Retro Jordan sneakers may be struggling to move out on the secondary market these days, but actual game-worn Jordan sneakers are still fetching some pretty big bucks on the auction block.
Nice Kicks is reporting that a collection of game-worn Air Jordan sneakers that his Airness wore during his historic championship run the the 1990s fetched quite a pretty penny. The “Dynasty Collection,” which featured six different pairs of Air Jordan sneakers (VI, VII, VIII, XI, XII and XIV) that Michael Jordan wore when he clinched his six NBA Championships sold for a staggering $8 million in a global auction that was held by Sotheby’s. Keep in mind, these were single sneakers; they weren’t even paired up, but they were game-worn and autographed by the greatest of all time.
Nice Kicks reports:
This remarkable accomplishment positions the Dynasty Collection as the second most valuable Michael Jordan memorabilia ever auctioned, trailing only behind Jordan’s iconic 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey from the renowned ‘Last Dance’ season. The jersey fetched an astonishing $10.1 million at a Sotheby’s auction in September 2022, still holding the world record for any game-worn sports memorabilia. Additionally, Sotheby’s retains the record for the highest-selling pair of sneakers, with Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Game 2 Air Jordan 13s from ‘The Last Dance’ season, which netted $2.2 million in April 2023.
“Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT. The Dynasty Collection undeniably ranks among the most significant compilations of sports memorabilia in history. Serving as both a reminder of Michael Jordan’s lasting impact on the world and a tangible expression of his recognized legendary status, its significance is further validated by this monumental result.”
Naturally, the buyer’s identity is being withheld as Sotheby’s doesn’t want to put a target on anyone at this point. But whoever dumped $8 million to own a piece of sports history must have pockets as deep as Jay-Z because dayumn!
Check out pics of the “Dynasty Collection” below, and let us know if you’d drop $8 million on these if you had it like that in the comments section.

Over the past few years the Air Jordan and A Ma Maniére collaborations has proven to be one of thee most popular sneaker releases in the game thanks to superb colorways and overall attention to detail.
Whether it was the Air Jordan 1 or the Air Jordan 3, sneakerheads had to add those A Ma Maniére collaborations to their collection and weekly rotation. Now with the release of their collaboration of the Air Jordan 12 amongst us, Hypebeast sat down with A Ma Maniére founder, James Whitner to talk about what his collaboration with Jordan Brand has meant to his team and the positive Black messages they bring with each iteration of a Jordan classic and of course what to expect with the AMM Air Jordan 12’s.

Following A Ma Maniére’s Air Jordan 3, Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 2 and Air Jordan 4 collaborations, these Air Jordan 12s are equipped with quilted liners and supple suede dyed in a signature burgundy hue. Accompanying the shoes is an apparel assemblage that includes a jacquard down-filled puffer, a nylon shirt and pant set, a suede knit tracksuit set and monogram jacquard hoodies and tees. To further express its feminist side, A Ma Maniére gave ladies first access to its in-store and online raffles.
While some of the Air Jordan x A Ma Maniére collaborations are made exclusively for women and even have messages just for them, men naturally have to have them and will go out and purchase the sizes that fit them as when it comes to sneakers, styles and colorways have no genders so long as they can fit in them. As to why Whitner goes this route for certain releases, there’s a pretty dope and straightforward thought process to that practice.
Black women move and shape the world. Period, point blank. Look at everything around you from how the world expresses itself, dresses and seeks inspiration — it’s all powered by the essence and creativity of Black women. Do they ever get credit for it? Hell no! They put the whole world on to what’s important, to what’s next, are the pulse of every community, and still have to deal with the compound issues of being a Black person in our day and age and the issues you face with that. So as we started this chapter, the focus had to be on “her,” because she is too important to be ignored — and if we have the platform then it’s our responsibility to always use it to speak to what we see and experience. And once again, this is less about me and more about the world, how we all experience it. Our team reflects this. The women of our team and business show up daily to inform the direction we go in. That’s why this moment is important.
Props, Mr. Whitner.
As for why the Air Jordan 12 was chosen to be the latest silhouette to get the A Ma Maniére treatment, James Whitner explained that, “The Air Jordan 12 is an iconic silhouette that already sits at the pinnacle of luxury. In all fairness, the essence of the work is already there and in place, so our approach was to zero in on the details. That resulted in the burgundy hairy suede adding lush, regal details and staying consistent with the ideals of how the Black woman is royalty. We wanted her to be grounded in that as she’s recognized, acknowledged and celebrated. You then add the quilted liner to go with the highest level of black suede and white leather for the upper, and the final look was exceptional. The perspective was “this should be the shoe that “she” puts men on to and gets to own and excite the world with. Too often, you see the process go into how to make it feminine — we don’t subscribe to that thinking. For us it was always about what we could execute that she’d hold up as her own.”
When breaking it down the way he did, we have to get our hands on a pair and rock them with pride out on the streets, but of course, ladies first.
Now that the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 12 is officially set to hit the streets, sneakerheads await the next collaboration from this dynamic duo and though nothing has been made official as of yet, rumors have it that the Air Jordan 5 is the next sneaker to get remixed by James Whitner and his talented team. We can’t wait.
The “Black/Burgundy” colorway will be officially released on February 24 with the apparel pieces while the “White/Burgundy” pair will drop on March 2 exclusively through A Ma Maniére.

