The 2023 Golden Globes took place on Tuesday (Jan. 10), and featured a host of musicians and actors stepping out to honor the past year’s achievements in film and television. Taking place at Los Angeles’ The Beverly Hilton, the industry’s biggest and brightest stars walked the red carpet and attended the show — and Billboard‘s star-studded afterparty — in style.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were among the guests to grace the Globes, appearing in matching black ensembles. The “Work” singer — whose song “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was nominated in the best original song in a motion picture — wore a fitted black column gown with velvet panels and larger sleeves, while the “Fashion Killa” rapper was in a classic black-and-white suit with satin lapels.
Selena Gomez was also among the musicians to grace the Globes. The Rare beauty founder stepped out on the red carpet with her 9-year-old sister Gracie Elliott Teefey in tow. The 30-year-old, who was nominated for best actress in a TV series comedy or musical nomination for her portrayal of Mabel Mora in the hit Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building.
The fun didn’t stop there. Billboard‘s Golden Globes afterparty saw stars mingling with each other. Wednesday‘s Jenna Ortega and Percy Hynes White looked stunning in black ensembles; Abbot Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson posed for photos alongside Pose‘s Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Jennifer Coolidge lit up the room with Heidi Klum, who brought husband Tom Kaulitz (of Tokio Hotel) as her date.

Judy Collins, Shelly Peiken and Noelle Scaggs will be honored at the upcoming 2023 She Rocks Awards, presented by the Women’s International Music Network (the WiMN). Recognizing women who stand out as innovators and role models in the music industry, the 11th annual live awards event will take place on Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ranch in Anaheim, Calif. during the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show.
“I am always astounded by the passionate and meaningful accomplishments of the ground-breaking women in music that we honor,” Laura B. Whitmore, founder of the WiMN and co-producer of the She Rocks Awards, said in a statement. “This year we’ll turn it up to 11 for our 11th anniversary! I am excited to shine a spotlight on these fantastic role models…with more to come!”

Here’s a closer look at this year’s honorees:
She’s a mastermind! Taylor Swift may not have been in the room at the 2023 Golden Globes held at the Beverly Hilton on Tuesday (Jan. 10), but her presence was still felt in the awards show’s choice of music.
Ryan Murphy was the evening’s recipient of the prestigious Carol Burnett Award, which the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gives to honor “outstanding and lasting contributions to television on or off the screen,” and as he walked to the podium to accept the trophy, Swift’s Midnights closer “Mastermind” could be heard playing over the cheers of Hollywood’s best-dressed glitterati.
“Once upon a time the planets and the fates/ And all the stars aligned/ You and I ended up in the same room/ At the same time/ And the touch of a hand lit the fuse,” the superstar’s voice can be heard before the American Horror Story and Pose creator began his acceptance speech.
After accepting the award from frequent collaborator Billy Porter, Murphy offered a nearly 10-minute speech shouting out LGBTQ+ trailblazers he’s worked with over the years, including Porter, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Niecy Nash, Matt Bomer and Jeremy Pope.
“When I was a young person at home in the ’70s, watching The Carol Burnett Show, I never, ever saw a person like me getting an award or even being a character on a TV show,” he said. “It’s hard being an LGBTQ kid in America. In fact, all over the world then and now. And I have one word for you: Florida. You are often told you will never become anything, you have to hide your light to survive. But for those kids watching tonight, I offer up MJ and Billy and Niecy and Matt and Jeremy as examples of possibility.”
Swift was nominated in the best original song, motion picture category for her track “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing alongside fellow nominees Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Tems. However, all the superstars were ultimately beat out by Chandrabose and M.M. Keeravaani’s “Naatu Naatu” from RRR.

