One of the culture’s biggest voices is looking to help the new generation of storytellers. Kai Cenat has launched the Streamer University.
As spotted on Hypebeast, the Brooklyn, New York, native is embarking on a new initiative. On Tuesday (May 7), he announced Streamer University. The project will invite content creators from all walks of life to take courses on how they can advance their skills and better give their respective brands a point of difference. As expected the announcement was presented via a skit. The video, which is inspired by the popular movie Harry Potter series, finds Cenat traveling to recruit an upcoming personality to the school. He expressed his enthusiasm in an accompanying Instagram post.
“I’m excited to extend to you a most heartfelt welcome to the very first class of Streamer University,” he said. “Here, you will find a school where chaos is encouraged and content is king. I look forward to seeing you all on campus for our first-ever semester.”
Kai Cenat originally teased the initiative back in February during a Twitch livestream. “I’m going to rent out a university over a course of a weekend. It will be streaming university. Okay? I’m going to rent it out.” He went on to add that he hoped to have Mr. Beast and Mark Rober teach courses. The Streamer University website further details the spirit of the educational institution. “Streamers of all backgrounds will have the opportunity to showcase their personalities as students, alongside both unrealized, upcoming and well-established creators,” the statement read.
Enrollment for Streamer University is open now. You can read more about the opportunity here.

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., is experiencing one of its most turbulent periods in its nearly nine years of existence and is currently without leadership after its executive director stepped down. The institution’s recent targeting by President Donald Trump over what his administration deems are “divisive” exhibits has raised concerns among advocates and observers. “Our opponents are trying to erase Black history, Black voices and Black lives,” said African American Policy Forum executive director Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw in an interview.Kevin Young was serving as the director of the NMAAHC until his resignation in early April, just as Trump issued an executive order entitled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” which took aim at the Smithsonian and the NMAAHC in particular as having “come under the influence of a divisive, race-centered ideology.” Young, who had been in the position since 2021, had actually been on leave since March 14. Unnamed sources had expressed that some felt that the position was too complex for Young, who had previously served as the head of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, New York, and is still the poetry editor for the New Yorker.
Smithsonian Institution Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III, however, praised Young’s work in making the NMAHHC more accessible for all during his tenure, citing recent exhibits such as one on Afrofuturism and design and a major exhibition on slavery, “In Slavery’s Wake,” which will travel to Europe, South America and Africa over the course of the year. In an internal memo, Bunch reiterated the intent to continue the museum’s mission, writing that “we remain committed to telling the multifaceted stories of this country’s extraordinary heritage.”Many in the Black community, led by Black churches, have rallied behind the NMAAHC through organizing rallies and fundraising drives as the Trump administration has debated whether to withhold federal funding. There have been reports of the administration removing exhibits from the museum such as parts of the Woolworth’s lunch counter from the sit-ins of the Civil Rights Era being removed, but those would be proven as inaccurate by Smithsonian leadership. Other items returned to those who donated them to the NMAAHC were explained as having been returned due to the end of their being leased to the museum.
Dillo Day, one of the nation’s largest student-run festivals, will return May 17 with a headlining performance from Natasha Bedingfield. This year’s festival will mark the 53rd annual event at Northwestern University’s lakefront campus in Evanston, Illinois.

Bedingfield – known for hits like “Unwritten,” “Pocketful of Sunshine” and “These Words” – will close out the daylong celebration after sets from genre-defying Chicago artist Ravyn Lenae and rising hip-hop artist and Texas native BigXthaPlug.
This year’s festival also marks a meaningful return to Dillo Day’s origins: Armadillo World Headquarters, the legendary Austin, Texas, music venue-turned-mission-driven cultural brand, will serve as an official partner of Dillo Day 2025. The festival’s moniker, “Dillo Day,” was originally coined by Northwestern students from Texas who were inspired by the vibrant Austin music scene and the Armadillo — a beloved symbol of their home state. The Armadillo partnership will featre various activations, including a classic Armadillo photo booth and merchandise giveaways.

