Idles’ Tangk rolls to the summit of the U.K. chart, for the British rock outfit’s second leader.
The best-seller at the midweek point, Tangk (via Partisan) completes its mission to the top with physical sales accounting for 85% of its opening week result, including a market-leading volume on vinyl, the Official Charts Company reports.
Formed in Bristol, England, Tangk is Idles’ fifth studio album and fifth U.K. top 10 appearance, including a leader with 2020’s Ultra Mono.

It’s been a fine start to the year for Idles, whose five members attended the 2024 Grammy Awards, where the group snagged nominations for best rock album for Crawler and best rock performance for “Crawl!”.

The late, great Bob Marley is surging on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, published Friday, Feb. 23, following the release in U.K. cinemas of the biopic Bob Marley: One Love.
Bob Marley & The Wailers’ evergreen collection Legend (Tuff Gong) rises 18-2. Forty years after its release, the LP has now logged a staggering 1,122 weeks on the Official Albums Chart, including 12 non-consecutive at No. 1. Only one album has racked-up more weeks on the tally — ABBA’s Gold with 1,138 weeks, and counting.
According to the Official Charts Company, this marks the first time Legend has charted inside the top 10 since 2020. Further down the list, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ classic LP from 1977 Exodus vaults 93-36.
Liverpool indie rock act Crawlers earn a first-ever U.K. top 10 with The Mess We Seem To Make (Polydor), their debut LP. It’s new at No. 7. Crawlers earned a top 40 spot with their 2022 EP Loud Without Noise, which reached No. 22.
Finally, new releases from Pet Needs (Intermittent Fast Living at No. 17 via Xtra Mile), Cast (Love Is The Call at No. 22 via Cast Recordings), Yeat (2093 at No. 24 via EMI), Steve Hackett (Circus and the Nightwhale at No. 30 via Inside Out), Blackberry Smoke (Be Right Here at No. 31 via 3 Legged) and Booter Bee (True Stories at No. 34 via Zeromileage) crack the top 40.

Before that, the Houston, TX-raised star’s last solo No. 1s were 2008’s “If I Were a Boy,” “Beautiful Liar” with Shakira (2007), “Déjà vu” with Jay Z (2006) and “Crazy in Love” with Jay Z (2003). As a member of Destiny’s Child, Bey bagged a brace of U.K. No. 1s – “Independent Women” (2000) and “Survivor” (2001).

Finally, Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man’s collaboration “Lovers In a Past Life” (Columbia), debuts at No. 19, for Harris’ 43rd top 40 single, and Rag’n’Bone Man’s sixth. The pair previously joined forces on 2019’s “Giant” — both are giant men — which peaked at No. 2.

Last week, Swift completing a three-night stand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and tonight enters the final straight of her The Eras Tour of Australia, produced by Frontier Touring, with the first of her four consecutive concerts at Sydney’s Accord Stadium. Those dates at the MCG, totaled over 288,000 — the most tickets sold by one artist at the towering venue, according to Universal Music Australia. Too much Taylor Swift isn’t enough for her Swifties, as “Cruel Summer” lifts 4-1 for its first stint at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, her 11th leader. The pop music superstar is crowned on the IFPI’s 2023 Global Recording Artist of the Year Award, an honor that recognizes the top artist across physical sales, downloads and streaming.
The dominance of K-pop is on display, as four acts from the genre crack the IFPI’s top 10: SEVENTEEN (No. 2), Stray Kids (No. 3), TOMORROW X TOGETHER (No. 7) and NewJeans (No. 8). Also, IVE and NCT Dream make their first appearances in the IFPI Global Artist Chart Top 20, at No. 12 and No. 15, respectively.

According to the trade body, the artist award and chart is the first and only ranking to accurately capture the popularity of artists across streaming channels, alongside digital and physical album and singles sales on a global basis, across the calendar year.
Swifties propelled their hero to a “stellar year” during which she ignited charts around with globe with her Midnights LP and the “Taylor’s Version” releases of the Speak Now and 1989 LPs. Also, her record-breaking The Eras Tour, which is currently midway through a seven-stadium run in Australia, helped “lift engagement with her entire catalog on streaming platforms around the world,” reads a statement.
This “phenomenon,” notes the IFPI, was demonstrated by the second life given to “Cruel Summer,” which initially dropped with 2019’s Lover but took flight on charts as she toured the globe.
“We are immensely proud to award the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award to Taylor Swift for the fourth time, as she continues to redefine the limits of global success,” comments Lewis Morrison, director of charts and certifications at IFPI. Swift “is a singular talent and her commitment to her craft and her fans is truly phenomenal.”
The IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award is now celebrating its 11th year, and is presented to the leader of the IFPI’s Global Artist Chart, also released today.

