While musicians including Kid Rock, Travis Tritt and John Rich have been lashing out at Bud Light over their fury that the beer giant sent some one-off commemorative cans to Dylan Mulvaney, the transgender actor/activist has kept quiet about the tempest stoked by the right-wing media.
But on Thursday (April 27), Mulvaney broke her silence in a three-and-a-half minute TikTok video in which she said she had been content to “take the back seat and let them tucker themselves out,” in reference to the backlash against the March Madness promotional stunt that so angered rapper-turned-country-singer Rock that he attempted to obliterate cases of Bud Light with a semi-automatic rifle.

“I think it’s okay to be frustrated with someone or confused, but what I’m struggling to understand is the need to dehumanize and to be cruel. I just, I don’t think that’s right. Dehumanization has never fixed anything in history, ever,” said Mulvaney, 26, in the video to her 13 million followers. Describing growing up in a conservative family and in the church, Mulvaney said she still has her faith, but it’s been a struggle to hold on to it in the midst of attacks that reminded her of similar criticism she faced as a child for being “too feminine.”

“Now I’m being called all those same things, but this time it’s from other adults,” she said. “And if they’re going to accuse me of anything, it should be that I’m a theater person and that I’m camp. But this is just my personality and it always has been.”

The right’s Bud Light malt-down came after Mulvaney shared a video of herself on April 1 participating in Bud Light’s Easy Carry Contest for the end of the NCAAs March Madness, revealing that the company helped her celebrate her “365th day of womanhood” with “possibly the best gift ever” — a commemorative can of Bud Light with Mulvaney’s face emblazoned on the side; the cans, which are not commercially available, so angered Rock and country singers Tritt and Rich, among others, that they vowed to boycott the world’s biggest beer maker as a result.

“I’m embarrassed to even tell you this, but I was nervous that you were going to start believing those things that they were saying about me, since it is so loud,” she said. “But I’m just going to go ahead and trust that the people who know me and my heart won’t listen to that noise… and to those of you who support me and choose to see my humanity even if you don’t fully understand or relate to me: Thank you.”

Even as Rock and Rich’s Nashville bar/restaurants have made a show of removing Anheuser-Busch products from their shelves, other artists, including Jason Isbell and Zach Bryan, defended the brand against the online backlash, pointing out the importance of diversity. SiriusXM talker Howard Stern weighed in on the issue, as well, saying he was “dumbfounded by why someone would care so much” about a trans person acting as a spokesperson for the beer brand.

See Mulvaney’s video below.

On Thursday night (April 27), James Corden aired the emotional final episode of his late-night talk show. In honor of his eight-year run, the host welcomed a series of stars throughout the show, which was preceded by an hourlong primetime special dubbed The Last Last Late Late Show With James Corden.

“I’m James Corden, and for the last time, this is the Late Late Show,” the host said as the crowd cheered his name.

Leave it to Corden to lighten the mood – and keep it that way throughout both programs. He fittingly opened the special with a pre-taped musical number that began as a ballad, which he sang from the roof of the CBS lot.

“We’ve been here for eight years and we’ve had so many laughs,” he started, before the song transformed into a pop banger as he declared, “Let’s blow CBS dough one last time … Go big or go home on my last day in the sunshine.”

And that he did. Below are the best music moments from Corden’s double-feature final hurrah — including Tom Cruise making his stage musical debut, hitting the road with Adele for the final Carpool Karaoke, gathering all the current late-night hosts for one final goodbye, welcoming Harry Styles and Will Ferrell as his final guests, and closing the episode in song, of course.

Corralling Tom Cruise Into a Broadway Musical

One year ago, while riding in a fighter jet flown by none other than Tom Cruise, Corden contemplated doing a musical. Today, during the primetime special, he took action.

Corden and Cruise are shown meeting up at the Hollywood venue Pantages, where The Lion King was currently showing. “You, my boy, are in the theater,” Corden says in awe. “And I have a treat for you. Today, you’re going to enter my world. … You and me are about to join the cast of the biggest show in Broadway history. We will perform live in The Lion King.”