Additional artists performing at Dillo Day include indie rock stars Slow Pulp and U.K.-based electronic success nimino. Past Dillo Day performers include Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Steve Aoki, Black Eyed Peas, Wiz Khalifa and The Ramones. The breadth of talent showcases the festival’s reputation for attracting both breakout and classic talent.
“Dillo Day is truly unlike any other college concert or festival in the world. We bring two stages of world-class talent to our students for free, as well as an entire festival ground outfitted with brand activations, food trucks and activities,” said Mayfest Productions co-chair Alex Kahn in a release. “The Mayfest Productions team works tirelessly all year to bring Dillo Day to life.”
Now in its 53rd year, the festival draws over 10,000 attendees, the majority of whom are Northwestern students. Organized entirely by undergraduate students through Mayfest Productions, Dillo Day is fully student-run — from artist booking and corporate sponsorship to marketing, operations and production.
Tickets for guests of undergraduates are $30, and $35 for graduate students, alumni and Evanston residents.
[Spoiler alert: This story contains the identity of the winner and runners-up revealed on Wednesday night’s (May 7) season 13 finale of The Masked Singer.]
In a season that has featured the unmasking of a mess of music stars — including Edwin McCain (Nessy), Method Man (Stud Muffin) and Flavor Flav (Space Ranger), plus actors Matthew Lawrence (Paparazzo), Candace Cameron Bure (Cherry Blossom) and James Van Der Beek (Griffin) and boxer Oscar De La Hoya (Fuzzy Peas), among others — when the confetti rained down on Wednesday night’s (May 7) Masked Singer finale, it was no surprise who came out on top.
Pearl shone the brightest on a night when she reigned supreme over the other three finalists — Boogie Woogie, Coral and Mad Scientist — after a season of dominating the competition with a perfectly executed mix of pop, R&B, rock, Latin and soul songs.
Trending on Billboard
If you were really paying attention to the clues this season, Pearl’s identity was plain to see. There was talk of a “tough exterior” you had to break through to find the treasure inside, making her own way by playing shows in discount stores and dive bars, Elvis, a bowl of cherries and Aphrodite, goddess of love. She also noted she grew up in a tiny town, split before finishing high school to work in a bar and said that when she started doing what she does, it launched a movement that opened the doors for many others.
The guesses were all over the place, with judge Robin Thicke thinking Melissa Etheridge, to Rita Orr tossing out rockers Pat Benatar and Joan Jett and always-wrong Ken Jeong wildly swinging with certainty that Madonna was under the mask (she wasn’t). Meanwhile, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg’s guesses over the season leaned country, including Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Kacey Musgraves — which turned out to be the right kind of lean.
There’s a very good reason Pearl came out on top, beginning with her gritty, emotional cover of Lesley Gore’s 1963 empowerment anthem “You Don’t Own Me,” which Thicke praised for being “sultry and swaggy,” with a touch of soul and grit. Proving her versatility, she also spread that grit on The Outfield’s 1986 rock anthem “Your Love,” then pivoted again with a hip-swiveling take on Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine’s 1985 classic “Conga.” Other highlights included a killer cover of Dolly Parton’s 1977 pop country No. 3 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Here You Come Again,” a rock pivot for Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and an impressive run through the Whitney Houston ballad “Saving All My Love For You.”
She secured the win with Wednesday night’s cover of KT Tunstall’s 2004 rocker “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” which sounded so much like it could have been one of her own songs that Jeong called her the “Meryl Streep of Masked Singer.” Her final song, The Pretenders’ epic ballad “I’ll Stand By You,” soared and, seemingly, locked in the season 13 crown for none other than country star Gretchen Wilson.
Her victory came over Boogie Woogie (Andy Grammer), Coral (Zombies‘ Meg Donnelly) and Mad Scientist (Florida Georgia Line country star and solo singer Brian Kelley).
The singer — whose breakthrough, Grammy-winning 2004 single “Redneck Woman” sat at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for five weeks — spoke to Billboard before her win about why now was the right time to do the show, how the flashy costume switched up her public persona and why she didn’t sing a song from her all-time favorite rock band.
This show had you doing more choreo than I imagine you’re used to, so much hip shaking and gyrating. Was that weird to you, or did the costume help alleviate any nerves?
The costume helped with everything. When I stepped into the costume, I was transformed, I became Pearl. All of the different sides of Gretchen Wilson that I’ve never felt comfortable enough to show just took the forefront in the costume. I saw it as an opportunity to show the world there’s a lot more to me than this redneck y’all keep talking about.
What as it about that sparkly costume that appealed to you? You usually are a black T-shirt and jeans kind of woman, and it’s so girly. [For the record, Wilson was wearing a black T-shirt and one sparkly, rhinestone-studded blue glove during our Zoom.]
