Members Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson turned the iconic into their own, taking up their respective positions at the acoustic guitar and piano to provide the song with an intimate and unique touch.

“Every night in my dreams/ I see you, I feel you/ That is how I know you go on/ Far across the distance/ And spaces between us/ You have come to show you go on,” Gavin delicately sings before launching into the track’s signature chorus. “Near, far, wherever you are/ I believe that the heart does go on/ Once more, you open the door/ And you’re here in my heart/ And my heart will go on and on.”

“My Heart Will Go On” was released as the lead single from the Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture soundtrack in 1997. The track peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of 20 weeks on the chart, and is lauded as one of Dion’s greatest career hits.

“My Heart Will Go On” hit its 25 year milestone last year, while March 23, specifically, marked the 25th anniversary of Dion performing the track at the Oscars. To celebrate, she released a remastered 4K of the song’s respective music video. “To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Celine Dion’s biggest hit of all time, this performance focused music video has been reimagined, featuring remastered footage in stunning clarity,” the video’s caption on YouTube reads.

Bailey Zimmerman’s ‘Rock’ Skips to No. 1 on Country Airplay Chart

Bailey Zimmerman’s sophomore single “Rock and a Hard Place” ascends to No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated April 1).

In the week ending March 23, the song drew 32.9 million audience impressions, essentially even week-over-week, according to Luminate.

“Rock,” released on Elektra / Warner Music Nashville / WEA, was co-written by Jacob Hackworth, Jet Harvey and Heath Warren.

For the 23-year-old Zimmerman from Louisville, Ill., “Rock” marks his second straight career-opening No. 1. It follows his rookie single, “Fall in Love,” which led the Dec. 10 ranking, becoming the first debut hit to lead in 2022.

“In my wildest dreams, I never thought I’d see my name or any of my songs on the Billboard charts, so the fact that I’ve now had two reach the No. 1 spot is mind-blowing,” Zimmerman says. “Thanks to everyone who has supported me and my music. I owe everything to y’all.”

Both “Fall” and “Rock” are from Zimmerman’s nine-song set Leave the Light On, which arrived on Top Country Albums at its No. 2 high in October and has spent its first 22 frames on the chart in the top 10.

Notably, nine months and one week passed between the Country Airplay debut of “Fall” (June 25, 2022) and the reign of “Rock” (April 1, 2023). Among acts that have led the list with their first two entries, that ties for the least amount of time that any act has needed between the debut of a first No. 1 and the coronation of a second since Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” debuted on Aug. 11, 2012, and “Get Your Shine On” hit No. 1 on May 18, 2013.

On May 10, Zimmerman will release his new 16-cut LP Religiously. The Album., which will also include his two Country Airplay No. 1s.

Songs ‘Didn’t’ Ever Do This Before

Brett Young’s “You Didn’t” lifts 11-10 on Country Airplay (16.7 million, up 1%) – completing a record 70-week trip to the top 10. The song, which entered the chart on Dec. 4, 2021, at No. 60 is also the first title to chart for as many as 70 weeks since the survey began in January 1990.

Travis Denning’s “After a Few” previously charted on Country Airplay the longest: 67 weeks, having hit No. 1 in June 2020. Meanwhile, LOCASH’s “One Big Country Song” formerly made the longest trek to the top 10: 59 weeks, on its way to No. 2 in August 2020.

“Didn’t” gives Young his eighth top 10, a sum that includes six No. 1s, through “Lady” in April 2021.

Fifteen-Year-Old Drill Star Sugarhill Ddot Signs With Priority Records

On Thursday (March 23), 15-year-old New York phenom Sugarhill Ddot is officially part of the Priority Records family.

“Being signed to Priority Records is a blessing,” said the teenager in a press release. “I thought being a signed artist would never be possible. I’m grateful for this opportunity.”

Originally named after the famous Sugar Hill area in Harlem, Ddot has gained traction courtesy of his trap-laden records. Notching co-signs from Drake and Lil Durk, Ddot has released notable Tri-state area songs, including “Evil Twins” and “Evil Twins 2.” On YouTube, his videos for “I Wanna Love You,” “Dream” and “The Real Purge” have also amassed a total of 10 million views combined.

