Nobody does it like Bad Bunny. But who is Bad Bunny? What’s his story? And how did he become the superstar that he is? This is Billboard Explains: Bad Bunny’s Rise to the Top.

Bad Bunny was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, in 1994. He sang in the church choir and started freestyling in junior high as a way to impress his friends. He developed an interest in artists he heard on the radio, like Daddy Yankee and Héctor Lavoe. After high school, he went to college and began uploading self-produced songs to SoundCloud under the name Bad Bunny. His song “Diles” caught the attention of producers and Noah Assad of Rimas, who soon became his manager.

Bad Bunny made his Billboard chart debut with “Tu No Vive Asi” with Mambo Kingz, DJ Luian and Arcangel. The song debuted at No. 48 on Hot Latin Songs in 2016 and later peaked at No. 20. Bad Bunny was a part of many successful singles, including the Grammy-nominated hit “I Like It” with Cardi B and J Balvin, which reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2018. Later that year, he released his debut album and it peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. He joined Latin superstars Shakira and Jennifer Lopez on stage at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show and dropped his album YHLQMDLG.

The brand new track came together after Bruno went on socials asking Sexyy Red to make a “strip club anthem.” It was to celebrate his No. 1 with Lady Gaga and his No. 1 with ROSÉ. Well in iconic fashion, he got them both in the video for the new track. The song and video show all the ways this crew is iconic. Can you also not get enough? Tremonti Scores First Top 10 on Album Sales Chart With ‘The End Will Show Us How’

Rock band Tremonti notches its first top 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart as The End Will Show Us How debuts at No. 10 on the chart dated Jan. 25. The project also bows at No. 14 on Top Hard Rock Albums and No. 34 on Independent Albums. Fronted by Mark Tremonti, the band has logged six charting efforts on Top Album Sales, stretching back to 2012’s All I Was.

Also in the top 10 of the latest Top Album Sales chart, Taylor Swift’s reissued Lover: Live From Paris reenters at No. 1, Heidi Montag’s 2010 album Superficial debuts at No. 4 following an outpouring of fan support following the loss of her home in the Pacific Palisades fire, and Ringo Starr logs his first top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart with the No. 7 arrival of his new country set Look Up.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album (TEA) units and streaming equivalent album (SEA) units.

Tremonti’s The End Will Show Us How sold nearly 7,000 copies in its first week, landing the band its best sales week since 2018. The album was led by the radio single “Just Too Much,” which climbs 31-26 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart (dated Jan. 25), making it the highest-charting hit ever on the chart for the band. The group has logged seven entries on the radio tally in total.

At No. 1 on Top Album Sales, Taylor Swift’s reissued Lover: Live From Paris reenters atop the list with 202,500 copies sold – largely from vinyl purchases. It’s the 15th No. 1 for Swift on the chart – the most in the chart’s 33-year history.

The Wicked film soundtrack is a non-mover at No. 2 with 12,000 (down 23%) and Chappell Roan’s chart-topping The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess moves 5-3 with 11,000 (up 28%).

Heidi Montag’s 2010 album Superficial surges onto the chart at No. 4 with 11,000 copies sold (up from a negligible sum the previous week). After Montag and husband Spencer Pratt lost their home in the Pacific Palisades wildfire in Los Angeles, the pair took to social media to encourage fans to purchase the album and stream its songs to help the family rebuild and generate income. The couple are best known for the appearances on reality TV programs, most famously on MTV’s The Hills.

Stray Kids’ former leader HOP falls 3-5 with 10,000 sold (down 24%) and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet slides 4-6 with 9,000 (down 5%).

Ringo Starr lands his first top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart with the No. 7 debut of Look Up, selling 8,000 copies. It also grants The Beatles’ drummer with his second top 40-charting effort (and highest yet) on Top Country Albums.

Rounding out the rest of the latest top 10 are Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos, falling 6-8 in its second week with nearly 8,000 (down 3%) and Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, slipping 7-9 with nearly 7,000 (down 5%).

I think that the main goal about ‘Something Else’ is really like you just become that big, that so so giant, that everything is super big, and then you just miss also a different kind of connection you know?

Tetris Kelly:

Alok has transformed to Something Else, and with a new name comes a brand-new track.

When you say ‘Something Else,’ I don’t want to say that one kind of style of genre. I just want to be like ‘it’s something else from that Alok pop that you saw Belém.’ You know?

Tetris Kelly:

The Brazilian dance icon spoke exclusively with Billboard about branching out from pop with this new sound.

Alok:

What happened is that, you know, I’ve been performing for the last 20 years or more, and I started with, like, side trends, very underground. And then I made a choice in my life, which was like, I wanted to go into more of this pop world, and I became this pop artist, you know, you’re playing for, like, 1 million people. You’re playing those big structures and, you know, this massive production. And of course, sometimes when you’re going to play in some places where it doesn’t fit so much, you know, this huge structure, I just feel that there’s a lot of people that I want to connect with and they also want to connect with me.

The 2025 Oscar nominations are out, and we’re running through the biggest nominations. From Ariana Grande to Zoe Saldana, keep watching to find out who was nominated!

