Mike Will Made-It is releasing his first album in seven years, R3set. He shares what his fans can expect from his new work, what it was like to work with Rihanna and Beyonce, why Miley Cyrus constantly “inspires” him, his journey as a producer and more!

Catrise Johnson:Hey, everyone. It’s your girl, Catrise J, and we are here with Mike Will Made-It. Congratulations on your new album, R3set. It’s your first album in seven years. How do you feel?

Mike Will Made-It:Man, it’s been a journey for real. Like it’s Ransom 3. So like each Ransom is like over, like different phases, and like Ransom stands for, like, releasing all new songs, orchestrated by might well. When I came out with the first one, it was like me coming after that, 2012, 2013, 2014 run. But it was a buzz tool for me at the time, because I was like, “Man, I can put together Kendrick, Wayne and Future in the song and make ‘Buy the World.’ I can put together Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. I could put Future and Swae Lee, and on the track and make ‘Drinks on Us.’” Like that’s how I was coming about the first Ransom, and I wanted to do it as many times as possible.

And the second Ransom, I wanted to do like a little refined version of that, Gucci Mane, Kendrick, Rae Sremmurd, “Perfect. Pint.” YG, 21 and the Migos “Gucci On My.” We had some cool collaborations on that. And that was also a long project. And around that time, right there, I had lost my hard drives. My hard drives had gotten stolen.

I heard about that.

Yeah, I really eased back from the music. And then I started buying real estate. So I bought about my studio that I work here right now in Atlanta, like when I first got that, it would just be like, couple TVs on the wall, we’d just be in there gambling on 2K. I wasn’t even, I wasn’t really tripping on the music like that.

Keep watching for more!

Ricardo Arjona, the Guatemalan singer/songwriter who has defined Latin music as much for his signature songwriting permeated in storytelling as for his longstanding history of sell-out tours, has signed an exclusive, worldwide distribution deal with Interscope Capitol Labels Group.
Under the new agreement—signed via his label, Metamorfosis, which he created in 2011—Arjona’s vast catalog of nearly 300 songs, plus his future releases, will fall under Interscope Capitol Labels Group, Billboard can reveal. Likewise, Arjona will now be part of the label’s roster.

Arjona’s move to Interscope Capitol follows stints with Sony Music, which was his longtime label and most recently distributed him, and Warner Music.

Trending on Billboard

The partnership with Interscope Capitol will launch with Arjona’s new studio album, SECO, slated for release in early 2025. The album was written during a difficult time for Arjona, when he was wheelchair bound after a back injury at the end of his tour last December and thought he would no longer be able to perform.

In that period, he wrote “Todo termina,” (Everything Ends). The song is one of three singles from SECO that will be released in November; the other two are “Despacio que hay prisa” and “Todo termina”. Plans call for two additional singles to be released in December, before Arjona kicks off 2025 with a SECO residency in New York and his native Guatemala.

Arjona, whose chart history dates back 30 years, to 1994, has placed five No. 1s and 18 top 10s on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. His last entry on the chart was in 2016. On Top Latin Albums, he’s placed five No. 1s and 15 top 10s. His latest album, released in 2022, peaked at No. 46 on the chart.

But Arjona’s musical output continues to be prolific and his touring record continues to be extraordinary. Last year alone, he landed at No. 11 on Billboard’s year-end Latin touring chart, selling 224,341 tickets and grossing $27.3 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. He is currently the No. 15 highest-grossing Latin touring act of all time, according to Boxscore.

“I speak on behalf of the entire Metamorfosis team when I say we are deeply motivated and profoundly appreciative to collaborate with Interscope Capitol Labels Group,” comments Ricardo Arjona Torres, who is Arjona’s son and runs Metamorfosis. “This resilient team not only showcases a curated and dynamic array of artists but also truly understands their vision.”

“We are incredibly honored to welcome Ricardo Arjona to the Interscope Capitol family. As one of the most iconic artists in the Spanish-speaking world, Ricardo has shaped the musical landscape in ways that transcend generations. We are committed to promoting his legendary catalog while partnering with him on the exciting projects he has in the works,” said Nir Seroussi, executive vice president at Interscope Capitol Labels Group.

