Banda Los Recoditos add an eighth No. 1 to their ledger as “Vas A Querer Volver” jumps 2-1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated Jan. 6.

“Vas a Querer Volver,” which entered the top 10 in its eighth chart week, at No. 8, ascends from the runner-up slot with a 3% increase in audience impressions, to 6.9 million, earned in the U.S. during the Dec. 22-28 tracking week, according to Luminate. The song ejects Grupo Frontera and Junior H’s “En Altavoz” from the lead and sends it to No. 9 with a 33% decrease, to 4.9 million impressions.
As “Volver” takes the lead on Regional Mexican Airplay, UMLE claims the chart’s top four titles – a feat the company has achieved many times over the past decade. On the chart dated Jan. 6, UMLE has “Volver” at No. 1 (released via El Recodo/Fonovisa/UMLE), Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda’s “Buscándole a La Suerte” at No. 2 (released via Fonovisa/UMLE), La Fiera de Ojinaga’s “La Neta Que No” at No. 3 and La Maquinaria Norteña’s “Perro Amor” at No. 4, both via Azteca/Fonovisa/UMLE.
UMLE last claimed the top four in 2022, when it held the Nos. 1-4 slots for four straight weeks on the April 2-23-dated lists. UMLE is the only label to have monopolized the top four on the chart in the last 10 years.
With “Volver” Los Recoditos score their eighth champ, dating back to “Ando Bien Pedo,” their longest-charting ruler, with 12 weeks atop in 2010. Here’s a review of the groups’ collections of No. 1s on the radio chart:

“We will be closer this 2024, with dates in Mexico, U.S. and Central America, performing new music,” Gónzalez and JeyPi add. “Thanks to our listeners, platforms, media, and our loyal followers.”

Juanes and Carlos Vives unlock a new chart achievement as “Las Mujeres” tops Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart (dated Dec. 30).
The team-up pushes from No. 3 to No. 1 after a 12% jump in audience impressions, to 3.63 million, earned in the U.S. during the Dec. 15-21 tracking week, according to Luminate. The single takes the lead in its 17th week, after eight solid weeks in the top 10.
“Las Mujeres” is the third two co-billed Colombian partnership to land at the penthouse on Latin Pop Airplay in 2023. Karol G and Shakira did it first with the 14-week leader “TQG,” which started its chart domination in April. Shakira repeated the feat with her Manuel Turizo collab, “Copa Vacía.” The latter cedes the crown after nine weeks in charge and drops to No. 2 with 3.6 million audience impressions.

In total, Juanes nabs his 12th champ, breaking the Latin Pop Airplay No. 1 barrier with “A Dios Le Pido,” in 2002. With a new ruler on his account, let’s review Juanes’ collection of No. 1s:

“Así Es La Vida” leads Tropical Airplay with a 14% improvement in audience impressions, to 4.8 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 30, according to Luminate.
The song was released Sept. 28 via Sony Music Latin and lands at No. 1 on Tropical Airplay in its ninth week. It unseats Chayanne’s “Bailando Bachata” from the penthouse after 15 weeks in charge, the third-most this decade and the longest-leading song in 2023.
“Así Es La Vida” propels Iglesias back to the top spot after “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, hit No. 1 in 2014. With over nine years to take over Tropical Airplay, it becomes the third-longest gap between No. 1s. Chayanne holds the second-longest span with a 15-year break between “Amor Inmortal” (2008) and “Bailando Bachata” (August 5-dated list). Jennifer Lopez continues to lead with the longest-break between champs — both Marc Anthony collaborations — with a 17-year wait between “No Me Ames” (1999) and “Olvídame y Pega La Vuelta” (2016).
Thanks to the new champ, Iglesias collects his eighth No. 1 on Tropical Airplay. Here’s his collection:

For Becerra, the new achievement gives her a second No. 1 on the tropical ranking. The Argentinian earned her No. 1 in her first chart visit through another bachata, “Te Espero,” with Prince Royce, in May 2022.
Beyond its Tropical Airplay coronation, “Vida” makes progress on the overall Latin Airplay tally, pushing 24-17.

“It’s the first time that we are at the top of a regional Mexican list, which is one of the most important formats today,” Fher Olvera, lead singer of Maná, tells Billboard. “We feel very proud of the achievement and knowing that our music can transcend times and formats.”
“Talking about Maná is going back to my childhood when I discovered their music,” Muñoz tells Billboard. “There are no words to describe the feeling of not only collaborating as an artist, as a fan of the band, but above all, as a friend. The band as an act has no comparison for all we know they have achieved, but as human beings they are on another level.”

