will portray 21 Savage at various stages of his life and a new trailer shows off the pair, face tattoos and all.
Stylized on YouTube as the american dream: the 21 savage story, the trailer for the film, directed by Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori, Fam Udeorji, and Luis Perez, opens with Donald Glover, donning dreadlocks, being arrested by ICE officials and hauled off to prison. As the clip progresses, Caleb McLaughlin, playing the younger version of 21, is seen facing off with the rapper inside an interrogation room, displaying 21 delivering a new song.

Further in the clip, actress Gail Bean, apparently playing a family member of 21, speaks to McLaughlin in character, and another scene shows popular social media star Druski bullying the rapper. Later in the trailer, Glover depicts in a scene how 21 arrived at his stage name while in a recording studio.
Written by Jamal Olori and Stephen Glover, the film does not yet have a release date but is created in conjunction with Lionsgate, Epic Records, and 21 Savage’s Slaughter Gang imprint. The film also stars Jabari Banks, Chad Lindberg, Victoria Pedretti, Young Mazino, and Natasha Lyonne.
One can imagine with the Glover brothers involved, the film will take twists and turns outside of a normal biopic. Check out the trailer below.

Donald Glover’s Atlanta days might be over, but the man is ready to take on some new adventures in Amazon Prime’s upcoming Mr. & Mrs. Smith series.

Very similar to the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, this new version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith centers around two spies (Donald Glover and Maya Erskine) who pose as a married couple while taking on assignments that lead to fights, shootouts and bodies being left on the living room floor. While we don’t exactly view Donald Glover as the James Bond type, the man has proven himself to be quite the talented actor over the past few years, so y’all can expect an impressive performance in this upcoming series.
According to Prime Video:

In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?
Don’t be surprised if these two end up falling in love at some point.
It’s a shame that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie basically hate each other these days as it would’ve been cool to see them make some kind of cameo at some point in the eight-episode series.
Check out the trailer for Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith below and let us know if you’ll be checking for on Amazon Prime when it debuts Feb. 2, 2024.

Donald Glover will be reprising his role as a young Lando Calrissian again, but it won’t be as a Disney+ series.
Lando Calrissian will be back, and his first adventure will be on the big screen. Originally supposed to be a series on Disney+, Donald Glover’s Lando will be getting his own standalone Star Wars film, the actor’s young brother and longtime collaborator, Stephen revealed.

Donald Glover is taking Star Wars back to its home galaxy — the cinema. In an episode of the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, his younger brother, Stephen, spilled some tea about their joint Star Wars project, a spinoff following Lando Calrissian. The character was most recently embodied by Donald Glover in Solo, Disney, and Lucasfilms’ expensive box-office flop, taking the mantle from the original actor, Billy Dee Williams.
The Glovers took over the project originally directed by Dear White People writer-director Justin Simien. “It’s not even a show … the idea right now is to do a movie,” Glover told Torre during the podcast episode.
“Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information,” he continued. Initially, this news felt like a slip of the tongue, but per Variety’s reporting, Lucasfilm did confirm Stephen was telling the truth.
Well, yes to more Lando, and yes to it being in theaters. We hope it’s a much better movie than Solo: A Star Wars Story because that flick was very mid.

Looks like Donald Glover is going to be quite the busy man for the foreseeable future as the actor/musician has been tapped by Disney to pen a new series centered around his Star Wars character, Lando Calrissian.

Months after it was reported that Glover would be producing and starring in a Spider-Man spinoff film, Above The Line is now confirming that Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, are working on a new Lando series for the Disney+ app. Reprising his role from Ron Howard’s 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, Glover will once again don the intergalactic purple player cloak as he soars through the stars of the universe in search of new adventures and maybe a Colt 45 along the way.

Above The Line reports:

The Glover brothers replace Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien on the project, which was first announced by Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy back in December 2020 as part of Disney Investor Day. At the time, there was no word regarding whether Donald Glover or Billy Dee Williams would be returning as Lando, though current plans obviously call for Donald’s return, as it’s unlikely that he’d write the script for another actor to play the smooth-talking smuggler.
On Thursday, the Hollywood Reporter shared Simien’s response to the question of whether he was still attached to Lando: “I am attached, I think, but I don’t really know. (Laughs.) The last thing I was told was that they loved it but needed to put a pin in it until they could figure out everybody’s availability. I haven’t investigated further, but I’m not an idiot.”
It seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for reasons unknown,” Simien added.
Unfortunately, Simien’s commitment to Disney’s Haunted Mansion film pulled him away from Lando, but luckily it turned into Glover and his brother picking up the project. After reaching out to Donald and Stephen Glover, Disney was apparently “excited” with Donald and Stephen’s take on the upcoming Star Wars spinoff series, so of course so are we as Donald has proven to be quite the creative mind when he puts pen to paper.
What do y’all think of Disney handing over the Lando reigns to the Glover brothers? Does this excite you for the Lando series? Let us know in the comments section below.

