The Wicked besties defy gravity as LISA slays the academy stage, and we see performances from Doja Cat and more. We’re breaking down the top music moments at this year’s Oscars. Ariana Grande kicked off the show with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and Cynthia Erivo followed with “Home” as they paid homage to other Emerald movies, The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz. And it was hard to hold back tears when they joined for “Defying Gravity.” Iconic besties indeed. And we got more from The Wiz later by way of Queen Latifah and a tribute to Quincy Jones. LISA of BLACKPINK strutted and sang “Live and Let Die,” kicking off a James Bond medley that also included Doja Cat covering “Diamonds Are Forever” and RAYE tackling Adele’s “Skyfall.” We were stunned. And taking home best original song was “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez.

Good, apart from that it’s from a high level. Thank you so much.

Category one, groupie from a high level. First, before anything else, what do you have on today? 

Today, I have on, also a kiss for days to Way Tri. I have on an outfit from Way Tri from Yoji Yamamoto. So thank you to God for the love all the time. I came a bit elegant because you’re always very elegant, and today I wanted to be a little bit on your level. 

Today I wasn’t that elegant. I said I’m going to dress in jeans because …

Because you thought I was coming in basketball shorts. You said, “Oh Duki is coming, he’s a rapper, he’s going to be in basketball shorts.” Right?

Exactly! I didn’t know that you had this side to you, this super tailored side, but is this clothes from your closet or did they let you borrow it?

Nope, it’s from my closet. For everyone over there, I’m my own stylist. I don’t have a stylist or anything. It’s all me.

Tory Lanez Fires Back at PARTYNEXTDOOR With Threatening Diss Track Snippet: Listen

Even though he’s behind bars, Tory Lanez has continued to escalate his boiling feud with fellow Toronto singer PARTYNEXTDOOR.

While PND walked back his most recent diss and apologized to Lanez, Tory continued to follow up on Friday (Feb. 28), with a preview of a harsh diss track against the OVO signee that he said he would leave the decision of whether to release the song up to his fanbase.

“I WILL LEAVE THE FATE OF THIS @PartyNextDoor SITUATION IN THE HANDS OF THE UNTOUCHABLE UMBRELLA,” he captioned the IG post. “ATT UMBRELLAS: I HAVE A LIFE LONG OBLIGATION TO THE UMBRELLAS TO ENSURE WE STAND UNITED AS ONE IN ALL DECISIONS”

Lanez continued to say: “THAT BEING SAID … DO I LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THAT ‘FAKE ASS APOLOGY ‘? (That he only issued because he didn’t like the reaction he got..) Or DO I LET HIM CATCH HIS FADE AND WE SHAKE HANDS AFTER AS MEN?”

On the brutal snippet, Tory even makes a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s “playing with his nose now” bar dissing PARTY on “Not Like Us.” “PARTY won’t play with me, he’ll play with his nose, though,” Lanez spews on the track.

Billboard has reached out to PARTYNEXTDOOR’s rep for comment.

However, there was a strong contingent of fans in Lanez’s comments section who didn’t want to see any more fighting, and would rather have Tory, Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR as allies once again while teaming up on new music down the line. Drake has been a vocal supporter of Tory behind bars, calling for his freedom on multiple occasions.

Last week, PARTYNEXTDOOR previewed a diss track blasting Lanez and accusing him of copying his style. “F–k what Tory Lanez say, you know the B, I’m running that/ I did everything he did, oh he’s just a running man,” he boasts.

Shortly after, PND released a statement apologizing to Lanez on his Instagram Story. “@torylanez I was told about what you said without hearing your video for myself,” he wrote. “You didn’t say anything that I wouldn’t say myself, now that I seen it I was wrong. City is stronger together.”

Lanez — born Daystar Peterson — is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in July 2020. Megan also won a restraining order against Lanez in January.

Oscars 2025: Stars at the Afterparties

After Anora ended as the biggest winner of the 2025 Oscars — snagging five awards, including best picture and best actress — on Sunday, March 2, the stars left the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood to continue celebrating the year in cinema at the various post-Academy Awards parties around town.