People are talking about how Austin Butler is talking. At the Golden Globes Tuesday (Jan. 10), however, the 31-year-old actor responded to comments regarding how his voice has changed since playing The King in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, specifically addressing those who have been poking fun at him in recent months for supposedly keeping up the deep Southern drawl he learned for the movie long after it wrapped.
“I don’t think I sound like him still,” he said in the awards show’s press room after winning best actor, drama motion picture for his performance in Elvis. “But I guess I must because I hear it a lot. I often liken it to when somebody lives in another country for a long time.”
“I had three years where that was my only focus in life, so I’m sure there’s just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked to him,” he added.
It’s not the first time Butler has addressed comments on his post-Elvis speech patterns. In December, he joked about his voice change during his opening monologue while hosting Saturday Night Live, and in June, he spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the matter. “At this point, I keep asking people, ‘Is this my voice?’ Because this feels like my real … it’s one of those things where certain things trigger it, and other times as well it’s, I don’t know,” he said.
One night prior to the Globes, the Carrie Diaries star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and shed some light on the intensive process he underwent to prepare for his portrayal of the late rock n’ roll legend, which included reconstructing the way he spoke. He even spent hours learning to chuckle exactly like Elvis did by listening to audio compilations of the “Hound Dog” singer’s laughter.
“I’d walk down the beach for hours with a headphone in, laughing as Elvis,” he recalled. “So it looked like [I was] this man, just absolutely out of his mind.”

Selena Gomez walked the Golden Globes red carpet Tuesday (Jan. 10) with a very special date on her arm — her 9-year-old sister, Gracie Elliott Teefey. The little girl is her youngest sibling, whom she shares through mother Mandy Teefey and stepfather Brian Teefey.
Gomez appeared on the carpet in a stunning black Valentino Haute Couture gown with purple puff sleeves. The singer-actress embraced and hugged Gracie, who wore a sparkling pale yellow gown carried an equally glittering purse, as they made their way into The Beverly Hilton, where the ceremony was held.
The sisters’ night at the Globes is just the latest in several outings they’ve had in recent weeks. The Only Murders in the Building actress shared photos of her celebrating Nicola Peltz Beckham’s birthday with a dinner on Jan. 8, in which Teefey was in attendance. And on Jan. 6, Gomez shared on Instagram that the sister duo had a girls night — just the two of them — when they wore matching all-black outfits.
The Rare Beauty founder nabbed her very first Golden Globe best actress in a TV series comedy or musical nomination for her portrayal of Mabel Mora in the hit Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short. She previously shared a throwback video of an old interview to celebrate, in which she claimed that she saw herself as “more of a Golden Globe or Oscar girl” than having her heart set on winning a Grammy.

Only Rihanna and A$AP Rocky could skip the Golden Globes red carpet, arrive partway through the ceremony and still be the most talked-about couple at the event.
All eyes were on the couple Tuesday (Jan. 10) as they arrived fashionably late to the awards show, where Ri’s Wakanda Forever song “Lift Me Up” was nominated for best original song, motion picture. Though she lost out to Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani and Rahul Sipligunj’s “Naatu Naatu” from the action film RRR, she and Rocky unofficially won the title of best dressed couple, the two showing up in complementary all-black evening attire.
The Fenty Beauty founder shined bright like a diamond in Cartier jewelry and a custom Schiaparelli gown and cape combo designed by Daniel Roseberry. Rocky — with whom Ri welcomed a baby boy in May — kept it simple in a sleek tuxedo. Their combined elegance was enough to turn heads as the power couple was guided to their seats as White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge was presenting an award, a moment captured by a video posted to social media.
It wasn’t just Golden Globe attendees who were hyperaware of Rihanna’s presence, though. A handful of stars called out the nine-time Grammy winner from onstage, with Niecy Nash pausing her presentation of the best actress in a musical or comedy TV series award to say, “Rihanna, I love you, and I dressed up as you for Halloween.”
Later, the show’s host Jerrod Carmichael spotted Ri in the audience and took a moment to address her. “Only because I see Rihanna is here, I’m going to say something very controversial I will actually get in trouble for,” he began. “You take all the time you want on that album, girl. Don’t let these fools on the internet pressure you into nothing.”
The soon-to-be Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show headliner took all the shout-outs in stride, smiling graciously with Rocky seated at her side.

