Australia’s Groovin the Moo, one of the country’s most popular touring festivals, has canceled this year’s edition due to poor ticket sales.
Just weeks after announcing a bill that featured Alison Wonderland, DMA’S, Jet, Armani White, GZA & the Phunky Nomads, the Jungle Giants and many others, organizers on Wednesday (Feb. 14) announced they would pull the pin.

“We are extremely disappointed to announce that the Groovin the Moo 2024 tour has been forced to cancel,” reads the statement. “Ticket sales have not been sufficient to deliver a regional festival of this kind.”

GTM’s point of difference is in its route around the country, visiting primarily regional centers and bypassing Australia’s big three east coast cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane). This year’s run was scheduled to start April 25 at Adelaide Showground, then visit sites in Canberra, Bendigo, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast and wrap up May 11 in Bunbury, Western Australia.

Ticketmaster-affiliated Moshtix supported the event, along with Spotify and national youth broadcaster triple j.

“All tickets will be refunded automatically,” reads the statement. “Thank you to everybody who has supported the festival. We hope to be able to bring Groovin the Moo back to regional communities in the future. There will be no further comments from Groovin the Moo at this stage.”

Established by Cattleyard Promotions, Groovin the Moo’s first festival was held on April 2005 in Gloucester, New South Wales.

Through the years, a who’s who of edgy rock, pop, hip-hop and electronic music have graced its stages, from Vampire Weekend and Silverchair to Disclosure, The Darkness and many more.

Australia hasn’t dodged the cost-of-living crisis, and selling concert and festival tickets isn’t a cinch.

Last month, economist Stephen Smith, senior partner with Deloitte Access, told reporters that, once population growth, tax and mortgage payments, as well as the annual and monthly inflation figures were taken into account, most Australians were feeling the pinch.

Groovin the Moo is by no means the only festival struggling to shift enough tickets to stay afloat.

Adelaide Hill’s Vintage Vibes cancelled its event just weeks ahead of showtime, citing “economic pressures, while NSW’s ValleyWays in Camden, Sydney was also scrapped. “We understand that costs of living pressures and rising interest rates have severely impacted patrons, particularly in regional areas like Camden,” read a statement from organizers, TEG MJR and the Rubens. “It simply isn’t the right time for this ambitious music festival to take place.”

Grooovin the Moo made international headlines in 2018 when its Canberra leg trialed pill testing, a first in Australia. Later, when the pandemic shut borders, grounded travel and social distancing became the norm, the festival brand scrapped its 2020 and 2021 events.

Acclaimed Latin producer Tainy talks about receiving his first Grammy nomination for his debut album ‘Data,’ what it’s like to produce for Latin superstars, getting the chance to work with Selena Gomez on her first Spanish-language album ‘Revelación,’ bringing his music to life in a live show at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico and more!Tainy:Because of how I grew up and feeling that none of these things that I’ve been able to do were possibilities when I started, you just got to be able to put as much, you know, passion into it. Things will happen.

What’s up, guys? This is Tainy and you’re watching Billboard News.

Tetris Kelly:Hey, what’s up? It’s Tetris with Billboard News, hanging out with the one the only Tainy. What’s up, my man?

Tainy:How’s it going, man? All good here.

Tetris Kelly:Thanks for making your way over from Miami to LA to hang out with us. You’ve had an interesting few months right now.

Tainy:I’m happy to be here. But yeah, how do you say? It’s been really fun, exciting, different couple of months leading up to it so you know, happy over here.

Tetris Kelly:Well, the Grammys were a big deal for you this year, your first-ever American Grammy nomination so that’s significant. Tell me how that felt.

Tainy:I mean, it’s special. I’ve been working for awhile, you know, in music, you always see the Grammys like that’s like the stamp and to be considered, to be alongside so many amazing artists and me putting out my first album, per se, and have it be recognized over here, in certain ways you expect that what you do will be impactful and people will notice it, but it’s not like a done deal. You got to put it out and just see how the world and the universe reacts to it and just to see that nomination over there and for it to be also my first time to be just nominated, have my name around there is just amazing.

