From Lucy Dacus’ excellent new solo track to Perfume Genius’ ode to anxiety, check out just a few of our favorite releases from this week below:

Lucy Dacus, “Ankles”

Leave it Lucy Dacus, phenomenal modern singer-songwriter and one third of alt-rock trio Boygenius, to craft a stunning song steeped in queer intimacy. “Ankles” is unlike much of Dacus’ previous work — guitars are swapped for string sections, sonic spareness for grandiosity — but still retains the core tenet of her artistry: writing singular experiences into practically universal songs. From beginning to end, “Ankles” is a career-best showing for Dacus, and a testament to her enduring talent today.

Trending on Billboard

Perfume Genius, “It’s a Mirror”

In a time where anxiety seems to be more and more the norm, Perfume Genius is here with a definitive track to capture just that feeling. “It’s a Mirror” bathes itself in themes of isolation and loneliness, while letting the musicality carry out bigger and bolder sounds for the artist born Mike Hadreas, as he waxes poetic on the seemingly unbreakable cycle of paralyzing angst. “It’s a diamond, my whole life is/ Open just outside the door,” he croons.

Chloe Moriondo, “Shoreline”

Chloe Moriondo has made a name for herself in the music business as a purveyor of big, messy thoughts through wild, often hilarious songwriting. So it’s jarring when she never goes for the joke on “Shoreline,” their stunningly spare new single. Instead, Moriondo aims for earnestness, landing bolts of truth directly into your heart as she reels from the “first big breakup” of her life through effortless metaphor, simple production and a gorgeous vocal performance.

Zora, Belladonna

Belladonna, at its core, is a horror story told from the oft-neglected perspective of a black trans woman fighting for her life. But don’t let that fool you into thinking that Zora, the talented Minnesota singer/rapper/producer behind it’s creation, is a victim. No, Belladonna makes it clear from the jump that Zora is instead taking firm control of the narrative, spinning tales of desire (“Sick Sex”), secrecy (“Hush”) and revenge (“Bodies in My Room”).

Jasmine.4.t, You Are the Morning

Meet your new obsession Jasmine.4.t, the first British addition to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records and a rising alt-rock star in her own right. With her stunning new album You Are the Morning, Jasmine tells her own transition story on her exact terms, examining sex (“Skin on Skin”), queer friendships (“You Are the Morning”), trauma (“Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation”) and navigating the complexities of finding your truest self (“New Shoes”). Keep your eye on Jasmine.4.t — if Morning is any indication, than she’s only at the start of a long, fruitful career of incredible alt-rock stardom.

Here’s Every Musician Who’s Ever Hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’

From Paul Simon to Charli XCX, dozens of artists have etched their name into 30 Rock history since 1975.

Since its premiere in 1975, Saturday Night Live has been one of the biggest bucket-list performance slots for musicians. But to host the legendary sketch-comedy program? That’s when you know you’ve really made it as a star.

And for many musicians over the years, that dream has become reality. Everyone from Ray Charles to the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Madonna, Britney Spears, Drake, Taylor Swift have, at various points in SNL history, piloted different episodes of the series.

It’s not an easy gig — especially for hosts who pull double duty and serve as their own musical guests — with show leads only getting one week of preparation before they are tasked with delivering live monologues and playing absurd characters in skits that challenge them to break away from their artistic images. But with the help of creator Lorne Michaels and a rotating cast of some of the world’s best comedians and joke writers, time and time again, musicians have successfully added 30 Rock to the list of venues they’ve conquered, adding their names to the show’s ever-expanding host history book.

As SNL celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025, Billboard is rounding up every musician who’s ever hosted the flagship NBC program — not counting stars like Bruce Willis or Eddie Murphy, who may have musical proclivities but are much more famous for their non-musical pursuits. From Paul Simon to Charli XCX and more, keep reading to see all the artists who’ve led the show — plus their respective seasons, episodes and musical guests — in chronological order below.