One would think that a movie centering around the partnership between Nike and a then NBA rookie known as Michael Jordan would be a straight-to-streaming affair, but apparently Amazon believes in the film so much that it’s actually going to be getting a theatrical release.
According to Deadline, Air, the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon film about how Nike landed Michael Jordan in the early ’80s, will be foregoing the straight to Prime premier and will instead be released in movie theaters globally. Warner Bros. will be handling the international distribution of the film. Originally set to debut on Amazon Prime, Air will be seeing a theatrical release weeks before the film ultimately hits Amazon Prime for sneaker aficionado subscribers to indulge in.

While Air isn’t exactly a film that people have been begging to be made or even asked for, it is one that’s peaked the interest of sneaker heads around the globe since it was announced last year. And Affleck and company have recruited some Hollywood heavyweights to partake in the production.
Air reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division, which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand. The story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time.
Damon plays maverick Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro and Affleck plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight with Jason Bateman as Rob Strasser, Chris Messina as David Falk, Matthew Maher as Peter Moore, Marlon Wayans as George Raveling, Chris Tucker as Howard White, Viola Davis as Deloris Jordan, Gustaf Skarsgård as Horst Dassler and Julius Tennon as James Jordan – among others. While Damon and Affleck starred in such movies together such as Good Will Hunting and Dogma, Air reps the first time that Affleck has directed his longtime friend.
Talk about an all-star cast. Keep in mind, Michael Jordan wasn’t only reluctant to sign with Nike back in 1984, but he actually wanted to sign a sneaker deal with adidas or Converse who were more popular than Nike at the time. What a time to be alive. It took all kinds of pushing and convincing to get Michael Jordan to even meet with Nike executives about a potential deal. Luckily, it happened. And we have all kinds of Air Jordans in our closets as a result. Now we get to see how history almost wasn’t made.
Ben Affleck for one is excited to show the world what he and Matt Damon have been cooking up.
“Matt and I are very excited for audiences to see Air and proud that it’s the first release from Artists Equity. The movie was an extraordinary experience where we had the honor of working with some of the best cast and crew in the business, all of whom brought passion, persistence, and creativity to a collective effort at recreating a remarkable and aspirational story.”
“I appreciate and value Jen Salke’s faith in our ability to execute on and deliver a movie we are proud of, as well as her and Sue Kroll’s incredible ongoing support of the film. Amazon Studios, Skydance, and Mandalay were all critical to getting this done, and the film couldn’t have been made without them. We value the steps it took on each of their parts to make it happen and want to thank them. This was the best creative and personal experience of our lives and we look forward to many more like it.”
You have to wonder if they’re going to be getting their own friends and family Air Jordan exclusives when it’s all said and done. Watch them be in “Bawsten” colors or something.
Air is set to hit theaters April 5, 2023. Will you be heading to theaters to see it or will you be waiting for it to hit Amazon Prime instead? Let us know in the comments section below.