Tetris Kelly:I think that’s what is so special about it because you’re so known as such a prolific producer, but then your very first album as an artist gets a Grammy like, that doesn’t happen to everybody, man.Watch the full interview above!

Monét reigns thanks to gains following her wins at the 66th annual Grammy Awards Feb. 4, when she took home the trophies for best new artist, best R&B album and best engineered album, non-classical — the latter two for Jaguar II.

Jaguar II tallied 7,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., up 55%, Feb. 2-8, according to Luminate. The set reached No. 6 on Top R&B Albums and No. 60 on the Billboard 200 in September.

Monét’s breakout solo single “On My Mama” continues to grow, as it jumps from No. 50 to No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 – becoming her first top 40 hit as a recording artist – with 36.8 million radio audience impressions (up 2%), 5.7 million U.S. streams (up 24%), and 2,000 downloads sold (up 124%).

Notably, the Atlanta native now boasts nine top 40 Hot 100 hits as a songwriter, with seven recorded by Ariana Grande, including the No. 1s “Thank U, Next” and “7 Rings” in 2018-19. Plus, her co-write “Ice Cream,” by BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez, reached No. 13 in 2020.

“On My Mama” is also making moves on several radio charts: It holds at its No. 2 high on Adult R&B Airplay, ranks at No. 3 on both R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (after two weeks at No. 1) and Rhythmic Airplay (after hitting No. 2), keeps at No. 6 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (following two weeks at No. 1) and rises 27-24 on Pop Airplay.

Elsewhere on Emerging Artists, new K-pop group TWS: 24/7:WITH:US debuts at No. 2, thanks to its new EP Sparkling Blue. The set begins at No. 6 on World Albums (5,000 units) and No. 16 on Top Album Sales (4,000 albums sold). The EP is the first Billboard chart entry for the group, which is signed to Pledis Entertainment. The act comprises members Dohoon, Hanjin, Jihoon, Kyungmin, Shinyu and Youngjae.

Plus, The Last Dinner Party debuts at No. 6 on Emerging Artists, thanks to the group’s debut full-length Prelude to Ecstacy. Released via Island/Republic Records, it opens at No. 2 on Heatseekers Albums (7,000 units) and No. 31 on Top Album Sales (3,000 sold). The band is also scoring with its breakthrough single “Nothing Matters,” which reached No. 5 on Adult Alternative Airplay in September and it holds at No. 7 on the latest chart. Follow-up single “Sinner” rises 17-13 on the current ranking.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100 and Billboard 200. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Katy Perry is ready to close the door on American Idol, and open another chapter in her music career.
Idol will premiere on ABC this Sunday (Feb. 18), marking the TV talent show’s 22nd overall season. It’ll be Perry’s seventh and final season as a judge.

Perry broke the news when she stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night (Feb. 12). “I love the show so much,” she tells the host, “but I want to go see the world and maybe bring new music.”

The “Firework” singer has been a judge on alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since it was revived by ABC in 2018.

“I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol,” she continues. “I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”

Perry is buzzed about visiting Brazil this September to perform at the Rock In Rio festival. “It’s really exciting. It’s a big deal,” she says of her spot on the bill.

By leaving her regular gig on Idol, “let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan.”

Perry can spread those wings far and wide. Last year, Litmus Music, a catalog rights company backed by private-equity giant Carlyle Group LP, said it acquired the rights in five studio albums released for Capitol Records, including her Grammy-nominated Teenage Dream.

Sources told Billboard that Litmus paid $225 million for Perry’s stake in the master recording royalties and music publishing rights to her five albums released between 2008 and 2020 — One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, PRISM, Witness and Smile.

Perry remains the first woman and only second artist ever (after Michael Jackson) to send five songs from the same album to the summit of the Hot 100, which she did with 2010’s Teenage Dream (“California Gurls,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and “Teenage Dream”).