Kelly Clarkson Gets Freaky With Explosive Cover of Chappell Roan’s ‘Red Wine Supernova’: Watch

On a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly Clarkson‘s star power exploded as she covered Chappell Roan‘s “Red Wine Supernova.”

In lieu of a miniskirt and go-go boots, the vocalist looked chic in a black blazer while standing on stage with her band Thursday (Jan. 16), immediately bringing energy to the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess track’s hot-and-heavy opening verse. “She was a Playboy, Brigitte Bardot/ She showed me things I didn’t know,” Clarkson sang percussively. “She did it right there, out on the deck/ Put her canine teeth in the side of my neck.”

The talk-show host went on to belt out Roan’s soaring chorus to perfection before hammering out the track’s NSFW bridge. “I heard you like magic/ I’ve got a wand and a rabbit,” Clarkson sang with a knowing smile. “So baby, let’s get freaky, get kinky/ Let’s make this bed get squeaky.”

“Red Wine Supernova” is just one of several runaway hits on Roan’s 2023 debut album, which ascended to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 nearly a full year after its release in August. The dance track peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 that same month, and five other songs on the LP — “My Kink Is Karma,” “Casual,” “Femininomenon,” “Hot to Go” and “Pink Pony Club” — also entered the chart last year.

Trending on Billboard

The performance is just the latest time Clarkson has covered a Roan track for her show’s Kellyoke segment. In September, the former The Voice coach put her own spin on the Missouri native’s “Coffee,” followed by “Pink Pony Club” in November.

Clarkson and Miranda Lambert also joined forces on a brief cover of the 26-year-old star’s breakthrough hit “Good Luck, Babe!” last year. “Her voice is insane,” the “Stronger” singer said of Roan at the time. “Her range, how she goes from head voice to chest voice.”

See a Makeup-Free Chappell Roan, Becky G & Victoria Monét in Sephora & Hulu ‘Faces of Music’ Docuseries: Watch the Trailer

Time to embrace the Faces of Music. Sephora and Hulu announced Friday (Jan. 18) that they are teaming up for an inspiring new docuseries that will celebrate the connection between beauty and music.

The three-episode Faces of Music limited series will feature in-depth conversations with three major music stars — Chappell Roan, Victoria Monét and Becky G — as they share how they “use beauty to shape their image, amplify their music, and communicate their identity,” per the series description. The show will also explore how these artists created their instantly recognizable beauty looks.

In a new trailer shared exclusively via Billboard, the three stars get ready to go onstage while sitting at a vanity. “Chappell is a version of myself that’s so bold and confident and hot,” Roan (born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) says in the one-minute clip.

Trending on Billboard

Becky G chimes in, adding, “I feel my most sexy when I’m leaning into what is on the inside,” while Monét concludes, “It’s not about right or wrong; it’s about your truth.”

All three musicians have had a groundbreaking few years. Monét released her album Jaguar II on Aug. 25, 2023, and the 11-track project reached No. 22 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 60 on the Billboard 200. The LP won two Grammys this year for best R&B album and best engineered album, non-classical, while the R&B singer-songwriter also took home the coveted Big Four trophy for best new artist at the 2024 ceremony.

Roan dropped her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in 2023. After a series of headline-making performances — including at Coachella and Gov Ball 2024 — the 14-track project earned a new peak of No. 2 on the Billboard 200. At the 2025 Grammys, she’s nominated for six awards, including all the Big Four categories.

Becky G embarked on her first headlining run, the Mi Casa, Tu Casa tour, and dropped her third studio album, Esquinas, in 2023. She hosted the Latin American Music Awards in 2024 and embarked on her second headlining tour, titled the Casa Gomez: Otro Capítulo tour. Most recently, she dropped another album, Encuentros, in October 2024.

Faces of Music launches exclusively on Hulu on Jan. 22. Watch the trailer via Billboard below.