One of the biggest annual shindigs is hosted by Vanity Fair at the Wallis Annenberg Center, which was hosted by Radhika Jones and attended by stars such as LISA of BLACKPINK, Doja Cat and RAYE (the trio performed a tribute to the iconic James Bond film franchise during the awards ceremony), singer and Emilia Pérez star Selena Gomez, Lizzo, Jack Antonoff with Margaret Qualley, Doja Cat, RAYE, Miley Cyrus, Megan Thee Stallion and many, many more.

Over at Elton John’s gathering — the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party at West Hollywood Park — the Rocket Man himself did a duet with Chappell Roan on her hit “Pink Pony Club,” complete with a pink bedazzled cowboy hat on. “I would just like to say thank you, Elton, for believing in ‘Pink Pony Club,’” Roan said after. “He played it first, y’all. And I’m so grateful that you would have me here.” Other stars at the party included Hozier, Brandi Carlile Laufey, JC Chasez and more.

At the Netflix party held at the famed Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, it was practically a celebration of the streamer’s celebrated film Emilia Pérez. In attendance were Clement Ducol and Camille Dalmais, who won the best original song trophy earlier in the evening for “El Mal” from the musical film and star Zoe Saldana, who snagged the win for best actress. Also at the event were Keke Palmer, Christina Hendricks, David Spade and others.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z threw yet another legendary Oscars after-party, and of course, it was nothing short of iconic.

The power couple, known for throwing the most exclusive and lit events, brought out the best of Hollywood’s A-list crew. The private venue was packed with celebs, and it didn’t take long for the party to become the hottest ticket in town. Some major names in the building included Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, who’s always serving elegance, and Keke Palmer, who’s been shining non-stop this year. Of course, the one and only Kylie Jenner made her entrance, turning heads with her flawless look, while Taraji P. Henson brought all the class and good vibes to the celebration.

The vibe was straight-up exclusive—no paparazzi, no drama—just a bunch of heavy hitters enjoying the moment. You know the energy was on 10 when the whole room was full of smiles, selfies, and people just vibing out. The food was fire, the music was bumpin’, and the outfits were a fashion show in themselves.

Songs Not in the English Language That Won Oscars for Best Original Song: Complete List

This is a clear sign of the increasing globalization of pop culture, and specifically of the Motion Picture Academy’s voting body.

“El Mal” from Emilia Pérez won best original song at the 2025 Oscars on Sunday (March 2), marking the second time in three years that the award has gone to song that was performed in the film in a language other than English.

This is the first time in the history of the best original song category, which was first presented in 1935, that two “foreign-language songs” (as we used to call them in less enlightened times) have won in such quick succession.

“El Mal” is the sixth winner that was performed in the film in a language other than English. Four of those songs have won in the last 21 years. In the first 70 years that the award was presented, just two such songs won.

This is a clear sign of the increasing globalization of pop culture, and specifically of the Motion Picture Academy’s voting body.

Three of these six songs were performed in Spanish in the films (including “El Mal,” despite the fact that all three of the song’s writers are French). One was performed in Greek, one in Hindi and one in Telugu.

One of them became a smash hit in 1950 when performed in English by one of the top recording artists of the era, the great Nat King Cole. Two others became top 15 hits on the Hot 100 when covered by hitmaking female vocal groups, The Chordettes and The Pussycat Dolls.

In a teaser clip from the wide-ranging conversation, the superstar reveals the new mindset she’s reached at this point in her career. “I think that I am feeling really confident in myself as a musician and as a songwriter and producer, as an artist,” she admitted. “I know that might sound silly, but it actually took me two decades to become the boss in a way. Being a woman in music, I was almost always the only woman in the room all the time. I had to really, really work hard to maintain my sense of stability and my purpose. I always stuck to my guns when it came to my music and my artistry, but it was a real challenge and I made it through that mayhem.”

Mayhem is set to arrive March 7 via Interscope, marking Gaga’s first original full-length pop album since 2020’s Grammy-winning Chromatica. Just one day after the highly anticipated project arrives, Gaga will serve as both host and serve as musical guest on Saturday Night Live on March 8 — the second time she has done so.

Leading up to the album’s release, Gaga unveiled the tracklist for Mayhem, including singles “Disease,” “Abracadabra” and her Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping Bruno Mars collaboration “Die With a Smile,” as well as two tracks she teased during her Little Monster Press Conference in February. Those songs are titled “The Beast” and “Perfect Celebrity.”