2020’s Smile peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart, and is Perry’s last full-length studio album.

During her late-night TV stint, Perry also discusses Usher’s Super Bowl performance (“he was awesome”), singing at King Charles’ Coronation, and lodging at Windsor Castle (her mother tagged along. “That’s like the best gift you could ever give your mom”).

Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” (via Republic Records) is sticking around in the U.K., where it’s predicted to notch a seventh consecutive week at No. 1.
Based on midweek sales and streaming data published by the Official Charts Company, “Stick Season” is the clear favorite, accumulating double the tally of its nearest competitor.

That distant rival is Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” (Atlantic) which is primed for a new peak position, lifting 3-2 on the Official Chart Update.

There’s a chance Kahan could snag his first chart double. His Stick Season LP rises to No. 2 on the midweek albums tally — an all-time high — with Declan McKenna and his third album What Happened To The Beach? (via Columbia) the only objects currently blocking his path.

Meanwhile, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 hit “Murder on the Dancefloor” (Polydor) continues to feel the Saltburn bump, dipping 2-3 on the singles chart blast.

Meanwhile, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” (Warner Records) is poised to do something it has never done before; it’s set to gain 8-4 for a new peak position. The 21-year-old Washington native currently leads the Billboard Global 200 chart with his rock ballad.

Ella Henderson and Rudimental’s “Alibi” (Atlantic) scaled a new peak last week, rising 24-16 in its fourth week. The only way is apparently up for “Alibi,” which is poised for a No. 12 spot on the national chart. “Alibi” samples the late Coolio’s hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” (which in turn sampled Stevie Wonder 1976 single “Pastime Paradise”), a 1995 hit which logged two weeks at No. 1 and finished the year as the U.K.’s second biggest-selling single.

Finally, Norwegian producer Kygo and U.S. singer Ava Max are expected to crack the U.K. top 20 for the first time with “Whatever” (Columbia/Kygo), improving 28-19 on the chart blast.

The EDM tune samples “Whenever, Wherever,” is the lead single from Shakira’s debut English-language studio album, Laundry Service, from 2001.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published late Friday, Feb. 16.

Pearl Jam is back, and they’ve returned to heavy.
After throwing a listening party last month for a new album that frontman Eddie Vedder described as their “best work,” fans everywhere can now test that theory.

The Rock Hall-inducted Seattle legends unleash “Dark Matter,” a muscular romp of power chords, in-your-face bass, drum fills and a late solo that could cut a can in half.

“Dark Matter” leads the way for the album of the same name, due out April 19.

That twelfth studio LP is the followup to 2020’s Gigaton, which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and was described by some devotees as their most experimental album yet.

Based on the three-and-a-half minutes of “Dark Matter,” this next phase will rock. Stream it below.

One of the great bands to emerge from the grunge era, Pearl Jam has landed 12 top 10s on the Billboard 200, including five No. 1s. Vedder and Co. were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, joining Journey, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Tupac Shakur, Joan Baez and Nile Rodgers.

Vedder, lead guitarist Mike McCready, and bass player Jeff Ament premiered the album at a listening party in West Hollywood last month, attended by few hundred family, friends, industry professionals and reporters, the Associated Press reported.

“You all get together as a group as we’ve been doing for 30-plus years and you say, ‘Let’s try it again,’” Vedder reportedly told guests from the stage as he introduced the album. “No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”

Producer Andrew Watt reportedly recorded the LP at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California.

“We made this record like a year ago,” Ament told onlookers at the listening party. “We’ve been sitting on it.”

Declan McKenna is the frontrunner for the U.K. albums chart title with What Happened To The Beach? (via Columbia), this third album.
What Happened To The Beach? leads the midweek chart, and, should it hold its position, would give the English singer-songwriter his first leader.