“This partnership isn’t just a milestone—it’s a testament to our commitment to artistry, passion, and pushing boundaries,” added Jose Cedeño, SVP of Interscope Capitol Labels Group in Miami. “Ricardo Arjona’s music weaves deep connections between people, and together, we aim to amplify that reach,” he added.

Shakira earns a new career milestone with her latest single “Soltera,” as the song rallies 25-4 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart (dated Oct. 26), for her 41st top 10 on the overall ranking. Shakira’s record-extending 41st top 10s among female acts on Latin Airplay lands a week after the Colombian superstar also achieved a dual landmark on Latin Pop Airplay, where she tied Iglesias for the most No. 1s on and opened a wider gap from her female peers, with 25 career champs.

“Soltera” lands at the penthouse on Latin Airplay after registering 6.3 million audience impressions for the tracking week ending Oct. 17, according to Luminate. That sum equates to a 63% improvement in radio airplay from the previous period, which yields a Greatest Gainer award for the week.

“Soltera” also repeats at its No. 1 best on Latin Pop Airplay for a second week, after the song debuted at No. 12 on Sony Music Latin on chart dated Oct. 12.

Plus, as the female empowerment anthem flies to No. 4 on Latin Airplay, Shakira enters a tie with Iglesias for the most top 10s among Latin pop acts since the overall tally began in 1994. Here’s the recap of the acts with the most top 10s, where Shakira continues to strike as the only female presence:

49, Daddy Yankee42, J Balvin41, Enrique Iglesias41, Shakira39, Ozuna

“Soltera” also makes additional confident rounds across Billboard charts. It enters the top 10 on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs, rising 13-9, with gains in sales and streams. The song generated 4.3 million official U.S. streams, according to Luminate, enough to yield a No. 15 high on Latin Streaming Songs. Sales, meanwhile, account for nearly 1,000 U.S. downloads, which translates to a 3-2 climb after it topped Latin Digital Song Sales for one week (Oct. 12).

Globally, “Soltera” rises 71-28 on Billboard Global 200 with 37.1 millions streams worldwide, and 48-16 on the Global Excl. U.S. tally with 33.2 million streams outside the U.S., her best ranking on the latter since the No. 8-peaking “Acróstico” in June 2023.

Shakira’s career milestones follows the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran North American leg tour announcement which will be rescheduled to spring 2025, with several markets now upgraded to stadiums.

The Brat summer is back.
Charli XCX bags her first No. 1 on Australia’s albums chart with Brat (via Atlantic/Warner), which powers home 16-1 following the release of the Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat, the British producer and artist’s long-awaited remix album.

The new collection includes tracks reworked with the likes of The 1975, Jon Hopkins, Tinashe and Australasian stars Troye Sivan and Lorde.

Previously, Brat peaked at No. 3 on the ARIA Chart earlier this year. Several tracks from it bounce up the singles chart, for the week starting Oct. 21, including former No. 1 “Guess” (with Billie Eilish), up from 22-16, “360” reenters at No. 43, and “Talk Talk” rebounds at No. 49. Also, Charli scores the highest new entry of the week with “Sympathy Is A Knife” debuting at No. 21; the version on the new album features Ariana Grande.

Charli XCX, who is the headliner for the 2025 Laneway Festival tour of Australia, tickets for which went on sale this week, knocks Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet (Island/Universal) off the chart summit after six non-consecutive weeks, down 1-2, while Rufus du Sol lands at No. 3 with Inhale / Exhale (Warner), the homegrown electronic music act’s fifth studio album.

The trio has snagged a Grammy Award and four ARIAs; they’re nominated for four more at this year’s ceremony, set for Nov. 20 at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. To date, all of RDS’s albums have hit the top 3 in Australia: Atlas (2013), Bloom (2016) and Surrender (2021) went to No. 1, and Solace (2018) peaked at No. 2.

Close behind is American rockers The Offspring with Supercharged (Concord/Universal), new at No. 4. It’s The Offspring’s ninth Australian top 10 album, a tally that includes No. 1s with Smash (1994) and Americana (1998).