Ariana Grande is nominated as Selena Gomez is snubbed, and both their musical movies receive tons of noms. We’re diving into today’s Oscar nominations. Ariana shared the sweetest post of baby Ari performing Wicked as she emotionally gushed about her best supporting actress nomination at the Academy Awards. Her co-star Cynthia Erivo also picked up a nomination for best actress, and the film grabbed 10 nominations total, including best picture.

Selena Gomez did not receive a nomination for her role in the musical Emilia Pérez. Her co-star Zoe Saldana did receive a nom for best supporting actress, though, as well as Karla Sofía Gascón for best actress. The film itself grabbed 13 noms total, including best picture.

This week’s chart sees some major shakeups with half of the top 10 being filled with newbies. Supa King’s “Tell On Me” knocks Bad Bunny to No. 2 to claim the top spot on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting Jan. 23, while another Supa climbs 34 to five. So Supa, Tre Loaded and Big Boogie make the biggest leap of the week with “Dumb Crasy (Remix)” thanks to users dancing against a wall. SZA and Kendrick Lamar jump 10 spots with “30 for 30,” while Sexyy Red adds another top 10 to her catalog thanks to “She’s Back” trending after the brief banning of the app. And rounding out our top 10 is “Loco” by Netón Vega.

Chris Brown has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery for their documentary ‘Chris Brown: A History of Violence.’ Keep watching for the full details about the case.

Chris Brown is suing for $500 million after a documentary is saying he has a history of violence. We have the story as it’s developing. The “Loyal” singer has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, alleging the media giant defamed him with a 2024 documentary claiming that the R&B star had a long history of sexually abusing women. He’s accusing the production company behind ‘Chris Brown: A History of Violence,’ of “promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads, and dollars and to the detriment” of the R&B star — all while “knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalistic principles.” The Jane Doe who made sexual assault accusations against Brown in the documentary is also named as a defendant in the complaint as well as several individuals who appeared as talking heads in the doc. Brown is asking for $500 million in damages, “a portion of which will be donated to survivors of sexual abuse.” Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment did not immediately respond to Billboard’s requests for comment.

Ringo Starr’s New Country Set ‘Look Up’ Arrives in Top 10 on Album Sales Chart

Ringo Starr earns his first top 10 on Billboard’s all-genre Top Album Sales chart (which dates to 1991) as Look Up enters the list dated Jan. 25 at No. 7. The effort from The Beatles’ iconic drummer also arrives across a host of other Billboard album tallies, including Indie Store Album Sales (No. 2), Top Rock Albums (No. 7), Americana/Folk Albums (No. 12), Top Country Albums (a career-best No. 27) and Top Rock & Alternative Albums (No. 30). On the overall Billboard 200, it starts at No. 147, marking Starr’s 20th entry, dating to his first, Sentimental Journey, in 1970.

The 11-song album, recorded in Nashville and produced by T Bone Burnett, was released Jan. 10, on the revived Lost Highway imprint.

Starr recently told Billboard, “I did love country music before I was in (The Beatles). We got plenty of it in Liverpool, because the lads who were in the merchant navy would bring not only rock and roll over, but country — and when country bands went on tour in England, they always played Liverpool.” The new set boasts a host of collaborators from the worlds of country, Americana/folk and bluegrass, including Alison Krauss, Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle.

Look Up earned 9,000 equivalent album units in the tracking week ending Jan. 16 in the United States, according to Luminate, with 8,000 of that sum in traditional album sales.

That 8,000-sales figure yields Starr’s No. 7 arrival on Top Album Sales, marking his first top 10 and his 14th chart appearance on the 33-year-old chart, whose history dates to May of 1991, when Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Starr had previously peaked at No. 11 with 2021’s Zoom In.

Meanwhile Look Up charts on multiple other surveys. It opens at a career-best No. 27 on Top Country Albums, marking his second entry – and second top 40-charting effort – on the list. The 84-year-old previously appeared on Top Country Albums when Beaucoups of Blues hit No. 35 in December 1970.

Plus, Look Up starts at No. 12 on Americana/Folk Albums marking Starr’s first appearance on the 15-year-old chart.

Are Bruno Mars and Sexyy Red creating the next great strip-club anthem? Bruno Mars has a lot to celebrate this week with both of his latest collaborations topping the Billboard charts.

Bruno has topped both the Billboard Hot 100 with his Lady Gaga collab “Die With a Smile” and the Billboard Global 100 with his Rosé collab “APT.” Bruno took to Instagram to share his chart-topping news while ending his post mentioning a very specific way that he wants to celebrate, “THANK YOU ALL! ? I’m headed to the studio right now to make a strip club anthem so I can celebrate and properly act up this weekend. Someone please help me get in touch with Sexyy Red!!?”

Not one to miss out on a good time, the “Get It Sexyy” rapper quickly responded on Twitter. She first responded with, “I heard Bruno say he lookin for ah real bthc baby I’m right hur @BrunoMars ??‍♀️”

Then Sexyy Red and Bruno Mars had a playful back and forth with Red tweeting, “Heyyyyyy Bruno! @BrunoMars ?” to which he replied, “There she is. ♥️”