It was just all of the things I’ve never felt comfortable to do as a grown woman. I took it and ran with it. It’s an uncomfortable costume. You don’t feel all that pretty in it because you’re mostly just sweating. But when you happen by a mirror and see it you’re like, “ooh!,” you just can’t help yourself. I thought it was really good exactly because of that: Everybody just thinks of a plain Jane, girl next door type of thing, and I thought this costume was perfect because it was so opposite of what anybody would ever think they’d see me behind.
You’ve had a wild ride in the music biz, scoring five top 10 singles on the Billboard country charts and then jumping to your own label, so I’m curious: What did you want to prove on the show?
I had some post-COVID health stuff, I’m a long-hauler. I’ve got medications I’ll have to take for the rest of my life — high blood pressure, asthma — these are all things I didn’t have right before COVID. I also was dancing with a 6-year-old boy at a wedding, spinning, spinning, spinning, then I lost myself and I shattered my ankle and my leg, so I spent eight months in a wheelchair in a cast. So all of this was happening to me the last couple of years and it really got me to the point where, health-wise, my weight, I was thinking, “I might be done. It could be over for me because I’m not sure I’ll be able to breathe out there and do this thing as a living anymore.” So when this opportunity came, it was a moment for me to go, “All right, I’ve struggled, I’ve got the weight down, the medication is helping and if I say yes to this and I can go do this then I can do anything.” If I can do this, I can do a 75-minute show in Yuma, Arizona, in August outside.
Your sound was so versatile on the show, from rock to country, pop, Latin and R&B. Why was that a priority for you?
First of all, because I could. I grew up in bar bands. When I was 16, I was in three to four bands all at once, and it was always covers, so I got my start like, “How much can I sound like this one?” That was sort of a hidden gem in my pocket that I had, being able to transform my voice.
You didn’t do a song by your favorite band Heart, though. Why not?
Like any show, only a certain number of songs they have clearance for, so it wasn’t like I could go in there and say, “I want to sing ‘Barracuda’ by Heart.” There was a very good chance they wouldn’t have been able to clear it. Also, had they brought me a Heart song, I would have said no because it would have been a dead giveaway. I felt we got really close with show opener [Big & Rich’s] “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” — those are two of my very best friends. How do they not know that that’s me? I tried to pick songs I love, but also songs my audience would not typically think it would be me singing.
Speaking of which, was it fun to sing “Pink Pony Club” with Rita Ora on the finale?
There’s a song I’ve never heard! Never heard it [before I sang it] and never heard it since. Let me just say [throws up prayer hands]: Nothing against the song, it’s just not my thing.
How cool was it to get that message from your daughter on the last night? Did she know it was you on the show?
In the beginning, I told almost no one. I told my publicist, I had to tell my mom because I have four dogs and she had to come take care of them. The show decided to involve my daughter and her new husband, so that’s how she got on it, otherwise she wouldn’t have known. I’m really glad they did because keeping this secret from her felt wrong not having her involved in the moment.
Your Pretenders cover tonight made Ken cry! That must have felt good, right?
I didn’t remember that! I haven’t seen the final episode yet. I don’t know what my favorite performance is because I haven’t seen them all yet. I was impressed with the “Conga” because that was so far outside of what I normally do, but my friends are all liking “Don’t Fear the Reaper,” and that was my least favorite. I was thinking, “What did I just do? I just chose a song that is going to lose me the competition. Where do I go with this vocal?” I had to be creative and jump an octave, or two, because this song doesn’t go anywhere! I think I did go three octaves in that song.
In a promo for this weekend’s new Saturday Night Live, it seems like Walton Goggins still has White Lotus on his mind as he teases his hosting debut.
Paired with SNL cast member Marcello Hernandez, the promo finds Goggins poking fun at the weekly White Lotus-style “who’s gonna die?” fan theories, applying them to the penultimate episode of season 50.
Hernandez attempts to rein in Goggins’ death theories, saying, “It’s not that kind of show, man. It’s SNL, no one’s gonna die.”
Goggins presses on regardless, confidently adding, “Colin Jost, Michael Che, murder-suicide,” to which Hernandez replies, “No! These are real people, they’re not characters… no one is dying.”
Trending on Billboard
Goggins pushes further, insisting, “That’s exactly what someone who’s about to die would say,” and proceeds to theorize about which cast member might be responsible for Hernandez’s fictional demise. He cycles through Heidi Gardner and Chloe Fineman before fixating on Bowen Yang, exclaiming, “It’s Bowen! It’s always been Bowen. It would always ever be Bowen, because he hates you.”
In classic SNL fashion, the sketch culminates with cast member Michael Longfellow sneaking up to dramatically stab Hernandez, revealing himself as the killer. “I should have been Domingo,” Longfellow says, referencing Hernandez’s viral recurring SNL character. Goggins, fully immersed, concludes with, “Wow, I did not see that coming! Prestige television!”
Fresh off his debut at the Met Gala on Monday, Goggins will continue a month of firsts as he makes his Saturday Night Live hosting debut this weekend, alongside musical guest Arcade Fire. SNL airs Saturday night at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock.