ROSÉ & Bruno Mars’ ‘APT.’ Adds Record-Extending 16th Week at No. 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart

ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” leases the penthouse for a record-extending 16th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart. The collaboration first led the list in November.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga and Mars’ “Die With a Smile” scores a milestone 10th week atop the Billboard Global 200 chart, dating to its first frame at No. 1 last September.

The Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, which began in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

“APT.” rebounds 2-1 on Global Excl. U.S. with 88.8 million streams and 8,000 sold (down 5% in each metric week-over-week) outside the U.S. Feb. 21-27.

“Die With a Smile” dips to No. 2 after 10 weeks atop Global Excl. U.S.; Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is steady at its No. 3 best; Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” holds at its No. 4 high; and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” remains at No. 5, after three weeks on top last August.

“Die With a Smile” rises 2-1 on the Global 200 with 119.3 million streams (down 7%) and 8,000 (down 13%) worldwide. The song becomes the sixth to have logged at least 10 weeks atop the chart; Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” leads with 19 weeks at No. 1 dating to its first in December 2020.

“APT.” ascends 4-2 following 12 weeks atop the Global 200 beginning in October; “Luther” repeats at its No. 3 high; “Not Like Us” falls to No. 4 following four weeks at No. 1 beginning last May; and “Birds of a Feather” keeps at No. 5 after three weeks at No. 1 last August.

From Teaming With Travis Scott to Rapping in Mandarin: John Cena’s 6 Best Hip-Hop Moments

John Cena entered the WWE ring with Travis Scott and The Rock on Saturday (March 1), appearing at the end of the Elimination Chamber premium live event in Toronto. The viral event, which included the Cactus Jack rapper delivering a hard slap to WWE undisputed champion Cody Rhodes, dominated the internet. The match-up was also attended by Drake and Lil Yachty, and added yet another notch to Cena’s hip-hop belt.

The showdown served as a reminder of Cena’s surprisingly deep ties to hip-hop. Cena became a rapper in the early 2000s as part of his persona in the wrestling world: Known for his “Never Give Up” catchphrase and heavy lock and chain necklace, Cena embraced hip-hop culture in numerous ways, dropping motivational freestyle raps and even a Billboard 200-charting album. He garnered notable co-signs from some of rap’s biggest stars, and even linked with a few to make some actual music. Cena’s foray into the genre was short-lived, and he’s since pivoted away from his rap persona into acting and other ventures. Still, Saturday’s match-up was a reminder that Cena and hip-hop culture can easily co-exist when the time is right.

Over the years, he’s talked extensively about his deep love of rap, telling Club Shay Shay last year that the music found him at the perfect time.

“I was one of five boys, and I had a lot of angst with how the household was being run,” he said. “I was a rebel. That music found me at the right time. So, even though a song like ‘F—k tha Police’ might have been an anthem for the state of the social well-being in South Central Los Angeles — to a 13-year-old kid, the police are my parents, and it was me who was like, ‘Well, f—k that.’”

Harry Styles Runs the Tokyo Marathon & Finishes With Impressive Stats

Nothing was holding Harry Styles back in Japan over the weekend, with the pop star taking part in the Tokyo Marathon and finishing in the top fraction of runners Sunday (March 2).

As captured in videos taken by supporters watching from the sidelines, Styles completed the 26.2-mile race in a dark hoodie and neon sneakers, with a white bandana tied around his head. In one clip, he runs past fans who call out his name and cheer him on, to which he gives a big smile and flashes a peace sign as he whizzes past.

According to the marathon’s online records, the “As It Was” musician finished 6,010th place out of a group of more than 37,000 runners. His net time was about three hours and 24 minutes, with an average pace of about 7:47 per mile.

That compares to first-place runner Tadese Takele’s finish time of 2:03:23. Sutume Asefa Kebede was the first woman to complete the trek, ending with a time of 2:16:31.

Styles’ side quest in Tokyo comes as fans continue to wait patiently for new music, with the former One Direction star’s last album, Harry’s House, arriving in 2022. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and won album of the year at the 2023 Grammys.

The X Factor alum has spent much of the past couple of years out of the spotlight. In October, he broke a nearly yearlong social media break to post an Instagram tribute to his former bandmate, Liam Payne, who died after falling from a third-story balcony in Buenos Aires.

“I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing,” wrote Styles, who attended Payne’s funeral service alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan in November. “His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it.”