Ddot is one of the first artists signed to the newly-revamped Priority Records, which relaunched in September under the Capitol Music Group (CMG) umbrella with CMG executive vp Orlando Wharton at the helm as president. “We’re bringing New York back,” Wharton said in a statement. “Sugarhill Ddot is a star in the making to ignite the resurgence of Priority Records.”

Priority Records was once home to prominent West Coast artists including N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and more. Wharton, an experienced creative talent, was tapped to guide artists across CMG’s portfolio of labels while overseeing the resurrected Priority, which will serve as a dedicated label for new, developing and established hip-hop artists.

“[Priority] is a legendary label that gave artists a voice when they were voiceless; a label that was about real music that didn’t rely on gimmicks to make an impact,” added Wharton.

Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday & More to Headline 2023 Four Chord Music Festival

The Four Chord Music Festival is back with the announcement of its 2023 lineup, which will bring a stacked roster of punk and indie bands to Western Pennsylvania’s Wild Things Park on August 12 and 13 for a two-day, DIY celebration from across the punk rock spectrum.

This year’s headliners include Yellowcard — performing their 2003 album Ocean Avenue in full — as well as Taking Back Sunday, The Gaslight Anthem, The Interrupters and Alkaline Trio. Also on the bill are Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Waterparks, The Maine, Streetlight Manifesto, Face To Face, American Football, Magnolia Park and more.

“I started the festival because I got frustrated with some of the politics behind getting on tours,” says festival founder Rishi Bahl, a touring artist and college professor who first launched Four Chord Music Festival in 2015 as a local punk rock event in a 1,500-capacity club. Since then, the festival has grown into a massive stadium-sized two-day destination event featuring the punk scene’s biggest and brightest — while keeping its independent DIY roots intact.

“We have some of the lowest ticketing fees in any festival of this size in the whole United States,” says Bahl, noting that Four Chord uses the ShowClix ticketing platform. “We control the cost of beverages. We don’t price gouge for alcohol. We don’t price gouge for food. We have 30 and 50 local vendors on site. We have a DIY rate for small, independent companies, and we have a higher rate for more corporatized companies.”

Booking Yellowcard is a return to Four Chord’s roots, adds Bahl, noting that the band headlined the festival in 2015 before breaking up shortly afterward. “When we heard they were getting back together to play a big Ocean Avenue tour, we wanted to be a part of it,” he says. “If you grew up in the early 2000s and were in the punk rock, pop punk, emo scene, that was a seminal record.”

The festival is split into two days — a pop-punk emo day and a punk rock day — and there are no conflicting sets happening that will see one artist playing at the same time as another.

“Everything we do is focused around making it a good experience for the fans and the bands, without making it cost prohibitive,” says Bahl. “I put this festival on each year knowing what it is like to be a kid on a tight budget and we go out of our way to make sure the festival stays affordable and carries on the DIY tradition.”

Single-day general admission tickets for the festival start at $94, while single-day VIP tickets are priced at $196. More information and tickets can be found at www.FourChordMusicFestival.com.

BABYMETAL Returns: SU-METAL & MOAMETAL Feel Like a New Band, Talk First Concept Album ‘THE OTHER ONE’

BABYMETAL recently returned to music after a two-year hiatus and is set to release its much-anticipated new album THE OTHER ONE on Friday (March 24). The duo’s first new project since METAL GALAXY from 2019 revolves around the concept of “restored BABYMETAL music that was previously unknown.” The overall tone of their comeback is entirely dark and serious, and the project may be remembered as the most unconventional and mysterious in BABYMETAL’s history.

But while SU-METAL and MOAMETAL elaborate on the album’s enigmatic concept in this brand-new interview, they also offer different perspectives on this project. SU-METAL’s deep reflection that includes a synesthetic sensitivity and MOAMETAL’s interpretation filled with physicality and tenderness will surely provide a number of hints and insights for those who are perplexed by this work and serve as a companion piece to THE OTHER ONE.

In your BABYMETAL RETURNS – THE OTHER ONE – comeback concert back in January and this new album, there are two major keywords: “METALVERSE” and “previously unknown BABYMETAL.” Could you explain to us how you two interpret these concepts?