“I say… no,” says Tom. But seconds later, the two are seen practicing their jazz hands and doing vocal warmups to the Mission Impossible theme. Together, they perform in the show as both a rhino during the opening number and later as Timon and Pumba for “Hakuna Matata.” After the show wraps, Cruise and Corden duet as themselves – Corden sits alone onstage and Cruise is at a bar down the street – on “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” It’s safe to say at the end of tonight, Corden was feeling the love.

One Final ‘Carpool Karaoke’ With Adele

Though it premiered online earlier this week, the final Carpool Karaoke segment, which featured Corden’s close friend Adele, hit harder in the context of the show’s farewell special.

After surprising James with a smashing-cymbals wake-up call at his home, Adele drives the host to work as they sing and reminisce along the way. After “Rolling In the Deep,” Corden recalls how “everyone on planet Earth” declined to participate in the segment early on, until Mariah Carey became the first to agree. And though she warned she wouldn’t sing, she finally gave in when “Always Be My Baby” came on – and a franchise was born.

Corden and Adele then deliver “Love Is a Game,” and before singing “I Drink Wine” Adele shares a touching story of how Corden inspired what she believes to be “some of the best writing I’ve ever done.” As she begins to tear up, she recalls a conversation the two had during a long drive home from a joint family vacation. “I felt so unsafe with you feeling unsafe,” she tells Corden, who was struggling with work and “the Internet” at the time. “I went to the studio a couple weeks later and I wrote this.”

To end, they belt Barbra Streisand’s Funny Girl classic “Don’t Rain on My Parade” followed by the epic closer of “Hometown Glory,” after which Adele begins to cry. Before hopping out of the car, Corden fittingly lightens the mood, saying with a laugh, “We’re seeing each other tomorrow!”

A Late-Night Host Farewell

In a brief skit during the show’s last episode, all the current late-night hosts – Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon (plus a brief cameo from David Letterman) – came to speak to Corden in a dream. As they filled Corden’s bedroom, they discussed staking a claim to Corden’s franchises now that they’re up for grabs. After pulling out papers to read what they each wanted, they said in unison: “Carpool Karaoke.”

“I do have other bits,” joked Corden.

The sketch then flashed forward to six months from now, during which Corden is seen competing against another former late-night host, The Daily Show alum Trevor Noah, on The Masked Singer.

Whether or not that was a tease… only time will tell.

Harry Styles’ Big Reveal

Corden welcomes Will Ferrell and good friend Harry Styles – who even has Late Late tattooed on his forearm – to the show, both of whom are the last-ever guests. As Corden and Styles begin to discuss the Grammys, Ferrell chimes in, deadpan as always, “Can I ask: What are the Grammys?”

Styles then recounts how his performance didn’t go as planned, considering the stage spun the wrong way, noting, “It was probably… it wasn’t very good.”

He then speaks of his favorite Late Late Show memories, from making the music video for “Daylight” together to playing dodgeball with One Direction against Michelle Obama. As for his least favorite? The crosswalk concert he did while incredibly sick. “There was a point hanging above the street where I was like, ‘What the f— am I doing?’” Styles said with a laugh.

The three then played one final round of Spill Your Guts, during which Harry’s question asked: “Yes or no, will there be a One Direction reunion?”

“You know,” started Styles, “I feel that it’s not a yes or no question. I would never say never to that. I think if there was a time we all felt that we wanted to do it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.”

Styles then wrapped with a heartfelt message for Corden, telling the host how incredibly proud and inspired he is by all Corden has accomplished. “On a personal note, you’ve been a safe space to me always … and I’m selfishly very excited that you’re coming home.”

Corden’s Closing Ballad

As the show’s final segment – a musical number, of course – is set up, a string section and piano can be heard getting in tune. And as Corden takes his seat behind the keys, he partakes in an audience sing-along of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” – keeping spirits high before delivering a tearful song to close the show for good.

