The limited eight-episode drama series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, starring Kevin Hart, is making its debut on Peacock on Thursday (Sept. 5).

The series is set in Atlanta and is based on true events that took place on Oct. 26, 1970, the night Muhammad Ali made his famous return to the ring against Jerry Quarry. According to People, the fight was not only a significant event in both sports and culture, but also a place where celebrities and notable figures would come together from all over the world.

Ariana Grande Promises to Tell the Witch of the West’s ‘Whole Story’ in New ‘Wicked’ Trailer: Watch

Before she was the Wicked Witch of the West, she was just Elphaba — and Ariana Grande is here to tell her story.

In the second full-length trailer for the upcoming Wicked film, the pop star steps into her role as Glinda while recounting the untold tale of her green-skinned former frenemy to the citizens of Oz. “Fellow Ozians, the Wicked Witch of the West is dead!” she says, dressed in the Good Witch’s signature pink ball gown. “Let me tell you the whole story.”

“Our paths did cross at school,” Grande adds in the teaser, which cuts to previously unseen clips of Glinda and Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba meeting at Shiz University, becoming pals and traveling to the Emerald City together. “She had her secrets.”

The trailer also features new snippets of the R.E.M. Beauty founder and Erivo belting out “Defying Gravity” together. “There’s no fight we cannot win, just you and I defying gravity,” they sing in unison.

The new preview comes with just a couple months left until the first of the two Jon M. Chu-directed Wicked films arrives in theaters Nov. 22. It was preceded by several other teasers, while the first full trailer was shared by Universal Pictures in May.

To build hype ahead of the premiere, the Wicked team has also been rolling out collaborations with brands such as Mattel — which saw Grande and Erivo getting their own Barbie dolls — and partnered with NBC Olympics to bring the Emerald City train to life in a promo for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.

Wicked has also shared multiple behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of the films, which are based on the Broadway musical and Gregory Maguire novel of the same name. In one, the “Yes, And?” musician and Erivo explained how their friendship offscreen translated to their portrayals onscreen.

“These two very different women just fall completely in love with each other, and that is mirrored experience of what happened with Cynthia and I,” Grande said.

Charli XCX & Troye Sivan Say Pop Is in Good Hands With Chappell Roan: ‘This Is Not an Anomaly’

Brat summer may be over, but Charli XCX and Troye Sivan both agree that the future of pop music is in good hands.

In a new cover story with i-D, Charli and Troye broke down their respective careers and friendship, while teasing what’s to come from their highly anticipated fall tour. During the conversation, the pair was asked about the state of the pop genre — and both said that artists such as themselves and Chappell Roan were helping keep pop music fun.

“I think it’s a really interesting time in pop music, where [being] niche is being rewarded in a way that we haven’t seen for a while,” Charli said. “It feels like there’s this new wave of artists with different ambitions and cultural touchpoints who are really thriving in mainstream culture. And I think that’s myself, that’s Troye, that’s Chappell [Roan].”

Most of those cultural touchpoints, she explained, are inherently queer, marking a watershed moment for LGBTQ representation in mainstream music. “When I think about the three of us, that’s a lot of music that either is inherently a part of queer culture or is very much inspired by it and that’s super cool,” she said. “You have so many artists being outwardly gay and talking about drag culture. It’s cool that this is not an anomaly anymore.”

Sivan agreed with the “360” singer’s assessment, adding that part of what makes Roan and Charli’s successes over the last few months so interesting is the fact that both of them are making the same kind of music they’ve been making. “It’s not like you guys have changed your approach. It doesn’t feel like you’re actively striving to get the masses or anything like that,” he explained. “To me, it comes across as the most authentic, real vulnerable version of you and that’s the one that’s connected.”

The duo is currently preparing for the upcoming North American Sweat Tour, which kicks off in Detroit on Saturday, Sept. 14. During the pair’s conversation, Charli gave fans a small tease of what to expect from the live show: “The staging is f–king crazy. I mean, not to hype it up too much, but it’s great.”