SU-METAL: BABYMETAL is fiction, but it’s also something that’s happening simultaneously in reality. The two of us were growing in the world of BABYMETAL and the audience enjoyed that. But as times changed and we have access to a variety of information, I think everyone now has their own reality or way of looking at the world. So the phrase “previously unknown BABYMETAL” raises a certain question: “Is the BABYMETAL you know really BABYMETAL?”

And since our last album METAL GALAXY in 2019, we’ve been working to destroy the “stereotype of BABYMETAL” in order to continue taking on new challenges as the group. So I think that also leads to the “different universe” that is THE OTHER ONE.

MOAMETAL: When I first heard the words “METALVERSE” and “previously unknown BABYMETAL,” I was like, “Seriously, what are they talking about?” [Laughs] But I really love Disney and after sensing something similar to the movie Doctor Strange, I got more and more excited while working on the project. So I’d like everyone to think about BABYMETAL by connecting what they’ve gained from various other works of art.

Since this album is based on concepts depicting other possibilities for BABYMETAL, it’s an album that expands the way we think about the group, including where it’ll be headed in the future. How do you want your fans to enjoy this work?

SU-METAL: I consider this album to be a BABYMETAL spin-off while also being like an art museum. There’s a phrase in the lyrics of “Mirror Mirror” that means, “The real me / doesn’t exist.” I think the songs on this album are like that in a way and it’s also what art is all about. Of course, I’m sure there will be those who want to pinpoint what each song is about, and that’s fine, but there’s no real right answer and discussing it is also part of the fun. THE OTHER ONE has lots of songs that have strong messages even for BABYMETAL, so I’d be happy if people could feel them out and use these songs as an opportunity to take another look at themselves.

MOAMETAL: When I first heard the songs, I thought there weren’t any elements that made them typically like our previous numbers, so I think many of our fans may initially feel the same way. But after seeing these songs live with our dance choreography and discussing them with other people, I think you’ll find things about them that remind you of past BABYMETAL songs and find parts you like. So, if you find a song (on the new album) that you like, I’d be glad if you listen to it multiple times and think about the things you value, and also about that feeling of valuing something itself.

Since your new album is based on the concept of “another BABYMETAL,” the question a lot of fans will probably have is, “Where did the original BABYMETAL go?”

SU-METAL: First of all, THE OTHER ONE isn’t the main story of BABYMETAL. It was made during the time we took a break from doing concerts after our ten-year METAL RESISTANCE saga, so the album is about “an alternate BABYMETAL.” At the same time, we’re sometimes called “Kawaii Metal” but don’t think that’s the only thing we’re about. We want to make new music, so we don’t want to be tied down by that image. We want to show another side like this and hope people will enjoy this, too. On top of that, BABYMETAL’s new main story will begin again, so please look forward to that as well.

Can you tell us anything about what you have planned for your fans outside of Japan?

MOAMETAL: For now, we’ve announced plans to tour Europe from April to May with the Swedish band Sabaton. We think 2023 has only just begun and have no intention of stopping. We hope to create opportunities to visit not only Europe but also various countries to meet people we haven’t been able to see recently. So please look forward to seeing us.

SU-METAL: BABYMETAL has a ten-year history, and speaking for myself, I gave that decade everything I had and crossed the finish line once. I actually stepped away from music for a while during our hiatus.

But I came back because I still genuinely felt that I love BABYMETAL and that I love music. I feel like I’m in a new band right now, and my current mode is, “I want to purely enjoy the music.” So while I do want to bring back the kind of concerts that we did up until our break with our overseas fans, I also want to create new BABYMETAL shows.

You stepped away from music? I’d imagined you were forced to delay the start of your next phase after your tenth anniversary because the pandemic began around that time.

SU-METAL: Actually, we’d already decided about five years ago that we would make the tenth anniversary our goal. When we became a two-member group in 2018, we weren’t sure how to proceed, and even wondered if it was right to keep going but decided to carry on until the tenth anniversary. We received some tough feedback from fans at the time, which I’m sure came from a place of love for our group. I think it made us stronger, and we gained a lot of confidence knowing that most people appreciated our music even though our appearance had changed. We took a break because we felt we’d reached our goal, including going through such experiences.

That’s interesting to know.

SU-METAL: So during my time away from music, at first I was like, “Nope, not gonna listen to metal anymore.” But before I knew it, I was back and singing again. [Laughs] Probably like how a teenager takes up playing guitar, I found myself singing, and before we realized it, MOAMETAL and I were getting together and dancing again.