“Now the last guest is gone from the green room and our last conversation is done,” Corden sings. “I’ve been squeezing myself into Spanx every night… So good night, thanks for watching, that’s our show…” he continues to sing despite becoming incredibly choked up.

Once the ballad ends, he stands to face the crowd, who is giving Corden a well-deserved standing ovation, to deliver one last parting line: “I’m gonna miss you all so much.”

“You need to remember the past to save the future.” Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden play spies on a mission to take down a deadly rival in the new Prime Video series Citadel, premiering Friday (April 28).

From Anthony and Joe Russo, the series follows spies from an elite agency who reunite after having their memories wiped and identities changed. The series unfolds eight years after Citadel, an elite spy agency, gets destroyed by operatives from Manticore, a rival agency.

Eight years later, Mason Kane (Madden) finds himself back in contact with his former colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who commissions him to help stop Manticore from “establishing a new world order.”

Mason tracks down Nadia and after some convincing — and a knife fight in a restaurant kitchen — she admits to having memories of him and they agree to help take down Manticore.

Lesley Manville, Osy Ikhile, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Moller and Caoilinn Springall appear in the series from Amazon Studios and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO.

Nadia is a “female James Bond,” Chopra Jonas revealed in an interview with The New York Post. Having previously starred in ABC’s Quantico, the former Bollywood actress who launched her own haircare brand, Anomaly, and appears with her husband Nick Jonas appears in the romantic comedy Love Again, is no stranger to action-packed roles.

“When I met [executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo], they explained to me what this character [Nadia] was, they wanted to create a female spy that’s like James Bond,” she told The Post. “I was like, ‘Why would I not do that?’ Of course, I want to do that!”

Citadel is executive produced by the Russo brothers, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot and Scott Nemes for AGBO. David Weil serves as showrunner and executive producer, while Josh Applebaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg serve as executive producers for Midnight Radio. Newton Thomas Sigel and Patrick Moran are also executive producers.

How can you shop the looks from Citadel? Amazon’s Citadel Shop officially opens on Thursday (April 27) at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET. Shop the digital storefront for official merchandise and products inspired by the show and discover new curated looks weekly based on Nadia’s fashions.

With The Late Late Show with James Corden coming to an end on Thursday night (April 27), producers revealed Beyoncé is the one artist they regret not getting on “Carpool Karaoke” during the show’s eight-year run.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday (April 27), showrunner Rob Crabbe admitted that “it would’ve been nice to have Beyoncé in the car.” The exec’s producing partner Ben Winston went on to explain that Beyoncé operates differently from most artists, making it understandable why she never got into the passenger seat. “She doesn’t do promo, really. She doesn’t need to. Think about her last album [2022’s Renaissance], that monster hit album, name one promo. She didn’t even do a music video,” he said.

But, Winston added that there were no hard feelings about missing out on a Beyoncé exclusive. “We always knew it was gonna be hard to get her singing in a car, but we would’ve loved it,” he said. “It’s all good though. I know she’s a fan of the show and she’s always been really lovely and responsive and we’d been close a couple of times, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

Over the years, host James Corden has convinced everyone from Lady Gaga and One Direction to Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder and Bad Bunny help him drive to work as they sang along to some of their biggest hits and fan favorites. While Mariah Carey was the first superstar to agree to the segment back in 2015, the final episode of “Carpool Karaoke” aired earlier this week with Adele surprising her pal by driving him to work and reflecting on his eight years hosting the popular late-night show.

The final episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden is set to air this Friday (April 28) on CBS. Read the producers’ full chat with THR here.

Rihanna is heading to the big screen — in animated form. The “Umbrella” singer is set to voice Smurfette in Paramount and Nickelodeon’s upcoming Smurfs film.

While the film is still untitled and does not have a release date, Puss in Boots director Chris Miller is taking on the project, which is based on the beloved characters created by Belgian artist Peyo.

“I get to show up in my PJs in my third trimester,” the pregnant RiRi said onstage at CinemaCon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day.”