Though she’s finally shunted from the top of the ARIA Albums Chart, Sabrina Carpenter collects an eighth straight week at No. 1 on the singles survey with “Taste”.

There’s no stopping Kylie Minogue, with her latest album, Tension II (via BMG), on track to become her landmark 10th U.K. No. 1 album on the Offical Albums Chart, according to their latest midweek blast.

After just 48 hours of sales, the album has moved over 28,800 chart units, placing it far ahead of its nearest competitor by more than 2:1. If she secures the top spot, this will mark yet another major milestone for the Australian pop star, whose previous album, Tension (also via BMG), also topped the U.K Chart in 2023.

It comes after the singing legend announced the North American leg of her tour in support of the new album, which is slated to kick off on March 29 with a gig at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and take the “Lights Camera Action” singer to Montreal, Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Austin, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and Denver before winding down with a May 2 show at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The midweek blast also sees British singer-songwriter Rag’n’Bone Man’s soulful third album What Do You Believe In? (Columbia) aiming for a No. 2 debut, which would follow on from the success of Human and Life By Misadventure (Columbia).

Another exciting new entry comes from Australian dance group Confidence Man, whose third record 3AM (LA LA LA) (via HAOS/Polydor Records/I OH YOU Records) is eyeing a Top 5 debut. The band’s infectious sound is already a festival favorite, and their climb to No. 4 on the midweek charts suggests they could make their Official Albums Chart debut in a major way.

National Album Day has sparked a resurgence for some of Britain’s biggest musical legends. Oasis’s 1994 classic Definitely Maybe (via Creation Records) is making a triumphant return, set to break back into the Top 10. Suede’s Dog Man Star (Nude Records), The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night (Parlophone), and Take That’s Everything Changes (RCA) are all experiencing a midweek surge in the wake of the celebration.

In a nostalgic twist, Bronski Beat’s groundbreaking album The Age of Consent (via London Records) could return to the Top 10 for the first time in nearly 40 years, following its 40th anniversary reissue. Originally peaking at No. 4 in 1984, this synth-pop classic is making waves once again.

Finally, Gracie Abrams’ The Secret of Us (via Interscope) has soared back into the Top 10 after the release of its deluxe edition, climbing an impressive 26 spots to land at No. 10 in the midweek update.

One Direction fans are also making their voices heard in the charts as they continue to mourn the passing of Liam Payne. All five of the band’s studio albums are set to re-enter the Top 40, a poignant tribute to their lasting impact on pop music.

Listen to Kylie Minogue’s Tension II below.

Streams and sales of music from One Direction and Liam Payne surged both in the U.S. and globally following Payne’s Oct. 16 death in Buenos Aires, as listeners flocked to both the late 31-year-old’s solo material and the influential boyband in which he starred.
On Oct. 16, official on-demand U.S. streams of One Direction’s five-LP catalog totaled 5.9 million, a vault of 174% over 2.1 million the previous day, according to Luminate. On Oct. 17, they rose further to 22.2 million, up 278% over the day before.

The act – Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – formed in 2010 and went on hiatus in 2016, after Malik left in 2015. Four of its full-lengths hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with its last reaching No. 2.

Globally, One Direction pulled 21.3 million streams on Oct. 16, a 76% gain from 12.1 million on Oct. 15. The group’s catalog soared 298% to 84.9 million streams on Oct. 17.

As for Payne’s solo catalog, it sported 932,000 streams in the U.S. on Oct. 16, a 472% blast from 90,000 on Oct. 15. On Oct. 17, it ballooned another 120% to 3.8 million. Globally, the gain on Oct. 16 was 321% to 1.3 million (from 317,000), followed by, on Oct. 17, a 258% expansion to 4.8 million.

In the four days (Oct. 16-19) following Payne’s death, One Direction’s catalog accumulated 62.9 million streams in the U.S., a 675% gain over 8.2 million Oct. 12-15. Worldwide, the total was 254 million Oct. 16-19, up 442% over 46.9 million Oct. 12-15. Payne’s solo material drew 3.3 million streams in the U.S. Oct. 16-19, up 858% from 354,000, and 13.4 million globally, up 1,038% from 1.2 million.