The Musicians Behind ‘Kindergarten: The Musical’ Share How the Series ‘Celebrates’ the ‘Tiny Things’ About Being a Kid

Kindergarten is a big life step for any kid. For many, it’s their first time away from home and their parents, it’s when they learn the alphabet and it’s when they get to experience making friends for the first time.

That’s why the formative year was the inspiration behind Disney‘s freshly released series, Kindergarten: The Musical, which follows the story of 5-year-old Berti and her new friends as they navigate life at school. “We were all kids once,” one of the show’s creators and executive producers, Michelle Lewis, tells Billboard.

Her fellow series creator and executive producer, Charlton Pettus, agrees. “We’re both parents. Real kids are so much more interesting than most people. We’re telling super fun stories about people we know extraordinarily well, having raised bunches of them.”

Lewis and Pettus are longtime co-creatives, as they worked as producers, songwriters and musicians for decades. Lewis is a two-time Emmy Award winner who has written for Cher, Amy Grant, Little Mix and more. She’s also worked on a number of animated children’s shows, including Doc McStuffins, Vampirina and Bubble Guppies.

Since 2000, Pettus has been a touring guitarist, producer and cowriter for Tears for Fears, and has also worked with artists including Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and Selena Gomez. However, Kindergarten: The Musical marks his first time working on a television show. “It’s so much better,” he says of working in television. “In the darkest days of pop songwriting, [Lewis and I] were in that period where the mission was to write songs that sounded like they were about something, but assiduously avoided ever actually being about something. So, I think we got a little burnt on the chase.”

He noted that “TV and film seemed much more fun, so we started dabbling in that,” before adding, “We had a couple shows we were trying to pitch. Kindergarten came up as a back pocket pitch. We thought it was clever and kind of fun. As as we went out in the world and talked to people, this was the one that that people reacted to.”

However, music is hardly left on the back burner on Kindergarten: The Musical, as the name suggests. Lewis calls the series a “love letter to music” and its unifying nature. “We have a song called ‘I Want to Go Home’ in the show,” she says as an example. “It’s about being in school and they miss home, they miss their dog, whatever. What would seem like a tiny moment, for a little kid is actually a big moment, and big enough for them to sing. I hope that the show makes kids feel seen and heard, celebrated and comfortable with expressing those things, those fears and anxieties and joys and all that stuff through music.”

Pettus concludes, “Why do songs make us cry? Because we recognize ourselves. It resonates. I think we just want to do the same thing with kids. We want them to recognize themselves, see themselves, and see that it works out, that it’s all okay.”

Lady Gaga in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’: What Critics Are Saying

There’s a new villain in town.

Joker: Folie à Deux premiered at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival this week, with stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as well as director Todd Phillips in attendance to celebrate the film, which officially hits theaters on Oct. 4.

Unlike the first Joker film, for which Phoenix won an Oscar for best actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir won for best original score, Joker: Folie à Deux follows Phoenix’s return as Arthur Fleck, a.k.a the Joker, who is now confined in Arkham Asylum. There, he meets Gaga’s Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, and they form a powerfully chaotic bond with the goal of causing mayhem across Gotham City. Unlike the first Joker film, the sequel includes a series of musical numbers, which is where fans see Gaga in her element.

Ben Platt & Noah Galvin Say ‘I Do’ in Brooklyn Wedding: ‘We Are Still Floating’

Mazel tov! Dear Evan Hansen stars Ben Platt and Noah Galvin are officially married.

In a new interview with Vogue, the couple revealed the details of their luxurious New York wedding. With the entire wedding taking place over three days across Brooklyn and Manhattan, the couple officially tied the knot in a ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 1. “We couldn’t have asked for anything more,” Galvin said in the interview. “We are still floating. And mostly we’re happy we get to keep hanging out forever.”

Held at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the Sunday ceremony saw the happy couple prioritizing one aspect of the traditional wedding festivities over all others: dancing. “We wanted the dancing to go off. We feel that all missions were accomplished,” Platt said. “Our greatest hope was to give everyone a joyful, low-stress weekend full of warmth and a window into our relationship and the life that we are building.”