Rihanna’s reps confirmed that she is expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky after fans speculated about her appearance during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show performance earlier this year. The singer was dressed in a curve-hugging red outfit and appeared to rub her belly during the airborne performance at the State Farm Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Rihanna welcomed her first child with the rapper last May.

The couple has yet to reveal the due date of the upcoming bundle of joy, or the sex of the baby. In the meantime, RiRi’s been rocking her signature cool pregnancy looks. Earlier this month, the “Love on the Brain” singer celebrated her brand’s partnership with Ulta in an all white look from head to toe, complete with a snug undershirt that showed off her baby bump.

The Kardashians are returning for season three of their popular Hulu reality series, and the first trailer dropped on Thursday (April 27), highlighting some darker moments the famous sisters have faced over the past year.

Most notably, Kim Kardashian is seen struggling through her divorce from Kanye West, breaking down in tears when her sister Khloé asks if she’s OK. “I don’t know how Kim handles everything with her ex-husband,” Kendall Jenner tells the camera, before a scene in which matriarch Kris offers Kim support at a moment where she feels “the weight of the world” on her shoulders.

“He has made up the most insane narrative. We stay silent through all the lies for my kids,” Kim tells the camera while crying. While the trailer doesn’t specify what exact “narrative” Kim is referring to, Ye publicly alleged in February 2022 that the SKIMS founder had tried to “kid nap” their daughter Chicago for the child’s birthday, claiming that she hadn’t invited him to the birthday party and didn’t tell him where it was.

Kim later addressed his public criticisms. “From the beginning I have wanted nothing but a healthy relationship because it is what is best for our children and it saddens me that Kanye continues to make it impossible every step of the way,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories at the time. “I wish to handle all matters regarding our children privately.”

Season three of The Kardashians premieres on Hulu on May 25. Watch the new trailer below, which also addresses Khloé’s melanoma scare and the sisters setting unrealistic beauty standards.

Step aside, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Bashir Salahuddin has treated A Star Is Born fans to a new, very different version of “Shallow.”

On the next episode of That’s My Jam, premiering Monday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, the Top Gun: Maverick actor took on the “Barry-oke” challenge, in which stars sing a popular song in the style of two famous Barrys: Barry White and Barry Gibb. When Gibb’s face appears above the song’s lyrics, the contestant must sing in a high-pitched tone to mimic the Bee Gees superstar, and if White’s face appears, the contestant channels the “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love Baby” singer’s distinctly deep vocals.

Salahuddin seamlessly flowed through pitches during the game, even switching between Barrys mid-word.

The 2023 Tribeca Festival announced the star-studded lineup for its gala events and the opening, closing and centerpiece selections on Thursday (April 27). This year’s fest will kick off on June 7 with the North American premiere of Kiss the Future, a documentary following a group of underground musicians and creatives during the nearly four-year siege of Sarajevo and the 1997 U2 concert celebrating the liberation of the Bosnian capital.
The doc, produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Sarah Anthony — and featuring U2’s Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton — will officially open the 12-day event’s theme of artists-activists.

“We know U2’s marquee is helpful in getting the lives of these local heroes to a wider audience, but even at my most puffed up I couldn’t have imagined our tiny role being given so much care, attention, and screen time by Nenad Cicin-Sain,” U2 singer Bono said in a statement. “If defiance is the essence of romance, then the people of Sarajevo are the most romantic figures. Viva Sarajevo!”

Damon added that he and childhood friend and producer/writing partner Affleck are proud that Kiss the Future was selected to open this year’s festival. “We are grateful to the people of Sarajevo and to U2 for giving us the opportunity to help tell this special story,” he said in a statement. “Though this event happened almost 30 years ago, we feel it has strong relevance to today’s world, serving as a powerful reminder that human creativity can provide a powerful antidote to even the most horrific of situations.”

