D-Block Europe is heading for a first U.K. No. 1 with Rolling Stone (via D-Block Europe), the British hip-hop collective’s third studio album.
Rolling Stone leads an all-new top three on the midweek chart, and will extend the act’s tally of U.K. top 10 albums, which currently stands at seven – the most of any British rap act in Official Charts history.

The result isn’t a foregone conclusion. The Vaccines are close behind with Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations (Super Easy), on track for a No. 2 debut. Pick-Up should give the English indie-pop outfit a sixth consecutive U.K. top 10 album, and highest chart appearance since 2015’s English Graffiti, which also peaked at No. 2.

The Vaccines bagged a U.K. No. 1 with 2012’s Come of Age.

Meanwhile, 21 Savage is on target for his first solo top 10 appearance in the country of his birth. The British-American rap star is predicted to debut at No. 3 with American Dream (Epic/Slaughter Gang), his third LP. Also, three cuts from it are expected to impact the top 40 of the U.K. singles chart.

Savage, who was born in London, now based in Atlanta, has two top 10 appearances with collaborative projects. His 2022 recording with Drake, Her Loss, reached No. 1, and 2020’s Savage Mode II with Metro Boomin peaked at No. 10.

Further down the chart blast, British singer and songwriter Bill Ryder-Jones should snag his first solo top 40 album with Iechyd Da (Domino Recordings), his fifth LP. It’s new at No. 7 on the Official Chart Update. As a member of The Coral, Ryder-Jones landed a U.K. No. 1 in 2003 with Magic and Medicine.

Finally, Teddy Swims’ continues to paddle up the chart with his debut album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1) (via Atlantic). It’s forecast to lift 24-11 on the survey, as the hit single from it, “Lose Control,” rises to No. 5 on the singles chart blast.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Charts are published Friday, Jan. 19.

All hail Taylor Swift. That’s how Australians reacted to TayTay in 2023, as the pop superstar dominated the year-end charts.
Swift reigned supreme on the 2023 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart, published Friday, Jan. 1, with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) taking out top spot.

The fourth re-recorded album from Swift’s repertoire, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) logged nine weeks at No. 1 on the national chart last year, the longest consecutive streak of any LP.

That’s just the start of Swift’s sweep. The “Shake It Off” singer bagged five of the top 10 albums in the land Down Under, including the runner-up spot with Midnights, ARIA confirms, and 10 of the top 50.

Following a two-week stay at No. 1 in 2023, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) finishes the year at No. 7 overall; Lover is at No. 8; and the original version of 1989 is at No. 9. Also impacting the tally is Reputation (No. 11), Folklore (No. 12), Red (Taylor’s Version) (No. 29), Evermore (No.36) and Fearless (Taylor’s Version) (No. 46).

Swift is accustomed to the high life. Midnights was No. 1 album of 2022, meaning Swift has had the best-selling album in Australia for two-straight years. A third isn’t out of the question. Swift has two more re-recorded albums in the works (though release dates haven’t been announced), and her The Eras Tour will storm into Australia in February for seven stadium shows across Sydney and Melbourne.

Canadian R&B star The Weeknd’s The Highlights completes the annual albums podium with his career retrospective, The Highlights, ahead of Morgan Wallen’s One Thing At A Time and SZA’s SOS, respectively.

The country comeback is in full swing as Luke Combs lands three titles in the top 25: This One’s For You at No. 14, Gettin’ Old at No. 17 and What You See Ain’t Always What You Get at No. 24.

Meanwhile, U.S. artists lock-up the four best-selling singles of 2023, a list led by Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” a single that stood tall atop the ARIA Singles Chart for 12 weeks during the calendar year. Just eight songs have spent more than time at No. 1, ARIA reports. Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” remains the all-time leader, notching 24 weeks at the top in 2019-20.

Slotting in at No. 2 on the 2023 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart is country star Morgan Wallen with “Last Night,” ahead of SZA’s “Kill Bill” and Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” respectively, while English artist PinkPantheress finishes the year at No. 5 with “Boy’s A Liar.”

“Congratulations to all the artists who dominated 2023, but particularly to Taylor, who has completely reset the narrative for what a solo artist can accomplish,” comments ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd. “She is a truly once-in-a-lifetime artist, storyteller, performer and businessperson. Similarly, Miley Cyrus’ incredible achievement on the Singles Chart over the past year – solidified at No. 1 on the 2023 Singles Chart – is cause for celebration… as is women at the top of both the Singles and Albums Charts for 2023.”