Marcello Hernández Tries & Fails to Rap GloRilla’s ‘Yeah Glo!’ in Spanish in New ‘SNL’ Promo

Dave Chappelle is set to host Saturday Night Live for the fourth time this weekend (Jan. 18), with GloRilla making her musical guest debut.

In a promotional clip for the upcoming episode posted on Thursday (Jan. 16), SNL fan-favorite cast member Marcello Hernández says, “Man, what a chaotic time in the world. I’m so glad that you’re here to bring us together and remind us of what makes us human.”

When Chappelle goes to thank him, Hernández hilariously clarifies, “I was actually talking to GloRilla.” An immediately flattered Glo then tells the comedian, “Thanks, BB!”

Elsewhere in the promo, Hernández tells GloRilla how much he loves her 2024 hit, “Yeah, Glo!,” explaining to the rapper that “if it was in Spanish, it would be like ‘Si, Glo!’”

“Oh, I like that. You gonna keep going?” Glo asks, wondering if he’ll deliver the expletive-filled hook in Spanish as well. “I don’t know, I gotta translate,” a flustered Hernández replies with a laugh.

GloRilla’s SNL debut comes three months after the release of the Memphis rapper’s debut solo album, Glorious, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The project spawned the single “TGIF,” which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, Glo’s highest-reaching unaccompanied entry on the chart.

Justin Baldoni Seemingly Alleges Blake Lively Used Taylor Swift Friendship to ‘Pressure’ Him in Lawsuit

Justin Baldoni filed a bombshell $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Thursday (Jan. 16), and he appears to have referenced Taylor Swift in the filing.

In a 179-page suit obtained by Billboard, the actor-director accused the Gossip Girl actress — who starred in It Ends With Us, which Baldoni directed — and her famous husband of civil extortion, defamation and invasion of privacy, alleging the couple hijacked his vision for their film before trying to destroy his image with false allegations of sexual harassment. In one of several complaints raised in the filing, Baldoni implies that Lively at one point attempted to use the influence of a “megacelebrity friend” to pressure him to comply with Lively’s ideas for the It Ends With Us script.

A screenshot of text messages between Baldoni and Lively also included in the filing appears to confirm that the famous friend is Swift. “Was working on rooftop scene today, I really love what you did,” Baldoni at one point texted Lively. “Makes it so much more fun and interesting. (And I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor).”

Trending on Billboard

In other screenshots, Lively refers to Reynolds and her famous friend as “my most trusted partners” who have “established themselves as absolute titans as writers and storytellers outside of their primary gig — just singing or just acting.”

Billboard has reached out to reps for Baldoni, Swift, Lively and Reynolds for comment.

Also on the topic of the megacelebrity friend, Baldoni’s attorneys wrote that Lively at one point summoned him to her New York penthouse to talk about her version of the script.

“Baldoni was greeted by Ryan Reynolds, who launched into enthusiastic praise for Lively’s version of the scene,” the filing says of the meeting. “Hours later, as the meeting was ending, a famous, and famously close, friend of Reynolds and Lively, walked into the room and similarly began praising Lively’s script. Baldoni understood the subtext: he needed to comply with Lively’s direction for the script.”

“Later, Baldoni felt obliged to text Lively to say that he had liked her pages and hadn’t needed Reynolds and her megacelebrity friend to pressure him,” the suit continues. “The message could not have been clearer. Baldoni was not just dealing with Lively. He was also facing … two of the most influential and wealthy celebrities in the world, who were not afraid to make things very difficult for him.”

Baldoni is seeking $400 million from Lively and Reynolds for “deploying their enormous power to steal an entire film right out of the hands of its director and production studio.” His lawsuit comes about a month after Lively filed her own lawsuit against Baldoni, accusing the director of harassment on set and coordinating a smear campaign against her after the film was finished.

In December, Baldoni sued The New York Times for $250 million over its coverage of the fallout between him and Lively.