For the star’s glam, makeup artist Alana Palau used MAC Cosmetics to create a stunning look. Palau describes Hill as the creative director of the appearance and said that she wanted to create a look that was an “homage to diasporic indigenous women.” To make that happen, Palau prepped the skin with Hyper Real™ Serumizer and the Hyper Real™ SkinCanvas Balm before moving in with the Studio Fix Every-Wear All-Over Face Pen in the shades NC45 and NC50. For concealer, Hill was rocking the iconic MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW50, as well as the Studio Fix 24HR Smooth Wear Concealer in shades NC45 and NC50. For blush, Palau used Powder Blush in the shades Raizin and Burnt Pepper, on top of the Strobe Beam Liquid Blush in Good Vibes.
To create the glowy eye look, Palau used the Connect In Colour Eye Shadow Palette and focused on the shades Future Flame, Unfiltered Nudes and Hi-Fi Colour. On top of those she used Dazzleshadow in the shade I Like 2 Watch for an added dash of glam. Finally, she topped it off with the long lasting M·A·CStack Waterproof Mascara. Hill’s bold lip color was a result of Palau mixing two Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour shades, including Rekindled and Make Love To The Camera. She then added Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Caviar.

Makeup artist Ernesto Casillas created this look for Zendaya, which focused on a ’90s-style lip. To create the look, Casillas prepped the skin with Tilbury’s Crystal Elixir and Magic Cream before applying the Flawless Filter highlighter in shade 3 all over the face. He then used the Airbrush Flawless Foundation in the shade 6W and applied the Contour Wand in the shade medium for bronzer. To add a muted flush to the cheeks, he applied the Matte Beauty Blush Wand in the shade Pillow Talk and highlighted with the Beauty Light Wand in the shade Spotlight.
To create the perfect smoky eye look, Casillas used the new Rock ‘N’ Kohl eyeliner in the shade smokey bronze. This new line of eyeliners, as well as its corresponding lip liners, includes two colors in one pencil. To add some glitter and shine, he used the sensual sunset hue from the Beautifying Eye Trends palette. Finally, for the lip that set the mood for the entire look, Casillo used the Lip Cheat Contour Duo in the shade tan, and went over the liner with the Big Lip Plumpgasm gloss in the shade Diamonds. Finally, he set it all with the Airbrush Waterproof setting spray to make sure the look lasted throughout the night.

