carpool karaoke

Shut up and … sing? The lovable paranormal beings and the “livings” of CBS’ Ghosts may not be trapped in a car like Sasappis’ ex-girlfriend Jessica, nor have they belted out Rihanna’s 2007 hit “Shut Up and Drive” on the sitcom, but they — or at least, the actors portraying them — did leave Woodstone […]

With The Late Late Show with James Corden coming to an end on Thursday night (April 27), producers revealed Beyoncé is the one artist they regret not getting on “Carpool Karaoke” during the show’s eight-year run.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday (April 27), showrunner Rob Crabbe admitted that “it would’ve been nice to have Beyoncé in the car.” The exec’s producing partner Ben Winston went on to explain that Beyoncé operates differently from most artists, making it understandable why she never got into the passenger seat. “She doesn’t do promo, really. She doesn’t need to. Think about her last album [2022’s Renaissance], that monster hit album, name one promo. She didn’t even do a music video,” he said.

But, Winston added that there were no hard feelings about missing out on a Beyoncé exclusive. “We always knew it was gonna be hard to get her singing in a car, but we would’ve loved it,” he said. “It’s all good though. I know she’s a fan of the show and she’s always been really lovely and responsive and we’d been close a couple of times, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

Over the years, host James Corden has convinced everyone from Lady Gaga and One Direction to Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder and Bad Bunny help him drive to work as they sang along to some of their biggest hits and fan favorites. While Mariah Carey was the first superstar to agree to the segment back in 2015, the final episode of “Carpool Karaoke” aired earlier this week with Adele surprising her pal by driving him to work and reflecting on his eight years hosting the popular late-night show.

The final episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden is set to air this Friday (April 28) on CBS. Read the producers’ full chat with THR here.

It’s the end of an automotive era: As James Corden wraps up his eight-year stint as host of The Late Late Show on Thursday night, his friend Adele took one last musical ride with him for the final Carpool Karaoke this week.

Of course, Adele carpooled with Corden for the first time back in 2016, when she famously rapped Nicki Minaj’s chaotic verse from Kanye West’s “Monster.” And she’s not the only repeat rider either: Harry Styles has done two solo Carpool Karaokes plus one with his One Direction mates; Justin Bieber has taken three trips with Corden; Nick Jonas rode twice, with the Jonas Brothers and with Demi Lovato; and Camila Cabello took a trip with her Cinderella co-stars and by herself.

On the new episode of the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are reflecting on a near-decade of musical rides with pop superstars and sharing our personal favorites. Listen below:

Also on the show, we’ve got chart news on how SZA’s “Kill Bill” finally reaches No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after patiently waiting for 17 weeks in the top 10, how Metallica rocks in with a No. 2 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart with their first original album in seven years 72 Seasons — and scores the biggest week for any rock album in over three years — and how Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj bring “Princess Diana” to the charts, as the buzzy new track bows in the top 10 on the Hot 100.

We’re also recapping two wild weekends of Coachella and looking ahead to who might headline in 2024.

We learned a lot of things in Diddy‘s “Carpool Karaoke” ride with James Corden on The Late Late Show Thursday night (April 20). For one, despite his myriad of stage names — Puffy, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Diddy, Sean “Diddy” Combs — there are exactly two people who are allowed to call him by his given name Sean.

His mom — typically when he’s in trouble — and Jay -Z. “We call each other Sean,” Diddy explained of the fellow MC born Shawn Carter. “There’s not a single person outside of my mother that should be calling me Sean.”

“You can call me any of the approved names,” Diddy told Corden. “I was born Puffy and then I became P. Diddy. Then they called me Diddy because I was so pretty. And then Puff Daddy and then I became who I am now, which is Love. L-O-V-E, not Brother Love, just Love.”

There is so much love, in fact, that when Corden asked Diddy to give him a new nickname for his “joyous, uplifting, fun” new era when his show ends its run next week, Combs said he was happy to share the Love, dubbing James “Love” as well. “We’re both Love, we’re both trying to have fun,” Combs said.

The catalog run began with the Bad Boy boss’ signature anthem, “Bad Boy For Life,” with Corden and Combs bouncing along to the song from Diddy’s third album, 2001’s The Saga Continues.

Corden also revealed that the rapper/entrepreneur’s eponymous 2001 hit “Diddy” kind of makes no sense. “The thing with that song, it goes, ‘It’s Diddy,’ and the chorus goes, ‘The D, the I, the D, the D, the Y, the D, the I, the D,’ which is Diddydid,” Corden pointed out in the most polite way possible after the pair bopped to the tune featuring the Neptunes. The always chill Combs explained that it’s about a vibe, describing how “you don’t have to say the rest of it,” because it’s implied and the last “dy” gets lost due to “silent letters.”

They agreed to disagree on that one and then locked in their flow for the Notorious B.I.G. tribute tune “I’ll Be Missing you,” with both men crooning Faith Evans’ keening chorus.