Zendaya won her third major award for her portrayal of drug-addicted teen Rue in the gritty drama Euphoria at Tuesday night’s (Jan. 10) 2023 Golden Globe Awards. But, after previously taking home two primetime Emmys for the role, the 26-year-old star was not in the house in Los Angeles to accept her best performance by an actress in a drama television series at last night’s rebooted event, but she did send her fans a heartfelt acceptance note.
“I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to be there tonight, but I just wanted to say thank you to @goldenglobes for this incredible honor. To my fellow nominees, it is a privilege to be named beside you, I admire you all deeply,” she wrote in an Instagram post alongside a moody black and white pic in which she appeared to be dancing in her room.
She thanked her whole Euphoria family, saying without them “none of this is possible. Lastly, thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has allowed Rue into theirs. I think everyone knows how much she means to me, but the fact that she can mean something to someone else is a gift. I’m honestly at a loss for words as I type this, all I can say is thank you thank you thank you.”
Z’s first Golden Globe for the show she stars in and executive produces came in a very tight race in which she was up against a number of veteran stars, including Laura Linney (Ozark), Hilary Swank (Alaska Daily) and Imelda Staunton (The Crown); Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon) was also nominated in that category.

Grammy-winning artists Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott and Lil Wayne, and music executive Sylvia Rhone, will be honored during the second annual Recording Academy Honors Presented by The Black Music Collective event at the Hollywood Palladium on Thursday, Feb. 2. The event will take place three days before the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
All four honorees will receive the Recording Academy Global Impact Award for their personal and professional achievements in the music industry.
“I am so thrilled to honor and celebrate these four giants in the music industry,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. said in a statement. “Last year’s inaugural event was such a highlight during Grammy Week and now with Dre, Missy, Wayne and Sylvia there to pay tribute to this year, it’s definitely going to be another night to remember. I continue to be proud of the work of our Black Music Collective as it’s a vital part of what we do here at the Academy.”
Rico Love, vice chair of the Recording Academy’s board of trustees, will return to chair the event. Adam Blackstone will also return as musical director. Blackstone won his first Primetime Emmy last year — outstanding music direction for The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent. Blackstone is nominated for a Grammy this year for best traditional R&B performance for his recording of the jazz standard “‘Round Midnight” featuring Jazmine Sullivan.
MVD Inc will produce the event for the second year.
Here’s a closer look at this year’s four honorees:
Jack Harlow is the only artist with two nominations for song of the year at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Harlow is nominated for his solo smash “First Class” and for “Industry Baby,” his smash collab with Lil Nas X.
Lizzo, who won the 2020 iHeart Award for song of the year for “Truth Hurts,” is nominated in that category again this year for “About Damn Time.” Taylor Swift, who won the 2015 iHeart in that category for “Shake It Off,” is also nominated for “Anti-Hero.” The other nominees in the category are Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Latto’s “Big Energy,” Imagine Dragons’ “Enemy,” Justin Bieber’s “Ghost,” Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” and Doja Cat’s “Woman.”
The iHearts are joining the growing trend of doing away with gendered categories. Instead of presenting female and male artist of the year, as they have since they began in 2014, this year the iHearts will present one gender-neutral top category – artist of the year. There are five female and five male nominees: Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Drake, Dua Lipa, Styles, Harlow, Bieber, Lizzo, Swift and The Weeknd.
Silk Sonic, who won best duo/group of the year last year, are back to defend their title. The other nominees are AJR, Black Eyed Peas, Blackpink, Glass Animals, Imagine Dragon, Måneskin, OneRepublic, Parmalee and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards will air live from Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, March 27 (8-10 p.m. ET live / PT tape-delayed) on Fox. The event, now in its 10th year, also will be heard on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio app.
“This is the one awards show that shares the hard-earned journeys to the top of the biggest artists and songs of the year with fans,” John Sykes, president of entertainment enterprises for iHeartMedia, said in a statement. “It’s not a competition, rather a celebration of “best in class” and viewers across America can watch it live on FOX.”
“It’s been a great year for music with so many inspiring hits, we can’t wait to celebrate these artists and songs at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards,” Tom Poleman, president and chief programming officer for iHeartMedia said in a statement. “Our annual awards show is one of the best in the industry at celebrating the power of music. This year’s show will once again entertain fans with incredible performances and special collaborations, it will be the year’s must-see event.”
The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards will again give iHeartRadio listeners the opportunity to decide winners in several categories. Fan voting will determine this year’s best lyrics, best music video, best fan army, the social star award, favorite tour photographer, tiktok bop of the year, favorite documentary, favorite tour style, favorite residency and favorite use of a sample.
Social voting begins Wednesday (Jan. 11) and will close March 20 at 11:59 p.m. PT for all categories. Fans can vote on Twitter using the appropriate category and nominee hashtags or by visiting iHeartRadio.com/awards.
Producer of the year and songwriter of the year nominees will be announced at a later date. Additional categories include label of the year and individual winners for album of the year in music’s biggest genres, including pop, country, alternative, rock, dance, hip-hop, R&B, Latin and regional Mexican formats.