Drake is firing back at Childish Gambino — albeit subtly. Swarm, the new Amazon Prime series from Janine Nabers and Donald Glover, inspired a flurry of conversations around so-called “stan culture,” parasocial relationships, and the obsessive nature of some music fans. While the series doesn’t necessarily hide from running parallel to the fandom that surrounds a certain Houston, Texas superstar, the program actually serves as an examination of the deeper and often dark side of obsession.
With the promise that this piece will remain spoiler-free as possible, Swarm, which stars the excellent Dominique Fishback in the role of Andrea “Dre” Greene, is at times a very uncomfortable watch.

The opening episode, “Stung,” was directed by Glover and written by Nabers and the director. There exists heavy-handed “wink wink nudge nudge” references to Beyoncé and the BeyHive, but it becomes more about the singular mission of Dre to get next to the show’s fictional pop star, Ni’Jah, a powerhouse artist and performer who commands the so-called “Swarm” — a collection of fans who will ride on anyone who dares the critique their fave.
Naturally, the satirical sendup of fandoms seen within the series mirrors much of what plays out on social media with mega-popular stars. Names on social media that reference the stars the users revere, devoted fans draped in merchandise from the artist, and an abject willingness to defend the honor of the celebrities by verbally attacking critics with ferocity. As most are discovering, Dre handles the enemies of Ni’Jah with murderous intent which highlights the show’s brutal horror elements.
Since the show’s March 17 air date, much has been made of Glover’s intentions with the program including some believing Swarm is a subtle, if unfounded, continuation of his hatred for Black women. Yes, Glover did express some interesting thoughts about what he expected of Fishback in the role of Dre in a Vulture feature story with Fishback, which asked her to channel an animalistic quality. But does that mean he harbors hatred for Black women? It isn’t for us to say.
Other observers noted that Glover seemingly depicted Black women in a bad light or lacking complexity in the hit series Atlanta, and then there is the fact that Glover isn’t married to a Black woman. This isn’t meant to be a defense against the claims of hate but certainly detracts from the fact Glover largely got out of the way after the first episode and let his team handle the rest.
The decision by some to criticize and center Glover instead of Nabers, a talented playwright, and producer in her own right, steals some of the thunder away from the writing room, Fishback, and the dozens of actors and crew members who worked on the show. That same light is also taken from the efforts of established Black women writers on the show such as Karen Joseph Adcock, fledgling writers like Malia Obama, and rising writers such as Kara Brown along with Chloe Bailey and her performance.

Is Swarm perfect? Perhaps not. At its core, the series could simply stand as an indictment of “stan culture” and perhaps also that of the seedy underbelly of social media overall. In addition, it displays a Black woman completely disheveled and in need of loving care
It is heartbreaking at times to see how loss and the lack of others not leaning in to surround Dre with love and understanding affects her mental well-being. What we can say overall is that there is nothing on television quite like Swarm at the moment and it deserves a watch even if just for the sake of satisfying one’s curiosity.
Swarm is currently airing on the Amazon Prime streaming service.

Amazon Studios revealed Friday (Feb. 10) that Donald Glover‘s forthcoming TV series Swarm will premiere via Prime Video on March 17.

Swarm follows a young woman named Dre (played by Dominique Fishback) who is obsessed with a fictional pop star, who is reportedly similar to Beyoncé, according to Vanity Fair, and will dig deeper into her unhealthy obsession. And that similarity is evident in the show’s incredibly eerie teaser trailer, which has the pestering, buzzing sound of a bee and Twitter’s chirping sound underscoring the main question repeated throughout the clip: “Who is your favorite artist?”

Fishback, who’s also the show’s producer, stars alongside Damson Idris and Chlöe Bailey, who’s signed to Bey’s label Parkwood Entertainment alongside her sister and Chloe x Halle counterpart Halle Bailey.

Swarm is also set as the opening-night TV premiere at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 10.

Glover worked on the series with Janine Nabers, who was a writer and producer on his Emmy-winning FX series Atlanta and is Swarm‘s showrunner. The multihyphenate star directed the pilot episode, while his brother Stephen Glover, Fam Udeorji, Steven Prinz and Michael Schaefer serve as executive producers. Malia Obama, daughter of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, is also involved in Swarm in the writer’s room. Swarm comes from Amazon Studios and Gilga.
