Recently, it was reported that a court-ordered Dame Dash‘s share of Roc-A-Fella records to be auctioned off to satisfy his mounting debt. Now, Jay-Z is hitting potential bidders with a “Buyer Beware” notice as his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, is the crown jewel of Dash’s stake in the record label.
According to TMZ, Jay-Z is taking legal action regarding the auction of Dame Dash’s 33.3% ownership of Roc-A-Fella Records, which will begin with a starting bid of $1.2 million. While we assumed Jay-Z would just participate in the auction and put up whatever amount of money is needed to get back the majority of his old record label, it seems like he’s going a different route and letting potential buyers know that Reasonable Doubt will be his in just a few years regardless of who ends up with Dame Dash’s share of the label.
Per TMZ:
While Roc-A-Fella currently holds the copyright on the record and all its tracks … Jay’s attorneys have now filed notice that those rights will revert to one Shawn Carter/”Jay-Z” in 2031.
Even though Jay and Dame ain’t exactly vibing these days, this legal move isn’t about revenge, it’s just biz — the rights would have gone back to Jay 35 years after the record was released, anyway. His lawyers have just filed the paperwork to make it official.
So, what does this mean for the August 29 auction? Whoever ends up winning Dame’s shares — minimum bid is $1.2 million — will enjoy one-third of all “Reasonable Doubt” revenues … but only for about the next 6 years and change. Then it’s all Jay’s.
Well, that certainly won’t sit well with anyone bidding on Roc-A-Fella’s illustrious catalog.
How will this affect the auction remains to be seen but putting down more than $1.2 million on something that’s going to have its biggest asset removed in six years doesn’t seem like a sound investment. Just saying.

Just a week ago it was reported that Dame Dash was about to sell his stake in Jay-Z’s classic debut album, Reasonable Doubt. But now, it seems like Dash will be forced to sell much more than he originally intended.
According to TMZ, a court has just ruled that Dame Dash will have to sell his entire share of Roc-A-Fella Records as his money woes continue to pile up. According to the report, Dash will have his 33.3% in the iconic record label auctioned off by a U.S. Marshall on Aug. 29. For serious bidders who plan on getting in on the action, they’ll have to send an email to attorney Christopher Brown in order to register for the upcoming event.
Naturally, the biggest gem here is Dash’s share of Reasonable Doubt. With rumors having swirled that Jay-Z had been trying to get that back from Dame for a while now, we wouldn’t be surprised if a representative for Hova ends up with the winning bid for Dame’s share of Roc-A-Fella Records.
TMZ reports:
Brown, as you may know, represents film director Josh Webber, who secured an $800K-plus civil judgment against Dash for copyright infringement and defamation two years ago.
Webber and Muddy Water Pictures produced “Dear Frank” and filed suit against Dash after claiming he went around and told people he owned the rights to the movie even after he was dropped from the project.
The court docs specify the purpose of the auction is to collect on the judgment. The docs also note Jay Z’s album “Reasonable Doubt” is the biggest asset Roc-A-Fella owns.
It will be quite the pricey entrance fee for anyone interested in the auction as the starting bid will be $1.2 million, with the winning bid having to put down 20% of the final tally as soon as the auction ends. We all know that’s pocket change to someone like Jay. Just sayin’.

