Kendrick Lamar Trolled Online, Lil Wayne’s New ‘A Milli’ Remix, Usher to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award | Billboard News

Kendrick Lamar is trolled online by TDE’s Punch Henderson, Lil Wayne remixes his track “A Milli” for Domino’s, and Usher is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at 2024 BET Awards.

Tetris Kelly:
Kendrick is being called out for being a “Certified Lover Boy,” Weezy is giving out 10 milli, and Usher gets a huge BET honor. Here’s three things going down in hip-hop and R&B. Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss topped our Billboard Hot 100, but he’s more like Drake than we think? After this Chanel photo dropped, Kendrick’s longtime partner Top Dawg’s Punch Henderson commented “Certified Loverboy lol” and even posted their text convo where K-Dot says “I think I’m cute on there man. Couldn’t resist.” Ayo Kendrick, everybody deserves to feel cute, not just the “Certified Lover Boy.”

Lil Wayne is partnering with Uber Eats in honor of its new union with Domino’s Pizza, which has never been on the app. They’re giving away $10 million in free pizza and remixed Weezy’s iconic track “A Milli” to promote it. Meanwhile can we get delivery today? I’m hungry. Is Lil Wayne here?

And congrats are in order for Usher. The R&B King is receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award of the 2024 BET Awards. The show will air live on the East Coast on Sunday June 30 at 8pm. The 30-year industry vet is also nominated for four awards at this year’s ceremony, including Album of the Year.

Will Billie Eilish dethrone Tommy Richman for the No. 1 spot this week on the TikTok Billboard Top 50? Plus, Tinashe’s “Nasty” climbs to No. 7 and more!

Tetris Kelly:
“Million Dollar Baby” continues its reign, but the top 10 sees some major mix ups. Tommy Richman tops the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting May 30. It matches Lay Bankz’s run with “Tell Ur Girlfriend.”

Debuting at No. 3 is “Birds of a Feather” by Billy Eilish. It’s just one of five tracks from Eilish’s new album that made the chart.

Tinashe’s “Nasty” climbs to seven. It seems like everyone’s trying to find someone to match their freak. “Close,” another R&B track by Cayo jumps from 28 to nine, while Luis R Conriquez  and Neton Vega round up the top 10 with “Si No Quieres No,” which has a ton of users lip-synching to the hit.

“I’m happy and I hope this a new beginning in my career,” Díaz tells Billboard. “It’s always great to see oneself in lists such as Billboard, continuing the sound with which one started.”

Sayonara, which dropped on May 17, the first day of the tracking week, earned 7,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending May 23, according to Luminate. The album’s opening sum is mostly driven by streaming activity. The figure equals to 9.58 million on-demand official streams for the set’s songs during the tracking week.

Trending on Billboard

Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums [TEA] and streaming equivalent albums [SEA]. Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

Díaz returns to Latin Rhythm Albums for the first time since Dec. 2016, when San Juan Grand Prix, his first chart entry there, debuted and peaked at No. 4, for one week in the top 10.

Elsewhere, the Puerto Rican claims his third entry on the overall Top Latin Albums, where Sayonara launches at No. 14. While San Juan Grand Prix concurrently earned Díaz his maiden chart performance in 2016, in between Felicilandia arrived at its No. 48 high in Nov. 2021.

Only one song preceded Sayonara, “1000Canciones” with San Senra, Díaz’s second top 10: No. 10 peak in April 2023, after “A Donde Van,” with Sebastián Yatra, took him to an equal No. 10 high in Oct. 2020.

Beyond “1000Canciones,” the set’s “Gatitas Sandungueras, Vol. 1,” with Feid, opens at No. 34 on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs charts, which combines airplay, digital sales and streams. The song logged 2.3 million official U.S. streams.

Ben Platt Talks New Album ‘HONEYMIND,’ Inspiration From Taylor Swift & Beyoncé | Billboard News

Ben Platt shares the creative process behind his new album ‘HONEYMIND,’ how he’s inspired by Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s performances, how his career and personal transitions influenced the album and more!

Ben Platt:

I started writing the album in the spring of 2022 in Nashville and sort of wrote this first series of songs that kind of became the kind of like nest egg of the whole thing. And at that stage, I was very much in a kind of point of transition personally and career-wise, where I was reinvestigating kind of my reasons for being an artist.

Tetris Kelly:

Ben Platt has conquered Broadway, TV and film with his character work. With his third album, ‘HONEYMIND,’ out Friday, he’s showing more of himself than ever.

Ben Platt:

On top of that it was also settling into my, now you know, well, soon-to-be marriage with my partner Noah, and so the album started to take shape as this kind of crossroads between what it feels like to arrive in your kind of real relationship and to have a partner that you feel like really understands you holistically. And then also how do you as a person need to continue to work to understand and care for yourself to really be ready for a relationship like that?

Tetris Kelly:

His relationship with fiancée Noah Galvin, take center stage in Ben’s music video for “Cherry on Top,”

Rebecca Milzoff:

It was like a home movie. How did you to go through that day or days it took to do that?

Ben Platt:

I love to keep some things sacred and private.

Britney Spears Interviews Tate McRae: Has She Passed On Her Princess of Pop Crown? | Billboard News

After being compared to Britney Spears for her electric performances, Tate McRae finally got interviewed by the Princess of Pop, Britney Spears. Has Britney passed her crown along to Tate? Keep watching to find out!

Tetris Kelly:

Britney Spears has interviewed Tate McRae. Yeah, you heard us right. The Gen Z pop star was blessed by the Queen and we’re breaking down the quotes. Thank you V magazine. As Tate McRae graces their cover, they somehow got Britney Spears to chat with her. Tate has been compared to the pop star because of her electric performances. And we even asked her about it.