Want to be among the first to know just how many Brit Awards nominations Harry Styles receives for his hit album Harry’s House and his global smash “As It Was”? You can tune into a livestream on Thursday (Jan. 12) at 11 a.m. ET during which the nominations will be announced.
The 30-minute livestream, titled “Bring on The Brits With Mastercard: The 2023 Nominations,” will stream on the official Brits channels on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. In the livestream, viewers will see reactions from artists as they learn the happy news and get the latest updates on the 2023 Brit Awards. The show is set for Saturday, Feb. 11, at the O2 arena in London, with comedian Mo Gilligan hosting for the second year in a row.
Broadcaster Vick Hope will host the livestream. He will be joined by radio broadcaster Jack Saunders as well as various celebrities who will reveal the nominations across their own social media channels. They include Olympian Tom Daley, YouTube’s Yung Filly, World Cup winner Jill Scott and Gogglebox’s Joe and George Baggs.
Styles has won two Brit Awards as a solo artist – British single of the year two years ago for “Watermelon Sugar” and British video of the year five years ago for “Sign of the Times.” At the upcoming Grammy Awards, Styles is nominated for six awards – including album, record and song of the year.
Adele is nominated for seven Grammys – including album, record and song of the year – but don’t look for her in the marquee categories at the Brits. She won last year for British album of the year, British artist of the year and best British single. (The Brits and the Grammys have different eligibility periods.)
Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres, which is also Grammy-nominated for album of the year, will likewise not be a factor in the Brit nods. It was released in October 2021, a month before Adele’s album. Coldplay was nominated for Brits last year for best British group and best rock/alternative artist.
But British indie rock band Wet Leg, which is Grammy-nominated for best new artist, may well get some attention from the Brits. Their eponymous debut album was released in April 2022. The band is set to open for Styles when he plays four nights at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles later this month.
The Brits announced their first winner last month. R&B girl group FLO is the winner of the 2023 Rising Star award.
Saunders will open this year’s TikTok voting for the four genre awards later this month. Those awards, introduced last year, are best pop/R&B act, best dance act, best rock/alternative act and best hip-hop/grime/rap act.
This will mark the first time the Brit Awards, which will broadcast live on ITV1 and ITVX, will be held on a Saturday. This year marks the Brits’ 30th year years with ITV as its broadcast partner; its 25th year with Mastercard as its headline sponsor; and its 13th year at The O2 arena.
A year ago, the Brits’ nominations special was titled The Brits Are Coming. Hosted by Maya Jama and Clara Amfo, the show aired on Dec. 18, 2021.