Whatever happens when the weekly chart is published later in the week, McKenna will have a third top 40 to his name. His 2017 debut LP What Do You Think About The Car? peaked at No. 11, and his sophomore effort from 2020, Zeros, came in at No. 2. On that occasion, the Official Charts Company notes, the Rolling Stones’ reissue of Goats Head Soup scraped through by just 800 chart units for an historic No. 1.

The nearest competitor on the current chart blast is Noah Kahan and his breakthrough third album Stick Season (Republic Records), which is roughly 3,000 combined units behind in second place – its peak position.

Stick Season’s ongoing success is fueled by the release of an expanded deluxe edition, featuring new tracks and collaborations with the likes of Sam Fender, Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves and Hozier, and, of course, its hit title track, which has led the Official U.K. Singles Chart for the past six weeks.

If there were any questions about Kanye West’s international popularity after his recent controversies, the U.K. albums chart could provide an answer. West’s collaborative album Vultures 1 (YZY) with Ty Dolla $ign finally dropped Saturday (Feb. 10), following months of delays. Based on midweek sales and streaming data, Vultures 1 is likely to swoop in at No. 3 for what would Ye’s eighth U.K. top 10 album and Ty Dolla $ign’s first.

Former Mercury Prize-winning British rapper Dizzee Rascal is eyeing a top 10 debut (and sixth overall) with Don’t Take It Personal (Big Dirte3), new at No. 6 on the Official Chart Update, while Swedish pop singer and songwriter Zara Larsson’s third album Venus (Black Butter/Sommer House) is on track for a No. 7 start, for what would be her second top 10 effort.

Meanwhile, Usher could score a top 10 touchdown following his halftime performance at the Super Bowl. The newly-married R&B star’s Coming Home (Mega Gamma) is new at No. 9 on the midweek chart and is set to become the U.S. artist’s seventh top 10 album.

Finally, Somerset, England originated prog-rock act Pineapple Thief is set to steal a career high and second top 40 appearance with It Leads To This (Kscope), new at No. 21 on the midweek tally, while Il Divo’s XX (Il Divo Music) could become the classical crossover act’s 12th Official Albums Chart top 40 appearance. It’s new at No. 35 on the chart blast.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Albums Chart is published late Friday, Jan. 16.

Usher completed an epic weekend by marrying his longtime partner Jennifer Goicoechea in Las Vegas, just hours after his performance at Super Bowl LVIII.
The pair got hitched at Vegas Weddings’ Terrace Gazebo, an outdoor wedding chapel that seats 30 guests, with Usher’s mother and former longtime manager Jonetta Patton on hand as the couple’s witness, according to an exclusive published by People.

“We can confirm that Usher and Jennifer Goicoechea took the next step in their relationship and did get married on Sunday night in Las Vegas surrounded by close friends and family,” reads a statement from Usher’s reps, People reports.

“They both look forward to continuing to raise their children together surrounded by love and thank everyone for the well wishes.”

This was no lazy Sunday for Usher.

Earlier, the 45-year-old R&B hitmaker delivered a 15-minute career-spanning set at Allegiant Stadium which saw the Grammy Award-winning singer blasting through his hits, including “Caught Up,” “Burn,” “U Got It Bad,” “Confessions Part II,” “Love In This Club,” with assistance from Alicia Keys, Will.i.am, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R., Ludacris and Lil Jon.

Usher has a long and happy relationship with Vegas. His blockbuster halftime show dropped just a few months after closing one of the most successful and buzzed-about Sin City residencies in history, as his My Way show grossed $95.9 million.

In his Billboard cover story, Usher said his Vegas residencies enabled him to prep for a sizzling Super Bowl set. “I’ve watched every performer, analyzing how they maximized those 12 minutes,” he shared. “But you know, your moment is your moment. And this is a moment I’ve prepared for during the last 30 years.”

Usher and Goicoechea, a music industry professional, have been an item since 2019. They share two kids together — daughter Sovereign Bo Raymond and their son Sire Castrello Raymond (Usher has two sons with ex-wife Tameka Foster: Usher V and Naviyd Ely).