It seems Dame Dash is very serious about letting his share of Reasonable Doubt go. He announced it is for sale.
As reported by HotNewHip-Hop, the Harlem, New York, native recently took to social media to let the world know that his piece of Jay-Z’s debut is available for a price. On Friday, July 19, he posted the album artwork with a rather undiplomatic caption stating he is taking offers. “This sh*t is for sale 1/3 … only real inquiries only,” he wrote. The second photograph on the Instagram post is a visual of Jay-Z, Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke from the project’s original CD booklet.
Naturally, the post quickly went viral and received over 10,000 comments within 24 hours. Lupe Fiasco left a comment, which has since been deleted, urging Drake to buy it. “@champagnepapi will keep it safe for generations to come. This is grail and influenced an innumerable amount of rappers to see it peddle such a lack of grace genuinely hurts my feelings a little bit.” Lupe went on to recommend that Dash hold on to his share saying, “Or just keep the s**t OG you should be infinitely proud of this. Without it there is no me as I am and I’m sure other MCs will agree.”
This is not the first time the former Cakeaholic has tried to sell his 33% ownership in the 1996 effort. During an appearance on the Veuit podcast, Dash revealed that Jay-Z offered him $1.5 million dollars for his stake but he told his former partner no. Earlier this year, Cam’ron and Mase alluded to buying Dame’s share, but the transaction was never confirmed.
Last month, he reached out to Kendrick Lamar via IG after he unearthed an old social post from K Dot from 2010. “I’m sorry, Reasonable Doubt is better than Illmatic…. #youcanunfollowmenow” it read to which Dame posted, “@kendricklamar my 3rd is for sale if you want to buy it.” Kendrick never publicly responded to Dame Dash’s offer.

Dame Dash will have to seek new legal representation. His lawyers have served him resignation papers due to unpaid fees.
HotNewHipHop is reporting that the Harlem, New York, native’s debts continue to increase. Last week, Felton T. Newell and Justin H. Sanders, Esqs., of Sanders Roberts LLP formally abandoned their positions as the lawyers on record for the media mogul. The reasons they cited included “breach of contractual obligations to the firm” and claimed Dame Dash “failed to fulfill their financial obligations under their retainer agreement, resulting in the firm initiating an enforcement action against them.”
The firm was representing Dame Dash in his court battle against Monique Bunn. Back in 2023, the photographer claimed he sexually assaulted her but he was eventually cleared of any wrong doing. According to documents obtained by HipHopDX, she has since requested that the case be reopened citing the jury did not understand the gravity of the damages she suffered. Bunn also states that she was not compensated for her work and that Dame Dash.
“The evidence at trial – which was uncontroverted – established that each photo was worth $1,500, which should have resulted in a verdict for at least $384,750,000,” the 285-page document read. “It is well known that professional photographers earn much of their income through licensing their portfolio of photographs, and Defendants’ actions destroyed Ms. Bunn’s economic prospects. The jury ignored the valuation evidence and awarded zero to Ms. Bunn.”
Dame Dash has yet to formally respond to the matter. You can read through the lawyer’s notice of resignation below.

Cam’ron and Dame Dash have had a tight relationship for decades, which many felt might’ve played a part in the downfall of Roc-A-Fella Records. So when OG Hip-Hop exec Steve Stoute put the blame of the Roc’s breakup squarely on the shoulders of Dame, Cam and Mase came to the defense of Jay-Z’s former business partner.
In a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, Steve Stoute suggested that Jay-Z outgrew Dame Dash’s “crazy” antics while they were working together at Roc-A-Fella and wanted to pursue bigger and better things. Taking issue with Stoute’s perspective on the matter, Cam’ron and Mase stood up for Dame on their show, It Is What It Is. Cam and Mase talked about how Dame put a lot of people in a position to win in life and even inspired Cam to take his career more seriously than he was at the time.
After Mase reminded everyone that Dame gave a lot of Harlemites jobs in the music industry, Cam chimed in. “Oh, absolutely. It’s a bunch of people outside of me that are still in prominent positions now,” Cam said.
“Dame gets perceived the wrong way because of his attitude. He’s very arrogant but he’s very smart. But the thing about it is, Dame is going to do what works for Dame and at this point you got to accept him,” Cam said. “Either love him or hate him for who he is ’cause he’s not changing, and he’s been successful at helping build $100 million companies — not just one, but multiple,” the “Oh Boy” rapper continued.
“And some people are never going to see $100 million in they life, so I think he’s capable of doing anything in the world. But sometimes to me, to Cam, the way he presents himself to other people is a turn off. He’s an acquired taste, pause.”