So I really enjoyed our first lesson in a while. Before then, I used to think things like, “I’m a little off pitch here,” or “I should have done this rhythm better” whenever I sang, and when I listened to other artists’ music, I’d study the way people sang from a professional perspective. But now, music really feels like a hobby to me.

Like a teenager, as you mentioned earlier. So that must be why you feel like you’re in a new band.

SU-METAL: Right. Of course, a part of us wants to expand on what we’ve accumulated over the decade as BABYMETAL, but at the same time, we also just want to have fun again. BABYMETAL started off as a group that did interesting stuff that made people go, “What the heck is this?” We’re trying to get back to that basic feeling.

It must have been important for you to take that break to recover those feelings.

MOAMETAL: SU-METAL and I always had each other’s backs, but in some vague way we also felt that something was missing. So there were times when things were pretty tough, and we had to force ourselves to be like, “We got this!” But now, we’re still a duo but we want to deliver our music because we love what we do. We needed to take some time off to reaffirm that feeling.

When you returned to music, did you discuss it and decide to come back, or did it happen naturally?

MOAMETAL: We did discuss it, but my feeling was that if SU-METAL was going to be there, then I’d be willing to give it a shot again, so for me it was like I came back without much thought.

SU-METAL: It wasn’t like we’d promised each other that we’d definitely get back together when we said our goodbyes. We sort of came back before we knew it. It feels strange even to us. [Laughs]

That shows how strong you two connected over the ten years you worked together.

SU-METAL: Especially since we spent our important teenage years together. During our tours, we’re together for two to three months, so we feel like a family. It’s natural for us to be together. So even when we were apart, it wasn’t like I wanted to see her every day, but I still wondered what she was doing in the corner of my mind. It’s a strange feeling like that.

HYBE to Sell Entire SM Entertainment Stake to Kakao, Ending Battle for Control of K-Pop Giant

South Korea’s HYBE said Friday (March 24) it will sell its stake in SM Entertainment, officially ending a bidding war between HYBE and the South Korean tech company Kakao for control of the K-pop agency that was key to the genre’s popularity and overseas expansion in recent years.

HYBE, home of superstar boy band BTS, said in a filing it will sell its roughly 15% stake in SM for nearly 564 billion won ($435 million) to Kakao, which earlier this month announced a tender offer aimed at acquiring up to 35% of SM Entertainment’s outstanding shares.

Kakao Entertainment owns Monsta X‘s K-pop record label, Starship Entertainment, as well as the South Korean music streaming app Melon, the North America-based webtoon company Tapas Entertainment and several media production companies. It’s a subsidiary of the tech conglomerate Kakao Corp.

HYBE acquired most of its shares in SM in February from SM founder Lee Soo-man, who was recently ousted from the company after shareholders called for changes in SM’s structure. For over a decade, Lee exercised top-down control of the company he started in 1995, and shareholders had raised questions over millions of dollars he received in producer fees annually.

Lee sold his shares to HYBE in retaliation for a move by SM to issue stock to Kakao, ultimately prompting HYBE’s attempt to secure a majority stake in SM through a tender offer. HYBE relented in mid-March because, it said, outbidding Kakao could have “a negative impact on our shareholders.”

Just days after canceling the company’s bid for control of SM, HYBE founder/chairman Bang Si-hyuk reiterated his desire to expand beyond Korea in an effort to eventually compete with the three major labels – Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group — on a global scale, stating the company must have a “sense of urgency” in doing so.

Bang additionally signaled a desire for outside support for K-pop companies in their attempts to rival the majors, including possibly from the South Korean government, which has helped elevate Korean companies in other industries into global players. HYBE has already made strides on that front with two U.S. acquisitions — Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings and QC Media Holdings, parent company of hip-hop label Quality Control Music, which Bang said are “just the beginning” in its bid for worldwide domination.

SM and HYBE have in recent years dominated South Korean and global pop charts. Together they accounted for nearly half of all albums sold in South Korea in 2022, according to Korean chart company Circle Chart.

HYBE’s planned stock sale could net the company $87 million, the equivalent of a 25% return on its purchases of Lee’s shares one month ago, Reuters reported earlier on Friday.