The dearth of homegrown artists on both lists, however, is no cause to celebrate. Just four Australian albums cracked the top 100 this year, led by INXS hits collection The Very Best (at No. 58), and just three Australian-made singles impacted the top 100, none of which were released in 2023. The best-placed Australian recording was The Kid Laroi’s 15-times platinum 2021 collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Stay.”

“It’s frustrating, but the data provided by these charts is an unbiased view of how Australian audiences consume music, and we need to use this data to understand we have a very urgent, very complex problem to solve,” adds Herd. “We need to address the damaging lack of data about contemporary music.

Help is on the way. With renewed support for Ausmusic from the federal government and various state governments, the establishment of Music Australia, Sound NSW, and the Centre for Creative Workplaces, notes Herd, the industry is optimistic that “we can change the narrative this time next year.”

Sophie Ellis-Bextor continues its dance up the U.K. chart, thanks in part to the small-screen magic of Saltburn.
The British pop veteran’s “Murder On The Dancefloor” (via Polydor) is proving lethal once again, capturing the zeitgeist through a sync in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, the dark comedy that’s caught fire on Amazon Prime Video.

As previously reported, “Murder On The Dancefloor” breezed into the Official U.K. Singles Chart last Friday, Jan. 5 at No. 8 — for its first top 10 appearance in more than 22 years.

Based on midweek sales and streaming data published by the Official Charts Company, “Dancefloor” is buzzing. The track is predicted to hit No. 3 when the weekly chart is published this Friday, just one position below its all-time peak, set following its release in 2001.

Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” (Republic Records) is predicted to retain top spot, ahead of Jack Harlow’s former leader, “Lovin On Me” (Atlantic), which is expected to hold at No. 2.

The top new release should belong to Liam Gallagher, whose collaborative single with John Squire, “Just Another Rainbow” (Warner Records), is set for a No. 4 debut. As a member of Oasis, Gallagher has collected eight U.K. No. 1 singles, and 26 appearances in the top 40; with Beady Eye and as a solo artist, Gallagher has an additional six top 40 appearances. Squire, as founding guitarist with fellow Manchester rock favorites The Stone Roses, has four top 10 and 15 top 40 appearances on the national singles survey.

Meanwhile, U.S. artist Teddy Swims could crack the U.K. top 10 for the first time with “Lose Control” (Atlantic), which lifts 10-7 on the Official Chart Update.

Sheffield, England-formed rock band Bring Me The Horizon is on track for an eighth top 40 appearance with “Kool-Aid” (RCA), new at No. 12 on the chart blast.

Finally, Sabrina Carpenter’s “feather” (Polydor) is flying on the chart blast, up 33-17. If it holds its course, “feather” will become the American singer and actress’s first top 20 single in the U.K. It’s already her career-best performer, outpacing “Skin” (No. 28) and “Nonsense” (No. 32).

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published this Friday, Jan. 12.

Lewis Capaldi enjoys a heavenly ascent on the U.K. chart where his sophomore album returns to the summit.
The Scottish singer and songwriter bags the first No. 1 of 2024 with Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (EMI), up 72-1, an album that topped the national chart for two consecutive weeks following its release in 2023.

Its new chart wings grew out of a surprise “special edition,” which includes five previously-unreleased cuts, available on new physical and digital formats.

The love extends to Capaldi’s chart-topping debut LP Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which improves 46-28. Divinely Uninspired has logged 10 weeks at No. 1 since its release in 2019.

The 27-year-old artist gave fans an update and some insights into his own battles, by way of a lengthy — and positive — New Year’s Eve message in which he pointed out an improvement in his overall health. “I’m currently taking some time off to focus on my health and wellbeing and it’s been going great,” he explained. He’s still not ready to step back into the spotlight, some six months after he announced a hiatus from touring.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s former leader 1989 (Taylor’s Version) holds at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, published Friday, Jan. 5, and is the best-placed of Swift’s seven LPs inside the top 40. Further down the list is 2022’s Midnights (No. 8), 2020’s folklore (No. 9), 2017’s reputation (No. 12), 2019’s Lover (No. 13), 2020’s evermore (No. 24) and the original 2014 recording of 1989 (No. 40). According to data published last week by the Official Charts Company, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) was the U.K.’s best-selling LP on vinyl in 2023.

