Daytime Emmys
The Kelly Clarkson Show won outstanding daytime talk series for the fourth consecutive year at the 2024 Daytime Emmys, which were held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday (June 7) and broadcast on CBS. Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner co-hosted the show.
Kelly Clarkson has won eight Daytime Emmys over the first five seasons of her popular talk show (compared to three Grammys over a much longer period of time).
In accepting the award for outstanding daytime talk series, Clarkson gave special thanks to NBC for listening to her concerns when she proposed moving the show from Los Angeles to New York. “I told them, ‘My life is not going super great,’ and they helped us move,” she said. “It’s been so great for not just me and my family, but for the show. Thank you for thinking of mental health and not just a product.”

Clarkson presented the first award of the night. The producers of the awards show presumably wanted to signal to the TV audience that she was in the house. Clarkson had not attended the Daytime Emmys in recent years.
Clarkson did not, however, win outstanding daytime talk series host, an award she had won the last four years running. The award went instead to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, the married stars of the syndicated Live With Kelly and Mark. It was a surprise win: Ripa and Consuelos weren’t in attendance, causing the show to run a little short.
This was Ripa’s sixth win in that category. Only three other hosts have won six or more times in the history of the category, which dates to 1974. Phil Donahue leads with nine awards in the category, followed by Oprah Winfrey (seven) and Rosie O’Donnell (also six). What’s most impressive about Ripa’s track record in the category is that she has won alongside four different co-hosts. She and Regis Philbin won twice in the category. She and Michael Strahan also won twice. She and Ryan Seacrest won once.
TV legend Dick Van Dyke won guest performance in a daytime drama series for his appearance on Days of our Lives on Peacock. At 98, Van Dyke is the oldest Daytime Emmy winner in history. “If I had known I was going to live that long, I would have taken better care of myself,” Van Dyke joked in accepting the honor. Van Dyke, who was featured on the Mary Poppins soundtrack, which topped the Billboard 200 for 14 weeks in 1965, was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1995 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2020.
Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays (Food Network), hosted by Selena Gomez, was nominated for outstanding culinary series. It lost to Be My Guest With Ina Garten.
Amanda Kloots and Jerry O’Connell, Emmy-nominated co-hosts of The Talk, opened the show with a special-material version of Petula Clark’s classic “Downtown,” a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965. The rewrite was pretty corny, a throwback to the era when such segments were a staple of variety and awards shows.
The In Memoriam segment included entertainment reporter Sam Rubin (KTLA, Los Angeles) and actor and host Louis Gossett Jr.
If it doesn’t seem like a full year has gone by since the last Daytime Emmys, you’re on to something. The 2023 Daytime Emmys were held on Dec. 15. They were delayed six full months because of last year’s strikes by the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA.
The Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 8. It will stream live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT at watch.TheEmmys.tv and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV, and Roku.
The 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards was produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong were executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie was executive producer from ATI.
Here are the 2024 Daytime Emmy nominations in selected categories, with winners marked. Categories with no winners marked will be presented on Saturday’s show. This list will be updated at that time. In program categories, we show only the name(s) of the most senior executive producer(s) who are nominees.

The nominations for the 2024 Daytime Emmys were announced on Friday (April 19). The Kelly Clarkson Show is out to defend its title as outstanding daytime talk series against four challengers – The Jennifer Hudson Show (which was also nominated in the category last year), Tamron Hall, The View and Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts.
Kelly Clarkson is also defending her title as outstanding daytime talk series host. Clarkson is squaring off against Tamron Hall (who was also nominated in the category last year), the hosts of The View and The Talk, and Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa from Live with Kelly and Mark. Ripa was nominated in this category last year with her former co-host, Ryan Seacrest. Consuelos, to whom Ripa is married, took Seacrest’s place on the show when the Busiest Man in Show Business decided to be just a little less busy. Jennifer Hudson and Robin Roberts weren’t nominated in this category this year.
Clarkson has won seven Daytime Emmys over the first four seasons of her popular talk show. Hudson has yet to win a Daytime Emmy for her talk show, though she did win one in 2021 for outstanding interactive media for a daytime program for Baba Yaga – on her way to becoming an EGOT.

