GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer-songwriter and NAACP Image Award-winning actress, Chlöe Bailey sat down with HelloBeautiful magazine for their digital cover to talk about her career–and the release of her sophomore album, Trouble In Paradise.
Bailey told Hello Beautiful the project was recorded and mastered in St. Lucia where she found solace, acceptance, and creativity.
“I can walk around with no makeup, I can walk around loving my body, I can go to the ocean, truly just pray to God and thank him for the blessings that I have. And it reminds me that life isn’t all about what my career is. It’s not about outer validation, but the inner peace,” said Bailey about recording on the island.
She added, “I just really wanted people to feel the peace and the love that this place has brought me, where it was able to open up my creative mind and my creative spirit to literally write my troubles away in paradise. And the album feels like what a summer fling feels like, the back and forth of it, the highs, the lows, the love.”
The 26-year-old star is also set to co-star in a new crime-drama coming to Peacock produced by Will Packer and Kevin Hart. Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist stars Samuel L. Jackson, Terrance Howard, Don Cheadle, and Taraji P. Henson.
In the limited series, Bailey plays Lena Mosley, a character she describes as sexy, but who still has a passion for “science, technology and engineering.” She said that she hopes the character reminds people that women are multifaceted.
“And what I’m really loving right now, I’m really loving Megan Thee Stallion, how she shares her love for the Japanese culture … and being a sexy Black girl who loves anime,” Bailey told HelloBeautiful. “I love – with even Doja. She’s sexy with curves, but she equally rocks her kitten heels … It’s like, yes, we can be sexy on stage, but we also have those cute little quirks that make us who we are. Who says we just have to be one thing? None of us are just one thing.”
“So when people try to get those viral tweets by saying, ‘Chlöe’s sex appeal is contrived because she’s this sweet nerdy girl,’ why can’t I be both? And it just kind of makes me giggle to myself because I’m like, you have no idea because you don’t know who I am as a person.”

Chlöe Bailey spoke about her upcoming album, her viral role in Donald Glover’s latest series, and more in a recent interview.
Singer and actress Chlöe Bailey has been the source of heavy buzz recently thanks to her recent role on Swarm, the new Prime Video series from Donald Glover, and her solo album In Pieces. She appeared as the latest guest on Big Boy’s Neighborhood to talk about everything in her usual straightforward and honest manner.
The conversation quickly turned to that viral scene from the show, where in the first few minutes of the first episode, her character Marissa is shown having sex with her boyfriend Khalid (Damson Idris) as her sister Dre (Dominique Fishback) is watching through the open door. That scene would become viral with some expressing surprise and others criticizing Bailey for being in such a provocative scene.
“I’m an actress. I was doing my job and I think people gotta kinda remember I’m an adult and I’m an artist,” Chlöe said. “Nothing was seen that they haven’t seen from me. You didn’t see nipple, you didn’t see there, nothing.” Big Boy asked if she felt that Idris received the same level of backlash. “I don’t think so because he’s a man,” she replied. “Oh, the fellas get the high fives,” Big Boy responded.
Bailey continued, “Because I’m an actress I’m not reading it as Chlöe is about to do a sex scene. I’m reading it as Marissa is in this scene and her sister is watching. That’s what people are forgetting. It’s about the tension between Damson and Dom who did incredible acting in this show and I was just seen in the reflection for two seconds.”
She also spoke about the process of creating her first solo album, which will be released on Friday (March 31st). She also addressed the controversy over her duet with Chris Brown, “How Does It Feel?”, given his past history of violence against Rihanna. “I just let the music speak for itself,” Chlöe said. “Once the song came out, people enjoyed it. That’s what I just continue to do.”
Chlöe also spoke about her relationship with her sister Halle and joked about borrowing some outfits from her godmother. “Oh man, they told me on the album cover that that’s her dress”, Big Boy responded, sending the room into laughter.

In the photo shared the Twitter, Chlöe is seen with red hair, dressed in a Victorian-style blue dress, holding her heart in her right hand. In another post, the 24-year-old star opened up about what inspired the cover art and the rest of her upcoming album.
“I saw a photo of a porcelain doll 3 years ago, holding her heart just like this and from then, I said this will be my album cover… that same day I also wrote heart on my sleeve,” she recalled. “The beginning of a scary and exciting journey for me. This cover represents so much for me, down to the color of my hair. When I had red hair 1.5 years ago, it was one of the darkest times in my life. That’s why I never wore it again.”
Chlöe added that after healing and working on herself, she has learned to find “beauty in the pain” that encompassed her. “I find the beauty in my flaws and how in actuality, that’s what makes me perfect,” she shared. “I find beauty in all of the cracks that show people I’ve been broken down before, because I’ve gotten up every time. I wear my heart as my armor.”
She concluded by sharing how she hopes In Pieces will connect with her fans. “In Pieces is for the ones who behind closed doors are breaking and don’t know how much more they can take,” she wrote. “In Pieces is for the ones who hold the people up around them while barely holding themselves. In Pieces is for the people who continue to get stabbed in the back, heart broken by the ones they thought they could trust, but STILL that doesn’t change their heart and how they love. In Pieces is for the ones like me, who wear their outer shell so well that you’d have no idea what they’re going through.”
The singer continued, “I hope this project brings healing to those who listen, as it’s been completely therapeutic for me and I can’t wait to share my heart with you, literally.”
In Pieces is set to arrive on March 31 via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records. Chlöe has already released two songs from the album, including “Pray It Away” and her Chris Brown collaboration “How Does It Feel.”