In the spiciest segment, father of three Corden congratulated Diddy on the birth of his seventh child in December, while soliciting advice for setting the perfect mood in the bedroom. Diddy said the baby was inspired by his move back into producing R&B via his Love Records label, which is all about making “baby-making music.”

Describing his “Super Bowl of R&B” playlist for lovemaking, Diddy then gave Corden step-by-step instructions for building the perfect intimate night: turn on a red light, put the kids to be, disconnect your phone, play some sensual music, do a little dancing, pour a bit of his signature tequila, press play on the mix and commence bopping.

“And then we take it, we go let’s…,” Corden asked swaying. “No, you gotta take your time and smell her and talk sweet nothings into her ear, man… it’s not a rush-in,” Diddy counseled. Then comes the conversation portion, which James suspected would go something like his wife saying, “‘I’m tired. I’m exhausted.’ She’ll then talk about we’ve got some mold, we’ve got a mold issue in the garage which you’ve got to sort out,” as Combs looked on with a confused look.

“How do I switch it from the mold and the termite issue back to the bop?” Corden wondered. “You say ‘shhhh… tonight it about you, don’t worry about the mold,’” Puff suggested. Things got even more explicit before the Loves slipped into “I Need a Girl (Part 2) and after a chat about the giant billboard Puff had in Times Square for a decade as a message to young people about perseverance and fortitude, the ride ended with a rousing run through Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.”

BLACKPINK wasted no time bringing the pop straight to your dome on Tuesday night’s (April 18) “Carpool Karaoke” ride on The Late Late Show. In what might be the series’ last commuter sing-along before host James Corden signs off next week, Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé dove straight into “Pink Venom,” bouncing in their seats after getting assurances that Corden is a decent driver, and, as it turns out, a superfan who impressed Lisa by grabbing a bit of the song’s rap break.
They also described the rigorous band training camp they survived as teens before blowing up, including lessons in popping and Krumping, with Jisoo displaying the “big hands” and “angry face” gestures needed to pull off the latter dance move. In a testament to their sweet natures, though, all four broke into smiles and laughs as they tried to prove their tough Krump face bona fides.

When Corden showed off his Krump moves, ending his arm flourish with a pair of middle fingers, a giggly Rosé said that was “too much!” They quickly slipped into another fan favorite, “DDU DU DDU DU,” with Rosé crooning into an imaginary microphone as they bounced down the road. As trainees, the quartet said the adored TLC for their singing/rapping style, which, naturally, led to a smooth-as-silk cover of the beloved hip-hop-soul trio’s 1999 hit “No Scrubs.”

Corden ticked off a long list of world records the group has lodged, including most-streamed girl group on Spotify, most-subscribed YouTube artist channel globally and first K-pop group to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts. So, of course, James challenged them to set some new Guinness world records, including the fastest time to assemble a Mr. Potato Head, the most hand claps in a minute and the most Jenga blocks removed in a minute.

Spoiler: they failed every one.

The failure didn’t last long as they busted into “How You Like That,” featuring Lisa’s swaggering rap and some backseat choreo from Jenny and Jisoo. The ride ended with the quartet fangirling over another generation’s No. 1 girl group: The Spice Girls, with Lisa saying she was obsessed with the British “Wannabe” singers as a kid and Jenny adding that she loved how they each had their own unique characters.

Corden couldn’t resist asking the women to come up with their own Spicy nicknames, with Rosé quickly dubbed “Aussie Pink,” Lisa named “Boss Pink,” Jenny taking “Shy Pink” and Jisoo rounding out with “Nail Pink.” They ended with a fun run through “Wannabe,” with Rosé throwing up hand hearts and all four going hard on the chorus.

On Saturday (April 15), BLACKPINK became the first Korean act to headline Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, after making history as the first K-pop girl group to perform at the legendary fest in 2019. . “So… let me start off with, four years ago we were invited to perform here for you at Coachella at the Sahara tent and that made a mark in all of our hearts,” Rosé told the crowd last weekend. ”I must say, this is a dream come true … the reason all four of us are here is because of you.”

Corden’s final Late Late Show will air on April 27.

Fresh off their jaw-dropping headlining set during Coachella’s first weekend, BLACKPINK is hitting the road with James Corden for one of the talk show host’s final Carpool Karaoke segments.

To tease the upcoming episode, Corden took to Instagram to share a video in which he’s seen in the car asking for “someone to help me get to work.” He then pans the camera to the passenger and back seats, where the stunning girl group is seen smiling and saying in unison, “BLACKPINK in your area!”

The Carpool Karaoke segment featuring Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé, airs on Tuesday night (April 18) during CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden. The piece will air in one of the late-night show’s final 12 episodes, which will conclude April 27.

On Saturday (April 15), the global superstars became the first Korean act to headline Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. “So… let me start off with, four years ago we were invited to perform here for you at Coachella at the Sahara tent and that made a mark in all of our hearts,” Rosé told the crowd during their set, which featured performances of hits like “Pink Venom,” “Lovesick Girls,” “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and many more. ”I must say, this is a dream come true … the reason all four of us are here is because of you.”