Ciara’s hair made this beauty look the winner that it was, and it was created by stylist Cesar Deleon Ramirez. “The vision was ultra-glossy, fluid and color-rich hair that photographs like glass under the lights,” he explained.
He started by washing and conditioning the hair with the Kerastase Gloss Absolu Bain Hydra-Glaze Shampoo and Gloss Absolu Insta-Glaze Anti-Frizz Conditioner. He explained that the conditioner is ideal for wigs and extensions as it adds such a boost of shine. According to Ramirez, the Chroma Absolu Soin Acide Chroma Gloss Hair Gloss is the hero of the look for its ability to transform texture. He applied it after the conditioner and then rinsed it out thoroughly.
For styling, he applied the Kerastase Mousse Bouffante Hair Mousse on the roots and up to the mid-length while the hair was still damp. This gave the look structure and helped it hold its shape throughout the evening. He used Kérastase Discipline Kératine Thermique as a heat protectant and then the Kerastase Genesis Homme Cire d’Épaisseur Texturisante Wax Pomade to tame any flyaways. For the final touch of shine, he added a couple drops of the Kerastase Elixir Ultime and sprayed it all with the Kerastase Laque Couture Hairspray.

André 3000 made a statement with his outfit, and makeup artist Alexa Hernandez helped complement the bold outfit with a fresh makeup look. She prepped the skin with M.A.C Fix Plus Matte and M.A.C HyperReal Skin Canvas Balm Moisturizing Cream, which she said “allows the product to be absorbed deeply leaving minimal product on the surface and sets the tone to the makeup ritual.” To make sure the under-eye area was fully de-puffed, she used the M.A.C Fast Response Eye Cream.
From there, she used M.A.C Studio Radiance 24hr Luminous Lift Concealer in shades NW 55 and NC63 to cover up any imperfections and to add brightness. To make sure the look remained oil-free, Hernandez used the M.A.C Studio Fix Foundation Powder Foundation in shade NW50. She topped it all off by adding moisture to the lips with the M.A.C Lip Conditioner, and she set the eyebrows in place with the M.A.C Pro Locked Brow Gel.

Charli is known for her long locks that somehow always look slightly wet and voluminous. To create these curls, stylist Matt Benns used two different hair tools from Wavytalk. He started by running a curling cream through damp hair, and then using the diffuser attachment on the Trublow hair dryer. He then used the two smaller sized barrels on the Curlmaker Pro curling iron to make sure the look wasn’t too uniform.
He explains that he pulled two pieces around to frame the face and twisted half of her hair into a messy bun. “It should feel romantic and a little punky twist,” he said. “It needs to feel really random, not symmetrical.” To top it all off, he added feather ear cuffs and actually glued some feathers onto the skin. He finished the entire look off with a texturizing and shine spray.

Sabrina’s hair was in its signature voluminous waves and featured coloring Laurie Heaps and Styling by Evanie Frausto. Heaps explains that she took slightly larger sections than normal and left more of her natural color out. To give it volume, Heaps used Redken Flash Lift with Bonder Inside and then used the Redken’s new Shades EQ Skylight Blonde in 8NV to gloss her roots.
For the style, Frausto started with Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo and Conditioner, and then applied the Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Treatment at the end of the wash. As he was blowdrying the hair, Frausto applied the Redken Volume Maximizer throughout the hair and the Redken Thermal Spray to protect her locks. He used the L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro hair dryer, and pulled up the roots with a large round brush. Then he let the curls sit in large velcro curlers so that they were fully set. After removing the curlers, he went in with a curling iron using a 1 and 1/4-inch barrel and misted the Redken Dry Texture Spray from the mid-length to the ends. Everything was fully set with the Redken Max Hold Spray to keep her hair looking great all night.