Drew Barrymore, who was nominated for both outstanding daytime talk series and outstanding daytime talk series host last year with The Drew Barrymore Show, wasn’t nominated in either category this year.
Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays (Food Network), hosted by Selena Gomez, is nominated for outstanding culinary series. It is competing with series headlined by such celebs as Ina Garten, Valerie Bertinelli and Zooey Deschanel.
TV legend Dick Van Dyke, 98, is nominated for guest performance in a daytime drama series for his appearance on Days of our Lives on Peacock.
If it doesn’t seem like a full year has gone by since the last Daytime Emmys, you’re on to something. The 2023 Daytime Emmys were held on Dec. 15. They had been delayed six full months because of last year’s strikes by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA.
The 51st Daytime Emmy Awards telecast will be presented live on Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m. ET (delayed PT) on CBS, and will available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. This will mark the 18th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmys, which is more than any other network.
The Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be presented the following night. It will stream live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 8, at watch.TheEmmys.tv and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV, and Roku.
Both ceremonies will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles. Ticket sales will begin Wednesday, May 1. Lifetime achievement honorees, hosts, presenters, and silver and gold circle honorees will be announced at a later date.
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.
The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974. In 2021, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced some rule changes on Thursday (Feb. 1), which include requiring potential nominees in music categories to supply more information. “For categories identified as music categories (these are music direction and composition and original song in the Daytime Emmys), nominees will be REQUIRED to provide complete publishing […]
Kelly Clarkson and her hit daytime talk show kept up their winning streaks at the 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards, which was finally broadcast live on CBS on Friday, Dec. 15. The show aired six months after the originally announced airdate, June 16, a delay caused by strikes by Hollywood writers and actors. (The nominations were announced way back on April 26.)
Clarkson won daytime talk series host despite the fact that hosts of “informative” and “entertainment” shows were made to compete this year. There had separate winners for the two genres in recent years. Clarkson won outstanding entertainment talk show host the last three years.
Likewise, The Kelly Clarkson Show won outstanding daytime talk series, even though “informative” and “entertainment” series competed there too. Clarkson’s show won outstanding talk show, entertainment the last two years. This year the show bested returning nominees The Drew Barrymore Show, Live With Kelly and Ryan and Today With Hoda and Jenna as well as first-time nominee The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Clarkson has now won seven Daytime Emmys over her series’ first four seasons. This compares to three Grammy Awards over a much longer period of time – 21 years. Clarkson is nominated for another Grammy at the Feb. 4 ceremony – best pop vocal album for Chemistry. She and Adele are currently tied for the most wins in that category – two each.
Clarkson wasn’t present to accept her awards for the second year in a row. Should she show up to support the industry (and the awards show) that has been so good to her? Probably.
Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner hosted the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys, held at the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles. They also accepted that program’s award for entertainment news series.
Jennifer Nettles sang “Life Is Sweet” over the In Memoriam segment, which included such daytime TV legends as Barbara Walters and Bob Barker, as well as Olivia Newton-John (who wrote songs for As the World Turns), Three’s Company star Suzanne Somers, and Stephen “tWitch” Boss, best known for his role as a dancer, air personality and producer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Daytime TV icon Susan Lucci received lifetime achievement honors at the ceremony. Lucci famously lost the Daytime Emmy 18 times for playing Erica Kane on All My Children before finally winning on her 19th try. Carol Burnett, Andy Cohen and Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos were among those who paid tribute to Lucci via video clips.
Longtime TV, radio and red-carpet host and producer Tanya Hart and veteran music/variety producer Al Schwartz were among those being ushered into the Academy’s Gold Circle, honoring people with 50 years of accomplishment. Hart is best-known for her work on American Urban Radio Networks, BET and E! Entertainment. Schwartz is best known for his long association with Dick Clark on such shows as the American Music Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. This is the first time these awards have presented at the national level. These awards were presented by tabloid talk show veteran Maury Povich, who is slated to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Creative Arts Daytime Emmys on Saturday Dec. 16.
The Daytime Emmys also paid tribute to Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray, two long-running talk shows that ended their runs this season.
The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974. In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards was produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong were executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie was executive producer from ATI.
In a highly unusual scheduling move, The Daytime Creative Arts and Lifestyle Emmy ceremony will stream live on Saturday Dec. 16, the day after the main telecast, at Watch.TheEmmys.TV and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV and Roku. That show will also be held at the Westin Bonaventure. Will that show seem anti-climactic coming after the main event? Probably.

“Today we not only honor this year’s outstanding programs and individuals, we mark a milestone in television history,” NATAS president & CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement. “Our golden anniversary celebrates the talented creators who have made the last 50 years of daytime television so unforgettable.”
The Daytime Emmys will air live on CBS and stream live on Paramount + on June 16. This will mark the 17th time CBS has broadcast the show.
