Sigal Ratner-Arias:Nobody wanted to record them because it was too risky.
Leila Cobo:But great songs can be redone, and their connection is still the same.
Isabela Raygoza:Latin music is timeless because it has to do with our ancestry and our heritage, and in a way, also our identity, because it really does date back for centuries.
Leila Cobo:You cannot talk about the roots of Latin music without talking about the big ranchera mariachi, names of the golden age of Mexican music and cinema. We have Vicente Fernandez, we have Don Antonio Aguilar.
Sigal Ratner-Arias:Celia Cruz was the queen of salsa, as you may know, la reina de la salsa, she used to say, “¡Azúcar!”
Isabela Raygoza:Later, Don Pedro Infante, María Félix, Chavela Vargas.
Leila Cobo:These trailblazers, in my opinion, paved the way and opened the door for Latin artists.
Alex Torres:I believe that the music of Grupo Niche, the story that Grupo Niche tells with its repertoire, plays a very positive role.
Leila Cobo:Storytelling in Latin music is one of the essential elements. And it all stems from this “I’m going to tell you a story in my song.” The role that folklore in songs like “La Llorona” has played is huge.

Billboard Latin Music Week culminated with its 35th anniversary party, and we have all the highlights from the event, including an appearance from Spicy Tam, the real-life emoji formerly known as the woman dancing.
Isabela Raygoza:Hola, mi gente. It’s Isabela Raygoza at Billboard Latin Music Week, and I’m joined by Spicy Tam, the real-life emoji formerly known as “the woman dancing.” How are you feeling, Spicy Tam?
Spicy Tam:I’m so excited to be celebrating 35 years of Latin music, and I even have some moves to show off.
Isabela Raygoza:Let’s see ’em! To honor more than three decades of our celebration of Latin music, the biggest names in the genre took to Miami for festivities.
Spicy Tam:And the week wrapped with the 35th anniversary party featuring yours truly.
Isabela Raygoza:At the concert event, which took place at the Fillmore, attendees were treated to giveaways, photo ops and, of course, custom cocktails provided by Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind. Cheers, girl!
Spicy Tam:Ay! And I even got to show off some of my dance moves ahead of the big show.
Isabela Raygoza:The night saw comedian George Harris kick off the show, which also featured Ana Mena, Belinda, Tito Doble P, Young Miko and more.

Damien Scott:They want participation, but they don’t, themselves, want to participate.
Carl Lamarre:Hip-hop is back clearly on the Billboard 200 in terms of we got Mr. Rod Wave debuting at No. 2 this week with Last Lap with 127,000 while Ms. Glo, big Glo.
Kyle Denis:Big Glo!
Carl Lamarre:No. 5 this week with 69,000 her debut album, Glorious, doubling her mixtape which came out earlier this year, Ehhthang Ehhthang, so shout out to those two for making their splashes this week. We’ll start with this: What are you guys more surprised about I guess — is it Rod not going No. 1? Is it Glo getting a top five entry? Thoughts.
Damien Scott:It’s got to be Glo because this is just what Rod does, Rod is just nothing if not consistent, and you know I think the idea of him going up against a Jelly … I thought he was going to take it, but you know, especially because I like Jelly Roll, I do. I actually like Jelly Roll. I don’t think this was the album that I would see he would, if I had to play an album for people, this is not the album I would give people to listen to of his.

“It’s always interesting to meet your peers that you’ve influenced,” says Zac Hanson.
As the trio Hanson, Zac and his brothers Taylor and Isaac have, after all, been making music together for 30 years — the equivalent of an entire career for many artists. Those peers have included some of today’s biggest hitmakers, who’ve looked to Hanson’s success and stability as a potential model for their own.
“We sat in our studio with Billie Eilish and FINNEAS when they happened to be in town, [with] their parents talking to us saying, ‘We basically decided they should make music ’cause we saw Hanson and you guys seemed like you were OK,’” Taylor recalls. “Like, that’s insane … and here they are, they’ve done incredible, beautiful work.”
Other artists, the brothers reveal, have visited Hanson simply looking to get their take on new music. “In the same studio, Ed Sheeran, when he was opening for Taylor Swift, [was] like, ‘I wanna play you some songs.’ … And you’re just going, ‘This is really fun!’” Isaac says with a laugh.
Hanson is currently celebrating 20 years since going independent and starting their own label, 3CG Records, where they released their third album, Underneath. The band is on a North American tour in support of a deluxe re-release, Underneath: Complete.
“These songs are all richer, layered, we produced a great deal of it,” Taylor says of Underneath. “It’s a record that really works well in a live setting and it’s exciting to go back and really lean into those songs,” which include the radio hit “Penny and Me.”
In a wide-ranging and loose chat with Billboard News, the Hanson brothers also talk about their foray into beer-making with their Mmmhops Pale Ale, also getting a re-release, alongside a new beer, Pink Moonlight Hazy Peach IPA, created in collaboration with noted independent craft brewery Destihl.