Zig-a-zig ahh! Brian Cox and Alan Cumming hopped in the car for an upcoming episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series and served up their best Spice Girls singalong.

In a preview clip from the episode, the Succession actor admits in a whisper that there’s one project he’s “really quite envious” of in his pal’s storied filmography: 1997’s Spice World. (Cumming memorably played Piers Cuthbertson-Smyth in the girl group’s campy trip across London on the big screen.) “Are you a Spice Girls fan?” the host of The Traitors asks upon Cox’s surprising admission, to which he readily admits, “I’m a closet Spice Girls fan.”

Cue the pair breaking into the fivesome’s 1996 breakout single “Wannabe,” though the latter might not have every word of the tongue-twisting opening memorized. “If you wanna be my lover/ You’ve gotta get with my friends/ Make it last forever/ Friendship never ends/ If you wanna be my lover/ You have got to give/ Takin’ is too easy/ But that’s the way it is,” they sing, though as soon as the song ends, Cox hilariously lets out, “I’m so glad that’s over, that was the one thing I was fearing of this whole f—ing thing. I know f–k-all about the Spice Girls.”

Elsewhere, the veteran actor reflects on his role as Logan Roy, saying, “I’ve been at it now for 60 years. Suddenly to have this extraordinary success telling people to f–k off, and actually, yeah, I love it.”

Cumming and Cox’s episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series premieres Friday (March 31) on Apple TV+. Watch Billboard‘s first look at their Spice Girls moment below.

Finding love is hard, but Lil Nas X is confident that the right person is out there … he just hasn’t met him yet.

On the latest episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden, the “That’s What I Want” artist appeared as a special guest on “Carpool Karaoke” to sing through his hits and even act in a soap opera for the very first time. But there was one moment during the segment that turned more than a few fans’ heads.

Chatting with Corden about his dating life (after noticing a hot man on the street), Lil Nas said that he had used the exclusive dating app Raya, but ultimately, he shared, “I’ve come to know that I don’t like dating famous people.”

When Corden followed up, asking if any of the famous men he’d met on the app were guests on “Carpool Karaoke,” the rapper didn’t hesitate: “For sure,” he confirmed.

Keeping the bit going, Corden’s immediate first guess as to who the mystery beau could have been was none other than jazz-pop singer Michael Bublé. Bursting into laughter, Lil Nas jokingly quipped, “Yeah, you caught me,” before asking if the “Sway” singer was a gay. “No,” Corden confirmed. “But he’s hot, and he’s got a hell of a voice.”

One person who certainly saw the funny side of the bit was Bublé himself, who retweeted the clip from The Late Late Show. While the original tweet’s caption specified that “@lilnasx isn’t dating @michaelbuble,” the crooner made sure to keep the joke alive. “Clearly out of my league,” he wrote in response.

Check out the full “Carpool Karaoke” segment above, and see Bublé’s response below:

Lil Nas X came to “Carpool Karaoke” to play. On Monday night’s (March 27) Late Late Show, the rapper hopped into the passenger seat with James Corden and hit all the musical high notes of his career, of course, while also realizing his soap opera dreams, spilling about celebrity dating apps and proclaiming himself a “woman of God.”
Rocking a powder blue gauzy top with a large silver cross on it, Lil Nas explained that it’s all about connection, leading Corden in a recitation of the mantra “I… am… a woman of God.” But when James said it was all very Mary Magdalene, turns out Nas skipped that part of the good book and, like, wasn’t familiar.

Regardless, the two easy segued into the MC’s 2019 breakthrough hit, “Old Town Road,” moseying down the road to the song’s languid beat before Corden surprised the former first chair trumpet player with a shiny horn. “I’m not really sure how to play this that well anymore,” Lil Nas stammered as Corden pulled out a matching instrument and they ripped some scales together.

“This sounds incredible,” Lil Nas bragged. “When I came up with this I thought, ‘oh this will be hilarious because we’ll be so bad,’” Corden admitted. “But now I’m here and it’s just two women of God playing the trumpet,” he said to Nas X’s delight. They then busted out a pretty credible horn intro to “Industry Baby,” before running through the 2021 hit that featured Jack Harlow.

Lil Nas also talked about how he dates these days, confessing that he has used celebrity dating app Raya, but now tries to find his partners in the real world. “I’ve met quite a few famous guys,” he said, without naming names, prompting Corden to ask if any of them had done “Carpool” in the past. “For sure,” Nas X said to Corden’s glee. But even as Lil Nas seemed determined to keep his dating life private, Corden kept poking around trying to suss out who it could be.

The new best friends bounced through “That’s What I Want” before Corden sprung a big surprise on budding actor Lil Nas by taking him to the set of the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, where they played a pair of busboys in an emotional restaurant scene. Annoyed that he didn’t get any lines — to Lil Nas’ nine — Corden complained bitterly as the rapper tried, and failed, to deliver his dialogue without cracking up.

His SAG car punched, Nas X slipped back in the car for a final performance, going out on “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).”