Tetris Kelly:

Is that a compliment to you? Do you look up to Britney?

Tate McRae:

Obviously it’s such an honor. Um, I mean, I literally adore her, I read her book. I literally just love everything about her, I’ve watched all her performances and her videos and yeah, I think she’s an icon.

Tetris Kelly:

But now she’s questioned by the Queen herself. Britney stated, “You’re an incredible performer. I’ve seen some of your performances and each one continues to top the next. Where do you find inspiration?” With Tate responding, “That means so much coming from you. One of my favorite parts of the process is playing around and finding new variations of each song- I feel like that always inspires new choreography and a different feeling. However, looking back at iconic performances (like yours) is also very motivating.” And when Britney asked, “What is the hardest part of being an artist of your stature at this point?” Tate said,”I would say the pressure I put on myself. I have been a perfectionist my entire life, so sometimes the hyper-critical thoughts can fully consume you. I try to trust my gut as much as possible and not take in that many outside opinions.” Would you say the crown has been passed? Let us know in the comments.

Watch Manuel Medrano Call His New Album ‘Perfecto’ a ‘Tribute to Pop’

After navigating the spaces between funk, disco and rock in his first two albums, Colombian singer-songwriter Manuel Medrano reveals that his third studio album, Perfecto, is mostly pop. “I think it’s a tribute to pop,” Medrano tells Billboard‘s Leila Cobo in an interview for Billboard News. “It’s also a way to show a little bit of everything I’ve learned in my processes.”

Since he debuted in 2015 with a self-titled album that earned him the 2016 Latin Grammy Award for best new artist and best singer-songwriter album, Medrano has taken several years between one project and another. His second LP, Eterno, came out in 2021.

“I feel it’s normal for an artist to take four or five, sometimes seven years to release an album,” he said. “The processes of modern music involve many people working for an artist, many songwriters, many producers, with a huge infrastructure for an artist to release songs every weekend. I come from another school.”

Continuing, Medrano added that he was “not criticizing the processes of other artists either, they seem fabulous and I’m connecting more and more with them.” But, when it comes to his own personal release strategy, the singer said that he leans “a little more traditional — me with my guitar, in special moments of my life, in my happy place. More intimate, getting everything out, putting everything on the table.”

Dressed in a cream suit over a black silky shirt, Medrano also spoke about his tattoos — he revealed what the next one he plans to get is — and even sang a snippet of one of the new unreleased songs from the album, “Mojado”. Watch the full interview in the video above.

Manuel Medrano Shares Name of Third Album ‘Perfecto’ & Previews New Song ‘Mojado’ | Billboard News

After three years, Manuel Medrano announces the release of his third album, ‘Perfecto.’ He gives us a sneak peek of new single “Mojado,” his upcoming tour, explains why it took him so long to release his third album and more!

Manuel Medrano:

Hi everyone, I am Manuel Medrano and you are watching Billboard News.

Leila Cobo:

Manuel Medrano, welcome to Billboard.

Manuel Medrano:

Leila, what a pleasure.

Leila Cobo:

First of all, tell me about your look. I love all your looks, and you look very ’50s. Tell me, what are you wearing?

Manuel Medrano:

Thank you very much. It is a classic suit, bone color, a beige color with a shirt I recently discovered that comes with this knot here.

Leila Cobo:

Yes it seems like… You look from Pamplona as if you’re going to run with the bulls.

Manuel Medrano:

I like this classic style, a little elegant. I am taking my style towards that.

Leila Cobo:

This style contrasts with the tattoos because here we have an entire sleeve, tattoos down there, there too. The fire. So this is…

Manuel Medrano:

This is for kitesurf.

Leila Cobo:

Really?

Manuel Medrano:

Yes, make the board look cool.

Leila Cobo:

Is there a new tattoo for the new music?

Manuel Medrano:

There is a new tattoo for the new music. I have a broken heart here. I have a little angel here in honor of my second album. And a new tattoo is coming for my new album. You are the first person to know this.

Leila Cobo:

I can’t believe it. But you haven’t done it yet?

Manuel Medrano:

Not yet. But very possibly I will do it this week.

NLE Choppa Breaks Down Kendrick Lamar Vs. Drake Beef | Billboard News

Ahead of NLE Choppa’s interview release, we give you a sneak peek where he breaks down the Kendrick Lamar & Drake beef, who won, and more!

NLE Choppa:

I think the win is like, you know, how Kendrick go home and feel about it, and how Drizzy will go home and feel about it. I think the win would be like both of them coming together and doing a song together. I think that’s one of the most beautiful wins.

Tetris Kelly:

NLE Choppa breaks down the Kendrick versus Drake beef and talks about his with Blueface.

NLE Choppa:

I can kill you on the beat and then I call you and be like “Hey bro, I’m done f—ing with you.” It gets real about the dangers of hip-hop taking it to the streets. At the end of the day, you don’t want to die, I don’t want to die. It can go either way.

Tetris Kelly:

We have a preview ahead of his full interview next week, but first his thoughts on the return of diss track culture.

NLE Choppa:

I fee like it serves a purpose to a certain extent. I love to look at it from like a competitive standpoint. I love to see competitiveness you know rather than sports, but with rap, when it comes with rap and competitiveness, sometimes it gets a little risky because some people really take it to the heart. I feel like that’s the part of it that you really got to tread lightly on because a lot of these people walking with a certain type of pride on their shoulder.