Completing the top 3 on the latest tally is The Weeknd’s career retrospective, The Highlights (Republic Records/XO), while ABBA’s jewel, Gold: Greatest Hits (Polydor), lifts 5-4, its highest position since 2008. Gold extends it all-time record to 1,131 weeks on the chart.

Finally, Vermont, U.S.-born singer and songwriter Noah Kahan enjoys a new peak with his third studio album Stick Season (Island), up 8-3. The title track from it leads the Official U.K. Singles Chart for the first time.

More than two decades after Sophie Ellis-Bextor unleashed “Murder On The Dancefloor,” her pop monster returns to the U.K. top 10 – thanks to Saltburn.
The tune rebounds to No. 8 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, published last Friday, Jan. 5, its first appearance in the top tier for more than 22 years. During the seven-day chart cycle, “Murder” collected more than 2.2 million streams for its best-ever streaming week in the U.K., the Official Charts Company confirms.

There’s no mystery to its fresh legs. “Murder On The Dancefloor” (via Polydor) is synced to a prominent scene in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, a dark comedy that has erupted on Amazon Prime Video.

“Murder” is one of Ellis-Bextor’s six solo U.K. top 10 hits, peaking at No. 2 back in 2001. The daughter of a popular TV star Janet Ellis and director and producer Robin Bextor, Ellis-Bextor’s breakthrough came with Spiller’s 2000 club cut “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love),” on which she was the uncredited vocalist. The track went to No. 1 on the Official Chart. Ellis-Bextor has also accumulated five U.K. top 10 albums.

Ellis-Bextor isn’t the only artist to benefit from the Saltburn effect. Mason and Princess Superstar’s 2006 single “Perfect (Exceeder)” (via Armada) reenters the top 40 on the Official Singles Chart for the first time in 17 years, appearing at No. 40. Following its release, the single reached No. 3.

As the Christmas songs are swept from the chart for another year, a raft of singles vault up the tally.

As expected, Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” (Republic Records) completes its first summit climb in its 14th week, vaulting 10-1.

Meanwhile, Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” rebounds 27-2 (up 27-2 via Atlantic); Casso, Raye and D-Block Europe’s “Prada” (Ministry of Sound) bounces 73-3; Tate McRae’s “Greedy” (Ministry of Sound) returns 37-4 and Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” (EMI) is up 96-5.

Taylor Swift commands Australia’s albums chart, and hits double figures at the summit as 1989 (Taylor’s Version) knocks-up week 10 at No. 1.
1989 (Taylor’s Version) (via Universal) is by some distance the most successful of Swift’s re-recorded albums in these parts, ARIA notes. Her previous projects, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version), each spent one week in 2021, while Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) led for two weeks in 2023.

Closing out the top three is the Weeknd’s 2021 career retrospective The Highlights (Universal), up 6-2, equaling its peak position, while Swift’s 2022 studio release Midnights holds at No. 3. Close behind is Morgan Wallen’s former leader One Thing At A Time (Mercury/Universal), gaining 12-4.

Swift, who brings her The Eras Tour to Sydney and Melbourne next month for seven stadium shows, produced by Frontier Touring, collects five of the top 10 album titles on the latest Australian tally.

As Christmas recordings shuffle out of the main ARIA charts, published Friday, Jan. 5, Jack Harlow is one of the beneficiaries. The Louisville artist’s latest hit “Lovin On Me” (Atlantic/Warner) enjoys new life in the new year, up 7-1 for its seventh non-consecutive week leading the ARIA Singles Chart.

There are similar rebounds for Tate McRae’s “Greedy” (RCA/Sony), up 15-2, equaling its peak position, and Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” (RCA/Sony), which ruled the national tally for 10 weeks last year and roars up the latest list, 21-3.

Also, Swift’s “Cruel Summer” heats up 24-4; “Prada” by Casso, Raye and D-Block Europe bounces 25-5 (Ministry of Sound/Sony); South African artist Tyla’s international breakthrough hit “Water” (Sony) flows 28-7, its equal best spot; and Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” (Universal) improves 26-6, for a new high.

U.S. country star Zach Bryan is double trouble on the ARIA Singles Chart, with two songs in the top 10 — “I Remember Everything” featuring Kacey Musgraves (Universal/Warner), up 30-8, and “Something In The Orange” (Warner), up 36-10. In a sign of the strength of country music in the land Down Under, Wallen’s “Last Night” pounces 35-9.