Dame for his part didn’t take kindly to Steve Stoute’s take on the Roc’s downfall. He took to IG to express his feelings on the matter by posting a clip of Stoute’s interview with a caption that read, “This is the reason I had to smack the shit out of @stevestoute a couple years ago…because he’s always speaking on other men’s business good thing I’ve evolved #staytuned”
Steve Stoute got slapped up by Dame Dash and Diddy (allegedly) on separate occasions?! That man gotta stop messing around with dudes who got the letter “D” in their names or something.
What do y’all think of the situation? Was Dame to blame for Roc-A-Fella breaking up? Should Stoute be throwing his 2 cents in on the matter? Let us know in the comments section below.

Dame Dash continues to be vocal about his former business partners. He claims Lyor Cohen is taking advantage of Young Thug while he sits in jail.
As spotted on Hip Hop DX, the Harlem, New York, native is continuing to own his narrative via his America Nu Network. In the newest episode of The CEO Show, Dame spoke with battle Rap legend and media personality, Math Hoffa. While the conversation lasted close to an hour, as expected, the Roc-A-Fella Records founder had a couple of hot takes that quickly went viral. One specifically was his opinion on Young Thug’s current legal issues.
“For me, if I see a kid that’s making music about sh*t that’s gonna get him killed because he’s really doing it, I don’t think I’m putting they records out. I’m not going [to] enable that child” Dash said. “When I look at Young Thug, I’m like, Lyor and them just made a big check and he’s going to jail. They made money off his music.” Dash went on to further detail why he thinks Cohen is doing bad business. “So if they made money off that music and he’s in jail for that, then all that money they made off the music should not go to them. How do they get to get all that money and he has to get a jail cell?”
While Dame Dash continues to champion for the artist, it seems he’s still dealing with some finance issues. Hip Hop DX is also reporting his legal team has filed documentation to formally sever ties with their client over unpaid services. According to documentation obtained by AllHipHop, Sanders Roberts LLP stated that he “failed to fulfill their financial obligations under their retainer agreement, resulting in the firm initiating an enforcement action against them.” Sanders Roberts LLP not only represented the business mogul but also Damon Dash Studios, Poppington LLC and Raquel Horn.

Dame Dash might have just cracked the code on Kanye West’s unique fashion sense, He says Yeezy is on a troll assignment.
HipHopDX is reporting that the serial entrepreneur was the latest guest on Willie D’s podcast. The Harlem, New York native discussed a variety of topics ranging from Lyor Cohen to his newest business ventures. When asked about his former recording artist he reasoned that Kanye’s behavior in recent years should not be a surprise to anyone who is familiar with the MC’s history.
“He’s a person that pulls triggers,” Dame Dash explained. “Look at his career. [He said] ‘George Bush doesn’t like Black people,’ ran up on Taylor Swift. It’s one publicity stunt after another. That’s his model is triggering you. Just like Trump – every time Trump says something racist and we hate it, somebody loves it. He’s not talking for us. He’s talking for the ones that love it, Trump. So it’s the same thing.”
Dame went on further urge every one not to blink when it comes to Kanye’s at times bizarre modus operandi. “That’s why I don’t pay him no mind. He’s a troll. He got everybody dressing like a crackhead, bro. He’s doing this sh*t on purpose” he said. “I know what you’re doing, you’re trolling. He walk around barefoot, he’s trolling. ‘Watch this I can get dudes to wear tights and barefoot!’ I’m not saying we had that convo. When I see it I’m like, ‘Yo, he bugging,’ but I know he’s playing. You know? He wants you to get at him. Why would he do the things he does if he doesn’t want the reaction?”