The Centerpiece Gala will spotlight the NY premiere of Disney/Pixar’s Elemental, as well as musical documentaries about Carlos Santana (Carlos), Cyndi Lauper (Let the Canary Sing) and French Montana (For Khadija), with each artist performing after the screenings. Megan Thee Stallion will also be on hand for a Storyteller’s conversation on June 14.

“Music is an instrumental form of storytelling, and the Tribeca Festival is thrilled to weave dynamic performances into our Gala events. Our lineup features the best of soul, rock & roll, pop, and hip-hop,” Tribeca Festival Director and VP of Programming Cara Cusuamno said in a statement. “We hope our audiences are inspired by activism in art and riled up by the electrifying acts paired with the screenings.”

This year’s festival will take place from June 7-18 in New York and feature 109 films, including documentaries about Alicia Keys, Gogol Bordello, Milli Vanilli, Gloria Gaynor, Biz Markie, the Indigo Girls and Tierra Whack.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains the identities of the two contestants who were eliminated on Wednesday night’s (April 26) episode of The Masked Singer.

The “Battle of the Saved” night of The Masked Singer amped up the drama on Wednesday (April 26) when a trio of season 9 contestants who’d gotten a second chance earlier in the season — Medusa, Gargoyle and Mantis — squared off to move on to the next round. The night began with Medusa crushing Shawn Mendes’ “Mercy,” which judge Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg said was so good it “alone could win this.”

Gargoyle was next, taking on Usher and Pitbull’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” followed by Mantis rocking through The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me.” After the audience vote, the first one to get sent packing was Mantis, who was revealed to be actor Lou Diamond Phillips, no stranger to the music game thanks to his breakout role as Ritchie Valens in the 1987 musical biopic La Bamba and roles on Broadway in the 1996 revival of The King and I.

Following a head-to-head-battle with Medusa on Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries,” Gargoyle was next to fall, with the reveal unmasking Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen. The pair joined this season’s other eliminated celebs including: Dick Van Dyke (Gnome), Sara Evans (Mustang), Howie Mandel (Rock Lobster), Debbie Gibson (Night Owl), Grandmaster Flash (Polar Bear), Michael Bolton (Wolf), Malin Akerman (Squirrel), Lele Pons (Jackalope), Alexa Bliss (Axolotl), Holly Robinson Peete (Fairy), George Wendt (Moose), Christine Quinn (Scorpio), Dee Snider (Doll), Alicia Witt (Dandelion) and Melissa Joan Hart (Lamp).

Next week’s British-themed quarter finals episode will celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles III with the four remaining singers — Macaw, California Roll, UFO and Medusa — competing for a spot in the semi-finals.

Check out Mantis and Gargoyle’s unmasked interviews below.

Halle Bailey is gearing up to make her Disney debut in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid next month, and ahead of the movie’s official release, fans were treated to her rendition of “Part of Your World” on Wednesday (April 26).

In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the singer — one-half of sister duo Chloe x Halle — revealed that she tried to keep her version of the track as close to Jodi Benson’s original in the 1989 animated film.

“Every time I hear Jodi Benson sing it, the nostalgia that I get is just amazing and it fills me up with so much joy,” she told the host. “I get goosebumps all over so I was very excited to do my own rendition of this song and try my very best to give the song justice, you know, because it’s an amazing work of art. I took inspiration from the original, really based off of the amazing base that we had of the original already.”

Bailey continued: “Jodi Benson is an iconic singer and she’s just such a lovely person inside and out as well. So when you are redoing a song that’s already great, you just have to really try your best to honor the original, as well as not be afraid to make it your own. So that’s truly what I tried to do.”

Leading up to the release of The Little Mermaid, the 23-year-old revealed that she has had some issues with controlling her nerves before the premiere. “I’m a little bit nervous just because this has been so long in the making. I mean, I auditioned for this film when I was 18, and I turned 23 this year,” she said. “Now that it’s finally here, I’m like, whoa, I can’t believe it. And it’s a very, very big pinch-me moment. I’m so excited. And I just can’t wait for people to see what we did to this film.”

Listen to Bailey’s version of “Part of Your World” in the video below.