Finally, veteran indie-rock act Cast is on track for a first top 10 spot in 25 years, and fourth overall with Love is the Call (Cast Recordings), new at No. 8 on the chart blast, while former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett could bag his first top 10 album in 44 years with his latest solo effort The Circus and the Nightwhale (Inside Out), new at No. 9 on the chart update. Hackett last cracked the top 10 back in 1980 with Defector.

It’s new at No. 19 on the chart update. Rag’n’Bone Man has a perfect two-from-two No. 1 albums in the U.K., and five top 40 singles. Harris has also notched two chart-leading albums, and a whopping 42 solo U.K. top 40 singles. The pair teamed up on 2019’s “Giant,” which peaked at No. 2.

Three cuts from Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures 1 (YZY) fly into the Official Chart – the maximum allowed from any one album. All crack the top 20, led by “Carnival” (at No. 12), “Burn” (No. 17) and “Back To Me” (No. 18).
At the top of the tally is Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” (Republic Records), which logs a seventh straight week at No. 1. With its parent album climbing to the summit of the Official U.K. Albums Chart, Kahan has his first career U.K. chart double. A new edition of the Stick Season album yields the track “Forever,” which arrives at No. 31 for his fifth U.K. top 40 single.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Saltburn-powered “Murder On The Dancefloor” (Polydor) holds at No. 2 on the Official Singles Chart, less than 600 combined units ahead of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” (Warner Records), the OCC reports. “Beautiful Things” lifts 5-3, a new peak position for the 21-year-old Washington-born singer-songwriter.
Also on the rise is YG Marley’s “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” (YG Marley Music), up 9-5. That’s a career high for Marley, the grandson of the late, great Bob Marley and son of Ms. Lauryn Hill.
English singer and TV presenter Wes Nelson enjoys a top 40 debut with “Abracadabra” (Moor), his collaboration with homegrown R&B favorite Craig David. It’s new at No. 37, following the pair’s live performance on ITV’s Love Island All Stars, for Nelson’s fourth U.K. top 40 single and David’s 26th.
Finally, Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” (Rhino) returns to the top 40 following her rare performance of the ‘80s hit at the 2024 Grammy Awards. “Fast Car” reenters at No. 38, after Chapman and country star Luke Combs performed the song on the Grammys on Feb. 4, marking Chapman’s first live television appearance since 2015. Originally released in 1988, “Fast Car” reached its peak of No. 4 in 2011, and has been introduced to country audiences by Combs’ faithful rendition which appeared on 2023’s Gettin’ Old and became a U.S. hit.

The result, which answers a question on how international audiences would respond to Ye’s recent controversies, is his fifth ARIA Chart leader, following Yeezus (June 2013), Ye (June 2018), Jesus Is King (Nov. 2019) and Donda (March 2021), an album from which a record-setting 19 tracks flooded the singles tally.
The independently-released effort is a career best for Ty Dolla $ign (Universal), beating the No. 37 peak of Beach House 3 in 2017.

There’s a chance Kahan could snag his first chart double. His Stick Season LP rises to No. 2 on the midweek albums tally — an all-time high — with Declan McKenna and his third album What Happened To The Beach? (via Columbia) the only objects currently blocking his path.
Meanwhile, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 hit “Murder on the Dancefloor” (Polydor) continues to feel the Saltburn bump, dipping 2-3 on the singles chart blast.
Meanwhile, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” (Warner Records) is poised to do something it has never done before; it’s set to gain 8-4 for a new peak position. The 21-year-old Washington native currently leads the Billboard Global 200 chart with his rock ballad.
Ella Henderson and Rudimental’s “Alibi” (Atlantic) scaled a new peak last week, rising 24-16 in its fourth week. The only way is apparently up for “Alibi,” which is poised for a No. 12 spot on the national chart. “Alibi” samples the late Coolio’s hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” (which in turn sampled Stevie Wonder 1976 single “Pastime Paradise”), a 1995 hit which logged two weeks at No. 1 and finished the year as the U.K.’s second biggest-selling single.
Finally, Norwegian producer Kygo and U.S. singer Ava Max are expected to crack the U.K. top 20 for the first time with “Whatever” (Columbia/Kygo), improving 28-19 on the chart blast.
The EDM tune samples “Whenever, Wherever,” is the lead single from Shakira’s debut English-language studio album, Laundry Service, from 2001.