Dame Dash is looking for some leniency regarding his child support payments to Rachel Roy. He says he is struggling and can no longer afford to pay her the current amount.
TMZ is reporting that the Harlem, New York native is no longer claiming to be a Cake-A-Holic. This week he filed a formal request asking that his monthly agreement with former wife Rachel Roy be significantly lowered. The business mogul states that he has yet to recover from the pandemic and has been struggling from mid 2020. Dame Dash alleges many of his businesses have yet to take off causing him to only earn an alarmingly low $5,140 dollars for all of 2023. His previous child support agreement required him to pay her $5,000 dollars a month.
Rachel is not buying the his poor man’s story and says he is hiding his income. She says he still receives revenue from his piece of Roc-A-Fella Records which includes some of Kanye West’s and Jay-Z’s best work. Additionally, she says he has other ventures that generate him money which include a streaming service, a spirits company, a clothing brand and more.
During a segment from The CEO SHOW back in October he openly discussed his entrepreneurial struggles. “I’ve had to start [a] new company from scratch, without any money to start it with,” he said. “I had to do it [by] rubbing two sticks together. So I can’t pay out three or four hundred thousand a year in child support, ‘cause I ain’t making that. But I’m not ashamed of that because I have things to show for it, but it hasn’t profited yet. I’m like a proud broke, but it ain’t broke, because I have things to show for it.”
A judge has yet to rule on Dame Dash’s request for a lower child support payment agreement.

Dame Dash is still talking Roc-A-Fella and not everyone agrees with his history of things. Young Guru has refuted his claims that Jay-Z stole songs from his artists.
XXL Magazine is reporting that the acclaimed engineer has spoken out against his at one time label CEO. Recently Dame Dash was a guest on Ray Daniels’ The Gauds Show podcast. While the former Cake-A-Holic discussed a variety of topics relating to his career and current ventures, the subject of Jay-Z being an alleged opportunist. “Jay has a record of getting on a record after it gets hot and now he can perform that record and now it sounds like he made that record. But it already was hot. That was a model he did” Dame said.
Dash would also go on to say that Jay-Z stole some of his biggest songs. “Ja Rule’s record ‘Can I Get A…,’ that was Ja Rule’s record. ‘I’m a hustler, baby!’ [‘I Just Wanna Love U’], that was [Omillio] Sparks’ record” he added. “That’s the only reason why Sparks is on there, ’cause it was his record. So he does this thing where he says it’s your record, I’ll jump on and now it’s my record. It’s almost extortion.”
The clip soon went viral and Young Guru corrected Dame Dash on Twitter. “CAP on this narrative that jay STEALS songs” he wrote. Guru would explain how both records came to be saying “I Just Wanna Love U” was given to HOV directly by Pharrell Williams and that Irv Gotti gave Jay-Z “Can I Get A…”.

Dame Dash is in a great space years after severing ways with Jay-Z. The Roc-a-fella founder says is more than open to speaking to him to resolve their issues.
XXL Magazine is reporting that the Harlem, New York native recently discussed his former partner in great detail. During the newest episode of The CEO Show he and acclaimed Hip-Hop journalist Datwon Thomas talked the fall of Roc-A-Fella Records in relation to him and Hov. “When I look at what happened between me and Jay it’s like I blame Jay for letting it happen but all the people that really made it happen are the ones that are…benefiting from him the most now,” he explained. “I was stopping them from getting money. My friendship comes before the business. Either way unless he [Jay-Z] was down with it then it wouldn’t [have] happened.”
The former cake-a-holic went on to make it clear that he is willing to have a sit down with Jay-Z to discuss what went wrong. “Where I’m at now is that if Roc-A-Fella and the ones that weren’t billionaires want to get money on the right terms I’m down,” he said. “I’m telling you publicly I will [have the conversation]. And I’ve never not said that. But Jay’s never had that accountability to have that real conversation with me.” Dame Dash went on to add “I always said as a man that we could always talk it up. Men should always be able to talk things up, but I’m really happy with my life right now.”
While he is hopeful that the two can move on from the past don’t expect him to be doing his signature dance at any Jay-Z concert. “I know the world would love to see it and I’m down for it. If we could create something that inspires me, period. I don’t want to be f**king running on the stage dancing around I’m too chubby for that right now” he said.