Finally, just one new release appears in the ARIA Top 40 this time around, English producer Fred Again and U.S. rapper Baby Keem’s “leavemealone” (Atlantic/Warner), new at No. 34.

The Jackson 5 Christmas Album jumps 11-9 on the list dated Jan. 6, which covers activity for the tracking week of Dec. 22 -28. In the tracking period, the holiday set earned 27,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate, a 27% increase compared with the previous week.

Released in 1970, The Jackson 5 Christmas Album wrapped a stellar year for The Jackson 5 – comprised of brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon, Michael and Tito. The group captured four Hot 100 No. 1 hits that year – “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There” – and became the first act to have its first four Hot 100 hits all reach the top slot.

The main hit from The Jackson 5 Christmas Album is the group’s rendition of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” which registered 17.9 million official U.S. streams in the week ending Dec. 28, up 21% from the prior week. The sum pushes the track 29-27 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart, tying its 2022 showing for its highest rank. In addition, the streaming haul helps “Santa Claus” jingle 35-30 on the newest Billboard Hot 100 chart for a new peak.

While “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” has reached the Hot 100 each year since the 2020 holiday season, this year sparks a second Jackson holiday hit on the flagship chart. “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” debuts at No. 43, fueled by its 14.1 million official U.S. streams in the tracking week, and opens at No. 39 on Streaming Songs.

With The Jackson 5 Christmas Album, the siblings join forces for a 15th top 10 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (comprising work released as either The Jackson 5 or The Jacksons). It marks their first visit to the tier since Victory posted its final frame in the region on the chart dated Sept. 22, 1984. Here’s a review of the top-10 collection:

In addition to the top-10 triumph, The Jackson 5 Christmas Album rises 6-5 on the Top R&B Albums chart and 57-39 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

Jack Harlow races to his fourth No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart as “Lovin on Me” climbs from the runner-up spot to lead the list dated Jan. 6. The single’s advance comes following a 4% increase in plays that made it the most-played song on U.S. monitored rhythmic radio stations in the week ending Dec. 28, according to Luminate.

As “Lovin on Me” ascends, it ousts Doja Cat’s “Agora Hills” from the summit after the latter’s two-week reign.

With the new champ, Harlow nabs his fourth career champ on Rhythmic Airplay. He first led with “What’s Poppin,” featuring DaBaby, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne, which ruled for one week in 2020, and returned to the top slot with the Lil Nas X-collaboration “Industry Baby” (four weeks, 2021) and his own “First Class” (nine weeks, 2022).

Despite “Lovin on Me” being released on Nov. 10, the single has exploded into a multi-format radio smash by just its seventh chart week. In addition to the Rhythmic Airplay crown, Harlow’s hit repeats at No. 1 on the Rap Airplay chart for a second frame and picks up the list’s Greatest Gainer prize as it added 8% in audience in the latest tracking week. The track likewise posts a second week at No. 6 on the Pop Airplay list, though it climbed 1% in plays in the tracking week. Proving its rapid rise at the radio format, “Lovin on Me” had taken the Pop Airplay’s Greatest Gainer honor for the previous four consecutive weeks.

And call it déjà vu – “Lovin on Me” has a third repeat rank this week, also staying at No. 8 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for a second frame. The track registered an 8% boost in weekly plays in the latest tracking window, winning the list’s Greatest Gainer badge for a fifth straight week. Thanks to the strong radio performance across the rhythmic, pop and R&B/hip-hop formats, “Lovin on Me” sits at No. 5 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart, having added 3% more audience to reach 51.8 million in the week ending Dec. 28.

Radio strength has helped “Lovin on Me” weather the annual storm of holiday titles on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune scored one week at No. 1 before two Christmas titles – Brenda Lee’s “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” – shared the throne for the last five chart weeks. On the most recent published chart, “Lovin on Me” is the lone non-holiday track in the top 10, at No. 9. Given the expected receding of holiday titles on next week’s list, the song is the natural front-runner to lead the Hot 100 again, and as it closes in on even more radio crowns, “Lovin on Me” should be a challenger to top the flagship chart for several weeks to come.

Last week, it was festive season on the U.K. singles chart. Now we’re entering Stick Season. Noah Kahan is on track to snag the first U.K. No. 1 single of 2024 – and the first of his career – with “Stick Season” (via Republic Records), which leads the midweek chart.
