State Champ Radio country music awards
Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll and Chris Stapleton are among the first performers announced for the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, which will be held at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on May 16.
The show will also feature performances by Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett, as well as Reba McEntire, who was announced as host last week. McEntire will perform new music. Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
The show will stream live globally on Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. The ACM stresses that a Prime membership will not be required to watch live. They note: “Everyone is invited to the Party of the Year.”

Stapleton and Wilson both received five ACM nominations this year. Jelly Roll is a beat behind with four.
This is McEntire’s 17th time hosting or co-hosting the ACMs. She first co-hosted the show in 1986 with actor/singer John Schneider and the late Mac Davis. McEntire is closing in on the all-time record for most times hosting or co-hosting a major awards show. That record has long been held by Bob Hope, who hosted or co-hosted the Academy Awards 19 times between 1940-78.
The 2023 ACM Awards, hosted by Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks, garnered more than 7.7 million viewers on Prime Video plus additional viewership across Amazon Music, the Amazon Music channel on Twitch, and Amazon Live, making it one of the year’s most-watched awards shows.
This marks the ACM Awards’ third year streaming on Prime Video; its second in a row coming from Ford Center at The Star. The venue opened in 2016 and serves as the practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the home for many major sporting events throughout the year. Last year’s ACM Awards were the first awards show to take place there.
The 59th ACM Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions (DCP). Raj Kapoor is executive producer and showrunner, with Patrick Menton as co-executive producer. Damon Whiteside serves as executive producer for the ACM , and Barry Adelman serves as executive producer for DCP. John Saade serves as consulting producer for Amazon MGM Studios.
Kapoor was one of three executive producers of the Grammy Awards on Feb. 4, along with Ben Winston and Jesse Collins. He also served as executive producer and showrunner of the Oscars on March 10. Menton was a co-executive producer of the Grammys.

Fans can also tune into the official ACM Red Carpet on Prime Video, the Amazon Music Channel on Twitch, and Amazon Live, starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT. The full rebroadcast will be available directly following the stream on Prime Video and available the next day for free on Amazon Freevee and the Amazon Music app.

Eight years before her new album Cowboy Carter came to fruition, Beyoncé released what was then her most country song to date, “Daddy Lessons,” on her critically lauded 2016 album Lemonade. Half a year later, she performed it at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards alongside The Chicks.
However, there was backlash before the superstar even took the stage. A pre-show announcement teasing her performance sparked calls for a CMAs boycott on social media, with some people blasting the awards show for including Bey, whose tribute to the Black Panther Party during her performance of “Formation” at the 2016 Super Bowl had also earned pushback. (Some viewers also called for a boycott due to the inclusion of The Chicks, who famously pissed off the country music industry by criticizing George W. Bush at the height of the Iraq War in 2003.) After the performance, there was no mention of her appearance on the CMAs website.
Now, close to a decade later, fans think Bey is getting the last word. While unveiling the Cowboy Carter cover artwork Tuesday (March 19), the singer wrote that the Renaissance sequel was “born out of an experience” she’d had years prior where she “did not feel welcomed,” adding, “it was very clear that I wasn’t.”

It didn’t take the Hive long to connect the Houston native’s statement back to her rocky relationship with the awards show and its viewers. “Beyoncé left the CMA’s in 2016 and started plotting her revenge arc in the car,” one person tweeted shortly after she posted her message.
“Beyoncé really said oh yall didn’t like me at the CMA’s well imma make a whole country album, queen,” added another fan on X.
Billboard has reached out to the CMAs for comment.
It is worth noting, though, that Bey also emphasized in her cover reveal, “This ain’t a Country album … This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.” Still, it’s clear that the Grammy winner is embracing the genre on a bigger artistic level than ever before. Cowboy Carter, for instance, was led by two singles, both of them alike in their country influences: “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which historically topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks earlier this month and also made her the first Black woman to go No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and “16 Carriages.”
“She turned that experience into a deeper foray into country music with #COWBOYCARTER — the first taste of which, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em,’ made her the first Black woman with a No. 1 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart,” one fan mused on X. “Talk about turning lemons into lemonade.”

Morgan Wallen is the leading nominee for the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards, with 11 nods. Hosted by Little Big Town, the show will air live on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT simultaneously on NBC and Peacock from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
Wallen is trailed in the nominations count by Luke Combs and HARDY, with nine nods each; Jelly Roll, with eight; Lainey Wilson, with seven; Zach Bryan and Kane Brown with six each; and Megan Moroney, with five.
Wallen, Combs, Wilson, Bryan and Brown are each nominated for the top award, The People’s Artist of 2023, alongside Blake Shelton, Kelsea Ballerini and Old Dominion. The latter is the only group or duo nominated for the top award.
Ingrid Andress is a surprise nominee for The New Artist of 2023. She was nominated for the ACM Awards’ new female artist of the year award in February 2021 and the CMA Awards’ new artist of the year prize that September. Maybe they mean “new-ish.” The other nominees in the category are Jelly Roll, Bryan, Moroney, Bailey Zimmerman, Corey Kent, ERNEST and Priscilla Block.
In a bid to distinguish themselves from other country awards shows, the People’s Choice Country Awards have a few unique categories: The Crossover Song of 2023, The Concert Tour of 2023 and The Social Star of 2023. The latter category is among the most gender-balanced on the ballot, with four women vying with four men.
The crossover song category consists of pop/country collabs, which brought in such pop, alternative, dance and hip-hop stars as P!nk, Ed Sheeran, Bebe Rexha, Charlie Puth, Maggie Rogers, Diplo and Kodak Black.
Voting begins today and runs through Friday, Aug. 25 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Fans can vote online at votepcca.com. In an unusual twist, votes cast on Turbo Tuesday, Aug. 22 (midnight–11:59 p.m. ET) will count twice. Votes will be tabluted by third-party vendor Telescope. Complete rules can be found here.
Billed as “an award show for the people and by the people,” the People’s Choice Country Awards is produced by Den of Thieves with executive producers Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski. The show will also bestow several honorary awards. As previously announced, Toby Keith will receive the Country Music Icon Award, presented by Shelton.
The broadcast will extend across platforms with Backstage Live: People’s Choice Country Awards, which will feature red-carpet arrivals, backstage chats and behind-the-scenes coverage. The livestream will air on Peacock, PCA Twitter, NBC Twitter/Facebook/YouTube, TODAY All Day/Twitter, E! News Twitter/Facebook/YouTube/E!Online, Access Twitter/YouTube, and Circle TV Network and Circle social platforms.