Leading the way: “Night Changes,” a No. 31 hit for One Direction on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014. The song drew 4.9 million U.S. streams Oct. 16-19 (including 556,000 on Oct. 16 and 1.5 million on Oct. 17), up 416% from 945,000 Oct. 12-15. Globally, the song received 24.5 million streams, up 220% from 7.7 million, during the same periods.

As a result, the track reenters both the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart (No. 95) and the Billboard Global 200 (No. 117), both dated Oct. 26.

In terms of volume of streams, One Direction’s “Story of My Life” follows. The No. 6 Hot 100 hit in 2013 garnered 4.8 million U.S. streams Oct. 16-19 (up 482% from 817,000 Oct. 12-15) and 22 million globally (up 426% from 4.2 million).

Payne’s top solo streamer was his lone Hot 100 top 10: “Strip That Down” (featuring Quavo), which hit No. 10 in 2017. It earned 2 million streams Oct. 16-19, up 593% from 291,000 Oct. 12-15. Globally, its numbers were 6.5 million Oct. 16-19, a 681% surge from 831,000 Oct. 12-15. “Teardrops,” released earlier this year, followed (430,000 U.S. streams, 2.2 million globally).

Song download sales of One Direction’s catalog totaled 6,000 Oct. 16-19, up 1,124% from a negligible amount Oct. 12-15.

Billboard’s LyricFind U.S. and LyricFind Global charts dated Oct. 26 feature multiple One Direction songs, led by “Little Things” on the U.S. ranking and “Story of My Life” on the Global survey. According to LyricFind, whose charts rank the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries and usages, “Little Things,” which reached No. 33 on the Hot 100 in 2013, sported a 1,140% leap in activity in the U.S., while “Story of My Life” received a 464% increase globally. Scott had teased the surprise during his first Sydney show on Oct. 17, telling the crowd, “I’m gonna see my friend tomorrow morning and see if he can get on the stage. I was trying to get him today.”

He then performed “CIRCUS MAXIMUS,” a track featuring The Weeknd, fueling the excitement for night two.

Both artists also dropped cryptic videos from Sydney’s iconic Luna Park before the performance. The park’s enormous, illuminated face at its entrance bears an uncanny resemblance to the imagery from Scott’s ASTROWORLD—a carnival vibe that’s been a major part of his branding. Fans quickly caught on, adding to the buzz that something big was brewing.

True to his word, The Weeknd made his appearance on stage the following night (Oct. 18), performing alongside the rapper for an assortment of their numerous collaborations together, including, “CIRCUS MAXIMUS,” “Pray 4 Love,” “SKELETONS,” and “WAKE UP.”

The pair’s long-standing collaboration and chemistry were evident as they lit up the stage, much to the crowd’s delight. Scott introduced The Weeknd to the audience as “the greatest of all time.”

“This man right here gave me my first arena tour ever,” Scott told the audience of the Weeknd. “If it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be on this stage right now.”

Scott’s Circus Maximus Australian and New Zealand tour continues through Oct. 31, with a final show in Auckland, New Zealand. After wrapping up his tour Down Under, Scott and his Cactus Jack crew are set to take over Complexcon in Las Vegas on Nov. 17.

The rapper’s Circus Maximus tour continues to break records, following the global success of Utopia, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart, earning 496,000 album-equivalent units (including 252,000 in pure album sales) in its first week.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd is in Australia for his After Hours Til Dawn tour, with upcoming shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on Oct. 22 and 23. This marks his first return to Australia since 2017, with fans eagerly awaiting his next album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which has already teased singles like “Dancing in the Flames” and “Timeless.”

“I feel a strong pull to perform in Australia before moving on to the next chapter and want to make sure you all know I hadn’t forgotten about you,” The Weeknd said in a statement announcing his new Australian tour dates back in August. “When I return now, it will be the right time, and I promise it will be such a special experience. I can’t wait to see you all!”

Mike Dean, Chxrry22 and Sydney’s own Anna Lunoe are currently supporting The Weeknd on the four Australia dates.