After three weeks in the top 20, “Amor Clandestino” rallies 19-1 with a 158% gain in audience impressions, to 7 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 2, according to Luminate. The 18-rank climb marks the biggest jump to No. 1 in over a decade, since Los Huracanes del Norte’s “Volé Muy Alto” flew 20 positions to the top in November 2007.
During the Oct. 27-Nov. 2 tracking week, “Amor Clandestino’s” biggest supports are comprised of Univision stations KSCA-FM (Los Angeles), KLNO-FM (Dallas), KSOL-FM (San Francisco) and WOJO-FM (Chicago).
“The legendary band Maná joined forces with superstar singer-songwriter Eden Muñoz to bring a unique and updated touch to the classic hit ‘Amor Clandestino’,” Ismar Santa Cruz, Senior VP, Radio Content at Univision, tells Billboard. “This sparked a renewed love affair with the song. As we’re seeing more songs resonate simultaneously across formats, the combination of these artists on such a familiar hit allowed it to impact coast to coast across all our Regional Mexican stations, including our flagship shows El Bueno La Mala y El Feo and El FreeGuey, as well as all our Amor stations, including KLove 107.5 in L.A. and Amor 107.5 in Miami.”
“Amor Clandestino” earns Maná its first No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay upon its eighth appearance. Its previous single, “Te Lloré Un Río” with Christian Nodal, took the Mexicans to No. 3 in June 2022. Maná came up just short on its prior visit, as “Ojalá Pudiera Borrarte” achieved a No. 2 peak in October 2007.
“We currently have a duet project in which we have re-recorded our greatest hits with artists such as Christian Nodal, Alejandro Fernández and Sebastián Yatra, among others,” Olvera adds. “What we want is to reach as many audiences as possible with our music. We felt that this song lent itself to a new, very Mexican arrangement, and with Edén it was perfect.”
The original pop version of “Clandestino” dominated Latin Pop Airplay for two weeks in 2011. The song belongs to the Drama y Luz album, Mana’s longest leading set on Latin Pop Albums, with 12 weeks in charge.
For Muñoz, the new song follows two other champs: three-week champ “Chale!” and his featured role in Banda MS’ “Hay Que Hacer Dinero,” for two weeks atop, both in 2022.
Elsewhere, “Clandestino” flies 30-6 on the overall Latin Airplay, the biggest single-week jump to the top 10 since J Balvin and Ed Sheeran’s “Forever My Love” soared 35 rankings in April 2022.
“Eden is genius,” Olvera continues. “A very good friend of the band. He is an all-around guy. Working with him was a pleasure. Together we gave new life to ‘Amor Clandestino’ and we are very happy.”
J Balvin adds a record-extending 36th No. 1 to his Billboard Latin Airplay account as his latest single “Dientes,” with Usher and DJ Khaled, climbs 9-1 on the Nov. 4-dated ranking. Usher and Khaled add their second leader.
“Dientes” becomes the Greatest Gainer of the week with 11 million audience impressions, up 51%, earned in the U.S. during the Oct. 20-26 tracking week, according to Luminate.
With “Dientes,” J Balvin tastes his first No. 1 on the overall Latin Airplay chart in 2023. His last effort, “Nivel de Perreo” with Ryan Castro, reached a No. 26 high last September. Prior, “Forever My Love” and “Sigue,” both collaborations with Ed Sheeran, took Balvin to the summit for one week each in April 2022.
Balvin first broke the No. 1 barrier with “AM” with Farruko in 2014, for one week in charge, and became a staple at the format with six more No. 1s from his next 10 chart visits. In total, Balvin has collected 36 champs, further distancing from the competition.
Here’s the rundown of artists with the most No. 1s on Latin Airplay since the chart began in 1994:
36, J Balvin
33, Ozuna
32, Enrique Iglesias
28, Daddy Yankee
23, Maluma
22, Bad Bunny
22, Wisin
“Dientes” brings Usher to the lead after more than two decades, after his featured role in Romeo Santos’ ”Promise” ruled for 10 weeks between 2011-12. Between his two chart-topping singles, he landed a No. 35 high through his featured turn in David Guetta’s “Without You” in 2012.

DJ Khaled, meanwhile, scores his second No. 1 after Jennifer Lopez’s “Dinero” — where he is featured along with Cardi B — led for one week in 2018.
Back to the champ, in addition to securing all artists a new No. 1, “Dientes” gives UMLE its fourth ruler in 2023, after the label dominated with Karol G and Shakira’s TQG” (two weeks between May and July), Alejandro Fernandez’s “No Es Que Me Quiera Ir” and Feid and Sean Paul’s “Nina Bonita” (both for one week in Aug.)
Luck Ra’s “La Morocha” featuring BM rebounds 2-1 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart (dated Oct. 28) for a fifth week of domination. The song unseats Bizarrap and Milo J’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 57” from the lead after one week in charge. With the move, “La Morocha” ties with Ke Personajes, Big One […]
Shakira is not done with chart achievements in 2023. The singer crowns Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart once again as “Copa Vacía,” her collab with Manuel Turizo, rises 3-1 on the Oct. 28-dated list. The new leader marks two successes in her chart career: She extends her record for the most champs by a woman, with 20, and ties Jennifer Lopez’s No. 1 record by a female act in a single year in the history of the survey, both with four leaders. Shakira also now has the most No. 1s on Latin Airplay in 2023 among all artists.

As radio airplay continues to grow for “Copa Vacía,” it ascends to the summit with 10.5 million audience impressions earned in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 19, according to Luminate, that’s an 18% gain from the week prior. The song sends Venesti’s “Umaye” to No. 7 after one week in charge (down 21%, to 7.5 million).
With the jump, Shakira secures her 20th No. 1 on Latin Airplay, and fourth in 2023, the most for any woman this year. Here’s the recap of all the songs by a female artist that has reached the top of the chart thus far. Titles by Shakira are in bold type.

Further, as “Copa Vacía” leads Latin Airplay, Shakira ties Jennifer Lopez’s No. 1 record by a woman in a single year (January through December Billboard chart dates), as the latter scored and equal four rulers in 2018. Among all acts, Ozuna and J Balvin tie for the most overall, with nine No. 1s in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Turizo, meanwhile, banks his eighth champ with a chart-topping rate that has soared this decade. After scoring two No. 1s between 2018-19, the Colombian has logged six leaders since 2020, including “La Bachata,” his first ruler as a soloist, unaccompanied by any other act. Plus, Turizo’s 2023 chart career has proven to be fruitful, scoring three No. 1s: “El Merengue” with Marshmello (June 10), “Vagabundo” with Sebastián Yatra and Beele (Sept. 2) and now “Copa Vacía” with Shakira. The latter also becomes his first and only No. 1 with a woman.
Beyond its coronation on Latin Airplay, “Copa Vacía” also lifts 2-1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay, while it holds solid at No. 1 on Latin Pop Airplay for a seventh week, the third-most in 2023.
